Pay TV operator, StarTimes, has acquired the rights to broadcast LaLiga matches live on its platform in Nigeria from next season, The PUNCH reports. The news comes as relief for the country’s teeming football populace, millions of whom are followers of LaLiga, as the latest development affords them the chance to watch live Spanish top-tier league matches on the platform of StarTimes. It also brings to an end the exclusivity clause in live sports content broadcasting rights in Nigeria, after stakeholders had clamoured for its removal. In January, the Federal Government prohibited exclusivity rights in broadcasting sporting events in the country. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, directed the National Broadcasting Commission to implement a new regulation mandating broadcasters and exclusive licensees to share such exclusive rights with other broadcasters. Mohammed stated, “This regulation prevents the misuse of monopoly or market power or anti-competitive and unfair practices by a foreign or local broadcaster to suppress other local broadcaster in the television and radio markets. “This is so, having removed exclusivity from all content in Nigeria and mandated the sharing of all content upon the payment of commercially viable fees.” StarTimes’ entry into LaLiga is expected to redefine the Pay TV sector and further attract more Nigerians to the league, which boasts some of the biggest names like Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Jan Oblak, Luiz Suarez in world football, a top stakeholder told our correspondent. “Their (StarTimes) affordable pricing, when compared to the other major players in the sector, will bring a competitive edge,” our source said. I can confidently say it's a lie. One of my distant uncle left the army. Too many rubbish going on there. ![]() |

I think i have seen her in a South African movie series before. SCANDAL! on e.tv Africa |
A legend just gone. He was the face of Kora in the world. If you don't know, Kora is one of Africa most popular musical instrument after talking drum and "Shekere". A culture heritage that originated from the Madinka ethnic tribe (Kunta Kinte's people), a tribe spread all across more than 8 countries in West Africa (Côte d'ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Sénégal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry, even Bissau Guinea). Wherever, you find the Madinka, they share same languages and culture. Mory Kanté, according to his kinsmen's traditions, was a "Griot" which we can refer to in English as an "eulogizer". A griot performs many functions in the old Madinka society. He is a town crier by default, he attends marriages, burial, naming ceremony, etc... He is held in high esteem in the community, and Mory was. I really enjoyed his music. Alas! He bade farewell! His legacy will keep us entertained for a very long time. ![]()

OhiOfIhima:As an act of wetin? Lol |
iCauseTrouble:Now i understand this Nairaland thing, everyone is defending his own thief. Instead of staying together to denounce what all these politicians are doing. Meanwhile, when they intend to loot our commonwealth, they are more united than the US of A. |
We are in Africa, therefore the reality of the old continent should be captured. Not all this ''A" for"Apple" rethorics . Does apple normally grow in your hometown? I guess no. Don't let the west dictate how you are to teach even though standard education came from them. Tell your own story, be original. |
Lexusgs430:Lol... I don't want him to be saddled with a loss which i will be part of. Our friendship may be affected. Since i don't want to burst his bubble for him, i prefer to say nicely "Hold on". It's better that way, i think. |
Lexusgs430:I just read some analysis made by a group of people in another public forum about this Crowd1 and so many shady areas in their Ts and Cs. Funny enough, a friend of mine is trying to get me registered with them even as he said he's ready to pay for everything. I told him to hold on for i still have my doubts about this. Infact, Crowd1, the way I'm seeing it will be a big shock compared to MMM. |
What about Crowd1? Is it going to meet the same fate? |
That's a nice gesture! |
fergie001:Ehen...better, my brother! Because, i know ivorians well enough, they don't travel out much. But when they do, it's usually Europe straight! |
fergie001:Where did you get this information about "100 Ivoiriens"? |
No need to insult people, they are also Nigerians, just like you! Jack500: |
It's very simple, since the system is failing you. And, you know there is nothing you can do to change it, do away with it. I was in a francophone country before i came back to the country. There, they have Canal+ , if you doubt my saying, go and research it. The amount they pay to watch the almighty Premiership is not much compared to what Dstv offers my countrymen. See, so many companies are ripping Nigerians. When i tell people around me, what annoys me is that some of them will still find enough strength to challenge what i am saying. So, i decided to "siddon look''. This "suffering and smiling" syndrome is holding this nation far behind. I won't say more than that before THEY come after me with machete. |
KEVIND:Of which year? This 2020 or 2030? ![]() |
There will never be rumbling over increasing insecurity, lack of adequate infrastructures, inefficient labour workforce, epileptic power supply, no access to potable and public water, poor medical facilities, etc + etc = 2etcs ![]() See... Nigeria's problem seems too big however it's not unsolvable. I swear. |
I beg of you, don't wish that. Make another wish that will not touch we the people. ![]() Maxymilliano: |
The next presidential election, i will give it a try. Honestly! Blackking98: |
No serious contenders, seriously! When Nigeria, Nigerians and their leaders are ready, they should let us know. Vote that doesn't even count, and the one that counts turns out to be useless. Blackking98: |
This means your vote will be considered as null and void. LolBlackking98: |
This kind of statement could cause a revolution if people were serious in this country. Poverty is not good, it strikes the belly first, but its most dangerous target is the mind. When the mind is defeated, nothing will be taken serious, hence the reason, you'll see nairalanders laugh instead of getting angry. I think the best thing to do now, as a youth, is to forget that we have a government. What is left is Nigeria, we should hold onto it. Do what you can for this country, in this country, not because of the government. Ps: I'm tired! |
I agree with you more than i do with Op. Ps: The Op is also right to some extent (that truth is not fully applicable to Nigeria). Frankyboy1: |
I believe he means by sponsoring terrorism all over the place where US has structures. OChimex: |
Sure ! Fox News is on their highest bouquet (Classic) edoairways: |
You are answering with another question. Just tell me her initials. I do go to Lagos many times for business and research stuffs, but i reside in Osun for now. AkandeJoseph99: |
Please Op, I'm sorry to interrupt. I'd like you to answer the following questions. I feel I'm the other guy. In wich state is the girl staying? Which school? What is her initials as in first letter of her Surname and so on? Ps: I'm not trying to hurt you emotionally, i just want to know. Because your story is somehow similar to my own situation. AkandeJoseph99: |
It's not laziness, I'm also a researcher but in another entirely different domain (Languages). Infact, the more we discover things unknown, the more my faith grew exponentially in the person behind all this. Who could that be, if not Allah. Why? He already mentioned it in the Holy Book. Don't see muslims as people who just sit around, with no input in nowadays scientific discoveries. It is mandatory for all muslims to look for knowledge. I don't want to bombard you with Quranic and Traditional Prophetic citations on that. Let's use our intellect (although mine is based on religious concept) to discuss this. Back to what you said, "some individuals" disagreed yet at the end of the day they came at the same conclusion with what Allah has said before their forefathers were given birth to. budaatum: |
Yes, this truth applies in many contexts and dispositions related to human to human affairs not the Creator. So many things our human brain can't process is best left without questions. If not for the advent of microscope, would you have believed there are creatures you can't see with your naked eyes despite that you're not blind. Not because they are invisible, they are too small for you to see. Likewise, there are some so big but you still can't see them. Ex: planets (stars) in the sky. budaatum: |
