OP,Did they force you to be a member of that church? If you don't like it rigid why don't you go to the hundreds of thousands of liberal churches existing.Aren't you aware that rigid churches existing now are just too few and it will be too boring and pervert to have all churches liberal and loose.Must every church be liberal? if its liberal people will complain they're wayward, and if its rigid people still complain they're too harsh.Na wah ooo!!
Please, read the post again, and then reply appropriately. Thanks.

You may want to determine if your friends knew about the earrings and scarf rules. If they did, they have nobody to blame. If they didn't, you want to know how they can belong to a fellowship and they don't understand its MO.

I have come to a conclusion that ANY group of people given enough time will develop habits, routines. Humans like other animals are averse to spontaneity and uncertainty so they create habits to have some certainty. You wake up at specific times, shower, eat....

A man called to God develops a routine, style and preferences. That's why some followed Paul, others Cephas. He starts holding meetings on specific ways, buys certain instruments, plays certain music, has a certain seating arrangement, preaches at certain hours for specific duration, and all his meetings follow patterns. This is how traditions develop in churches; out of routine. The verse below may have pointed to this. I would hate to bash a fellowship for their routine, but sometimes this can easily grow into dogmatism and rigidity. It's up to an individual to determine if this is too much for them. Christian leaders need to avoid confusing traditions for God's Word

2 Thes 3:6(ESV)
6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.
Thanks for your input. You were right: I believe the woman in question should have known it's routines and traditions.

As per some doctrines becoming too rigid and burdensome, I'm with you. As a matter of fact, that was why I left the DLBC. It was all too mechanical and physical for me.

Once again, thanks for tour input.

Good evening, my good NLanders!

I'm indeed happy to.be here.

I have been on NO for a little over 3 years but I have limited myself to Religion Section. That section can make one irreligious. The Atheists there fit kill person! Dem sami argue shaaa!

This evening, I had gone through a few posts and the accompanying comments, and was so disappointed I had frequented this beautiful section. It's my wish that you people will continue the good works here!

I have no business being here if I'm not going to learn a thing or two. The particular thread of losing a loved one brought some soberness to me. I lost a cousin last Saturday in a marine accident. It's being a tough period. We are still mourning!

I'm married with two kids....Born and brought up in Lagos. I'm from BY. I currently work in PH. I believe in simplicity. I believe in liberality.

God bless you all, as you welcome me here!

Shalom. Good nite!
TravelRe: Have You Ever Missed A Flight? by dein77(m):
I have missed my flight. Once. That was back in . 20 12. Na Nokia E63 cause am.

I was headed for Lagos, from PH, to a very close friend's marriage ceremony. My departure was scheduled for 1230 hrs noon. I was in the departure lounge by 1100hrs. I was flying with AERO.

I was absorbed with my phone. I was reading a very interesting article. It was about relationships. Una know relationship matter na? I was completely unaware of my surrounding. I didn't even hear when my flight was announced. I was just glued to my phone. Other passengers were already seated. Suddenly I came to my senses. I rushed to the tarmac, and was shocked as I saw the plane door being locked. I had missed my flight. E be like film, but e don she'll!

It took me some courage to tell my wife what had happened. I had to reschedule the flight. Though I got another plane, but it cost me additional N12000. I was ashamed of myself.

Well, attitude is everything! I then asked myself what lessons were learned. They were at least two.1) Always pay attention in the departure hall, 2) I should be prepared for the RAPTURE. There's no rescheduling that one.

I finally landed Lagos in the evening. The wedding occasion was successful. I had learned some very bitter lessons....

Do I hear you say harsh? If the pastor was harsh am sure the woman would not even be permitted to dedicate her child. So I will say the pastor was mild.
Most importantly, I think the pastor use the said woman as an example for others to learn.

Am a member of MFM and as such, on my wedding day I need no prophet to tell me not to put make up (mary care ,etc) just because is a special day , if I want to do my wedding in the church.

There are several churches that permit you to wear whatever you so please, so she should have gone to such church and stop creating scene where there is non.

Please don't take it personal, I just have to say my mind.
Dear, I can't take it personal. This thread was created to have your inputs. It will be worthless without your thoughts and comments.

I think I go with your thoughts. But it's my opinion the pastor was a bit too harsh.

Christianity EtcBaby Dedication Almost Ruined Because Mother Wear Ear Ring And Attachment by dein77(op): 3:44pm On Nov 04, 2014
Coincidentally I just did my daughter's dedication last Sunday. Everything went well.
This post isn't actually about my baby's.

A couple of days ago, an office colleague of mine narrated how a baby dedication in her church.was almost ruined because the baby's mother had ear rings and attachment on her.

This incident happened in one of MFM branches in PH. The mother had to practically remove both her ear rings and turbaned her hair like Tambuwal or Sanusi before she was allowed into the church to dedicate her baby. To make matters worse, the mother wore the ear rings and unturbaned herself almost immediately after the dedication.

My colleague herself was so angry and embarrassed at the development. I was also angry.

I advocate decent and modest dressing, but refusing to dedicate a baby because it's mother wore ear ring was a bit too harsh.

Our churches are practically making it more cumbersome to serve God. The doctrines of churches are increasingly becoming more burdensome and grievous than the words of Christ. Serving God shouldn't make us appear gloomy and sad, and make us look like we're doing God a favour by serving Him.

It was similar burdensome doctrines like these that made me stop attending the Deeper Life Bible Church. Let's not create stumbling blocks for our brethren.

Let's exalt the words of Christ more than the mere doctrines of men....

Churches should quit making it unnecessarily difficult for men to access Christ.

After 13 years, I left the Deeper Life Bible Church because it was, at least to me, becoming too mechanical. The sin consciousness was indeed a burden I couldn't bear.
The doctrines of the church were more demanding and burdensome than the words of Jesus Christ.
However, the church gave me a firm foundation.

You are welcome.

It is ok, I was not really out to convince but to put things in perpective and let anyone chose what they want to do. Everyone has the grace to chose o.

I understand many take it overboard but many take fasting, praying and attending church programmes overboard yet it doesn't stop people from doing it. It is left to our choice and discretion.

Yes, you could not have said it better really. It is voluntary just like even accepting Jesus Christ is. God checks the heart so anyone who feels he gives and yet is double-minded, acts all forced and does not let it go from his heart, should not expect anything from the Lord (James 1:7).

You know the kind of giving that moved God so much that he swore by Himself to bless Abraham, one in which we all enjoy today? When He had realeased Isaac to the Lord as a Sacrifice even before he carried it out. His action of physically doing it cemented it. That is the kind of giving God wants.

Reason why I laugh seeing people bicker over a tenth. What will they do when they have to give all.

As you said, let everyone purpose to give and be persuaded in His mind.

Thanks.
Thanks for presenting your case in a loving and godly manner.

I look forward to discussing with you some.more.

To those who want to give, let them.give freely and bountifully.

Lastly, I believe all these tithe debates aroused from the profligate and extravagant lifestyles of most of our senior men of God.

Great to know the dedication went well. Take care of all o (madam and child(ren)).

Actually Paul did not speak much about both tithe and offering yet Paul himself brought offerings to the temple and also said that the Lord had commanded that those who preached the gospel lived of it and he called it a right so what else does one need to hear. We all know he said he had to even take wages from other churches to minister to a particular church. What is the reason and purpose of a thing should be the question?

It is never a good idea to cling to beliefs just because...so you are on the right path for searching for the truth yourself...one thing many forget to check in the Malachi 3:8 was that God was speaking about BOTH TITHES AND OFFERING...So it is strange to say you won't tithe because it comes with a curse yet you are comfortable with offering.

No one in Christ is under a curse as you said. Because Christ is the one who died for him and will teach him what to do and how to live. Jesus had himself spoken about tithe and never condemned it but instead told us the right way to do it, he said same about prayer and others. As long as anyone LACKS LOVE no amount of giving (even if he offers himself to be burnt for others) is of value..I Cor. 13 even says so. God looks at the heart to qualify the action.

Let us put things in proper perspective. Cheers.
My dear, thanks for the dedication messages.

Actually I still bring my tithe, though I haven't done so in months. I don't intend stopping !

However, I now understand the issue too well, and in the light of further revelations, may stop. My grouse is the undue emphasis laid by many pastors on tithing and the accompanying threat of being sent a devourer should one discontinue paying the tithe.
My dear, I believe God isn't unjust or unmindful of the numerous givings I do every month. As a matter of fact, I give more than 4 times my tithe every single month.
Tithe is voluntary. And nobody should be cajoled into tithing. God only blesses voluntary giving.
Lastly, let him that tithe continue; and let him that doesn't tithe seek not to condemn the other.
Everybody should be convinced in their own mind.

If anybody has been following the scriptures well. Giving money in church is not same as giving to God. what really matters is how much you give to the poor.
the church wastes a lot of money on expensive buildings and equipment, while many people in their area cant afford daily food. And nobody should give me that crap that the church building is the house of God.
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

until you are able to assist those in need with a significant part of your income, you have not really keyed into the benefits of giving. That is what our master, Jesus would love us do. Not spending fortune on massive buildings, equipment, luxury vehicles and aircraft to give ourselves first class treatments everyday.
Thank you. There's almost nothing to add. You nailed it!

I have shared briefly what I believe dedication means.

When borrowing OT concepts, I find it wise to aks if primitive Christians did it and if not why not or what they did.

Tithing is a LATE tradition at least 400 years after Pentecost. That is quite telling. The problem with believers is they shun history when it condemns them but embrace it when it supports their stand. Please study child dedication history
Exactly my approach to the tithe issue. Immediately it occurred to me Apostle Paul and the other Early Church didn't speak about Tithe, I made up my mind concerning it. Nobody can place a curse on whom Christ has been made a curse for!

Till date, it's my nature to check every single conviction of mine one a superior argument is presented before me. The era of clinging to beliefs just because they have been there for centuries is long gone.

I believe in tithing. But I don't agree that we should be forced to give it. God loves a cheerful giver. God is not a beggar. If you can't willingly give God 10% of your increase, you may as well keep it.

Those who don't give tithe should stop criticising those who do. And if you are not giving God your tithe, then what are you giving Him? You can't say you love God without givng to Him.

So whether we give God tithe or not, we are all accountable to Him. Everything He gave us are in trust; we are stewards of the resources God put in our hands. Titheing is one of the ways we appreciate that privilege.

It pays to pay your tithe. I am a witness!
Thank you.....

paying of tithes started before the Law was given.
Tithe indeed existed before the law. It was first recorded in Gen 14 where Abraham met with the King of Salem and willingly gave him a tenth of his war looks. Before and after this isolated incident, there's no mention of tithe being given by Abraham.

Truth is, I still pay my tithe. But i don't do.it from a law point of view. And I don't feel guilty or condemned if I fail to pay it in a month. As a worker, I give more three times my tithe every month.

Other ordinances were also instituted before the law. Why do we retain only the tithe?

If you haven't gotten the revelation, pls keep paying your tithes.....
