As an investor, I second this motion. It's time for the baboon to also come and work with the monkey.
ositadima1:
If I were the management of OkumuOil, I would never give in to extortion. I would beef up security, install motion sensors and cameras on the premises' perimeters. I would employ the military or paramilitary to guard the establishment. I would provide living quarters for the workers and safe transportation in and out of the company.

The community should go and establish their own farm. grin grin grin cheesy

All this does not mean the host and neighboring communities will not receive some "corporate social responsibility", but it should be a voluntary decision and not forced extortion. Kilode!! tongue

With the series of events happening to OKOMU, won't it be wise to DIVERSIFY to other regions that are relatively safe?
It doesn't have to be sudden but it could be gradual. You don't want a situation where the whole business operation is put on hold when something like this happens again.

An additional data will be to compare with the estimated reserves of each nation. In our own case, too many holes dey this pipeline of a thing.
KarlTom:
Two major factors that increase cost of production
1. Type of field: Desert or deep water well.
2. Security.
Let me shock you, the highest cost of production is actually USD70 for USA smiley

On the bolded, let me give you an excerpt that was not captured by Punch:
"Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), told lawmakers last week that oil companies operating in Nigeria gave tax authorities $48.71 as their average cost of producing crude oil per barrel in Nigeria. "

That's the reason I said security is a major factor behind the high production cost. International oil companies are leaving the sector because security payouts are gulping their resources...

First, remember investing is not a SPRINT rather it is a marathon.
What is your risk appetite like?
Are you here for the short, medium or long-term?
What sector or public company/companies do you find interest in?
You can then build from there by researching. The web is your friend if you know how.

There is always a bad element in a good result likewise a good element in a bad result.
Your job is to leverage on both scenarios to build a portfolio to stand the test of time.

I see this NS/DS saga as a way to price the respective stocks better. Additionally, it is best to consider the best and worst-case scenarios before putting your money in.
The Market has no respect for emotions.

Dropped this in a screener, and got 21 companies.

What do you think?
I will advise you to do it based on sectors rather than just making comparisons haphazardly.

For the return on net tangible assets (RONTA), look for one with at least 20%.

Use the formula;
RONTA = Net Income / Net Tangible Assets

To find the Net Tangible Asset use;
Total Assets (-) Total Liabilities (-) Intangible Assets

One way to reduce your electricity consumption is to be aware of the appliances that you leave on that consume a whole lot of the electricity.

You can start averaging down from the most important to the least important.

We still need more players in the power sector. The two Alhajis may consider that in the future but nah O&G be the koko right now.

A spark of positivity for investors, knowing that there are no wide margins in arbitraging.

The naira is still finding solid ground while the whole market calms down a bit. Over to the Fiscal side to set the economy back on track by tackling food inflation first.

People voted you to work for them and work you must do.

Padi Mi has said it all. You are here to learn and not burn your hands quickly.
Even if it is just 1 to 5 shares that you wait patiently to buy is better than the ones you rush to buy all because say you dey as someone to recommend what you should buy.
You can't succeed in this market until to embrace the loss that comes with it. Enjoy losing as much as you enjoy losing.
Ire oo!!
222Martins:
To all the newbies always asking what stock or company should i buy? I will say this once and for all.

NOBODY can tell you what is best for you to buy/sell because they don't know where you are coming from, your risk appetite and where you are headed. I might recommend a stock to you and all i need is for that stock to move 20% so i can make N100M profit, while you will be praying for that same stock to move 100% so you can make N1Million profit.

This is why i am more inclined to discuss companies prospects and performance; rather than buy/sell recommendations.

The stock market, real estate, bonds, T-Bills, SPVs, etc are all investment vehicles..........and the sole job of a vehicle is to get you from point A to B. Now before putting a kobo in any investment vehicle, ask yourself: Where am i now? (Point A) and where am i heading to? (Point B and C). The answer to this question will form the foundation of your investment plan and goal; and will go a long way to determine the type of investment vehicle to take.

Sometimes, it may take boarding and disembarking 2 or 3 investment vehicles to get from point A to C. The timeframe of this journey, the best vehicle to take and the challenges you will face enroute your destination is what nobody can perfectly predict for you.

You will be surprised that you may quit the journey along the way or change your direction as you get older and more experienced. When i was younger and ambitious, my goal was to grow my personal paper portfolio to N1Billion.........As i grew older and experienced, i realised that the only reason i wanted a N1Billion portfolio was just for bragging rights... That excitement is all gone today.

Today, all i want is to keep my money and paper assets moving ahead of inflation.....While making sure that my hard assets are hedged against any political/economic shock; and my children are groomed to carry on the mission once my time on earth is done.

So please, do yourself a favour and start asking the right questions............ Instead of asking for what/when to buy/sell, ask for opinions on company prospects, corporate announcements and company performance based on their Financial statement and future Outlook.

Wanting to make money in the stock market is not enough fire to see you through the perils of the market. You will need a stronger goal and a solid plan to stay and grow in the game.

Dear Newbies,
I know you are overwhelmed with how infos dey come left, right and centre. My advice is for you to go back to pg.1 and learn right from the beginning.

Go on a journey of the ups and downs of NSEMPA and see have some have weathered the storm as well as some who couldn't survive the storm.

We are all in this to build wealth and not just a fair share of one-hit-wonder.

Have a lovely trading week!!

The range of 160-180 is where I will be looking to average down if I have any interest in MTN’s recovery.

On the Macro side, we wait for Q1 results at least before committing reasonable Afolabi units.

P.S.; NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. Do your Research!

A word of advice to newbies on this forum is to go back to the very first page of this forum and follow through. 50% of your questions can be answered by just doing due diligence to go through past comments.

Even till this day I still backtrack to refresh myself on some OG bants 🤣

What you have in this forum is a gold mine that rewards the PATIENT.
