The temptation to field all four of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil will be strong, though the fact that the Gunners’ opposition are the free-scoring champions of last season may force a rethink.

Ozil could feature as the most advanced of the three central midfielders in Emery’s 4-3-3, essentially playing in the hole behind Lacazette both with and without the ball to exact a high press.

Emery may, however, decide to shore up that central midfield trio, as he did last weekend when bringing on Matteo Guendouzi alongside Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira in the 2-0 win over Lazio.

The Gunners had looked shaky with only Xhaka and Torreira as protection for the back four and Guendouzi, who has played more minutes than any of Arsenal’s midfielders this summer, is an alternative option in the centre of the park.

But why would politicians like Kwankwanso, Tambuwal and Saraki choose to end their political careers like this? They are fully aware of Buhari's popularity in the South West and the whole NORTH, so why would they want to unseat him? Why would a politician who is known to be 'smart' (according to his followers) choose to fight an opponent they cannot defeat?

The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Haruna Isah has been declared winner of Saturdays controversial Kogi Koto-Karfe Federal Constituency bye-election held in Kogi State.

Recall that the bye election, according to reports, was marred with vote buying, ballot box snatching, thuggery, shooting and killing of some party supporters.

In the final results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC candidate polled 11,078 to defeat his closest rival, Engr Bashiru Abubakar of the PDP.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) came third and fourth polling 977 and 433 votes respectively.

The final result announced by INEC as obtained by DAILYPOST on Sunday is as follows:

Accord = 31, ADC = 977, APC = 11,078, DA = 47, LP = 14, NPN = 10, NCP = 39, PDP = 7,094 and SDP = 433.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of all Political Parties that contested the election have rejected the outcome, alleging harassment, intimidation and disruption of voting process in some polling units.

In a statement signed by Bode Ogumola, Comrade Ade Usman, Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), respectively, on behalf of the coalition, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Saturday, the coalition rejected in totality the way the said election was carried out.

Describing as horrible the shooting carried out by suspected APC thugs at Maigeri polling units in lokoja, the parties noted that the bye-election lacked credibility, and met the least standard of electioneering anywhere in the world.

The three political parties said that the election was characterized by the use of Security Agencies to disrupt the election.

The parties called for outright cancellation of the exercise, alleging that the State government officials were given cover by the Police, SARS, to protect political thugs in police uniforms to be snatching ballot boxes in virtually all the polling units in the federal constituency.

The three parties, particularly fingered the Kogi State Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja for allegedly using security agencies, and thugs to disrupt election in most polling units in Lokoja.

They added that with the cover of security agencies, thugs carted away ballot boxes and snatched boxes in Paparanda, St Mary Primary School, Adankolo, Bishop Crowther Lokoja and several other units in Kogi LGA during the election.

While the parties fingered the Council’s Administrators of Kogi, Omala, Okene, Ijumu, amongst others as government officials who perpetrated violence and used political thugs and the security agencies to make the bye-election lack credibility, they accused the ADC to governor Yahaya Bello and OC Mopol of dishing out command to their men to aid thugs to snatch boxes at the polling units they were loosing out.

The parties alleged further that the bye election was characterised by vote buying, with the APC opening shops in polling centres to buy votes.

Aside the press conference, the parties said it had, however, its complaints to the INEC, and the security agencies to address the irregularities it observed in the election.

It particularly called the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to set up an enquiry that would determine the level of violence perpetrated by the APC-led administration which led to several deaths of the peace and law abiding citizens of the state.

A woman was arrested after allegedly brutalising her housemaid with a hot knife. According to reports, the pregnant woman allegedly used hot knife to burn her maid's bum after wasting time while sent on an errand. It was also alleged that this is not the first time this kind of brutal punishment is being meted out on the little girl.

Report has it that due to the woman's condition, the police are refusing to prosecute her.

Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi has insisted that the level of corruption under the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration was worst than PDP’s 16 years.

Cheap…….! In terms of quality or cost. If it’s in terms of quality, that would be a terrible mistake, as your it would mean raising a high academic tower without structure. It terms of cost, Federal universities are cheaper to study for a Masters. In addition, universities in the North are very cheap because postgraduate education demand is low. In general, Postgraduate studies (Masters, PhD etal) is cheap in Nigeria, compared to many other countries.

Why do people prefer Federal Universities for Postgraduate study?
            For reason stated above, i.e cost. In addition, Federal universities are more funded and better staffed than state and private ones. There is also the advantage of access to international network to foreign research organizations and grants. Finally, many Federal universities have research institutes in their vicinity that aid academic research work.

Congratulations are in order for Chineme Ojukwu, the daughter of late Biafran warlord, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who graduated from the University of Brighton in England. 

The young lady graduated bagged a second class upper degree from Business Administration at the UK university. 

Her family members were present at her graduation ceremony to support her as her mother revealed how her late husband (Ojukwu) would have loved and been so proud of this moment. 

Bianca Ojukwu who shared pictures from the graduation ceremony, wrote; 

My dear friends, Thank God with me. Abuzi kwam ‘nne a graduate’. My beloved daughter Chi has just graduated from the University of Brighton with a 2:1 in Business Administration. I thank Almighty God for blessing me with a daughter who has literally been like a mother to me. I call her Nne m o.

This would have been a very proud moment also for her daddy. He used to call her ’Daddys secretary’ or ‘secretary gburugburu’ because as a child She loved to spend her afternoons after school with him in his office, playing with papers on the floor.

How time flies! It was a splendid ceremony and much anticipated family reunion.

Her brothers came in from the States while her Aunty, Ambassador Lilian Onoh, currently Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Namibia also flew into the UK for the ceremony. We joined friends for the post ceremony cocktail and then headed to Brighton Pier for a seaside treat!

A Nigerian man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a woman who rented a room from him online. The 34-year-old convict identified as Francis Ezenwankwo of Heston Street, SE14 was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and a five year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on Friday, 22 June at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

He was found guilty of assault by penetration at the same court on Thursday, 22 June.

According to the Metropolitan police, the court heard that on 5 August 2017 a woman visiting from another country rented a room at Ezenwankwo’s house via an online site, spareroom.co.uk. During the night the woman awoke to find Ezenwankwo in her bed.

Despite her protests, Ezenwankwo remained in her bed and sexually assaulted her.

The incident was reported to police and Ezenwankwo was arrested on 22 August 2017 - he was charged the same day.

The Sexual Harm Prevention Order prevents Ezenwankwo from offering any room for rent, reward or as a gift for five years.

Trainee Detective Constable Harriet Lyons, from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command said:

“The victim has shown real strength in coming forward and reporting to police. I encourage anyone else who may have been a victim to come forward and contact the police.

“Ezenwankwo's sentence and Sexual Harm Prevention Order demonstrates how seriously the police and the courts taken this type of offending. I hope that it will act as a deterrent to others.”
