Foreign Affairs › Re: Tension In Gabon As President Bongo Is Said To Be Of Nigerian Heritage by dBard: 5:26pm On Dec 23, 2014 |
since1914: The protest is only a symptom of a much deeper problem-bad leadership. If Ali Bongo Ondimba was a good leader, I doubt if his people would be contesting his nationality. I think the Gabonese have endured enough, unfortunately, they are playing the wrong card. They should be demanding his resignation based on the massive corruption Ali and his family has visited on the country, rather than hearsays about his nationality.
So far the Bongo Ondimba family have ruled Gabon for nearly fifty years. A period during which they have amassed stupendous wealth. The Bongo family amongst other assets own no less than 39 residences across France, including an £85million townhouse in Paris.
The Nigerian government must be on alert so that no harm comes the way of Nigerians living in Gabon. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should as matter of urgency issue a strong advance warning to the Gabonese government that they must ensure the safety of Nigerians living there. There should also be putting together a contingent evacuation plan if need be. Most sensible comment I've read so far, especially concerning the safety of fellow Nigerians who could get hurt as a fallout of the protests. Hope the foreign office acts proactively to negate such from happening. |

preshuzpearl: I wish her the best.
I develop goose pimples all over whenever I hear about Chimamanda. She's so successful in what she does even though I don't really like her books.
I love the fact that she brings out the best descriptions and knows exactly what her readers want.
Looking forward to watching the movie. I kinda agree with you on her books..they're very well written and engaging but with an inherent depressing quality abt them I just don't understand. still spend good money looking up her books tho. Hope dey don't mess up the movie adaptation like dey did Half of a Yellow Sun *still vexing f that one** |

This is the reason I know APC is not the change ppl are looking forward to cos so far the best thing that has happened in APC was their impressively orderly national convention. Aside that it's been blatant acts of disregard to the rules of law, treasonable talks, disorderliness n rowdiness. Actions that were rarely seen are now the norm...parallel dis n dat.
This is not APC or PDP, it's my observation.

chaircover: One thing I am sure of is that all both TEHN and Nairalanders as a whole even though there are disagreements, are are very passionate about DJ's recovery.
I know that there has been a delay in getting a diagnosis and without a diagnosis we are really still at square one. This however was not taken lightly and a lot of discussions & frustrations occured in the background & some of the questions raised here have already been raised too. Unfortunately we were at the hands of the doctors and everything we did we did in the thought that we were doing the best for DJ.
Please please and please let us all work together. There is a life at stake here & this is the only reason why we are here.
Lets focus this energy on sitting down and working out ways at moving forward. We are all here because we care. No one knows DJ from Adam, but we are all here because you want our brother to live.
We all need each others input, expertise, ideas and support so that we can do the best for DJ. He needs us to be focussed and not divided so we can come up with the best option for him.
Lets move forward please. May God direct us all, give us all the wisdom and may He lay his healing hand upon DJ sorry to derail, but how do I become a part of the network? |

Sweetlemon: Gbam!
Don't mind all these wannabe feminists.
My aunt no sabi book but that woman can ask her hubby for N1m this minute and he will her N2m instead.
It's all about finding the right one for you. making sure you don't accept just any Tom, D.ic.k, or Harry's ring just because you want to marry.
Babyosisi and co should be preaching more of choosing the right partner than having education, jobs, etc. Those things are important for the woman yes. But that does not mean that a university girl cannot marry while still in school if she meets a nice guys that is financially comfortable enough. Finishing her education and getting a job before marriage to have "something to fall back on" does not automatically guarantee anything. My issue most times with their advice is how it usually borders on strategies n tactics as if marriage is a game or competition or something not realizing the dynamics in marriage is totally different. well, advice most times is usually sold for far more than its worth. |

Ilovenigeria: Thank you very much!!! This is what happens when women think that when you get married and offer him your virginity, that will be all. Don't be surprised that the lady the hubby intends marrying Might be a runs girl but she really knows how to make the man happy and stay out of his hairs?
I wonder why some women can just relax and enjoy their marriage to the fullest. When you nagged and pushed him away, where do you think he goes to drink and rest? Enjoy your marriage, instead of looking for who to fight or nagg just focus that energy on your kids.
Some nights ago, I saw my neighbours hubby selling his wares @ikeja under bridge around 9:30pm shouting on top of his voice. Only for me to later see his wife fighting him for coming home late that same night.
Honestly we should help our men for our marriage to work. Sometimes give then benefits of doubts, trust and respect them, give them their space and time, and above them show them love and kindness. Thank God dis is coming from a lady. My wife's friend was also in this kinda situation..dating a banker n very insecure cos of the difference in status n u can guess how that rtnship ended. My ex was d same way during my service yrs,esp in camp..Calling,checking up,nagging to d point I dreaded seeing her calls, and yet I avoided situations that will compromise me cos of her to the point my fellow female corp members were calling me gay..long story short, am married n not to her. It's quite simple, recognize ur insecurities n work on it. Every man just wants peace of mind. I think the o.ps husband is making a mistake with this marriage to his love but I understand d y. The o.p is the architect, builder n decorator of her own misfortune n I doubt she has the mental fortitude to deal with the subsequent 'matters arising' |

cytochromeC: So, the best revenge \punishment for an insecure wife is to bring in another wife? I don't get this. They are even doing the wedding in a big way by printing IV and fully involving the his family in the event. Can we all put ourselves in her shoes for one second? Especially the men justifying the husband's actions because of her imperfections. How would you feel if your wife of 10years brought in her family members in preparation of her wedding to another man simply because she's fed up of you attitude? Why is everyone forgetting married men are not perfect either? How would the children feel seeing their dad get married to another woman when their mum is still alive and living in their dad's house.
If the man felt he couldn't cope with the wife's actions, then he shouldnt have accepted her back after the separation. It is highly disrespectful of him to do this to the mother of his children who stays under the same roof with him. And to think she only got to know through his family and the IV.
Op, love never existed in your marriage. Unfortunately, there was no mutual trust and respect too. Cursing the father of your children is very silly, so you might wanna have a rethink. Pick up what's left of your dignity and return to you parent's house to take care of yourself and your children. Your husband is OBVIOUSLY tired of you and the marriage. He was never into you. No one is excusing wat the husband has planned but he didn't come to nairaland looking for empathy, d o.p did. The bible in proverbs said..it's beta to live at the corner of a rooftop than in the same house with a nagging, contentious woman. A woman such as d o.p. Will u in all honesty blame the man for ?looking for love. (albeit in d wrong place/way). The fact the family is fully involved should tell u a lot. I've bin in such a situation before..it's not an easy one to cope with. |

APC by denying Amaechi d V.P slot has made him lose wat lil remaining credibility he had in the state and this will gradually cause an erosion of his power base. Also, it has created the impression that the South, no matter their contribution, will Not be considered important in the scheme of things.

Women need to know that going after women linked to their husbands diminishes his attraction to them. All the time she was busy humiliating her husband by harassing his colleagues, she should have sat him down. Truly, they barely knew each other, but it is strangers that become friends then lovers. After being embarassed by his wife, the man must have started having second thoughts about the person he married. women need to be less insecure. Well said especially@2nd part. |

Have read the posts and don't understand why peeps will be consoling the o.p making her feel exonerated wen clearly she Was In The Wrong! This is not abt feminism but the TRUTH. @o.p..clearly you have/had issues, and unlike wat most ppl here are saying, it has nothing to do wit whether u were working or uneducated (cos clearly you must've bin in school then) because the issue here is a character flaw that u Were unwilling to deal with. U guys didn't marry f love, that much is obvious but sometimes, the willingness to make the marriage work is just as important. U clearly allowed ur insecurities possess u. I've bin wit an insecure girl b4 n I know first hand how frustrating that can be . Calling n harassing his contacts was, frankly, going too far. I can just imagine d embarrassments. U also, probably thinking he won't cope, stayed away from ur husband f 3 Months Haba! In this time n age, with girls on d prowl everywhere Wat probably happened is..d nu wife must've taken advantage of the opportunity u presented n ur husband having failed with the 'decent, homely wife' he chose now wants to try f love cos I think he truly/thinks he truly loves her. Guaranteed, ur husband wasn't patient enough to deal with ur insecurities and is making the classical grass is greener mistake but it's already too far gone rite now. You @o.p, have got 2choices, to stay or to leave. Make it carefully, keeping in mind that u will have to live watching another woman getting all the attention that should be coming to you and that can create bitterness which will end up engulfing the family (children especially). Do the right thing. Peace. P.s; revoke ur curses n edit it off ur posts. That is just wrong and wicked. |

mazzi: shatap, amaechi is an object of mockery in rivers state. Amaechi became hugely unpopular wen he was seen to be 'continously' antagonizing his 'Brother'. The situation became worse wen the general perception was that he was using state resources to fund wat is largely seen as an islamists ambition, especially to the detriment of those in the state. Case in point is the last primaries where, tho salaries hadn't bin paid in the state, we heard Amaechi had backed Buhari up with 11billion Maura n all this done cos everyone assumed he was going to be the Running mate to Buhari . In order words, Amaechi was fuckin up but this woulda bin understandable cos he was pursuing his own ambition which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but with the situation on ground now, he is nothing but an object of ridicule n ppl are gleefully exercising their right to freedom of speech.
