Christianity Etc › Re: What Is True Prosperity? Anbody by dare2think: 2:12pm On Apr 13, 2011 |
Hi Blackstar,
I think religion has nothing to do with prosperity, Unlike what some of our Christian folks and "Men of God" would like us to think.
Believers and Non-believers prosper. I feel it has a lot to do with Luck& Hard-work. I think you need the combination of both to prosper. Some only need luck for instance- If you were born in a wealthy home or you were left a great amount of inheritance or you win the lottery.
Some need luck with their hard work, and some have innate intelligence and pull things off.
Attributing a particular religion to success is contradictory. Like you said some really devout religious folks are broke while some are extremely rich, How do you explain that.
Also, what about people who don't have or believe in any religion yet are very prosperous, How do you explain that.
Then people of different faiths, A Muslim guy for instance, lets use Dangote, is not a Christain yet is so prosperous, how do you explain that with in a Christian view.
Work Hard, never give up, and a bit of luck(you will need it), you will prosper regardless of your religion. |

harakiri: @Konjour. . . I would advice to save your mental energy. These people you're bantering with would rather kill you if they could than take the time to ponder on what you've said. Like i've said repeatedly on this thread, it all boils down to POVERTY OF THE MIND AND POCKET! Things are so hard in the country and in a situation where hopelessness hangs in the air like a thick fog, people will cling unto anything/anyone that offers a ray of hope (even if its false). Its an animal instinct of survival and part of human nature. I call it the "greener pasture syndrome". Study the comments of the Oyedepo apologists and you'll notice they ALL say the same thing e.g he sold what he had to start a church (as if other people dont sell their property to invest in a venture), he needs the jets for evangelism (the countries he travels to are places where christianity is well established. Its even those ppl that brought the religion to Africa in the first place), posters are just jealous of him (as if posters dont have a life or ambitions of their own. This alone shows how shallow minded these individuals are). Rather than talk about salvation and heaven, they are entranced by his wealth (which came from them) and its him they worship. He has brainwashed them to the extent he's an untouchable demi-god to them and that is why you'll see someone defending his excesses by claiming that he "sold his belongings" to start a church and as a result,no one has the right to question him. This is as ridiculous as a corrupt politician defending his embezzlement schemes by stating how he sold his houses to rig election and "so therefore" he has the right to loot with impunity. Until this reetarded mentality is eradicated, Nigeria can NEVER move forward! ! ! The realist comment ever, It's really sad. PEOPLE DEFENDING A MAN OF GOD WITH "PRIVATE" JETS, they say liberation from poverty, yet they still take public transport to the church. Or dont they? |

You dont know why they bought a fourth Jet, , If there is a need for it, IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE. What is wrong with you. What is understandable about having 4 "PRIVATE"jets, not four relief jets. Or does the Jets carry food and aids to the impoverished? Seems you don't understand how wikipedia works. It is a site that is open to the public for edition. While some facts have been cited on the site , it is still open to collusion especially when it comes to personalities. This means anybody can tamper with the sources, What you have just posted looks like a propaganda script. Ask good schools they never accept wikipidia as a genuine source. Is it ok if i ask some questions?
Was he a Business man before or after the foundation of the church? If yes, what business was he into?
If no, then i think it's fair to say, it is the churces money, or can he spend it the way he likes?
If you think 300k/ a year is not expensive for school fees in a poverty country then i doubt your honesty. Is the average member's child/children open to the scholarship? if yes, what are the criterias?
I am working with the talent God has given me, and that is to reason objectively.
Lastly, what is the salary the man of God gets from the church, Pls we all know there needs to be transparency in the house of God, so you of all people should know how much is his salary?
Stop comparing him to Dangote because Dangote never collected/ is not collecting islamic tithes/seeds/donations etc. Dangote is not a self-proclaimed Man of God, so whatever he does with "HIS MONEY" is up to him.
Am waiting for your clear answers. |

I am cool. My post never support acquisition of 4 jets. one is even explainable, two is fair but four is a way too much. I would have been more pleased to hear that one of the church leaders in this country acquired land and built a 1000 or more units of low-cost houses to ease the burden of some of their members.
That will better the society and help a lots of families.

phxc: Bishop Oyedepo says God appeared to him in a vision and told him, "It's time to get the aircraft." You cannot disprove that neither can you prove that he is telling da truth. Entirely subjective. He says God talks to him and gives him specific instructions on what to do. Majority of his followers believe him; but like they say, when you talk to God, it is called prayer, when God talks to you, it is called schizophrenia. Perhaps he is in the latter stages of that terrible condition, perhaps not. Who knows? Very True, Entirely subjective. Bu you have to wonder. How would /could God tell his servant "It's time to get the aircraft" and forget to tell him about the people in need across the Globe. Has this same God forgotten about their plight? Or are these unfortunate ppl Devil's children. You just have to wonder the discussions btw these men of God and God? |

Olumogun: Listening to Chief Ebenezer Obey's track:
"ko sogbon to le da, ko siwa to le wu, ko sona to le gba, to lefi ta'iye lorun oh!"
I wonder what the arguement would have looked like today if we are online talking about how things has gone from bad to worse for a 'gospel general' who could not afford to send his children to good school.
I knew way back in 1984 when this man sold all he had to start a church in KADUNA. Where were all of u poke-nose then, some of u were not even born yet. 26 years gone and you expect the man to still be "suffering" for the gospel. If he were your uncle, father or senior brother, I ask you; will you come here to say he is achieve too much or getting too rich in his work?
My candid advice: if you feel that any of your pastors are taking too much of your money, then stop paying your tithe and offering. when the 'task-master' come calling, I bet you, that you will wish you had let go.
And as for those of you defending him, why wasting your time. It will be wise too for the church of God (leaders) to learn from some of these critics, as the adage goes that says: even fool sometimes speaks wise words. You must feel pleased with yourself for writing this senseless stuff. So, since he sold his car, and devoted 26 yrs to the ministry, he can spend the ministries money as he likes? Is it a business? Delafruita: @harakiri. It's virtually impossible to find any evidence of the bible been the word of God except from the bible and probably from the quran which says the holy book "torah" which is the equivalent of the first five books of the old testament was revealed to prophet musa(moses) and that the holy book "injil" or bible was revealed to prophet isa or jesus.however it is claimed by islamic clerics that the book revelaed to isa is different from the one been peddled around today.it is on record that the bible as we know it today was put together by the council of nicea in 325AD.it was an act of selective inclusion and exclusion based on the personal opinion and wishes of emperor constantine and the bishops of his day.it is said that the bible was written by men who were inspired by God.i do not choose to dispute.after studying the bible, its evident that the old testament was a book plainly on the history of isreal as pertains to religion which was most likely written by historians of different ages.historians and archeologists have found a lot of evidence to back up biblical stories.for example davids's conduits have been found, sennacherib's images depicting his war against isreal has been found amidst the assyrian ruins, emperor tutakamen's relics also provide evidence to another story in bible, all this however still donot give evidence that the bible was inspired by God,it simply confirms the bible is historically accurate.the new testament is a book which contains books by apostles of jesus narrating happenings in his life from their perspective.its possible they were inspired by God just as it is possiible they depended on hearsay and personal opinion.it's also curios that the gospel according to barnabas(the man who introduced saulcum paul to the others) was not included in the bible.its also curious that almost half of the new testament was writtn by paul, who never met jesus.the truth is jesus never wrote anything,he never even talked about a holy book, this came about 325 years after his death and almost 225 years after paul's death.truth is even if these men were inspired by God to write, the bible wasnt compiled by them, rather it was compiled by a pagan emperor who had an agenda, along with catholic bishops who decided to include aspects that will support their views and excluded those that did not.personallly i accept the bible as God's word even though a lot of time a lot of its content get me thinking but after studying widely,i got to understand a lot of things, though not everything. Nice one. |

thameamead: @sagamite Sir, Oyedepo is not different from David Cameron who you think flew to Majorca on Ryanair because he wanted to, Mr Cameron is nothing but a Master of spin, it was a publicity stunt to show he could live like ordinary people despite him bn a millionaire, evertthing he does is planned or scripted, he use to work in PR before he was given a safe seat in Withey,Oxfordshire.
Mr Cameron claimed large amounts of taxpayers money for mortgage interests on his £1M constituency home in Withey,Oxfordshire after paying off the mortage on his £2M london home, he claimed the maximum amount, infact he claimed the most in mortgage interest than any MP
Mr Cameron used taxpayers money to pay for utility bills, repairs including cleaning wisteris vines from a chimney, resealing his conservatory roof and replacing outside lights @ his Oxford home.
You seem very adept in Uk politics. I agree with your statements. Thanks for the correction of the analogy used in this case.
Mr Cameron initially put his personal photographer on taxpayers payroll until the left wing media leaked the story and their was public uproar, then he did a U-turn, don't forget he was not voted in by the public, he did not get a majority win despite the Murdoch mafia (The SUN @ THE TIMES) endorsing him, Rupert Murdoch endorsed Mr Camerom in exchange of Mr Cameron allowing Murdoch to buy the remainning shares in BSKYB. Murdoch is a foreigner who weighs too much power in the Uk, everybody is terrifired of crossing his path including the Metropolitan Police, Thank God for people like George Galloway, hopefully his Bksyb takeover won't go ahead.
Mr Cameron refused to establish whether Lord Ashcrof who was one of the biggest donors of the Tory Scums paid Uk taxes, Lord Ashcroft who has sustantial stakes in websites like ConservativesHome and PoliticsHomes, he owns main forums in which members of the party speak to each other. turns out Lord Ashcroft has invaded paying £113M in tax, that amount would stop a couple of centres for disabled and old people from closing due to the cuts, Thanks for the clarification. It did not seem like the appropiate analogy to use (on sagamite's part). Uk politicians are very skilled and manipulative, but hey, they still perform their duties. |
