Millionjeff:You want to buy a vw transporter pick up at N50k? That is less than 200 USD...because it is an old model? Happy searching |
Been through the whole thread. My observations: @sopperrescue, when the car arrived, did you conduct a diagnosis on the vehicle to determine possible errors? It is possible for imported engine oil to be expensive if bought from extra middle men or if imported via air freight and via expensive couriers like DHL. It gets more expensive if they are bought in one litre bottles. @op. I feel your pain and I respect how you have tabled the points as they happened. You wanted your car fixed and from all indications, it seems it has not been totally fixed. However, I would state the following from my own observations and experience. First, you took the car to Abeokuta in limp mode, went to many other places etc. Limp home mode is supposed to get you to the mechanic and not for interstate strips over a long period. Secondly, if a car is in limp mode, there would be an error code which your mechanic can detect with a professional diagnostic tool. I await @sopperrescue's response to this as stated above. The codes will guide the Mech on repair procedures. In addition, depending on the damage to the tranny, replacement of filters, valve body, solenoids etc could actually cure the limp or a total tranny replacement could be needed. From all indications, it seems you might need a new tranny and not just an oil change. Original spark plugs are expensive. The main cost is not the plugs themselves but the cost of forex and shipping. Same as oi. Benz lifetime ATF is around N4,000 per quart here in Lagos. I just got 10 litres for a customer. That is N40,000 excluding transport cost. I still await sopperrescue's detailed repair work schedule on the car stating the exact processes he followed. However, I would plead with you OP to just find time to fix your car. After all, it is your car and as you said, very important to your business. I am willing to offer a free diagnosis and forensic evaluation of the car if you are interested. I will post pictures here and I must warn you, I will be very objective. Thanks all |
vicstar16:Horsepower ko, horse shit ni. Did the colour of the car improve too? Some kid in China decides he needs a new apartment and creates a dongle that fits into a cigarette lighter inbuilt with a flashy led light and sells it to people like you and you buy it? Abeg....just move on. Fuel economy ko, Burkina Faso economy ni. You too reason am....not everything in life be jazz...most injuries are self inflicted |
Kashif:If you were slighted about my utterances, I apologise. I am not always that edgy. No one disputes the fact that little differences would not exist even within the same AW4 over the years. There was the renix era and the GMC era....pre OBD and OBD etc. Even as relates to hardware, output shafts, bell housings, filters, pans etc could be different. A transmission rebuilder with experience in handling both the AW4 and the a3XX series would know that you can rebuild either with either. Let's move on please |
If you are a bannable commodity, I now understand why... Lol |
Kashif:If you belong to 100 space orbiting scientific associations, who e don epp? I don't state facts without references. That's why I show screenshots. Your associations would be disappointed in you to know you don't know the history of aisin and you don't know about the versatility of the AW4 The basic ordinary spare parts dealer in Ladipo knows that the aw4 internals go straight into the A340....that is why the AW4 is currently expensive in Nigeria...more expensive than the engine. Yes, I learn from Google (like almost everyone here on cartalk). In addition, i learn from others who dont boast about the number of nuclear bombs they have successfully swallowed with a cup of water. Have you heard of people who learnt how to read from home? Not every great lawyer must be an Harvard graduate. If I list parts here, how would you be certain I did not do a simple Google search? Let's focus on the facts of the matter and don't digress into unnecessary bickering. Thanks |
Kashif:Pinion? I said they share the same internals....the only difference is the bell housing. Do you know what a bell housing is?...the cover dude. I will post the Google search picture again on aisin.
|
Kashif:This is for your knowledge. The A34X series share the same internals with the AW4... Only difference is the bell housing. I guess you would not know since you have never handled both transmissions apart from on Google search Aisin Transmission is different from Aisin Warner? Another picture to add to your knowledge PS; don't come fighting with half baked research next time.

peterjero:Thanks for your observations. You are right about engine design/management affecting the overall durability and longevity of an automobile system. Manufacturers are not always perfect; biodegradability of the Mercedes Benz harness, K series engine in the Rover, Nikasil incident in BMW etc all come to mind. However like all component manufacturers including Siemens, Bosch, FoMoCo etc, there are bound to be good times and bad times. In the case of Aisin, the AW4 was one of their 'very good products'. These engines and trannies were very easy to work on and fix. The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) was so good, it was usually crushed with the car in USA since there was hardly a demand for replacement. Cheers |
kogirodent:Yes. I am waiting as well |
The winners would be announced on worker's day. Thanks for the anticipation |
Jazzlite:Now you have your thread. It is at the following link https://www.nairaland.com/3075564/reliability-cherokee-jeep-transmission. I await your gusto...we await your gusto |
Whist surfing the Autos section of Nairaland, I came across an advert for a grand Cherokee which was offered for sale (https://www.nairaland.com/3075067/1995-grand-cherokee-sale-n650000). I opened it and went through. A moniker on NL went straight to ridicule the car. These are his/her exact words: Jazzlite:I responded to his outburst and told him that contrary to his opinion, the AW4 transmission was a sturdy and rock solid transmission which had same variants used in the Toyota Supra and Toyota 4 Runner of the 90s. To be objective, these were my words: Denn:In his response, he claimed I was telling lies and would pull tear my analysis to shreds if I opened another thread. Despite my further reply, he insisted on another thread. Therefore, I decided to open this thread for us to both defend our claims on the aw4 transmission designed by aisin Warner and installed in the Jeep Cherokee and many Toyotas for over 20 years. |
Jazzlite:It's not derailing...you claimed a car for sale is bad and your are currently at the cleaners. You call me a liar? For the benefit of all, state the lies I just made. Until you do so,you are simply ignorant and with a loud mouth. Stop opening those speakers to spoil other people's market. |
Jazzlite:If you are not buying, simply don't comment. Have you heard of the AW4 transmission? That's the same tranny in a Toyota Supra and a Toyota 4 Runner of the 90s era ....that's the same tranny in this car. The tranny was in production for over 20 years...does that tell you something? The parts are at every where they sell American car parts...if your mechanic cannot find it, you need a new Mech....and oh...a Mech who does know how to adjust the TPS with a simple multimeter and not those who cannot send simple text messages. If you need it and want to buy it, best is to negotiate... Don't try to bully the seller. Don't always try to sound smart when there is a vacuum on the subject PS: I have no association with the seller. |
JaraExtra:Is it still available? Location pls. Thanks |
cyberguy72:Your point has no economic basis. First, the demand for yuan will increase whilst the demand for USD will decrease. This will lead to an increase in the price of yuan in the short term and cause a rapid decline in the price of USD. I expect speculative holders of the USD to sell off in the coming weeks. In the mid term, the demand for USD would have eased to the point that the difference in price (parallel vs official) would have reduced to manageable levels. Do not forget that around 70% of business demand for the USD is actually for fund routings to China. If we take at least 50% of the economic USD demand away, we would have a manageable USD FXR. It would make sense if banks now allow us to open domiciliary accounts in yuan and allow yuan denominated MasterCard with unlimited transaction abilities. It would make more sense if businesses can easily apply for forex and open LCs in Yuan. This is the first great thing this government has done. |
hurricaneChris:wrong. you have forgotten that once the demand for the USD goes down, it would not sell for 320 again. In fact, i predict that the naira will appreciate against the USD in the next 48 hours... watch this space |
Who was responsible for the 0 megawatts recorded few weeks ago? I suspect witch hunting. |
Exactly 13 months after I bought a 2013 Kia Rio brand new from Dana motors, my car battery packed up. The battery stopped working suddenly; no drainage symptoms nothing. I drove to the barbing saloon and had to rent a battery to start the car. So I took the car to Dana motors. I was told warranty ended the previous month and I had to pay for a new battery. After much fighting which yielded no result, I agreed to pay for the battery, I was billed around 30k. I assumed it would be OEM due to the price. Lo and behold, when I got delivery of my car after 24 hours for installation, it was a common Chinese battery that was buyable from.any Street trader at 10,000 then. The dealerships in Nigeria are different from the ones in UK or even ordinary south Africa. Oh....I almost forgot... My first car, a Honda accord 1990 model. I drove to Honda Place along Apapa road and asked for a vehilce service. The customer service guy told me that they don't work on such cars and if I don't mind, he will give me the number of his own mechanic. The double core radiators we have in Ladipo and other markets do a good job of cooling. They are Chinese but they work. They don't affect the engine operating temperature but do a good job of increasing the surface available for heat dissipation.....and they don't cost half of the value of the car |
baddooski:I have never checked his profile picture before and I must commend his wife's beauty. But bros, do you go about checking profile picture on NL? This is cartalk o and not romance section. Caveat emptor Lol |
Siena:I doubt elizade or RT briscoe stocks parts of vehicles above 10 years...apart from filters and spark plugs. I could be wrong though. One thing I am sure of is that these dealerships in Nigeria are stealerships... Ford Briscoe sold basic motocraft engine oil filter for a ford Explorer at N4,000 when USD was N195. I wonder how much it would be now that USD has gone up. The filter actually costs around 3 USD on Amazon. I won't be surprised if Briscoe sells the radiator at N100,000 which is 25% of the car value. This is why most purchases are either from Ladipo parts market.... Either aftermarket or from used imports. |
Siena:The OP wants to change his leaking radiator. The current OEM radiator which is a single core is not available for purchase. The model available for purchase is the radiator with double core...aftermarket. OP was concerned if his engine will not get optimal thermal efficiency with a double cell radiator. There is brand new double core radiators that fit the particular Toyota and works flawlessly. Engine temperature remains optimal. |
UncleGb:If an automedics guy actually said this (point 1), then he is totally economical with the truth. A radiator is part of the cooling system and not the only part of the cooling system. |
There is an error I have noticed in the postulations on radiators. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a double cell radiator. In fact, I will advise you use a double cell radiator asap. My facts are stated below; The operating temperature of the engine is not determined by the size of the radiator but the opening temperature of the thermostat. In fact if your radiator is as big as a geepee tank, as long as your thermostat is Installed and it opens as when due, your engine will run at an optimal temperature. The problem with radiator size comes into play if : *your thermostat has been deleted. *your cooling fan is not operating at default setting *there is a problem with any other component in the cooling system. Double cell radiators enhance the speed at which the coolant gets cooled since it offers more surface area for the air to pass over. With our high ambient temperature, we need double cell (or even triple cell) radiators as a cooling system upgrade. Do not delete your thermostat no matter what you do. If your car cannot cool with the thermostat in place, there is a problem. Thanks Cc orex |

good morning all details upcoming in the next post. warmest regards |
ataspray:How much do you want him to sell a Nigerian used w124 especially if it was possibly inherited and the current owner need quick cash? If you buy a cheap car, be ready to spend money and time fixing it. Your friend's car would have given symptoms... Your friend was not just savvy enough to pick up the signals and take corrective actions.... Possibly low engine oil pressure indicator, knocking sound, poor idling etc. He possibly do not even check the engine oil level and started driving from ikot ekpene to birin kebbi. I am not soliciting for the seller...i don't even know him but I will speak the truth. You want to buy a 170k car that is possibly older than you and expect it not to require some fixing? |
Bros Something showing GB on the plate and you are saying it's not Great Britain. What is it then? Gai Buhari? Which country is it from if not UK? Car looks clean. However, full disclosure is required. I will not comment on the engine series adopted in the rover 75. |
Why buy used brake pads? Why destroy a working brake system so you can buy used pads? Change your spare part dealers. PS: can you buy used sanitary pads too? |
HandsomeChris:'sell motor' 'sell motor' Your ability to communicate properly needs some dry-cleaning. I can only imagine you seated on your student mattress, typing with your oil-stained thumbs on the second-hand infinix phone you bought from your neighbour that constantly needs to be plugged either to a power-bank or a wall charger, as the battery's soul has returned to the manufacturer's heaven. You try to form big, but deep down, you know you are not only small, but microscopic- a reflection of a squashed amoeba, trodden upon constantly by the reality of life. Battered from all angles, you have decided to retreat into the confines of your little room and fight from the war screen of your infinix phone, seated on the dirty and flattened out remnant that was once a mattress. You create a new nairaland moniker and lash out at every person you suspect is sane. 'How can they be sane when you are insane?' you ask. You fire on and on and on....until etisalat's free megabytes get exhausted...then you wake up again....only as usual...as a squashed amoeba which you are. |
HandsomeChris:if the Lilliputian behind this day-old moniker is a representative of COZA, i feel so glad i am not a member. Upon all the 'teachings', this is the only verbose that can come from you? Pastor Biodun would never associate with you in private, let alone in public...even the 'outcast' Ese comports better than you |
