oduasolja: AND HOW DID U FARE IN UR WAR huh?

WERE U NOT CRUSHED huh

DUMMY.

WAR IS NOT ABOUT PHYSICAL STRENGTH , ITS ABOUT FIRE POWER and fire power alone. if u dont have the firepower , dont talk.

ur stupid son was bragging about having the largest army in africa and boasting about meeting the north in the battle field. when he should have utilized awolowos advice of open and forthright dialogue.

well he got the war he wanted , had his people decimated, then ran off to ivory coast to "seek peace".

oh well.

my point is , you numbnuts should stop blaming awolowo for leading u to war. when its clear that ur boss ojukwu miscalculated.
Dummy, I do not how many times you need to read what Ojukwu said to be able to comprehend. He never said anything about defeating the northern region but defeating Nigeria.

I hope your psychotic head would pardon you to realize eastern region was considered overmatch to northern region and, in fact, western and mid-western region combined. Baring the unconditional assistance Nigeria received from Britain, USSR, Australia, Egypt, United Arad League, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Dahomey, Biafra was set to wipe the floor with Nigeria.

You must be dunce to think Biafra was crushed. I look at it that first round went Nigeria and its allies but second is going to be deferent story. Biafra really gave it the aggressors and was gallantry in defeat.

As far as I am concerned, Awolowo was as infinitesimal factor in the civil war. He played his part as an infantry water boy did too. Talking about infantry water boy, there were many of them during war.

Even next year, Ndigbo are capable of standing up to/against any ethnic group in Nigeria. It has been proven.
As usual you continue with your campaign of revisionism which has lately become your new way of prosecuting the biafran war, which you lost decades ago. Let it go, its over, you lost!!

Your claim that Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni, Ejegam, Efik, Ekoi, Atama and Ijo were part of your decision to secede is preposterous. You ignored the fact that after the coup and counter coup of 1966, as a means of holding the country together in the last result, the country was divided into twelve states from the original four regions in May 1967.

The former Eastern Region under Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu Lt. Col. Ojukwu (RIP) saw the act of the creation of states by decree "without consultation" as the last straw, and declared the Region an independent state of "Biafra". Pray tell, did he consult with the ethnic groups you listed as being part of the old Eastern region?

The Federal Government in Lagos saw this as an act of secession and illegal. Several meetings were held to resolve the issue peacefully without success. To avoid disintegration of the country, the central government was left with only one choice of bringing back the Region to the main fold by force. Hence the civil way. Shikena.

TO KEEP NIGERIA ONE IS A TASK THAT MUST BE DONE cool
I guess you can hear yourself while speaking. The colored is the benign of your political and even military knowledge. The July 29, 1966 coup in Nigeria was unsuccessful because the coup plotters did not have control of all the regions in Nigeria. The military commander in one of the regions bluffed the coup plotters. There was a situation of political and military impasse in the country with eastern region firmly in control of soldiers who were not part of the coup. Do you not think it was foolhardy for a leader of soldiers who planned the unsuccessful coup to assume the position of commander-in-chief when he did not have full control of armed forces in the entire country?

Gowon might have authority to foo1 around with northern, western and mid-western regions but he had no such authority to mess with eastern region. When Gowon and his follow dummies reneged on the Aburi accord and dove into creation states in Nigeria, including the region he has no authority, the government at Enugu called such action childish and ill-informed. Since the creation of sates in the country, Nigeria had become hell hole on earth.

oduasolja: ... Here is the true account of what took place as taken from scripts
of the discussion between Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Ojukwu (the Ikemba). The
discussion was taped by the Ikemba and the recorder was captured after Enugu
fell. (This conversation has been classified since the fall of Biafra)

On Saturday, May 6, 1967, at 5.15 pm, a meeting began to take place, at the
State House, Enugu, between the then Excellency, Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu (the
Ikemba) and a delegation of the National Conciliation Committee (Committee) led
by the most Honorable Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The Committee was represented by
Professor Samuel Aluko, Chief Mariere, Chief J.I. Onyia, while the Eastern
Region was represented by Lt. Col Imo, Lt. Col Effiong, Lt. Col. Kurubo, Mr. C.O
Mojekwu, Mr. N.U. Akpan, Professor Eni Njoku, Dr. Nwakanma Okoro, Dr. P.N.C.
Okigbo, Mr. C.A. Onyegbale and Mr. Ndem with the Ikemba
presiding over the meeting. The names are listed for the purpose
of verification of facts presented herein below with those of them who may still
be alive.....................

Awolowo: The main concern of these delegates is to ensure that Nigeria does not
disintegrate, and I would like to see Nigeria bound
together by any bond because it is better than breaking the
whole place up because each unit will be the loser for it.
The economy of the country is so integrated that it is too late
in the day to try and sever them without risking the death of
one or both of them. So we have come, therefore, to appeal
to you to let Eastern representatives attend the meeting of
the Committee (ON-GOING NATIONAL CONCILIATION MEETING) I do not want to put
myself in a position where I will be treated as an advocate of the Eastern
cause. Let the Eastern delegates go there, make their case and then as a member
of the Committee I will get up and say I support this entirely. If at the
meeting the East and West present what they want for a new Nigeria whether
temporarily or permanently, and the North says "no, we are not going to have
it", I will go out and address a
World Press Conference and send our case to that body and say
this is what we have done and the North has turned it down.
I will then take any step that is necessary to bring into effect
what we want. The North needed to be in a position of being
presented with the United front of the South.

Ikemba: I started off this struggle in July with 120 rifles to defend
the entirety of the East. I took my stand knowing fully well
that by doing so, whilst carving my name in history, I was
signing also my death warrant. But I took it because I believe
that this stand is vital to the survival of the South. I
appealed for settlement quietly because I understood that
this was a naked struggle for power and that the only time
we can sit down and decide the future of Nigeria on basis
of equality will always be equality of arms. Quietly, I
built up. If you do not know it, I am proud, and my officers
are proud, that here in the East we possess the biggest
army in Black Africa. I am no longer speaking as an underdog,
I am speaking from a position of power. The only
way for the South to present a united front is for the South to meet and hammer
out that united front. It is a point which must be
cleared first before proceeding to make a statement of whatever
it is. That is why to my mind, at the present stage of the
crisis the ideal thing is for the Southern people to meet
in any platform and discuss and hammer out any difference
they might have because I will have nothing to do with the North.
Then going further, it would then mean that to do this the South
to meet; because if we wait for their permission, we will
wait for ever. On the specific question of whether there is
a possibility of contract with the North, the answer is at the
battle field.

Awo: I do appreciate the points you have made, especially the suggestion
the South could take the bull by the horns, convene a meeting
of its leaders and work out its salvation. Well, I must say
that a number of factors have been overlooked in this regard.
I would be quite willing to attend any meeting convened by the
leaders of the South in the South, but it must be realized
that we in the West are in a very difficult position. All the
members of the bodyguard of the Military Governor of the Western
Region were Northerners; there were over 36,000 soldiers in
the whole of the West, most of whom were Northerners, and all of
them carry arms..... I led a delegation to Lt. Col. Gowon on the
7th and at that interview I made it clear on behalf of the West
that if the soldiers of Northern origin were not removed from
the West we would not attend any further meetings of the Ad Hoc
Committee. He said he would do something, of course he did not.
We passed our resolution (THAT THE NORTHERN SOLDIERS SHOULD
BE REMOVED FROM THE WEST) and Col. Adebayo did very well and give
us certain Yoruba officers with whom to go and deliver the
petition to Lt. Col. Gowon. I did give him an ultimatum up
to the 15th of May to remove these Northern soldiers from the
West. Of course, he agreed to remove them by the 31st of May
but the time we returned to Ibadan Northern soldiers had taken
up arms and wanted to kill me, to kill Adebayo and all others.
Just now Adebayo does not sleep in his house. Somebody told
me that he has not been sleeping in his house. I know why they
put two policemen with two rifles in front of my house the other
day. Of course, I rang up and said I wanted them removed. There
were policemen in front of Sardauna's house but they did not save
him. The populace, of course, turned against the Northern
soldiers. I don't know why Adebayo should issue the release
that soldiers should not be taunted. But this is the way we
have been doing our quiet fighting. You are remote from the
West; you have advantages which we do not possess. We cannot
rush without rushing to our death at the same time. We are not
cowards in the West but we have to move cautiously, because if
we do not do that you might not have us alive; you would only
have monuments all over the place.
And I may say in this connection of Southern solidarity -- I am
sorry to go into what has happened in the past -- in 1953 there
was an understanding between the banned NCNC and the banned
Action Group; we entered into an agreement, which I hope we will
use sometime, to the effect that if the North remained intransigent
we would declare a Southern Dominion. This was signed by myself
and Zik and I still stand by it; but we prefer that you should
send your delegates to this meeting, so that we should, known
to everyone, enter into negotiations among ourselves and present
a common front to the North. Then nobody can accuse us of
conspiracy or trying to divide the country into two parts. I
want you to look at it from our point of view. If there were
no Northern soldiers in the West the position would be different.
And even if by the time I return home the Northern soldiers have
gone I still do not want to be accused of perfidy. The issue
at hand is not enough for us to say that we do not like the North.
That is a negative approach. I think a positive approach will
be for us to meet. Unity will last only if it is based on common
understanding among us and the basis will start at this meeting.
As I said before, I want you to give me a chance of meeting
your people regularly. Let us reolve our differences and
get what we want and quickly too.

Ikemba: If the reason is to get a platform for a meeting between the
Southern leaders, I agree very much that we should try and find
a platform and here we seem to be presented with a fait accompli.
The Southern leaders are here now, so the main thing is to go
on and discuss.

Awo: It will be something near fraud for us to sit down here and
discuss in terms of the South especially as this delegation was
sent here by a body consisting of the Northern delegation....

Ikemba: Now coming to the wider question of the East attending, if it
is a Reconciliation COmmittee then it must be reconciling warring
parties. A Reconciliation Committee can not have the parties
within, somehow, it does not work, unless, of course, they have
already agreed on the major issues, because reconciliation
is to stay in the middle of the warring parties. And one thing
is so clear in the Nigerian situation: certainly the North
and the East are warring. For any Reconciliation Committee to
do justice to the East, it should not have Easterners and
Northerners
in it. That is one point. How does the Reconciliation Committee
expect us to go to Lagos ? Can you, Sir, imagine Sir Kashim
Ibrahim coming to the East to meet and discuss ? The critical
point of the Eastern stand is that the East cannot go to any place
where there are Northern troops. That tells his own story.
The North has made it abundantly clear that no association
if they are not controlling the central machinery, is acceptable
to them. Even in the face of the resolutions of the South,
the Emirs, feudalist Emirs, had the audacity to dictate to the
South; first that they will not allow the Northern troops to leave
the West until they are satisfied that the West has got sufficient
troops.

Awo: You have talked about Easterners and Northerners trying to go to
the same meeting and bringing about reconciliation because they
are the two warring parties. I do not think the fight is between
the East and the North alone. It affects all other parts of the
country save that there is no quarrel between the East and the
West and Mid-West. The fight involves all of us. The West
at this moment, has its own complaints against the North. The fact
that we went there particularly so soon after my withdrawal
from the Ad Hoc Constitutional Committee, which I observed was
set up by the Federal Government to wage war against the East
instead of trying to put things in check, must assure you that
we are resolved to find a solution to this.
You have also spoken about Lagos or anywhere in the West as
unsafe for the Easterners to hold a meeting. Nobody can
tell when life will be lost, but I think, speaking the minds of
entire people of Western Nigeria and Mid-Western Nigeria, that if
anybody can at this stage take the life of an Ibo man or an
Easterner, or if any outstanding Eastern loses his life by the
act of someone else, the whole of the Western Region and the
Mid-Western Region will take it as the end of Nigeria. I
can give that assurance on behalf of Western Nigeria and Lagos."

The poster of this shamefully concocted crap should be stoned. The weight of iniquity and undeniable idiocy coupled with inherent tribal bigotry had driven some Yoruba maggots to lala land.

Oduasolja, I know you are irreparable numbskull that tend to flaunt ignorance in the public. Please when next you chose to do ignorant dance, have the audience to be completely made up of your fellow peeps.

It is funny you cull a crap from Dawudo.Com, probably concocted by usual suspect named Nowa Omoigui and have the audacity to claim it was from a recorded tape captured by the Nigerian vandals after the fall of Enugu. There was nothing meaningful about Biafra that fell into the hands of the vandals during the civil war.

Are you so dumb you could not discern the so-called National Conciliation Committee (Committee) led Awolowo had no single person from northern region on the team? Yet a malnourished gull such as Oduasolja had the gut to post the junk with a purported team of “National Conciliation Committee”.

For the sake of posterity, I read names such as Effiong, Kurubo, Akpan and Ndem (Ibibio, Ijo, Ibibio and Efik) who allegedly represented eastern region or Biafra. I wonder why loudmouthed nitwits such Oduasolja would insinuate that Biafra was Igbo affairs.

Anyway, this is the fault of Awo and UPE. Some dingbats such as oduasolja, dayokanu, Ileke-IdI and Olaolufred should have been pushing wheelbarrow in Alaba Market instead of knocking away on a keyboard.

This is one of the reasons I hate everything about Nigeria. These paraded bas-tards and known kidnapers should have been dressed in their stupi.d white bubba and white cap, the type they wore in northern region of Nigeria as typical Muslims. Cladding these moronic mooncalves in shirts and pants does not depict them as Islamic indoctrinated foot soldiers of Allah. They were dressed to look like Christians and infidels instead of low lifers out of Almajiri schools that dotted the landscape of northern region of Nigeria.

In some cases, those who parade themselves as lawyers will argue all actions shall not flow from written codes while some cases it must be followed according written codes depending on who contravenes the codes. Every action of people in leadership position in Nigeria must be given the same magisterial scrutiny regardless of the ethnicity of person on the receiving end.

Olaolufred: Dede1,

You are right to corroborate the fact that Biafra was solely an Igbo idea. which the minorities are in mid-west and south-south are not part of. Thinking you can do it all on your own is the major reason the country of biafra died at birth.

If the struggle starts again, it will fail. It will only succeed if the remaining part of the south are fully in support.

A tree does not make a forest. So, diplomacy, politics and inter-cultural lobby are part of the things that is required before pronouncing a secession.

I have close friend from the Igbos. They deserved that I face Issues and do away with muds.
I have tried very hard not to leave any stone unturned when I write about Nigeria/Biafra civil war. In most cases, I chose not to hide behind any nomenclatural crap such as region or political zone to state my facts. Those who tend to hide their ethnically born atrocity or hatred against Biafrans had continued to distort facts about Biafra. Some had idiotically labeled Biafra as an Igbo affair and few had moronically injected the idea of neutrality into the conflict. In each case, the detractors had looked foolish in attempted to skew the facts.

It is unfortunate you have dangerously displayed your ignorance on the subject matter. I can judge your level of knowledge about the ethnicities in Nigeria but must be informed Biafra not inclusive of Yoruba, Edo, Ishan, Urhobo, Ijo (western) and Itsekiri did not make it solely an Igbo affair.

Biafra was purely affair of eastern region and Igbo (midwaetern region). In case you have letdown on retentive memory, eastern region was/is home of many ethnic groups in Nigeria such as Igbo, Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni, Ejegam, Efik, Ekoi, Atama and Ijo (eastern region). It is foolhardy for any person of human intellect to regard Biafra as Igbo affairs when sons and daughters of the ethnicities in eastern region contributed immensely to the actualization of Biafra.

I have looked far and wide; there is no iota of evidence to show I have corroborated your delusional thought that Biafra was solely an Igbo idea in all my posts.

Olaolufred: Thanks for being responsible enough to talk Issues than throw muds.
I actually decided to read about the Civil war Instead of being brainwashed by people's perception.
I made some observations. The Nigerian Army during the Civil war had the support of Cross River (where some Nigerian infantry came through Obudu). Bonny and the whole portharcourt hosted another Amphibious Comandos with all pleasure. Another group came from Edo who felt their land was forcefully occupied by Biafran Soldiers. The Main Group came from Benue/Present Kogi overriding Nsukka within few days of Biafran's declaration.
The Cross river, Portharcourt, Bonny, Edo did not in any way resisted the Nigerian Army.
This Infers that they are not on the side of Biafra.
If they have changed their orientation within the last 45 years, then It is a good thing not necessarily for them, but for the Igbos that would like to court them into Biafra.
But the lobbying must present to them their benefit in the prospective country. And they must be convinced with a convincing plan that they won't be used and dumped.
If that is guaranteed, then their alliance will be a step further in the actualization of an Igbo Nation.
Note also that they can also negotiate for a new name for that prospective country, since they could declined the Igbos forcing down their throat the Name, "Biafra".
With great unity of purpose and wider consultations, It is achievable.
It is due to lack of average intellect known to man that somebody would insinuate Yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Ijo and Ishan joined the Nigerian forces because of offensive front Biafra opened through Midwestern region in order to breach the comfortable feelings enjoyed by the Northern soldiers of Nigerian army in Lagos. As of July 6, 1967, Nigeria’s Area 1 Command had opened a front at Garkem, Obollo Afor and Enugu Ezike axis. At this was unfolding, the Area 2 Command, mostly led by Yoruba, Edo, Ishan, Urhobo, Ijo and Itsekiri had started preparing in Escravos, Midwestern region to launch amphibious attack on Biafra.

It must be recall that Western region and Midwestern region had joined Northern region to plan, prepare and supply men and materials for the invasion of the Eastern region. Around July 1967, some Igbo peeps in Midwestern command intercepted gun-boats and military hardware the governor of Midwestern region, David Ejoor, had procured for Gowon and Nigeria for preparation of invasion of eastern region or Biafra. On July 26,1967, Benjamin Adekunle, a Yoruba, led 3MCDO, which had been training in Escravos, Midwestern region launched an amphibious attack on Biafra and captured Ubani (Bonny).

Prompted by these unwarranted and unprovoked military attacks on eastern region by the combined efforts and forces of Northern, Western and Midwestern regions, Biafra had to launch its offensive through Midwestern region with hope to dislodge soldiers of Northern region from Lagos on August 8, 1967. Any moronic foo1 who kept regurgitating the falsehood such as Yoruba, Edo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijo and Ishan joined Nigerian side because of Biafra’s offensive through Midwestern region fed to him/her by those who tried to deny their responsibilities during the war has irreparable deficiency.

I don't have the link to the article I read it in anymore but I definitely remember reading about that before. It is not a new idea since it was discussed many decades ago, and anyway Fashola was asking for state police months before this thread by ndu chucks. Ndu chucks probably came across Fashola's recent mention of an old idea online, it sank somewhere into the depths of his mind, he forgot about it and then later it manifested again in this thread.

I refuse to give Ndu chuks credit for any political innovation when such ideas have been around for decades and when it has been discussed months ago on this forum and elsewhere. Also, ndu chucks is just too sinister for me to give him credit for anything anyway.

As for the bight stuff, I said it before, that was for his own amusement. He knows the implications of what he's saying and that's exactly why he made it a point to mention Awolowo specifically. I'm also 100% sure that he posted the map for his own amusement at the fallout that would ensue.
The character named ndu_chucks has been throwing curved balls the past few days. I do not know what to believe of the chap anymore. There is no doubt he or she knew that irascible government of Nigeria changed Bight of Biafra to Bight of Bonny. What instigated his or her disingenuous approach to such subject matter is open for discussion. It could be a matter of empty barrel.

As for regional police, ndu_chucks could be miserably behind the curve with regard to history. I guess nd did not know the cradle of Mobile Police in Nigeria’s historical life.

The war was all about two mens ego, Gowan and Ojuwku. But Rather unfortunately millions had to die because of this power struggle. They say when two Elephants fight it`s the grass that suffers.
I believe you are insinuating after Gowon and Ojukwu, Nigeria ceased to produce egocentric individuals. The Nigeria/Biafra civil war and its outcome undoubtedly changed the balance of all things in Nigeria.

If you were not dangerously disingenuous with your childish post, you would have inquired what factors contributed to the coups. I guess based on your intellect, there could not have been a civil war without fear of Igbo domination which led actions that instigated the coups. And in your wildest of imagination, Nigeria was unfortunate to produce personalities such as Gowon and Ojukwu whose egos ran amok.

The socio-politico-economic factors in Nigeria mostly instigated by the fear of Igbo domination caused certain governments to embark on wanton nepotism, acts of political intolerance and open display of ethnical insensitivity which led to the first coup.

Before and during the war, there was no single piece of real estate belonging to minority in eastern region that was forcefully or unpersuasively appropriated to Igbo.

Rather in 1976, Nigerian tyrannical regime appropriated all crude oil producing areas in Igbo land to the minorities. Everybody knows the abandon property policy which was designed for Port Harcourt but not other cities in Nigeria.

I am very happy to see Nigeria go useless in every phase of human endeavor but not happy with the slow pace. The relentless call for Republic of Igbo land does not seem to come from people who want to do anything with minorities or their useless land.

Let me borrow your ill-formed phrase, “so bleep u” for display of ignorance.

errr, I believe the hatred of the Ibo's started when soldiers of eastern origin killed leaders from every region except theirs in a bloody coup not intimidation or domination as you are trying to spin it here.

As for the fear, I think that has to do with the number of vices attributed to people from that tribe.
Are you also oblivious to the statements allegedly made by SL Akintola and Ahmadu Bello?

Bros, eastern region led every region in Nigeria in number of civil servants before 1967. It was the sheer number of Ndigbo in government payroll and dominance in private sectors that instigated the hatred and mythical fear of Igbo domination which led to civil war of 1967.

For God's sake what has yoruba girls got to do with a discussion about Awo? Again proving my point that you have serious issues.
You are the person who got twisted out of human form about Nidgbo and have the audacity to put your prejudicial comments against them in prints by stating the specialties of Ndigbo in a manner no less than denigration.

The Yorubas, our kith and kin, in Kogi and Kwara States are in border frontiers and politically controversial territories zoned into the North Region. Given the current political awareness and developments in the country, particularly in the possibility of a collapse and dissolution of the country, the leaders and sons of Kwara and Kogi States have spoken! In tandem with a dissolution of Nigeria they are resolved to equally dissolve their political identity with the North and return home to the Yoruba Commonwealth.

We support their choice and we welcome their wisdom. We Yorubas must exhibit this support in action and we do so by acknowledging and including Kwara and Kogi West whenever we discuss the Western States, Region and the Yoruba Commonwealth in general.

Your comments are welcome. . . .
Negro, please remove Kwara State and West of Kogi State from your daydream of commonwealth nation. Dr. Junaid Mohammed had publicly claimed them for the Islamic Republic and I know your peeps can not fight. I really want disintegration of Nigeria in order to see if you can fight the way your mouth runs. grin grin grin

Apart from selling spare parts, importing knock off products, armed robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings and drug trafficking in what way has the eastern region surpassed the west?

Are you talking about the same religion of the Saudis, Jordanians, Omanis, Qataris, Emiratis, Malaysians and Indonesians? How come its a problem here and not there? If truly it is, then Christianity is also the reason why people like Ibori steal N4tr?
After reading your post, I concluded you are a lazy bigot. If eastern region had surpassed western region in the following fields such as selling spare parts, importing knock off products, armed robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings and drug trafficking, the human endeavors I alluded in my post is completed.

Did you also expect eastern region to take your ugly girls before you realize how far back you lacked? Eastern region could want few things from western region but your scared-faced-girls are certainly not one of them. grin grin

There are different approaches to religious doctrines. I guess the northern region of Nigeria adopted the backward phase of Islam.

Fela's mother was credited to have being the first woman to drive a car. Whether she drove it succesfully/well does not suffice.
This statement is even debatable too because historians and news writers of the era in question felt Southern Protectorate and Nigeria started and ended in Lagos. I believe that Margaret Ekpo may have something to say about this assumption too.

You appear to have the inability to comprehend simple English in the process. I repeat, in July 1958 RFK, Femi's father, successfully moved the motion for Nigeria's independence in the Federal House of Assembly. Enahoro's motion which was made in 1953 along with several others before then, were never accepted in the House of Assembly. Enahoro's motion failed woefully, hence the credit goes to the elder Fani-Kayode.

Err, What was the name of Louis Mbanefo's law firm which you claim was opened in 1937? These lies will get you nowhere. There was no indigenous law firm in Nigeria until 1948! Mbanefo worked for the colonialists who eventually made him a judge.

I noticed that you are now soft pedaling by qualifying your "backstabbing" label with the word "political". I will not try to defend Fani-Kayode senior, but I maintain that Femi Fani-Kayode, is not in the same league as the RFK. Femi most probably belongs in jail.
I guess we are individuals and our ways of staking up accomplishments defer from one another. Whether it was an attempt, failed attempt or successful attempt, the credit of the first move of motion for Nigeria’s independence goes to Anthony Enahoro.

A man who has established a law office in Onitsha and practiced law in 1937 when Remi Fani-koyade was still in law school seemed to you he did so out of mechanic workshop. Nigerians are blinded by irresponsible form of ethnicity.

As matter of fact Rami Fani-Kayode had to team up with Bode Thomas and Fredrick Rotomi Willams in one room law office in order to have access to law books. Maybe the law firms opened by men such Eric Moore and another of Williams were regarded as in Sierra Leone.

God bless you for this. i wonder why someone will say that Remi Fani-Kayoe moved the motion for independence when popular knowledge dictates that it was Sir Anthony Enahoro that first moved the motion is 1953. I also agree with you on the fact that many historians believe that Nigeria starts and ends in Lagos. That's ignorant if you ask me.
It is very worrisome to watch indeed. The unmitigated spread of ignorance knowingly or unknowingly in order to win cheap ethnical and political points in Nigeria by well organized bodies such as western regional publication of 1967 and many obscure media sources tends to boost my energy in calling for disintegration of Nigeria.

Before anyone accuses me of casting aspersions on the respected Enahoro do note he and Ojukwu attained the same level and quality of education.
I am certain of one thing : the Man died regretting the part he played in the civil war after seeing what his pay masters of the time turned his Beloved Nigeria into in the decades that followed especially with the marginalization of the south/south south east from the influencing areas of the countries economy the wealth of which was sourced from his area and neighboring territories .
Anthony Enahoro had a choice but chose to play stupidity as indicated in the post. When he was confronted in Washington, DC with the same speeches while he was on exile and seemingly a member of NEDECO or whatever it was called or known, the old man wept and begged every Igbo son in the hall at Howard University to forgive him.

EMINENT Nigerians yesterday lamented the non-sustenance of the leadership qualities of late Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying that the north would not have constitued itself as the clog in the wheel of development and unity of the country had Awolowo’s policies been sustained.

They spoke in Lagos at the 2012 Obafemi Awolowo Annual Lecture, convened by Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, OAF.

Those who attended the event from across the six geo-political zones included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, Emir of Zauazau Alhaji Shehu Idris, Obi of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Suru Gambari, King Edmund Daukoru Amyanabo on Nembe, King Dandeson Douglas, Jaja Amyanabo of Opobo, King Mujakpero Orodje of Okpe,

They also included former governors of Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo and Kaduna States, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Olusegun Osoba,Niyi Adebayo, Gbenga Daniel, and Alhaji Balarebe Musa as well as Prof Ben Nwabueze, Justice Modibo Alfa Belgore, Justice Mohammedu Uwais, Sen Olorunnimbe Mamora, Sen Anthony Adefuye, Chief Ebeneze Babatope, Sen Daisy Danjuma, Sen Jubril Aminu, Alhaji Musilui Smith, Chief Fredrick Fasheun, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Gen. Alani Akinrinade, among others.

Speaking at the forum which was titled; Power Politics or Welfare Politics; Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the History of African Nationalist Political Thought, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, who chaired the occasion said that Nigeria lost the opportunity of having Awolowo as its president, noting that Awolowo was a credible leader.

Musa said, “Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo is the most qualitatively, outstanding, and memorable legend of Nigerian politics and governance since the 1940s. He is the one whose role in politics and governance can still be a reliable guide for any first-time President of Nigeria even though Nigeria ‘lost the opportunity of having Chief Awolowo as its National President.

North in the way of peace —Musa

“He knew how to be relevant both in government and in opposition. When he ceased to be the Premier of the old Western Region, he became a credible and dependable opposition leader. If his policy of free, qualitative, and functional education, for instance, had been implemented and sustained throughout Nigeria, the 40 -year gap in educational development between the northern and the southern parts, which inevitably makes the North stand more in the way of peace and national unity, would have been avoided; and the result of higher educational advancement would not have been almost absent in Nigeria.

“For the 1983 Presidential Election, even the arch opponents of Chief AwoIowo, the semi-feudal and conservative Northern oligarchy or Kaduna Mafia, as represented by the political group of late Shehu Musa Yar’aduwa, preferred him and went into a principled electoral alliance with the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, the political party he led. However, Nigerians are still hoping for Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s equivalent to emerge.”
Musa’s views were re-echoed by other speakers who called for late Awolowo’s style of leadership in the country. Speaking on the topic of the lecture, the Guest Speaker, Prof. Toyin Falola admonished Nigerian leaders to emulate Awolowo’s prescription for the implementation of welfare politics.

His words: “The most imoportant lesson to take away from Awolowo’s work is his prescription for the implementation of wlafare politics. His legacy to Nigeria , and indeed the world, is the proposal of critical conceptions that must be infused into political leadership.

“He argued that leadership must be grounded in ethics, morallity of spending resources more carefully without curruption and with compassion for people. Leadership must respect the rule of law and human rights and cannot be based on violence.”

Absence of transpernt government——Tinubu

Similarly, former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State regrreted that, “Awolowo’s leadership qualities are not visible today in gorvernance. All his priorities like rural intergration, welfare, priority of education are lacking. We are gradually moving away from the people. What is the menaing of governance if there is no welfare, development, transperency and accountability.’’

Earlier, the Executive Director of OBF, Dr. Olatokunbo Dosumu-Awolowo had there was need to build bridges of understanding across the country to ensure unity in Nigeria.

She said, “This gathering says that inspite of current, seeming evidence to the contrary, there is still an overwhelming desire across the land to build bridges of understanding in order to remain brothers and sisters domicled in one united indivisble Nigeria and that the prospects for consensus building on cvritical national issues are not necessarily far-fetched.

“The presence of some of the most eminent royal fathers across Nigeria as well as this sizeable and high calibre audience, drawn from all sectors of the Nigerian society, leaves me virtually speechless, But it speaks eloquently to the fact that 25 years after his transition, Cheif Awolowo’s trailblazing leadership keeps being aknowledged and celebrated.’’

Political elites from northern region are masters of deceptive political crafts. Alhaji Balarebe Musa should be ashamed of himself for publicly spewing the above crap. The Awolowo’s junk but free education gimmick never saw eastern region of Nigeria. Yet by 1960, arguably eastern region had equaled or surpassed western region in every human endeavor. This same plank of argument brought us quota system and northern region still count peanuts as school leavers. Every government of Nigeria headed by northerner since Nigeria’s independence had wheeled every bit of Nigeria’s economic infrastructures, military depots, businesses and educational apparatus to northern region of Nigeria. The mere backward appearance and assumed problem of northern region is rooted in Islamic religion, culture and tradition.

These sound political backstabbing schemes to me.

Please quit Wiki as your go-to last resort because it is not helping your public image even as an intellectual feather weight. Chief Remi Fani-Koyade was a very brilliant man. But he was still in law school when Louis Mbanefo opened his law firm in Onitsha in 1937.

Should I also remind you that Anthony Enahoro had moved motion for independence in 1953? So Remi Fani-Kayode’s 1958 motion was a backbencher as far as I am concerned.

It is very funny most lazy historians and writers of colonial era, mainly Europeans and returnees, thought southern protectorate and later Nigeria started and ended in Lagos. I urge you to work very hard to expel such deceptive indoctrination form your system.
