RomanceRe: Ladies, What Do You Do If You See This Message On Your Fiance's Phone? by Dentale(f): 6:13pm On Oct 26, 2015
Lolll na todayhuh!!! grin grin grin What about the ones that strip naked and swear? Some people take things to the extreme when situations don't go their way. It may be a simple break up I.e. It's been fun but I'm sorry I can't be with you anymore as I'm ready to settle down with someone I love". It happens! People should learn to move on without cursing! If men were cursing us too, it will be worse o. Cos some girls are not smiling when it comes to using and dumping guys. I said some, not all. Even if the guy was truly cruel about it, why curse?

Op, this is a non issue. The lady has a right to find out the backstory but it's not enough to stop the wedding proceedings. Look carefully and this same curser may keep pinging the guy later to "remain friends" smh
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Experience Today As An Applicant. by Dentale(f): 6:03pm On Oct 26, 2015
OP I salute your determination! Imagine, less than one month post NYSC and you're not taking it easy at all. Your hardwork will be rewarded. I couldn't help laughing at some parts though. Loll. Cold calls usually don't work for job searches o. Please rest your feet dear. As some have mentioned, practice and keep practicing aptitude tests. Apply to as many companies as you can online. At least with a 2.1, your options are somewhat less restricted. Also referrals help too. Talk to your friends, family, neighbours, Church or Mosque members and spread the word that you're looking for a job. You never know where the opportunities will come from. All in all don't give up. Keep pushing and you'll reach your goals. God speed!

Hi Justwise, is it possible to distinguish reviews from advertising? For example, if a mum (or expecting mum) is using or has recently used a Doctor and Hospital, o think it's fair to give the reviews openly with costs too. On the other hand, if anyone finds a good deal but hasn't used them, it may be seen as advertisement. I understand it will be difficult to distinguish them but we've got to try. I have been scrolling for some pages back and we're still on this issue. It's distracting from the purpose of this thread really. Kudos to all those who have shared their visa interview and entry stories in the midst of it all. Kindly consider this. I used Doctor esparati on my first delivery and it was a fabulous experience. But not everyone can/wants to go to El Paso. The freedom of choice matters especially as I don't see any other hospital or agent advertising at rhe moment.

I'm also not sure how it will sit with the Admin if a duplicate thread is opened and then everyone here migrates there. Although we have a right to freedom of information and expression, I forsee a situation where that thread will be "suppressed"

I understand the point to ure making o. Business is Business but at same time.

Looking forward to coming back here sometime later and seeing that we've all moved on from the arguments and counter arguments on a positive note. Wishing all the October/November mamas a safe delivery ahead.

On another note, it's actually true that this thread shows as the first two results when you Google "giving birth in USA", before rhe wiki page. Lol. I experimented with a number of public PCs and friends phones, it was the same. I'm not in Nigeria at the moment. I think it's a good thing for Nairaland though.

Choi!!! Nigerians can argue for Africa sha! grin grin. No be fight! OP never claimed to know it all. Rather he asked for informed opinions to strengthen the write up. There's no need to be boiling because your tribe is portrayed differently from what you think or how it really is. Someone even claims OP came to glorify Urhobo. Lol. Let's learn to state our points logically without recourse to disguised insults and condescending talk.

@ OP, this was refreshing to read. Nice write up. Thanks also to everyone who has improved on the write up by giving their points of view in a non combative manner.

Urhobo Wado!

FamilyRe: What Kind Of Food Can One Give An Under-weight Picky Eater Toddler? by Dentale(f): 12:21am On Oct 18, 2015
OP I have a toddler too. About same age as urs. Please for now, don't place too much emphasis on what's healthy or not. Eating fries won't make him obese if he grows up to be an active child. It won't clog his young arteries either. I've seen fellow parents unintentionally underfeeding their kids cos they were counting good and bad calories. Let him eat cake if he likes it. Let him sit at the table when u or other family members are eating. It may help to get him curious and taste more options. All the best
FamilyRe: End of story. by Dentale(f): 12:13am On Oct 18, 2015
Late to the party.

@OP, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say watch your back. So many red flags in the story and explanations. Be careful. Some scenarios were just too weird to be innocent. I don't believe the explanations at all but that's just my 2 kobo opinion. You appeared to be so afraid of a breakup that you were willing to lean towards anything that will preserve this relationship even though it may not be worth preserving. All I can say at this point is that I truly wish u the best as you're a trusting fellow. I hope you won't come back with Part 2 of this story before or after the wedding.
Cheers

chimchim1: thank you very much. i am on the site right now and its really helpful
You can also check West Boca Medical Centre in Boca Raton in South Florida. They often deal with international patients. Website is http://www.westbocamedctr.com/en-US/Pages/default.aspx. They have a one day package plan for under $2000 but i think it excludes epidural/anaesthetist services. It also excludes the OBGYN and Paediatrician fees. You can give them a call for details of the total package.

tteam: hi house
good to know everyone is doing great.
i traveled to Houston on the 5t of October ad wast let in.
Even after showing my payments to west Houston and declaring how much i had.
Their reason was that i lied i was not pregnant during my visa interview.
had the most horrifying experience ever.
i am back in Nigeria now, thank God i and baby are safe.
apart fro me, two other 9ja ladies were set back too.

learning point: state preg stats when applying for visa, if u already have a visa then by all means avoid Houston. there are devils there searching out for black preg women.
wishing everyone goodluck wit their plans
So sorry to hear this! It must have been traumatic. It's insane to turn you back for such a flimsy reason despite showing your financial independence. No matter what is said now to comfort you, one can only imagine how you feel. I hope you were not alone heading back? Anyways, try to get some rest and focus on your baby now. Here's wishing you a safe delivery.

uchetobi: Well you can change it to your husband's name but you will need to go to abuja to do that. Its an entirely new document...last i heard it is about 55k. If you do that your visa will still be valid. You will just need to go with your change if name document to present at that airport or poe to show you are the same person.

If you dont change it....u can still do all your baby document without wahala. Do you think its every married woman even abroad that take their husband's name. What of pple that have kids and are not married? Wont their baby get passport?

If your passport is still valid....dont bother till it expires. My two cents
Thanks a lot Uche. My hubby and I renewed our visas as a couple.. with different surnames. This is notwithstanding the fact that my name was legally changed prior to the application. We made the decision to go with my maiden name since I was not ready for the hassle of getting a new passport in Abuja when my old passport is still valid. The Consular did not even bat an eyelid. Oyinbo people don't send that level at all. My baby's documentation will bear my maiden name as well. It's still me smiley.. Forevermine, you could go ahead with your maiden name as well, considering everything.
TV/MoviesRe: Olympus Has Fallen Vs White House Down: Which Is Better? by Dentale(f): 4:19pm On Sep 06, 2013
I wondered how the makers of White House Down must have felt when Olympus was released a few months before their movie... especially knowing that it was better cheesy

For me, it's Olympus Has Fallen. There were so many "unbelievable" scenes in both movies but I couldn't get over the image of Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum (or Presido and Commando) being chased around on the white house lawn with the US Military watching them like home video without attempting a serious intervention. Come on! That was the final straw for me.

nikkygal: @Mrs Bee good to know you landed safe & sound. . . smiley I have a colleague that also had her baby in the US & he was circumcised but it wasn't done properly and they had to come and re-do it in Nigeria. She was also told the same thing about circumciosion not being properly done over there. A lot of people later recommended that the Jewish people are the best at it and next time she should get them to do the circumcision.

@Nenih try using google. . . . Most times people always wait to get direct info. from others which is okay however, you could get even better deals just by doing some extra research yourself. Look for hospitals in the dallas/arlington area and try contacting them via phone calls or e-mails. . .you'll probably get some good info and deals. A friend of mine got a hospital like that around arlington but she's not aaround now, i'll have gotten the infor from her for you. Wishing you the very best!!!

Honestly, this thread is soooooo informative ehn. . . . lol! Am sure some 'guests' have their mats spread on this thread, just soaking up all the info. . .cheesy
My sister had the same experience with my nephew's circumcision last year in Maryland. The lil one had to get a "makeover" when they returned to Nigeria. Thanks for the advice on Jewish folks.

You're right, sometimes we find it more reassuring (and faster)to hear real experiences than googling them so I can relate with the mat spreading cheesy.

I'm still searching for a hospital in Chicago. Anyone with information, please holla asap.

uchetobi: If your spouse meets the condition you won't be interviewed either, at least that's the info on The visa website. see below:

Spouses and children under 18 years of age may qualify to apply with parents renewing their visas even if the spouse or children do not meet the above conditions. Please note, however, that children over 18 years must apply independently of their parents even if they are traveling together
Let me rephrase. If your spouse had a full validity visa and you didn't or you had a visa that was not full validity, you can apply alongside your spouse for a renewal since your spouse's visa will "cover" for you(Ideally you ought to have made a new application since you did not meet the conditions of a renewal). However, you both cannot use drop box unless you both had a full validity visa. This means that your spouse who could have used drop box if he/she was renewing alone will have to attend an interview with you (it is still a renewal but you will be interviewed whereas with drop box, you don't go through an interview)
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Dentale(f): 1:17pm On Sep 03, 2013
Babababy: Hello @surety,Good luck in your endeavors over their, and good luck in your cash payment ,I believe that is the best chance you will have in renewing your visa ,make sure you try and pay all bills. And about the visa drop box option, @nikkygal is right am afraid, sorry to burst you bubbles. Drop box option is for applicants with previous 2 year multiple entry visa. The only way you could participate in the drop box option,is if your husband had a previous 2 year multiple and you can renew yours along side his own application. Your best option for verifying the info is the American Embassy website in Nigeria. Follow the link below.

http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/mobile/niv_renewals.html
I wish you the best Surety. Just to add to Babababy's post, not only do you require a 2 year visa to use the drop box option, also if you are renewing with a spouse that has a 2 year visa, both of you will be interviewed. So no drop box either. Drop box will be valid if you both had a full validity visa within 12 months or less from the stated expiry date. I know this because hubby and I had our visas renewed a month ago in Lagos and the whole process was explained in detail to us.

Check this website http://www.westhoustonbirthcenter.com/. They have a number you can call and discuss self-pay rates. All the best!
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Dentale(f): 11:19am On Sep 03, 2013
nikkygal: @Uchetobi . . Am not sure someone with a 3-month validity visa qualifies for the drop-box system. I stand to be corrected though but to the best of my knowledge, you're only qualified for dropbox if you're renewing a full 2-yr validity visa. Otherwise, you're back to one-on-one interviews. Abeg someone should correct me if am wrong oh, before am accused of spreading false information. . .cheesy
You're right. Drop box only applies to those with a full 2-year validity visa. I suggest Surety attempts to raise some more funds from friends/family in Nigeria and the US to fully settle her bills before leaving. It should make things a bit easier during her next visa interview.

@Tobiojo, Congratulations! How're you and your baby? I hope you are eventually able to negotiate a good discount on your bill.

@aldehyde, Starafricababy and Bamakoe, I wish you all a stress-free trip and safe delivery. I'll be waiting for how it goes. I'm not due until next year and I'm still looking for a hospital in Atlanta or Chicago where I have more family and friends though I won't be staying with them, just for moral support. Initially I was thinking Atlanta but now I have added Chicago... I know grin.

Does anyone here know about all inclusive self-pay rates for hospitals in Chicago and Atlanta? Names of hospitals? Website?

starafricababy: Hello Forum members! Thank you for all your help with your valuable information. I am contributing my feedback since I found invaluable all the information I found on this forum and wish to add to the value that this thread offers to all.

I have just registerred in El Paso, TX, first because of the recommendations provided on this website, and second because of my research with regard to Doctores Para Ti and Maricoma specifically since these seem to be the prevailing clinics. I will note that my prefference my be different than others since the reasons for my decision may not have the same importance to other members.

Communication. When I contacted both places either by telephone or email, El Paso seemed to respond to my telephone/email immediately. Maricoma was very difficult talking or getting back a response by email.
Doctors. I was informed that Phoenix worked with resident doctors and El Paso with private doctors.
Specialized Service. The service offerred at Phoenix was "as is", I was a bit more attracted by a El Paso given that, as many have pointed out, it is package that is specialized for international patients.
Quality. I looked up both hospitals on Healthgrades.com. Maricoma, had 1 star in maternity services (lowest rating) and Del Sol Medical Center, the hospital for Doctores para ti, had 5 stars in maternity services (highest rating).

Healthgrades.com
Maricoma http://www.healthgrades.com/hospital-directory/arizona-az/maricopa-medical-center-hgst020b7b36030022#Ratings

Del Sol Medical http://www.healthgrades.com/hospital-directory/texas-tx-central/del-sol-medical-center-hgst193bc8b6450646#Ratings

As I mentioned this was only -my- criteria and other members may have their own criteria. I have enrolled and will be back to post my experience once my baby is born in November.
Good research. Well done!

One of my options is to use the same hospital around February/March next year as well and will be looking to get an apartment home since my Mum will be coming with me. Let's discuss further, perhaps I can be fully convinced. The weather is a pro for sure (Nigeria like). All in all, I'm still a bit undecided. I wish I could get a similar package in Houston or Atlanta since there are direct flights from Nigeria to those cities and I know more people there.

@Opribo, you're kidding right?? Beheading? For being single?? Na wa oo. I'm torn between laughing out loud at your jokes (hoping they are jokes) and wondering whether you ACTUALLY think that way,  And whether you're alone in that kind of thinking,

@Topic. Yes, I wanna get married someday. Sooner rather than later. I believe in the power of words. Truth is, after building up your career and travelling the world and all, it feels good to share share your life with someone special. And no, I don't see marriage as a status symbol neither do I see it as a proof of maturity. A married fool is still a fool. Someone mentioned earlier that marriage should be a celebration of love. Seconded!

Hi Guys, Ex-Inferis,

Howdy? I need help again with my phone.

First, it has suddenly stopped detecting wifi networks. And when it does, I get an error message saying "Cannot join, network"

Secondly, I would like to upgrade to the 3.0 firmware or at least the 2.2. I am currently running 2.1.(It's a 3G)

Could you please take me through a step by step process on how to achieve this? The phone is unlocked and jail broken so I would need to repeat the process after the upgrade, I presume. Also, I'ld appreciate it if you could tell me how to back up all my stuff (contacts, media and apps) just in case it all goes wrong according to Murphy's law.

Thanks,

Gents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eureka! My phone has been successfully pimped!!!!!!! smiley smiley smiley Thanks Ex Inferis. You're a genius. You heard it from me. And thanks to you too Naijafan. As you guys said, I removed all the previously instaled cracked apps that wont open and then I downloaded a free app from the iTunes store and synchronised my phone. Afterwards, I did a reboot and synchronised again, this time, selecting all the apps (including the cracked ones). Then, I rebooted again. This time, voila!!! They all launched successfully!!!

Meanwhile, I kept receiving a prompt to upgrade to 2.2. Is this a No No? Considering that my phone is jailbroken?

Secondly, I used my credit card to register with iTunes but when I was getting the free app, the notice was something like "Purchasing application". Hope its actually free and they wouldnt later on charge my credit card? Pls lemme know. Thanks again,
PhonesRe: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by Dentale(f): 11:26am On Dec 18, 2008
Honestly, I cannot clearly remember if I rebooted or not. However, I've rebooted several times since synchronizing the phone yet no dice. Do I go ahead to remove all the apps, remove the patch and start again? Also, someone told me that I need to get at least one app from the iTunes store before it can be successfully opened on my phone. Please is this true? Thanks,

One more thing, when I tried to download those odd games from Cydia, it launched successfully.
