I had to pay a bribe just to get my e passport about 11 months ago. This was despite paying $700 air fare to Ottawa, hotel expenses and other associated costs. It was pretty annoying but I needed the passport for my Canadian Papers. Quite a disgrace they are.

You are partially correct. She is not his biological mother. His real mother died about 12 years ago, not 21. He didn't even attend, and had other politicians like aregbesola attend in his stead. This his so called mother is all politics.
PoliticsRe: Man, 22, To Die By Hanging For Stealing N955, 600. by deniyor: 6:22pm On Apr 19, 2013
Topic is misleading. I initially felt that the crime did not fit the punishment till it said armed robbery. Crude or not, if you carry a gun and rob people, you put lives in jeopardy and you should be killed... Hanging or firing squad, I have no preference.

And for politicians that rob with the stroke of the pen, jail them and throw the key away. At least they deserve lengthy sentences and should lose any financial gains from such embezzlement.
FamilyRe: My Dad Breaks Me Down Everyday by deniyor: 2:07pm On Apr 05, 2013
We all face adversity growing up and it is our responses to those adversities that defines us.
You do not have your fathers respect. And some of it has to do with the fact you feel a sense of entitlement instead of earning it. If you want his attention why don't you become the very and most successful of his kids. You will sure get his attention alright.

When I was 'kicked' out of my fathers house, I decided to reward them by being very successful. That was my driving force and today, even though I'm just getting started, I definitely have their respect and attention.
TV/MoviesRe: 5 Annoying Things Nigerians Do In Cinemas by deniyor: 9:46pm On Mar 27, 2013
Jollof: My girl and I went to see Jack and the Beanstalk Jack the Giant Slayer last night and it was more entertaining than I had anticipated (Though I never noticed any female giants, which begs the question, 'How on earth were such a mythical army of 'males' born in the first place?). We arrived in good time, bought the calorie-adding popcorn and fizzy drink, plus we were the third couple to walk into the screening room, allowing us to pick choice seats. Unfortunately there was one critical factor we were completely unprepared for and had no way of predicting - the unpredictability of Nigerian cinema goers. *flexes fingers*

1. Talking on their phones. Whilst we watched Fee Fi Fo Fum confront Jack, I had to hold myself from not confronting the buffoon on my row who was answering a mobile phone call. He made no attempt to whisper - you could hear every single word he was saying (so much so that I heard him say he would call back in 10 minutes when he knew fully well that the movie had another hour to go! Seriously?!!). He must have talked for a good 3 minutes with no interruptions - not even a 'shush' from anyone in the audience...bizarre. I know what I was thinking of telling him (To know what that was, click here only if you're 18 or older).

2. Putting their feet up on the seat in front. Despite the fact that the seats in Silverbird Cinemas Ikeja can be reclined (just like you have on airplanes) some movie goers here still feel the need to milk every possible position of comfort. Not only is putting your feet up on someone else's seat bad manners but it also makes the poor person sat in that chair look like a bunny rabbit with dirty ears! (imagine the soles of two shoes on top of someone's head).

3. Bringing babies under 1 year. I'm no expert on babies but I'm pretty sure that exposing their tiny eardrums to thunderous explosions aptly amplified by Dolby surround speakers (just for good measure) would not aid hearing development. I can understand the challenges of finding a trustworthy babysitter or persuading a relative to watch over the baby. However, there's always the earplugs option, the rent-a-DVD option or the wait-till-the-movie-comes-out-on- DVD option. For God's sake, prioritize! baby first, giants later!

4. Talking to the cinema screen. We all get carried away sometimes. But when there are other people around you there should be limits. At what point would a movie watcher realize that all his warnings and pockets of advice are not being ignored by the movie characters - THEY CAN'T HEAR YOU BECAUSE IT IS ONLY A MOVIE! Or maybe they just feel the people around them are probably so dim that we need an indirect explanation to bring us up to speed >> 'Thanks but I watched the movie synopsis, I'm familiar with this sort of mythological theme and story-line, and most importantly I have over 25 years of movie-watching experience!' Keep your commentary to yourself and STFU refer to the link in point 1.

5. Standing up minutes before the movie ends. Some Nigerians just don't get the full value of what they pay for simply because they lack patience. Take for instance the blockbuster movie The Avengers which had some added movie footage after the credits. Other notable movies with added footage include, THOR and Fast Five. It wouldn't hurt to just sit tight for another 3 minutes just to be sure that you haven't missed a sneak preview into any possible sequels. Or don't they even want to know the name of that really good actress with the nice butt and sexy accent or the hunk with the biceps and piercing blue eyes? (for example). I frankly don't care if they stay or go but they usually disrupt my viewing pleasure as they make no attempt to crouch as they pass in front of me - inconsiderate bunch of *#@%?!!

Alas, I have come to the end of my intended rant. If you've been a victim then I'm sure you can relate to this article. If you have other annoying things people (not necessarily Nigerians) do in the movie theaters then please spill the magic beans wink
I found the cellphone part very annoying. To make matters worse...the guy I went with was the one talking so loudly, I felt like take the phone and smashing it. Just told him he was disturbing everyone.

Depends on where you want to live.
Also which one will give you more job satisfaction.

If you want to live in Naija, take the naija job.
If you want to live in Europe, take the European one, don't look at the cost as it is only a stepping stone.

They should have resolved the issue long before now.
If they are not happy with how much they were offered compared to Psquare, they should blame their agents who negotiated their price.
As it stands, their pride is stopping them from making money when they probably have nothing else lined up for that time slot.

pauloman: Thanks once again for this piece ! I wonder where deniyor gets his information from? He seems to spew contrary facts of what i know about Canada and moreso Ontario. From what i know Canadian economy was to a large extent immune from the world recession and was not badly hit like the USA or UK economies so i do not know where your assertions are from @ deniyor
LIke I wrote, you can check the statistics. And please don't tell me the Canadian economy was immune from the recession. There are many who felt it deep enough to know what it meant to be in recession. I know many job seekers and people who graduated in the recession and what they faced.
Read the news, check the canadian govt website, The canadian economy was very well impacted by the recession. It is mostly recovered now though.

And to answer you on where I get my assertions from. I have lived/schooled/worked in 9 cities (including ontario) across 4 provinces in the last 10 years. I have had my share of the recession - having graduated right in it. I felt the recession, felt what it means not to have jobs, and lose the ones you have. So spare me the talk of no recession in canada.

ifegy: Well, it's important to have a balanced view of these things. There are so many factors to consider when looking at the employment picture in Canada. As mentioned earlier, if you're looking for a position in Oil and Gas or mining, then by all means head to Alberta and Saskatchewan respectively, or even the Northwest Territories or Northern Ontario, as you will be more likely to find what you want there. If you're interested in the tech industry, then perhaps Waterloo, Ontario, with its tech cluster might work for you. If you want financial services, then Bay Street in Toronto, Ontario is a better choice than St John's, Newfoundland. If you want salmon fishing, then Vancouver might work better for you. If you want construction, well, there are more high rises going up in Toronto than almost anywhere else in the world so that might work for you. If you want to work in a French environment, then head to Quebec. Federal government? Ottawa's probably best. Just ensure you're bilingual. Farming? Take your pick on the provinces. And so on.

In Ontario, from personal experience, there are people (including immigrants) I know with very good professional jobs, as well as those looking for jobs, and those who have gone to other provinces for jobs, or even personal/lifestyle preference.

Just to give some perspective, the Ontario economy is almost three times that of Alberta, so it might take a while for both economies to change places.

Having said that, it's a free country. Do your research, get a balanced view, and make your choice where you want to end up.
Good points. Where in Canada are you located?

Beautifl. U submitted on the 4th. Dt means 1st week of sept are already getting med invitatns. Plz update us if there r other requirements as soon as u collect ur invitn, bt I pray u won't have any other reqment.

4 ppl dt say u can't buy clothing in naija 4 saskc, my guy there come back to naija for shopping. Says its very expensive there. He gets it at OK- hope u know what dt means( okrika)
I'm not saying you can't find winter clothing in naija. Problem is it is mostly likely going to be a waste as most of them wont be able to handle -45c weather. You can find cheap jackets in Saskatchewan too but don't expect them to last more than one or two winters. Those cost btw $20 to $60.
However if you shell out $150+ for a quality winter jacktet, it will last you for years till you decide to upgrade based on style.
If you are low on cash, try one of the thrift stores or liquidation stores. You may find quality then for much cheaper.

earthgreeners: Ontario is to Canada, As Lagos is to Nigeria

deniyor, u are wrong......
What does that mean in terms of employment? Statistics Canada show Ontario has the highest unemployment (Nunavut really doesn't count). A simple google search will also show Ontario is the province with the most red and a crippling economy. This is despite canada having picked itself up from the recession. Of course, based on population, ontario has the highest GDP. But based on recent trends, Alberta is well poised to over Ontario as the economic hub of Canada.

Based on stories I've heard from people living there, people lose their jobs discriminately. Those same jobs are reposted out and at a lower pay than before. They know they can do that since there are many people willing to get that job even at a lower pay. People will about do anything to hang on to their jobs cos there is almost nothing out there. Yet immigrants keep rushing to Ontario (esp Toronto) and it just gets worse. Shine your eyes people!

You know how the US say the economy is really bad, the unemployment rate is 7.9%. In Ontario, it is 8.4%. Canada as a whole is 7.4%.
As a result, people moved in drones from Ontario to Saskatchewan and Alberta. Saskatchewan used to have the easiest provincial immigration nominee program (SINP). To combat the employment and immigration issues as a result of the mass movement, SINP has become one of the toughest provincial nominee programs since June 2012.

pauloman: @deniyor,
That was no insult,it only means you made a statement without proper facts to back it up.
lol ok, I thought it meant i was yarning rubbish. Eitherways, many people rush to Ontario only to discover it is much harder to find jobs there. And the few jobs available are at cut throat wages.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by deniyor:
ifegy: To clarify, if you are looking for a job in natural resources (eg mining, oil and gas), then Saskatchewan (mining) or Alberta (oil and gas) would probably suit you better. However, Ontario remains by far the largest economy in Canada, by GDP, and the Ontario economy is almost double the size of the next largest, Quebec. Alberta is the 3rd largest; British Columbia is 4th, and Saskatchewan is 5th. The service sector (eg financial services) is very strong in Ontario. It is also the largest manufacturing province. It does have some mining (in Northern Ontario), but not oil and gas.
You can have a look at the Statistics Canada website for more information on provincial economies across Canada(eg http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tableaux/sum-som/l01/cst01/econ15-eng.htm).
pauloman: @ifegy

Thanks for correcting deniyor on his" tua tua" yarns abt Ontario. Ontario by far has the most vibrant economy in Canada !
Well, as we are talking in terms of jobs, lets talk about numbers that also matter - Unemployment.
Take a further look at the statistics canada website, and you will discover that ontario has about 8.3% unemployment while saskatchewan has 4.7% unemployment. For the record, the average unemployment rate is 7.4% in canada as a whole. Put it in perspective, it has the second highest unemployment in canada behind nunavut! If you know the layout of canada, nothing should be compared to nunavut!
Look deeper and you will realise that ontario is billions in debt while saskatchewan govt is the only one with a balanced budget and NOT in red.
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/121102/t121102a003-eng.htm

@pauloman,
Its okay to disagree with me but you need not be insulting about it.

bro whats up with ontario..huh
The ontario economy is in the tank right now. Hard to find a job, and two many people fighting for the few jobs left.
THere is a slow mass migration from ontario to Alberta and Saskatchewan at the moment.

My family applied for canadian skilled worker PR in 2009.submitted a whole lot of documents and each time i checked the online status it always says IN PROCESS! Well we got tired of waiting and moved to dublin ireland early this year. Just 2days ago,i got a mail from canadian immigration requesting for updates, original certificates marriage, birth and right of permanent residency fee, they are giving us 60 days to comply else they will assume we r no longer intrested. Out of curiosity ,i went to check the online status same day and it says DECISION MADE. Na wao i come tire. What does it mean abeg? Approval abi what? If yes, please advice me.....do u think canada is better than ireland in this present economy?? I mean in every ramification. Do u think i should pursue the canadian Pr or just forget it? Ireland so far is good..compared to where we were.just that the tax system is drving me insane, but between ireland and canada....my pple compare abeg and advice sincerely. Thanks
I will say pursue the canadian PR. Canada is quite accepting and a friendly place to live for immigrants. The economy is booming at the time (well except for ontario)

I don't mind going to new places. I like historical sites or places with a nice story to go with it - something memorable.

It depends on what classes you are taking. Average amount of each class (3 credits) is $1400. Ten classes is $14, 000. Plus student fees of about $500. You could say some accommodation is included in the amount you mentioned. Minimum for full time studies is 18 credits- $8, 400.. That should cover all your accommodation costs.
