Besides if these cosmic overlords wanted to farm us for energy why the rigmarole? We farm other animals for energy and we don't do it with any kind of subterfuge.

The pig, the sheep, even the chicken that we farm and care for, feeding them, housing them, even giving them medical care and protecting them from predators will have no imagination that we do all this to consume them or convert them into wool or belts. If they knew, would they call all our behaviour subterfuge? They can no more understand us than we can understand any being grooming us in any similar way.

PS: Is it subterfuge when farmers try to calm a cow before it is killed knowing well that the meat tastes better when the animal is not alarmed? Would it be subterfuge if gods seek to keep us in ignorant peace for similar reasons?
