LordReed:
I included a figure to give a visual aid to point out how insignificant such a duration would be against what an eternity would be.

Ordinary sleep deprivation plays havoc with our psyches talk more about enduring something with no end in sight.

I am not convinced our consciousness survives even if I agree that our energies gets recycled into the universe. I think that recycle process actually shows there is no consciousness after death since energy carries no such traits.
Consciousness is still a very mysterious thing about which we understand little. I would hesitate to conclude definitely on what energies are conscious and what arent . Some even look at the Earth itself as a living thing and when one sees the life that sprouts from it, it is hard to argue that it is not living, and some thereon say it is also conscious.

I do not as yet make these conclusions myself but suffice to say that I can respect the fact that there are likely different types of consciousness we dont understand as yet.

Jesus Christ is God.
Are you sure Tinubu is not the third member of the Holy Trinity and therefore God?

Yes, it was the best decision to take politically. i see you didn't find a better solution. As for legality, we'll wait for the judiciary's take. The matter is in court, last i heard. But the executive and legislative didn't see anything wrong with it.
Please tell me, is there any difference between Tinubu and Jesus Christ in your view?

LordReed:
The human mind cannot properly process what an eternity actually means. Our minds have been formed by our inevitable mortality. This idea of living forever is a fantasy than we have dabbled with because it sounds great but doesn't actually tackle how much such a thing will impact our psyches.
We cant even comprehend the concept. Even if you try to think about it, you will find yourself stumped. That shows our clear limitation.

Just image if every single human being who has ever lived was in this so called heaven and you met 1 new person every 100 years, by the time you have met every single person once you still won't have entered 0.00000000000000001% of eternity.
You cant even allocate anything like a fraction or percentage to it. You can only do that to a finite or specified quantity.

I think the whole concept is just wishful thinking from a set of beings that have always despaired about death. The concept negates death yet has no real substance behind it.
Well said.

Make peace with your mortality, your death will be final.
Nonetheless the nature of our consciousness strongly suggests that it is merely encased in this body and might escape it at death.
One thing that may suggest a sort of eternity for us though, is the fact that energy can neither be created nor destroyed - it only changes form - the first law of thermodynamics.

Literature › Re: Happy 91st Birthday To Wole Soyinka by DeepSight(m): 11:37am On Jul 13, 2025
Jakumo:
Nigeria's fearless troubadour, wordsmith extraordinaire and poet laureate, Wole "Kongi" Soyinka, has at 91 years young, aged like the best of the fine wines he savors when rare introspective opportunity arises to relax and reflect over his life of epic accomplishment as a writer of unassailable social conscience.

From the hinterland of Mother Africa's timeless landscape, this fellow hunter of bush-fowl and grasscutters raises aloft his blunderbuss in salutation to our mythical mentor and fearless literary warrior, who, even in the winter years of his fabled life, walks with the feline athletic grace of a man decades his junior, while wielding a pen with the same sharp wit and timeless philosophical insight that will inspire generations of aspiring writers scattered across the surface of this spinning blue dot amid the cosmos called Planet Earth.

Happy birthday sir, and may there come to follow countless more celebrations of your legacy that will echo long after every reader of these words has joined their ancestors amid the swirling mists of time that enshroud the winding road of life that lays ahead, as yet uncharted.
A truly great man, whose literary prowess was crowned by his activism - it thus being no surprise that he is cousins with Fela and Beko Kuti - it would seem to run in the family.

I sadly note however that in his latter years his integrity has been slightly besmirched by his close association with Bola Tinubu and refusal to speak truth to power concerning him.

Oga, there is politics and there is law. If you want to argue that politically it was a good decision, that is a different discussion. As far as law is concerned, it was and remains completely unconstitutional and illegal.

They dont do that. What some tend to do is categorize everyone across the River Niger as Igbo.

To understand the mentality of Asaba People and by extension Anioma people, read this piece about the history of Asaba from Asaba National Association - https://asabausa.com/about-asaba/

Read the screenshot to understand the mindset of Asaba People in relation to the core igbos.

My wife actually told me that during her stay in Asaba with her cousins, they (the youths) told her thar if the IPOB and the igbos disturb them too much about co-opting them into Biafra or Igbo state, they would blow up the bridge, which is the thing connecting them with Igbo mainland.
Interesting! Thank you.

That's the point I am trying to make to Igbo nationalists. That a people speak Igbo does not necessarily mean they must be tethered to other igbo speaking people in a political unit. Language is not the only consideration for creating geopolitical political units, other considerations such as history, trade, geographical landmarks, cultural affiliations, etc, are equally as important.

I know for a fact thar majority of Anioma people will prefer to remain with the South South than join the south east in a political affiliation. My wife is both from Imo and Anioma (Asaba). The was in asaba last month visiting her maternal family. She experienced the hostility by Asaba people towards core igbos in trying to drag them by force into the south east political issues.
Wow.

These people had never and I repeat NEVER complained of being separated from their Igbo kith and kin, they were proud westerners under Awolowo, they were proud mid-westerners, they proudly shouted "up Bendel" under Bendel State. Till date they are very happy to still be political brothers with other tribes in Delta State and by extension happy to be termed South South along with other niger Delta tribes. That you guys from core Igbo states are desperately trying to force them to abandon over a century of political affiliation and cajole them into yours will certainly be met with resistance. That's why IPOB is not popular in Asaba, Ukwani, Ikwerre, and other non core Igbo speaking people.

Language had never been the main determinant of political units throughout history. There are many German speakers in Switzerland, Austria and even Belgium. That doesn't mean Germany must claim those people.
They did claim Austria and integrate it into Germany during the time of the Nazis though, and in fact Hitler was Austrian.
Political or national lines and boundaries are not as original and authentic as ethnic lines and in truth the "nation" and people known as Germany and Germans extend beyond todays political boundaries of the Federal Republic of Germany, just as the Hausa and Fulani extend all across West Africa and just as the Bantu extend across East Africa.

I will never believe Shettima did not know the direct implication of his words. All these games being played by trying to distinguish removal from suspension are nothing but dishonest gymnastics. He knew what he said and implied, as far as I am concerned, this statement is merely political gamesmanship probably to cool things down.

My friend, who do you think you're trying to confuse?? You have decided everything Jesus says is to be strictly construed - no explanation, no addition, no subtraction.
YET you leave something he said that actually makes NO sense and needs explanation, and instead trying to explain something that needs no explanation!

What the heck do you need to to explain in this:

John 14:9
New International Version
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
His explanations suffice.
I am now too afraid of you to bother explaining anything too much myself.

Clean. I don't even understand what all these confusion in Christianity means. With all these glaring truths they will still be arguing!
Its painfully tiresome. The man made it abundantly clear. When he says that he wants us to be one in the same same way he is one with his father.

Does that mean that he wanted Peter to be James or John to be Matthew?

Very obvious he is talking about unity, and not being the same person.
