Foreign AffairsFuel Shortages In France As Refineries Are Blockaded By Striking Workers by DaV8King(op): 6:17pm On May 23, 2016
See wetin my eye dey see, fellow Nigerians. shocked grin

Shey it happens only to us according to some.

Please discuss

Hundreds of French petrol stations have run dry and the unions say five oil refineries are being blockaded as protesters fight against government labour reforms.
Queues were reported at petrol stations in many areas of France, especially in the north and west, but in Paris too.
However, the transport minister said it was wrong to talk of petrol shortages.
For the past week, protests have taken place across France after new labour rules were forced through parliament.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls invoked special powers under the constitution to avoid a revolt by dozens of Socialist MPs earlier this month.

But his decision to bypass parliament infuriated opponents. Last week, two police officers in central Paris narrowly escaped serious injury when their police car was set alight.
By Monday morning, the CGT labour union said that five of France's eight oil refineries were out of action, from Martigues near Marseille in the south to Gonfreville-l'Orcher at Le Havre in the north.
Union spokesman Emmanuel Lepine said the "aim is not to create shortages, the aim is to secure the withdrawal of the labour law".

Police moved in to unblock many of the petrol depots across France which had been blockaded for days and Mr Valls said everyone should be clear that the government would do its utmost to avoid shortages.
However, some 1,600 of France's 12,000 petrol stations had either run dry or were running short of supplies by late Monday morning.
French petrol industry association UFIP said it had enough supplies but could not distribute them normally.
Finance Minister Michel Sapin has condemned the blockade of refineries as illegal.

French labour reform bill - main points
The 35-hour week remains in place, but as an average. Firms can negotiate with local trade unions on more or fewer hours from week to week, up to a maximum of 46 hours
Firms are given greater freedom to reduce pay
The law eases conditions for laying off workers, strongly regulated in France. It is hoped companies will take on more people if they know they can shed jobs in case of a downturn
Employers given more leeway to negotiate holidays and special leave, such as maternity or for getting married. These are currently also heavily regulated

PoliticsNigerian Military Arrests Niger Delta Avengers- BBC by DaV8King(op): 12:57pm On May 16, 2016

Nigeria arrests 'Avengers' oil militants

The Nigerian army has arrested several suspected members of a militant group called the "Niger Delta Avengers", thought to be behind recent attacks on oil pipelines in the south.
The country's oil production has been severely disrupted by the attacks.
US oil giant Chevron shut down an offshore platform this month after an attack claimed by the Avengers group.
Many militants joined an amnesty programme in 2009 after an insurgency in the oil-rich delta region.
Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer, but its economy is currently facing difficulties due to the recent drop in global oil prices.

FamilyPoise And Grace 101 by DaV8King(op): 10:22am On May 11, 2016
The elite/upper class believes it a thing of poise , grace and something worth displaying when your children exhibits politeness courtesy and good manners

In their own opinion, children who lack good manners are of the commoners

Please, carefully look into the list below to see where you may want to make amends , on yourself or the young ones you are caring for.

Children, if not properly groomed may never get to the Top in life

Manners take you to where your education cant irrespective of your Status, money or the who you know factor.

1) going to your child's school dressed indecently? Think again

2) speaking rashly to your child's teacher

3) cursing, using foul words or swearing in front of your children

4) using makeup on children

5) dressing indecently for children (they loose the sense of their princess hood)

6) putting earrings on your son's ears

7) your child hold the cup or glass ware by the brim and you don't correct

cool your children don't greet and you just feel they will come around one day

9) your children eat with their mouth opened and you feel they will grow up some day

10) your children bring home something you did not buy and you say nothing

11) they talk Back at you and you conclude its okay since you are a 21st century mummy

12) They interrupt when you are speaking with another adult and you think they are bold and clever

13) They exercise authority over their nanny and domestic staff and you let them be

14) they say things like my driver is on His way...

I am not an advocate that children should call your domestic staff aunty or brother, calling them by name when they are not young people is not poise either
The use of Miss, Mr or Mrs will look good on them.

15) your children don't say Thank you when they have been helped or served something and you are cool with that

16) when your children cannot stand children who are less privileged

18) when they pick their nose with their hands

19) when they don't wash their hands after visiting the washroom

20) when your children take something from the fridge without taking permission

21) when your children don't knock on closed doors

22) when your children don't collect from your hands the stuff you bought in as you walk in through the door.

23) when your children request for a bribe to carry out their home chores or extra task.

24) when your children act like their grand parents irritate them

25) when your children have not learned to get up from the chair for the elderly to sit
26) when your child tell a lot of lies

27) when your child ask 'who is that' at a knock on your door instead of 'please, who is there'

28) when your child is always seated by your visitors when being served drinks etc.

29) when your children still point their fingers at other people

30) when your children play and jump around when prayers are going on.(age 4 above)

Pls circulate to all parents. Mods, 3 course meal here grin grin!

And why exactly are service Chiefs driving BMW 7series!! This is a luxury car. Why does a camry not suffice.
Blame the system. And the need for added protection. Service Chiefs and the IG have always used (for at least 5 years now) the 7 Series as official cars. See

https://www.nairaland.com/2352743/official-cars-nigerian-service-chiefs.

Have seen convoys of previous CDS with 7 series, however I have seen recent pictures of General Olonisakin alighting from a Peugeot 508 (Very good, cheaper car and assembled in Nigeria).

http://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2016/04/bauchi-military-exercise-targets-criminal-hideouts-buratai/

My own 2kobo on the car carrying wahala. The CAS is a 3 star general, and that Bimmer is very likely armored to at least B6 level protection(defeats AK and M-16 rounds at >5 meters).

And he is throwing a f*** you party in Bauchi, right on the edge of the heat of battle. Boko commanders can never be happy about that, so him carrying above-described BMW aboard an aircraft that was already tasked with personnel rotation duties(as evidenced by the group of women in the picture) is not too much to do for his protection.

Strategic thinking being applied by all Nigerians is what will save this nation.
Stop and analyse things sometimes. We live in a complex world nowadays.

OBJ and Theophilus Danjuma (COAS, later Defence minister) almost killed our military.

The advice they got from the Americans and Europeans, that pruning and downsizing the Nigerian military makes it more effective proved to be monumentally false and a stup1d move.

There's a direct correlation between having a small, peacekeeping style military and insecurity. They are like the ying and yang, Inseparable!

The tactics BH employed were also entirely new, that was another source of frustration in the beginning. We couldn't just deploy "scorched earth tactics" or shell civilian areas. We also didn't even know the enemy. He was everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

We've now gotten a hang on, and the results continue to improve. However, BH is a long term fight. We cannot defeat an ideology, we can only contain it. There are many factors which make defeating BH impossible, some of the factors are completely beyond our control.

My personal satisfaction would be the day we are able to deploy 70% local land systems. APCs, IFVs, HMGs,n surveillance equipment et al.

ISIS..... Is nothing. BH has committed more atrocities in the last 12 months in Nigeria, than has ISIS in Syria. There's nothing ISIS would throw we haven't seen before. What we need is to improve upon the gains we've been recording, purchase proper assets, especially long range bombers, continue with a flexible training regime. Dominate the grounds.
I agree with you and then some. However, we should also consider CBRN and NBC capability, enough to at least contain a minor nuclear disaster with all the whispers of ISIS possibly having access to nuclear material.

sammily:
We have been using this prepaid meter (picture attached) in our family house in festac which we got since the time of NEPA. Its uses a smart card which we take to their office to load, and then insert the card into the meter to transfer the credit into it.

But since the introduction of the discos (EKO Electricity Distribution Coy), we have been unable to recharge the meter, they told us they don't have the machine to load the card again (as if it all just suddenly disappear with PHCN). We were advised to pay for a new prepaid meter again, which we did but to date they keep saying to meter.

Now the current meter is running out of credit (luckily the last recharge was large), that's why it could last this long, with the fact that they hardly give us power (light) here, and we've been strictly conserving it since.

Has anyone gone through or is going through similar problems with this Disco coy and is there a way one can still load/recharge the card for this prepaid meter?

PS; what is even the rational for telling us to pay for another prepaid meter when we paid for the last one, like it is my fault that they changed their name form NEPA to PHCH to Discohuh undecided undecided undecided
Please check your NL email sir. I promise you will not regret it smiley grin

PoliticsRe: Despite Cash Crunch, Nigeria Donates Vehicles To Benin Republic by DaV8King(m): 2:14pm On Feb 29, 2016
OKDnigeria:
Nigeria has donated 15 cars and 100 motorcycles
to the electoral commission of neighbouring Benin.
The Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic,
Lawrence Obisakin, during the donation, lauded
President Muhammadu Buhari's efforts at asserting
Nigeria's leadership in Africa.

Mr. Obisakin said this in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria in Cotonou on the
sidelines of the donation of 15 Hilux vehicles and
100 motorcycles to the Independent Electoral
Commission of Benin by Nigeria.

The outgoing ambassador said the gesture would
further strengthen the excellent bilateral
relationship between the two countries.

"I want to say bravo to President Muhammadu
Buhari, the government and the people of Nigeria,
and the diplomacy of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria."

The diplomat said the donations were made
despite the financial challenges facing Nigeria.
"We know the economic conjuncture of Nigeria,
However, our president, in his wisdom in spite of
the economic difficulties, has been able to be
sensitive to the dire need of Benin.

"President Buhari, in his wisdom, has been able to
find a way of helping a country that needs by far
more assistance," he said.

Mr. Obisakin said the people of Benin were grateful
and will continually show appreciation over
Nigeria's support.

"You heard the Chairman of Benin Electoral
Commission saying this is the most welcome gift
that they've ever received because the election is
next week Sunday.

"It is a presidential election and it promises to be
very keen and very serious and they need the
means because Benin is one of the least-
developed countries.

"So, Nigeria is lifting up Benin just like Europe,
Germany and Britain, did to the Southern countries.
"This goes to show that Nigeria is indeed a
friendly nation, Nigeria is a country that is
sensitive to the needs of others," he said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Bulus Lolo, also commended Mr. Buhari,
saying he had given visibility to Nigeria's
contributions to African countries since his
assumption of office.

"As far as I know, we have supported several
countries but visibility being given is only under
the Buhari's administration.

"The quantum of support may even be more by
previous governments, but they did not take the
necessary step to make it public.
"You can see that marked on these vehicles is an
inscription: 'Donated by the Federal Republic of
Nigeria', that is an advertisement that you are
making.

"Clearly, wherever these vehicles go, everyone
seeing them will know that they have come from
the Government of Nigeria. We made donations in
the past but we did not declare."

Mr. Lolo had earlier presented the items to Tiando
Emmanuel, President, Commission Electorale
Nationale Autonome of Benin toward the March 6
general elections in the country.
