Chelsea, Arsenal, others plan trip to Nigeria

BARRING any last minute change, four top European teams, Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, may follow in the footsteps of Portsmouth and Manchester United who recently played a pre-season friendly match in Nigeria.

According to arrangements being made by a London-based management company, NVA, the clubs would be in Nigeria for yet another football festival in June next year.

Quoting the Chief Executive Officer of NVA Management, Chris Nathaniel, a local website disclosed yesterday that the arrangements have almost been concluded.

"We are looking to bringing a number of big clubs next summer to Nigeria. We are at the early negotiation stage with various people and we hope that 2009 will be another great year for Nigerian football with the coming of these great European clubs, " Nathaniel

Nathaniel, who also manages players such as Nigeria's Obafemi Martins, stressed that the coming of the big Europeans clubs has helped send the message across the globe that Nigeria is a safe place.

"If you have the biggest clubs coming on your soil and leaving completely happy, you can't get a better commendation than that and other clubs would now start seeing Nigeria as a place to come to for pre-season," Nathaniel said.

My sister buried while alive

• Woman speaks on ‘burial’ and ‘resurrection’ of sister
By Vincent Ukpong Kalu(vin@sunnewsonline.com)
Saturday, August 2, 2008

When Jesus Christ and Apostle Paul spoke about the signs of the end time in the Bible, they may not have had the children of Mrs. Fausat Ayo-Ola of 36 Western Avenue, Lagos in mind. In that sermon, Jesus remarked that children would rise against parents, while Apostle Paul said that children would be disobedient to parents, unthankful and without natural affection to their parents.

Living index
The children of Mrs. Ayo-Ola ignored the admonition of Jesus Christ and all it’s worth. They first declared their mother dead. They announced her obituary, organized a burial and buried a casket in the cemetery.

Why would a woman’s children organize her funeral when she is alive? Fausat’s children have no answer. Her first son, Joseph, who was at the head of the funeral hoax, having claimed to have identified and claimed his mother’s corpse, switched off his phone when Saturday Sun contacted him.

According to Airat, Fausat’s sister, trouble started when the woman travelled and stayed away for more than six months, more than usual. She said: “One day, her husband, Ope, came and told me that Fausat’s first son, Joseph said her missing mother was dead. I was surprised when, they told me she was dead, I said ‘ah, don’t tell me that oh. Go look for her.’

“I called Ope, her husband, on this development. Within a short time, he arrived with his son and I asked them to go and search for her. After two weeks, Joseph came to tell me that he has seen and identified her mother in the mortuary. I told him, you, at the age of 30, are you sure it was Fausat you saw? He maintained that it was her mother he saw. I told him that I did not believe him.

“I reminded him that his mother usually travelled and sometimes stayed long before returning home. He maintained that it was her mother’s corpse he saw at the mortuary. He said that the scar on her belly made him to be sure it was his mother. He said that they wanted to organise parties and ceremonies to give her a befitting burial, which unless I wanted to be a cog in the wheel to stop them from colleting one year rent in advance from her tenants for the funeral ceremony.

“I still advised them to carry out a through search. The husband told me that the copse at the mortuary was that of his wife. I said okay, she is your wife and she has children for you. The manner the argument was going they thought I was standing on their path and wanted to fight me. I was sitting in front of the compound; I then challenged them to come fight me. One of my sons called me to leave them alone.”

Burial posters and invitation cards surfaced

“Thereafter, I saw obituary posters pasted on the wall of our house and the neighbourhood and invitation cards were also printed and given out to friends and well wishers. The two A3 size obituary poster signed by Mr. Joseph Abayomi Ope-Oluwa reads: Call to Glory: With heavy but thankful heart and in total submission to the will of God, we announce the transition into glory, the death of our beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Fausat Ayoola-Opeoluwa, Nee Amodu (a.ka. Omo Ejalonibu) who slept in the Lord on Wednesday, 30th April 2008 at the age of 57.

“From the funeral arrangement, Christian wake keep/ lying-in state was held on June 12, 2008 by 5 PM at her residence, 36, Western Avenue, Ojuelegba. The funeral service was held at the same venue the next day by 10 AM and interment followed immediately and the guests were entertained thereafter at her residence, Surulere.

They organized elaborate ceremony from the wake keep through the next day that was the funeral proper. They implored me to come out and joint them, but I refused and stayed indoors. A live band played. The children and their friends and well wishers served Ankara uniform. At the end of the ceremony, umbrella and ceramics plates, among other items, were distributed as gifts to invitees.

Fausat “resurrects”

According to Airit, pandemonium broke out about 11 PM one day when Fausat returned. People started running away. “I summoned courage and called her and she answered. I boldly moved forward and touched her. She was surprised and asked me what the problem was. Immediately, I called the children and the husband and told them that their mother they buried had ‘resurrected.’ The children and their father did not answer me. They put off their phones and did not come.

“The second day, I called and told them that their mother had come back; that they should come see her. They came only to fight and accused me that I was the one who told them that their mother was dead. I asked them if I was the one that took them to the mortuary or collated one year rent in advance to organise the hoax funeral? Their father accused me of going to bring back Fausat.

I am not dead…

Fausat told Saturday Sun, “I am not dead… I am alive. It is my children. I travelled to Kano and had accident on the leg and they said Fausat is dead. It is a lie. It is my children. I’m just managing my self…. She started weeping.”

Property at the centre of it all

Airat said: “Our eldest sister, Ashamu, wants to sell the house. She has already sold other property and wants to sell this one that I am residing and I have refused and said it cannot happen. If you look every part of the building, it is written, ‘this house is not for sale. Beware of 419.’ The matter is now pending at Lagos High Court.

“I have told Joseph, his siblings and husband that they should take their mother to Yaba Psychiatrist Hospital. They refused. They said they would come tomorrow and their tomorrow has been endless. The husband is living at Shomolu Bariga area. I don’t know the specific address.

“Our elder Ashamu sister living at 82 Oguelegba road wants to sell the 32 Western Avenue. She was at the hoax funeral ceremony. She has been served with court order to restrain her from selling this property. She had sold some other property. She wants to sell this and the one at Ojuelegba. As I am living here, I don’t have any other place to go if she sells this one and that is why I am opposing the sale.”

Airat, on behalf of Fausat and Ramota, had, on October 31, 2007, through Taiwo Odumosu Chambers, written to Ashamu warning her against the sale of family property and demanded for account on the property known as Okiti lane, Isale Eko

In a 28-paragraph counter affidavit by Kuburatu Ashamu to the motion by Airat, deposed at Lagos High Court Registry on December 11, 2207, Ashamu said that Airat cannot hold brief for Fausat and Ramota, as the two are mentally indisposed.

In paragraph 9 of the affidavit, Ashamu maintained that because the two step sisters are mentally sick and not capable of taking decisions for themselves, she has been doing that with the consent of their children.

Ashamu denies coveting family property

Speaking to Ashamu on her intention to sell the family’s property, she maintained that she has no intention to sale the 32 Western Avenue. She denied receiving a letter from a lawyer on the issue.

She denied participating in the burial of her stepsister or being at the ceremony.

No comments by Joseph

Joseph, the first son of Fausat, was asked over the telephone why he declared his mother dead when she was not. He said he did not have any comments. What of the corpse he identified in the morgue as his mother’s? He said he did not have any thing to say. When asked who he buried in the casket he brought for the funeral on June 13, he switched off the phone.

Danmasani , for your information please look at the 200 nautical miles, which UNITED NATION called part of the area of a country, if tomorrow the yoruba decided to leave nigeria. According to the United nation, 200 nautical miles of the coastal is us. Here is a picture of nigeria 200 nautical map. And some the claim delta and balyase get from oil, really are in ondo state. The Yorubas would taken away our over 1 million oil barrel a day which nigeria is given delta and bayelse state. please verify this information with the united nation. second map below is the oil field in nigeria. The line to your left west is oil field in ondo state, delta and balyase is claiming derivation for.

Here is Nigeria state by state 200 nautical mile . the first line is ondo state. then delta, balyase , rivers. So Delta and balyase are collecting money that they should not been collecting those money belong to Ondo state 200 nautical miles. Really nearly half of the money delta and Balyase are collecting are money that ondo state should recieve
.

Omo, explain this your 200 nautical mile in a lay man's term. Where in the 200 mile did Osun state come in?

Death in the palace: Family, youths set for showdown

By Kunle Adeyemi, Sesan Olufowobi, Olalekan Adetayo and Sebastine Ebhuomhan

Members of the immediate family of Abiodun Yusuf Odubiyi who was found dead at the palace of the Onitire of Itire, Lagos State, Oba Lateef Dauda, as well as other youths in the community are warming up for a showdown with the community leaders.

Odubiyi was found dead with a rope on his neck near a shrine at the palace on July 19.

The case, which was earlier reported to the police at Itire, was later referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, on July 21.

As at press time on Thursday, the two groups were meeting at different spots in the area with the aim of taking a common position on the issue.

This came just as the initial result of the autopsy conducted on the 28-year-old man indicated that he died of ”suspected asphyxia occasioned by alleged hanging till death.”

The autopsy report exclusively obtained by THE PUNCH in Lagos on Thursday was conducted by Dr. O. L. Lawal, of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

It was further learnt that the blood sample of the deceased had already been taken to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

A top police source at the SCID told our correspondents that the result was being expected on August 2.

One of our correspondents who was at the deceased‘s family house at 1, Ijesha Road, Itire on Thursday quoted the bereaved father as saying that he would only make a categorical statement on the issue after a meeting slated for the evening.

He was on his way to the meeting when our correspondent arrived at the house.

A sibling of the deceased who identified himself simply as Akeem, also told our correspondent that the death of Odubiyi was a great loss to the family.

According to Akeem, the deceased was not only a close confidant of the monarch, but he was also the palace secretary.

He said the youth wing of Itire residents under the aegis of Itire Descendants Youth, was to hold a meeting on the issue at Itire Primary School beside the Itire Police Station.

He also said that the outcome of the meeting would be disclosed to our correspondent on Friday (today).

The monarch, who became the first suspect in the case, had been arrested alongside 10 others, and taken to SCID for interrogation.

After spending hours in police custody, the security agents granted the monarch and other suspects bail.

Our correspondents learnt that another traditional ruler, who satisfied the condition of owning a property in Lagos, stood surety for the embattled monarch.

An investigation by our correspondents on Thursday showed that the monarch had vacated the palace since he was granted bail.

However, a source said the traditional ruler was on the run considering the magnitude and consequences of the alleged offence.

But our correspondents found out that the prime suspect was taking refuge in the palace of another traditional ruler (name withheld) within the metropolis.

Speaking with a resident of the area on Thursday, our correspondents were told that the incident had defiled the palace and it (the palace) needed to be cleansed through the performance of some traditional rites.

Our correspondents also learnt that in Yoruba culture, a monarch is not expected to set his eyes on a corpse and since this had happened, a general purification of the king and the palace was necessary.

The source confirmed to our correspondents that the rites to be performed demanded that the traditional ruler should vacate the palace

When contacted on Thursday, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, denied any knowledge that the monarch was on the run.

Mba said, ”We have conducted the first round of investigation and the suspects were granted bail after satisfying all the conditions.

”I don‘t believe that the suspect has run away or will run away. A surety stood for him and signed the appropriate papers; anytime we need him, we know how to get him.

”Don‘t forget, this is a peculiar case that has generated much public interest. We are still on our investigation and at the appropriate time, we shall come out with our findings.”

Attempts by our correspondents to authenticate the true status of the victim on Thursday showed that he was neither a corps member nor a student of Lagos State University and earlier claimed.

The Public Relations Officer of the National Youth Service Corps, Lagos Office, Mrs. Joys Madaki, told one of our correspondents that the agency had no records of the deceased as a corps member.

Madaki said all efforts at getting the deceased particulars‘ that can link him to the agency had not yielded any fruitful result.

She said, ”We are interested in knowing whether he is truly a corps member and whether he is serving in Lagos or outside the state. There is no concrete information on the deceased so far.

“As far as we are concerned, anybody can wear NYSC uniform and people will take him for a corps member.”

The Chief Security Officer of LASU, Col. Aliyu Usman (rtd), told one of our correspondents that the school was already verifying the authenticity of the claim that the deceased was a Chemical Engineering student in the institution.

As at press time, Usman has not got back to our correspondents.

could anyone be of help please. i just recently bought a 1998 toyota camry. i noticed that the check engine light has been on for some time now. although the car drives quite smoothly and there are no strange noises, it seems fuel consumption is rather high. i always have the air conditioner switched on though (i live in a rather hot town). i do not want to take the car to any mechanics yet until i have an idea of what might be wrong. i'll appreciate your candid responses.
It could be anything . Oxygen sensor is bad, oil sensor, bad fuel, fuel cap was not closed tightly, transmission problem(thats a big one) etc. You need to run a scan on the car to know what is at fault. Shoot, the car is 10 yrs old, that means it's a very old car and it could be the vents are dusty or the throttle acceleration sensor.

CultureRe: Who Is A Jew Man? by DeepZone(op): 7:20am On Aug 03, 2008
There is no specific definition of a 'Jew man'. Those who said it is a term used solely by 'cultist' are not very accurate, since the country does not revolve around 'cultists' and their terminology.

Here are some of the various categories of 'Jewmanship'

You are a 'Jew Man' If. . .

1. You don't sleep with a girl on a first date

2. Your sense of fashion is very shabby and 'repulsive' (I.e you are not a slave to fashion trend or wear those shapeless atrocious pants blowing in the wind like a tattered flag)

3. You don't have a girl friend

4. You talk about Jesus when others are talking about the female anatomy (You could be thrown out of the window if you don't watch it Grin)

5. You go to those prayer meetings instead of the Ikwokirikwo parties

6. You have a girlfriend for more than three months but have never done anything beyond holding hands and hugging ('SuperDupaJuman' 'Ju-est of all Jumen')

7. You are physically ugly and have never done anything to enhance your looks (like a good haircut)

The Ju list is endless. . .

To sum it up, 'Jew Man' is a term (inflammatory and derogatory) often used by hooligans, irresponsible enthusiasts, miscreants etc to label people who do not exactly fit into their definition of 'cool'. To these group of people, a gentleman may end up at the top of the 'ju' list. Grin
Roflmao
5. You go to those prayer meetings instead of the Ikwokirikwo parties
