PrinceAdeAde:
Hello All,

Thanks for the information and support. My journey ends here. Just some tips based on my wife second US birthing experience
1. You need two valid means of identifications(preferably driver's licence & international passport) to process and collect US docs(Birth certificate,US Passport). My wife licence expired before she traveled and she forgot this requirement so it was not as straightforward as her first experience. Alternatively, you can use work ID or any US resident to identify you.

2. Visa on Arrival is way cheaper and hassle free than it is made to look(the only cheaper option on the long run is if you are in atlanta and go for the baby nigerian passport). Just send a mail to oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng requesting for one using the format shared previously on the forum and you would be responded to early enough. in my case,I got a response the same day and please do it yourself and dont pay any money. Its free. Surprisingly,my wife mentioned they did not even look at any letter at Lagos Airport to give our baby the visa. Note that houston immigration requested to sight the actual email so you may want to keep your phone and email handy to avoid complications

Am always available on PM to assist with any further information.Good luck to all expecting mums and Dads. God Bless

I used Emirates. My inbound journey to Lagos from Houston, i had excess luggage. You are entitled to 2 bags nt weighing more than 23kg. But if the bags re overweight i.e. weigh more than 23kg, u'll pay $50 per overwighed bag and dat over-weighed bag can be as heavy as 32kg max.

My understanding of extra luggage is that asides from d 2 bags of 23kg, if u want to carry more bags, u can purchase additional bag at $175 per extra bag.

Hope its helpful.

PrinceAdeAde:
Hello All,

Did anyone fly emirates recently back from the US. I am getting conflicting info from the different emirate office about "extra weight".
The local call center here states that my wife can purchase additional 9kg extra weight to take her current 23kg baggage weight to a maximum of 32kg at a $50 fee. The US emirate contact center however are singing a different tune by saying she cannot go beyond her 23kg and she would need to purchase an extra baggage at $175 which can be discounted if purchased online. I assume both calls were picked from thier centralized contact center in india so I dont understand why the discrepancy in information

Dont know which is which so anyone who flew them with "extra weight" not "excess luggage" should be weigh in

Affordability is relative. You are looking for a 1 or 2 bed furnished apartment.

What you find around for a traveller on a budget is a room leased out in an apartment where you live with the host, not have the house to yourself, except for some airbnb apartments. A lot of mamas have stayed in houston and alot are presently there, budget travellers. Maybe check Chenonye's moniker, she recently posted on your request.

Other family members with visa should pick the dropbox option, while the one without a visa is scheduled for an interview. If a minor, one of the parent with a visa would accompany the minor for an interview.

Can I do a dropbox and include a family member who has not been issued a US visa before...?

I am assuming yo were pregnant during interview, because u left that out.

In my opinion, go for your holiday, visit your mother in law and take tours of the hosp and the doctor's office (you already have Dr's appointment sef). Return to work and then travel back for birthing, then you have not lied.

That better medical care can be found in lagos and abuja hospitals, so make up your mind on ur main reason for travelling to the US to birth your baby.
MizKay1:
Good Morning,

So I got my B1/B2 visa. Never lied at the interview. I was just asked if i was going on holiday and about my work. I said yes.

Travelling to have my baby was never even on the plan until a few weeks ago due to need for better medical attention and I was not satisfied with the hospital i was using even though i had changed hospitals twice. and asides that my MIL who would ordinarily help out has been in the US for a while now and asked that i come rather than be here without help as she wont be able to make it down to Nigeria before my EDD due to the fact that she is undergoing treatment.

I was searching for something else and i stumbled on this platform. So after reading extensively, i called the embassy and asked if i could have my baby in the US tho i didnt state earlier, they asked for my passport details to verify. The lady who answered me said she could not give information as regards that but referred me to the CBP website to read up on the risks.
Do you think i have complicated the situation by calling the embassy?
Kindly advise.
I have all my funds and have booked a Dr's appointment.

Thank you.

Gbam.
abujaniv:
Hello. We don’t normally post in this thread, but it seemed worthwhile to drop in and correct some misconceptions. We say this a lot, but it bears repeating: Birth tourism is legal in the US provided the applicant is open about their intention and pays the medical expenses in full. This means that the applicant should declare any such intention they have at the Embassy/Consulate and again at the port of entry.

If it happens that the applicant gets pregnant well after the initial visa interview, they will have the opportunity to make their intention, medical preparations and financial resources known at the POE. However, it will remain up to Customs and Border Patrol whether to allow that applicant into the country. Some are not, and they are put on the next flight home. This must be extremely uncomfortable for a heavily pregnant person, to spend 15-20 hours on a flight to America, several more hours being questioned, then another 15-20 hours on a plane home. This is what we want to avoid.

Onto some other misconceptions:
The concept of the “change of intent” letter is not valid. These e-mails are not read nor correlated with the applicant’s file. Some people who send such letters may get a form letter in response, but it is an informational in nature and in no way confers permission to amend the declared purpose of travel. What matters is what you declare at the Embassy/Consulate and at the POE. After the fact e-mails do not carry any weight.

Some applicants say, “I applied for only the B2 visa to declare my medical intent.” The B1/B2 visa categories are conjoined, so applying for only one does not make any difference. Other applicants say, “I appeared at the window with a big belly,” as if this alone is enough to declare their medical intent. Again, the responsibility is on the applicant to be honest about what they plan to do in the US.

Other considerations:
Medical care is expensive in the US, and costs can escalate dramatically if there are complications.
Credibility is paramount in the US visa process. If visa officers detect any deception or obfuscation, no amount of excuses, documents or receipts will make up for the loss of credibility.

Some will come here with spurious stories and once the responses they read aint wat they want to hear, they come up with 'u aint vo/cbp' defence. Since sunday, i ve read all sorts of comments and i cant agree more with the old timers.

I am not an old timer and the records are there to show. i read this thread May 2016 when i wanted to embark on this journey and i am doing it that again already.

Get ur wife pregnant and come and cry 'foul play'. Get visa for vacation and suddenly cant afford vacation but can afford childbirth, as if its 'chicken change'.

Like i said b4, i am praying that i finish childbearing b4 the 'bridge is burnt'.

Like Twood posted recently, guilty by association is a repercussion genuine travellers will suffer.

Back to my 'siddon look' mode.

On point and in point 110%.

To some asking whether we are vo/cbp, i read the last sentences of the posters messages and my understanding is that they asked for my opinion, they culd ve refrained from posting on this thread if they wanted 'courtesy'. By the way, I dont even understand what 'courtesy' mean again.
Onegai:

I believe the issue is, frequency. A situation comes up and it's understandable. 3 in 10 will have these issues and that's fine. But when 9 out of 10 show up, with the same "issue" and excuse, then it becomes suspicious. In the past, no-one cared as long as you paid your bills. They were delighted to welcome new citizens sef. Even UK was begging Nigerians who schooled abroad to apply for British citizenship. But what happens now? The system got abused and at Heathrow, Nigerians are treated like criminals and grilled aggressively. Same thing is beginning to happen in the US: someone came here a few weeks ago to say how a CBP officer tried to deter her by saying they no longer allowed foreigners to come give birth. I kept quiet, even though I could have mentioned that in my former county (a nice, liberal county), they found a home for wealthy Koreans used to organize childbirth tourism and called police on them and had them escorted out, it was on the news because protesters even showed up. Last month, a nurse at one of the popular hospitals mentioned on this thread was grilling my cousin "Why are so many Nigerians coming here, it's because of the birth by citizenship isn't it?" during her labour. Nigerians tend to see something, it makes sense and they flood it unthinkingly until it crashes (everyone does makeup and sings and is a model/designer now, before everyone entered IT, before then everyone sold lace, then everyone rushed into Banking etc).

Be honest: I'm going to give birth, here is my plan. Yes or No?

Once the embassy says "No need for letter of intent" and Trump's strategists push the new law for extreme vetting of visa applicants, including vetting their social media, next thing they will work on is that in 5 to 10 years' time, constitutional amendment: citizenship by birth and parental only. UK, France and Germany is suffering from from second generation (children of immigrants) turning into terrorists (they can't deport citizens). You think the US is not considering modifying things already? Okay na.

And for those saying "I have millions, I don't live in America by choice, I don't need them blah blah", great. Then why go there and hassle to give birth? The truly rich Nigerians are turning down US citizenship, in fact once you go to the US and spend some serious dough acquiring assets, they offer you citizenship (the entire family). No need for "please what is the cheapest state blah blah".

From what i have read today, i am of the view that some of us genuinely have fraudulent intent and this is not a matter of 'i didnt know it was legal to give birth in the US'. because if you had thot that it was truly illegal to give birth and you didnt disclose this at d interview, why then misrepresent during the visa interview with the intention of circumventing the law and deceiving the US officials for a false vacation, knowing ur intention is to birth your baby.

I am praying hard that I finish childbearing b4 Nigerians 'burn this bridge'.

Good advice is relative in this case.

Do your research as you have said and follow ur heart.
Why dont you go for summer next month as planned and then proceed for childbirth lateron.

Twood and Justwise may have some words for you.
goobyparks:
Hello lovely people !
Please this is my case:
I got a B1/B2 visa this June with hubby & son, said we were going on summer vacation next month. (Shld have read nairaland before doing that).
My EDD is November and I plan to travel October (i'm thinking of Texas coz I heard hospital is cheaper there, still researching abt that)
I can't write to embassy for change of intent coz I'm scared of rejection since I didn't declare that I will give birth there during d visa interview (tho I wasn't asked if I was pregnant, d VO jst faced only hubby). They might calculate and know that we lied
Now I think I'm left with looking for an easy POE.

Pls what do you all think? I need your good advice.
Also pls which POEs are easier?

Today is Super story day.

To the 1st poster in Qatar, since you are 'capable' of footing the bill for childbirth, then you should be able to afford the vacation has earlier stated during the interview.

Besides, i assume you had the 2 children in Nig, what has suddenly changed to birth this one abroad?

I usually dont do this, but i kind of share Twood's and Justwise' POV on this. People get pregnant everyday with afterthought of birthing in the US.

In my opinion, send your family on vacation has planned, not compulsory you join them. Besides, wont the kids be in school in June?

This your story get some k-leg sha but not like we have not read several stories like this on thia thread.

Are you pregnant? Either yes or no, apply for your B1/B2, then further specify Tourism/medical treatment (B2). Fill the DS160 form on the US embassy website, no link, google it.

Before interview, research on the doctor you want to see for your medical issues, start corresponding with him/her, probably send your medical report to him etc and let him confirm that has scheduled you for an appointment. Also try to have an idea what your medical issues will cost. Your email correspondence with him and a fee quote of whatever medical procedure you may undertake are documents you will take along for your interview.

You also need to show that you have the funds to cover the medical expenses and strong ties to bring you back to Nigeria because every Non-immigrant visa applicant is presumed to likely abscond in the US and not return to Naija.

Hello my great E family!!!!!!!!! am really happy to be part of you guys!

I have some concerns which I will like to share with my noble family. I applied for student visa to Canada this year Jan but was denied though they stated I can re apply, but what pained me so much was that my company wanted to sponsor it.

That's by the way, I had plans to to see a gynea for medical investigation if i have gotten my Canadian visa but since they denied me I have made up my mind to apply to USA on medical grounds.

I have also applied for a pleasure (vacation) visit last year to USA but was also denied. am confused as I don't know if I will also be denied if I applied on medical grounds.

PLEASE my great family I need your advice as in what to do and how to go about it.

Generally, hotels anywhere in Sydney are very pricey. But hotels in Sydney CBD cost an arm...if you get what I mean. Transportation isn't that expensive and you could easily get trains to Sydney CBD and save money by staying in surburbs like Ryde, Parramatta, Granville, Banstown, Liverpool, Epping etc

Well it depends on where the conference is located. There are short stay accommodation that you can get in Sydney and trust me they are way cheaper than hotels. You can google short stay accommodations close to the conference and you might be lucky to get one closer to the conference then you can walk down and you won't have to incur cost on transportation.

I know someone who has a similar issue, for the baby's 1st name. As I speak, she has not gotten her baby's US passport because of the name change. I advise u probably get an attorney to help u out, its may be quite complicated and time-consuming. Let's hope the SSN has not yet been issued in the mistaken name, that is another kettle of fish to deal with.

Yes, I have. Would like to know if anyone else has had same issue. The process appears quite complicated and would involve DH coming over.
