University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has warned the Federal Government over its plan to rename their Alma mater after the late Biafra warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu. The association suggested the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as a more befitting institution to be named after Ojukwu. Ojukwu is a graduate of NDA.

Late Nigerian Nationalist Dr Nnamdi Azikwe rejected calls for UNN to be named after him when he was alive, insisting UNN should retain its name. University of Jos Alumni association Lagos Plateau State branch also called sent an open letter to President Jonathan, stating the association does not approve of proposals in the Presidency to rename UNIJOS after former Nigerian President General Yakubu Gowon.
