No thanks. You may or may not have noticed, but I no longer have the time or aptitude to play ten - ten with the likes of you, wiegraf, JC, AIO and Logicboy anymore - and I promised I wouldn't. You can all journey merrily into your subjectivist illusory land with your vapid, empty, pedestrian, and unserious and shallow minds. Enjoy. |
texanomaly: I'm so sorry for your loss DS. *hugs*Many thanks my darling. I hope you are well. |
plaetton: YE Are Gods, All Of You, All 100 Trillion Of You. Lol,With profound apologies and deep respect, I doubt I have ever read this much sttupidity in my life. Carry on! It will get you every where. After all its just mindless chemical reactions in ya head abi. That absolves you of everything as well. You are therefore free. |
I wrote this back in January when I lost a beloved cousin of mine, however since Nairaland was fire-bombed some months ago the thread appears lost. I decided to re-post it here and now for the simple reason that I just lost another beloved person. The shock still remains the same, but I believe that the thoughts here are only as pertinent as ever and I would like to share the same thoughts again and hope you - one and all - remember again the brevity and meaning of your lives and the purpose thereto. --------------------------------------------- This morning I took time off work to attend the Funeral Service of a cousin of mine who passed away recently and very sadly at the early age of 47 years. "Cuz" was very special and very dear to the whole family, a generous, active, robust woman full of life and warmth and love and losing her has been nothing short of a bolt of lightning to our collective reality. We all know that one day we must perforce die: we have known this ever since we set foot in this world, and, as the old saying even goes, nothing is certain in life other than death and-taxes. Nevertheless we live our lives in a bubble of the present which often blinds us to the stark realities and truths of this world, this time, this place in which we live, and what exactly we are doing here as a race of beings who come and go. Indeed, I would go so far as to say again what I have always said: namely that life is deeply strange: and the strangeness of life is so great that had we not developed customs and legends, and history and stories explaining the great strangeness of life, we really would be all stark raving mad shrieking in the streets wondering what exactly we are doing in this very strange temporary world. For, frankly, one of the few things that can help one withstand the spectre of death: particularly the spectre of the death of a very close and intensely loved one who is a part of one's everyday life - is the recollection that death has been certain from the moment of birth. This sort of helps us to stay "sane" about it - even when it is a truly frightening occurrence which tells deep and profound truths about the nature of our beings, our existence. I am motivated to write this because, having had the powerful life-experience of today, of seeing my once lively bubbly cousin lying-in-state - motionless and frozen in death's cold embrace, It struck me again just how precious every passing moment of life is - and I dwelt again on the purpose of life. Let me say straight away that any person who has ever lost a close loved one to death, and has had the chance to gaze upon the remains of that loved one, will know without any need for questions, argument or discussion, that that corpse that one stares upon, is not the person himself or herself: that it is a casing of sorts, which embodied that person while here on Earth. This is not something for debate: it is a powerful life-experience which people go through: and when it happens, you see it and you know. I first had this experience at the age of 15 when I went to the mortuary to see my father's dead body. I knew instantly that what I stared at was not my father. It was a casing. This tells us that at death, the real being departs to a dimension and realm of its consistency whilst the material body dissolves into the material as well. Now I am raising this because I really wonder how many of us take seriously the question of the fact that one day, we MUST die? What do we make of our lives, what do they mean to us? What purpose and meaningfulness do our lives have? Do we make any preparation for that here-after, the belief in which many of us profess - even ardently - but what does it really mean to us? Is it genuinely alive and burning in our hearts as our sure and genuine inevitable reality? My mind was drawn to all the empty, wasteful, boastful and shamefully worthless debates that one has often been neck deep in, regarding existential, religious and spiritual matters. And many other such contentions with people who will argue ardently against the existence of God and all spirituality, for example. Which of these people spare a genuine thought for their mortality and what does it mean to them? Is it not the case that what happens almost all of the time is simply one person shouting meaningless words past another in a bid to show the superiority of his or her doctrine or logic or even intellect? Please do not think I spare myself in this - I have been multiply guilty of such nonsensical grandstanding over empty issues myself. We have all been guilty of trying to argue this or that in a bid to exercise our intellect. The same intellect the material functions of which MUST per force rot in a grave morbidly, in the not too distant future for one and all of us? The grave truth about this life and this world is that what we need to focus on is the quality and meaningfulness of our spiritual experience in this world: and with our best and most positive energies run our worthy race and breast the tape when the time comes with the assurance that we have given the quality, depth, love and positive passion to our race in this world with goodwill to all mankind and beyond. Standing in the church today - in what had become a life-event bequeathing startling clarity to me on the nature of this world and this life - I could effectively see that we were all standing in God's waiting room, where the time had come to send a soul back to God. I could clearly see that this world is temporary - and that the real "person" proceeds to the permanent non-material realm. I could clearly see that that realm is much much more real than this one: that we are stuck for a time in what is for all intents a "virtual reality" into which we enter and we exit: to meet the permanent reality that lies beyond. I could see that we are trainees in God's incubator of consciousness, transiting from one level to another in ever expanding consciousness and ever more aware life, towards the "mighty onwards" of the Eternal Maker. And so for this reason I wish to appeal to everyone today to "wake up" - to come to "recognition of reality and truth" and see the world really for the temporary school it is. Let us place genuine value on our lives and urge one another to achieve the deep lessons which are intended life experiences, to mark our souls with the grooves of the learning for which this life is meant, and thereby be found to have passed our exams when the time comes calling, and the implacable judges sit waiting for our souls. I speak to one: and I speak to all. These are our lives: let us hold them - and live them - with the reverence they deserve. Let us dedicate ourselves to things that will edify and improve us; that will encourage and uplift us, that will educate and galvanize us - to work together to put genuine spiritual meaning in our lives and thereby imbue our lives with rich purpose and passion as we march forward in time, on this watered blue rock, circling a red star in the vastness of this universe, and the enigmatic echo of passing, or still time. May the ONE GOD bless you and yours, now and always. --------------------------------------------------------- Please atheists, deists, crossbearers, agnostics, Christians, Musilims, traditionalists, satanists, scientologists, free-thinkers - what ever you may call yourself - or whether you even call yourself anything at all - Feel free to argue all day - but just remember that there must be a day that will come in your life where there will be no argument to be made. Shalom. RIP, my friend and brother. |
It is refreshing to read the OP because it is frankly nauseating to see the way atheistic fanatics these days make it appear than every one who believe in God or has a religion is an ediot. The fact is that the vast majority of all learning in history has been propounded by religious people. |
Martian: Some religious or so called "spiritual" people are wont to cite the "NDE" of someone of their religious persuasion as "evidence" for souls, the afterlife and the overall veracity of their religious claims.Your st.upidity is simply poetic. |
Empiree: Okay now guys. I wont like to derail your thread but let me just input this before I commot. So, atheism simply means disbelieve in existence of God or deity according to mazaje and probably that's official definition of it. Good enough.Screaming "Oh God" is actually a mere exclamation and means nothing. People who do not believe in Christ use the phrase "Jesus Christ!" as an exclamation all the time. As such your argument does not stand. However if you simply mean to indicate that in the most extreme of circumstances, supposed atheists will turn to God, then yes, perhaps, for some supposed atheists, you have a point. |
Anony. Been a while. A few questions. 1. Do you regard it as sinful to abort a pregnancy that arose from a father raping his daughter? 2. Or an armed robber or serial killer raping a strange woman? 3. Do you think that the length of the pregnancy - that is - the extent of development is relevant? In other words if conception has taken place and what exists is still a developing cell - just within a few days of conception, do you see abortion of such as the same as aborting a fully developed fetus in the third trimester? 4. Do you acknowledge that there are pregnancies that endanger the life of the mother? If so, if a choice PER FORCE must be made, do you think an abortion of the pregnancy in such a situation is immoral? Many thanks. |
mazaje: Materialist, spiritualist and all these labels do not really mean much to me. . .Fair enough. I just follow where the reasonable and objective evidence leads. . . .Is it reasonable to say, for example, that the organs of your body: 1. Combine to form your mind and experience of life or 2. Are tools for your mind and experience of life The purpose of my life to me is what i make of it,Fair enough. i do not believe my life has an external purpose from any god. . . .Do you really pause to contemplate this carefully? Am just lucky to be alive, many others were born and died out shortly afterwards, some as toddlers, others as young kids, many others as teenagers. . .Fair enough. But neither here nor there. Not all must grow old. What do you think is the purpose of the human life?. . .The delivery of the creative spirit and governance of the mind of God to the material plane. Do you believe in a personal god?. . .I will have to ask you first if you believe that a mind must be personal. And if so, if it must be encapsulated in a physical body. Thank you. It is refreshing to read and talk to one atheist such as yourself who is not wasted in the doldrums of petty back-lashing and meaningless futility and self contradiction. |
Hahahahahaha. Interesting topic. There are different ways to see the crabs issue. 1. We are all in a mess. Why are you trying to leave us here in this mess? No way. Come back down here and stay with us, you selfish dolt. 2. We are all in a mess. We see you trying to climb out of this mess. We jump onto your coat tails so we can all go together. We are to heavy on your coat tails and so you fall back into the mess. 3. We are all in a mess. I see you climbing out of the mess. Wow. I should observe you and how you did it. If you could do it, I could do it too. Pick your choice. |
Kay17: The oneness of infinity is flirtatious and absolutely vague and ambiguous. We have to be pardoned for having zero ideas about it.Don't worry you will have a tomorrow. Sadly, it will be filled with things that ancient men already knew. |
mazaje: I like your mind to be candid, its intelligent and I think something odd is happening to it. It has evolved so much and its just getting kind of weird . .Anyway that's a discussion for another day. . . .Ah thanks. But you know what? When you realise the transient nature of your life and truly get it.... things will get weirder. Weirder for materialists but more natural for spiritualists. Do you remember I once opened a thread asking you the purpose of your life? Do you have any different thoughts on it now? Have you evolved in your thinking too? |
PastorAIO: The guy is just making things up as he goes along, surely that should be obvious by now. Now he wants to contend that everything is mind when he ardently argued against my saying that everything is consciousness. After he made a distinction between 'Being' as some kind of abstract something different from the brain. Please let's dismiss the guy and turn to more interesting discussions like the actual topic of this thread.Well I already said that I am tired of your lack of insight or intelligence and thus will not waste much time on it. I only bother to respond to this because of your comment here attempting to corelate my statement on mind to your statement on consciousness. They are different statements. You said that even stones are conscious. I do not agree with that. When I say that everything is mind i mean that mind creates everything. As a slight example I could say that my mind has imaginations. I am conscious of those imaginations but it is a different thing to suggest that those imaginations are self conscious. There is an ocean of thought and a world of differences in this statement above I just made, but what's the point discussing it with you. You are a person who says that we cannot know that anything outside ourselves exist. I have strong reasons to disagree with that but again why should I argue against a person who might not exist. You simply lack the depth I previously thought you did as do those unintelligent weasels who concur with your self contradiction. I am a self admitted mad man but you are the mad man who they will wonder how they never knew was mad. Good night. |
mazaje: Your definition of god seems to be changing regularly over time..No. It's all the same. Someone can describe me as homo sapiens. He will be correct. He can also describe me as a person. He will still be correct. He can later comment that I am one eccentric legal adviser of X company. He will still be correct. He can also describe me as an alcoholic. He will yet still be correct. In all of these descriptions he will be referring consistently and without change of idea, to who I am. And so the fact that I have described God in many ways for your questions does not mean that I am telling you about a different conception of God. I have variously said that God is the ONE and INFINITE (my term oneness of infinity which seems to drive you people to delirium or mirth...forgetting that all ancient creeds assert same albeit in their own words). I have called God the sum of self existent laws. This remains true. I have called God the uncaused cause. Still true. I have called God THE transcendent mind. It is true still. One day you will realize that all that exists is MIND. WE are little orbs of mind. GOD is the original and master mind. .God is now the original mind?. . .Yes. And always has been. Always will be. That is an abstract. . .I would say yes and no. Yes to the extent that all realities and planes above and beyond us are indeed abstract. No to the extent that all of these still permeate our existence in every minute detail. Every passing second and every passing thought is evidence of GOD. |
Martian:Of course such simple analogies will fly over the head of twerpish dolts such as you since it is of course possible for a white blood cell to evolve up to the point that they fly out of the human body in a spaceship and observe the whole human being. |
mazaje: So this are your reasons why oneness of infinity should remain a mystery?. . .I am not giving you a reason. I am saying to you that things transcending ones level will be mysteries to one. As such the mere fact that such are mysterious is not by itself an argument for their non existence. Even this very universe in which we live contains many such unprobed mysteries. If god is a mystery then how did YOU get to know about it?. . .All higher sentient beings cognise it. But since such an answer will be useless to willfully blind people such as you, let me add that we also have a level of an inquiring mind that easily discerns it. Not just by intuition or any high philosophy but even just by pedestrian commonsense. And what exactly do you mean by god?. . . .I am just tired of this your abstract god concept and idea that you alone seem to understand. . . .Just spell it out in very clear terms what is god?. . .What does it want and why did it create humans, assuming your god exist and it created humans. . .There is nothing overly abstract there. We are all mind and mind is over matter. It is what spawns even matter. Even you do it every day without knowing it. God is simply the original mind. |
mazaje: why should god be a mystery?Perhaps because you are an ant and God is the Planet Pluto? Or perhaps because you are a white blood cell and God is a human being? Or perhaps because you are a grain of sand and God is the Earth? Or perhaps because you are a drop of water and God is the Ocean? You see, it makes no sense for minuscule beings such as ourselves to assert that things bigger than our perceptive capacity, by that reason alone, CANNOT exist. |
plaetton: No sire,Of course this is just the same way any mystery outside ones perception must not exist. For an ant, the Planet Pluto cannot and should not exist. |
plaetton: If god exists, then god could not and should never have been a mysteryWhat a statement. So anything that exists could and should never have been a mystery. You guys sha. Enjoy. |
One really has to be careful and thoughtful about social media. |
TheBigUrban2: I see. You want to be antagonistic and dull at the same time.Lol @ the bold. You really must think I am a 5 year old or something. What I found wise there was simply the age-old wisdom of listening to the message and not the messenger. If you were a keen thinker rather than a petty one, you would have spotted a seemingly valid contradiction in my saying so, with an earlier comment I made here. But don't worry your head; it is of no consequence whatsoever. |
InesQor: @DeepSight: Oga we no dey see ya brake lights on NL again. Hope you're good. I just noticed your handle has gotten rid of the space in between, ever since the NL reboot. At first I thought it was another account or something.Na wah, the thing just changed like that o, every few times I created a special handle to make posts when banned such as (Deep_Sight, DeepSight and Depardo). However the nuclearbomb that was dropped on nairaland somehow left me with only DeepSight but strangely combined the posts, although all posts from January were lost. How have you been? |
Facebook was a great tool. Sadly, it no longer is and it will not be anymore. Among my peers, I was the first person to create a Facebook profile back in 2007 when social media just gained ground. I was able to use Facebook to connect with some of my long lost peers - friends, relatives, classmates. The power of Facebook at that time was to find those whom you lost contact. It was a great tool, and because of it I was able to organize many re-unions and gatherings. I used it daily, hourly, frequently. Would you like to participate in psychological experiments without your consent? Slowly, though, Facebook changes its purpose to me. People started sharing enormous amount of pictures - monthly baby pictures, exotic vacation spots, expensive stuff they purchased, celebs they met. It becomes a giant garbage bin with information I have no interest in or even knowing about. And then there is the News feed (here is the recent controversial psychological experiment using news feed). I got bombarded with tons of advertisements from pages I 'liked', links I have clicked on (even outside Facebook). Also, when you have Facebook installed on your phone, you constantly wants to check even if you have no new messages. You have the tendency to reply a short message here and there. This keeps an endless vicious loop of checking, waiting and replying. Although each time you reply a message it only takes a few seconds, every second adds up and soon I found myself wasting hours every day on Facebook 'activities'. The messaging feature, of course, eventually led to the prominent rise of WhatsApp and Facebook's purchase of the startup since they are such a match made in heaven. Do you trust a hacker to safeguard your personal data? The tipping point for me was the privacy issue of Facebook, which I won't get into detail as most of you are well familiar with how your pictures (or pictures containing you) are shared on the public web without your consent. As a professional working with organizations handling vast amount of highly sensitive and private data, I know how important it is to safeguard customer's data. I have nothing against Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook. In fact I admire he and his wife's philanthropic endeavor of donating millions of dollars to charity to fix schools in California and New Jersey in the U.S. This is such a noble thing for a couple to do even when they are already millionaires. However, you should realize that Mark is by heart 100% hacker himself all the way back in his Harvard days, and I have no desire to hand my personal data to a hacker so he can employ a team of hackers to sell my data to advertisers. Just because Facebook obtain your personal information and social network profile doesn't mean they can use these data and take advantage of all those private information. Just locking up your profile and set everything to private is not enough to shield yourself from personal data being mined by Facebook. It’s really important that people understand that there are computational techniques that will reveal all kinds of information about you that you’re not aware that you’re sharing - Jennifer Golbeck Recently two TED talk lecturers, computer scientist Jennifer Golbeck and privacy economist Alessandro Acquisti, reveal the fact that we are sharing much more online that you think (videos of their talks can be found by following the link). Those information you already shared might one day be used against you, with or without your consent, and either legally or illegally. When you share information online, you are basically giving up rights to those data. Every site uses our data to a certain extent, but Facebook does it much more secretively and aggressively than other social networking sites. Facebook treats users as products and not customers. Their customers are marketers and advertisers trying to sell us their products or services! Since then I deleted my Facebook profile completely and permanently. With the time gained, I am able spend more time talking to people face to face. I am able to pursue professional certification for my career; read more; go to the countryside during weekends to exercise and to take in fresh air. For the record, I love social media and I use LinkedIn, Twitter and Wordpress frequently to share with my followers many useful, insightful and meaningful articles and thoughts. I believe the internet is a powerful tool capable of making us more informed and being more innovative with our lives. With the right tools we can empower ourselves. It is about time for you and your loved ones to re-evaluate your time spent on the most popular social network. ---- Chris Chan is currently a Project Manager/Client Adviser for Inova Software in New York City. |
InesQor: Because I am not narrow-minded in nature, I usually pay more attention to whatever is being said, than to who is saying it. Except when experience shows the person talking usually makes no sense ab initio.Very wise. |
Martian: Don't mind those two heathens. A"serious person" like you shouldnt be arguing with people without brain cells.Lol. Funny man. On the other hand if you actually meant the red words seriously, that would have been a most interesting discussion. https://www.nairaland.com/402063/meta-ethics-nature-origins-good-evil#5563422 But oh well. You probably meant it as some mockery. But there is something in there. When one imagines eternity in the past, one cannot speak of "first" - as such the word there is used to connote something like primal or primordial nature of reality. But anyway, this is probably Harry Potter talk to you. So no worries. |
Funny people. My comment wasn't based on what Nwankwo wrote. It was based on proven propensities and proclivities. The day will never come in my life again that I will waste my time with people of your shallow emptiness and vacant futility. Good luck with your acrobatic games. I wish you as many millions of futile and purposeless somersaults as you wish yourselves. Just don't ever imagine that any serious person imagines that either of you posesses a single brain cell in his head. Such a thought will be an insult to ants. |
mnwankwo: Hi Martian. Thank you for your comment. Ofcourse, I do not share your sentiment. But you are welcome to comment or even mock my posts. As always stay blessed.Class.. |
^^^ Sir, Don't waste ya time. |
Make I join you na.....I need some stout to calm down
Haha hahaha. One love bruv. |
Counselling from me? Please, I do not have time for crazy sophists like you. I would rather send Obadiah to flog the demonic rhetoric out of your mouth
Hokay o. Please its 7.59 and I am enjoying my post work Guinness stout right now. Buzz off, Kid. |
Please, send me you address. You need counselling.
Lol. I do indeed, but I am afraid not from you. |
DeepSight has fallen deeper his reasoning becomes more and more comatose
When I eventually reach the rock of all truth, my words will sound even more St.upid to you. You will be burned in the searing fires of a thousand lifetimes to recognise even a tenth of what I have recognised. Best prepare yourself. The journey is quite long. And you apparently are not even close to the starting line. |
