IGARRA not to be mistaken for IGALA, although out close relatives is a tribe in Akoko-edo local government of Edo state.
We are the only tribe in Edo state whose language has no resemblance to the other tribes in Edo state lyk benin,esan etc. We are basically the odd balls. The "tribe" closest to us who we understand is the Ebira tribe locally close by in Kogi. Infact we shud b in Kogi state.
I want my fellow tribes men/women to identify with our brothers/sisters in Ebira more cos we are one. What is spoken in Igarra is known as Etuno and it is not a dialect of Ebira. Igarra is a dialect of the Oshuku Language. It is a misnomer to think or assume that Igarra is a subset of Ebira just because of the higher population of Ebira people. This is very fallacious. In certain parts of Benue, Taraba and particularly in a town called Okuku in Cross River State, the language spoken is very similar to Etuno Language and these peoples of these other states mentioned are not and have never been described as Ebiras. The word Ebira is applicable to only those in Kogi State. This recent attempt to impose it as the generic name as against the correct Oshuku appellation is politically motivated and championed by the Kogi State dwellers just to seek greater political relevance at the center. Igarra is not an Ebira town. In fact the Ebiras who live in Igarra do form Ebira Unions meaning they themselves acknowledge that they are not in Ebiraland.
In addition, there is an Ebira Quarters in Igarra where Ebiras live separately just as they have them in other towns like Auchi, Ososo, etc. If they were same people as Igarrans, they wouldn't have isolated themselves to live in a separate part of the town.

Overnight Major Ifeajuna sent orders to the first battalion in Enugu asking them to deploy soldiers to take over key installations and arrest government ministers in Enugu and Benin. As there was no military formation in the Mid west, no soldiers could be deployed directly from the region. For several hours the officers mulled over the strange but seemingly legitimate order (my explanation: operationally, the first battalion was under the command of the Lagos-based second brigade commanded by Brigadier Maimalari. Ifeajuna was the brigade major and could pass off instructions in that capacity, but they must be approved by Maimalari, a no-nonsense officer who trusted his brigade major. Alas, he was not aware of the illegality Ifeajuna was perpetrating in his official capacity). Finally, they took position at the Enugu airport in the early hours of the morning. A different company of soldiers under Captain Joseph Ihedigbo also headed to the Mid west region’s capital of Benin. Yet the same Ifeajuna drove past Benin that very day but couldn't just stop over briefly to see how far those he stationed in Benin were able to do their duty? You are indeed a clown. Max Silloun is a very brash revisionist. He was not a soldier in the first instance talkless of being a participant in the coup to warrant him having first hand knowledge of what happened anywhere. On the other hand Nzeogwu who was a participant in the whole thing said in the interview as follows: "......In the East, Nothing practically was done. They let us down"

So they spared Okpara because he had as guest the head of state of Cyprus? Okay, which visitor did Dennis Osadebe too have that made them spare him too?
So after Makarios had departed, why not then proceed to kill Okpara? You must have thought you are talking to kids on Nairaland.

But long before the coup, it became public knowledge that Azikiwe had travelled out of the country and was already overstaying his return date yet they still went ahead to carry out the coup. That Ademoyega wrote it in his book does not automatically make it the truth. No author writes a book to indict himself but to justify himself and rationalize his actions and opinions however stupid and wrong they might be. So when reading a book you don't swallow everything in it hook line and sinker else you will be a fool. When you read a book therefore, you actually read between the lines in order to separate the truth from the lies. Ademoyega made some very terrible self contradictions in his book which cannot be easily noticed by a shallow brain like yours. For example in one of the pages he claimed that the coup's major objective was to root out the corruption rampant in the corridors of power being perpetrated by the government of the day. In another page he claims that those of them in the plot had started the plot since 1961. Now the question is this: Nigeria gained independence just two months before the dawn of 1961. What corruption could a new government which had hardly fully settled down in office have so much perpetrated all within two months to warrant planning a coup to topple it? There are many other similarly illogical claims in Ademoyega's book which only show that the book is more of a poorly thought out plethora of lies aimed at rationalizing a very senseless killing spree committed by his friends in the army.

At least two attempts have been made to return Nigeria to true federalism but both of them were frustrated by Igbos again. Ask Nwabueze.

If Ironsi had, after his so-called stoppage of the coup, simply court-martialled Nzeogwu and co and got them sentenced to death for mutiny, and then replaced the slain premiers with their deputies, sworn in Dipcharima as Balewa's replacement and returned to the barracks as a professional soldier, would Gowon have later gor to power to do whatever you accuse him of doing? Would Nigeria have later fallen into the hands of mediocres like Murtala Muhammed, Obasanjo, Shagari, Buhari, IBB, Abacha and all the rest who misruled and put us in this mess today? Anyhow one looks at it, Ironsi had a good opportunity to write his name in gold in the history of Nigeria and save us the Nigerian tragedy by simply being very professional at that moment of the coup but his greed for power which he had no idea how to even use got the better part of him and he misadventured into politics thus further worsening the already tense situation. Ironsi remains the worst thing to ever happen to Nigeria and not even the Nzeogwu coup.
