can we start this UNITY thing from somewhere please!!!!!!!!!!!! A step at a time. and let us look into the far future. The blocks we are building is not for us but for generation yet unborn. I don't want my great-grand children to be discussing issues i discussed all my life. |
shevron funny yoruba man, |
well you might not have so much choices in Nigeria. Just take advantage of where you are right now and tailor it to your dreams. |
Were you told about payment before you accepted the offer? Are you learning anything at all in NNPC? I think that should be more of concern to you right now. I have colleagues doing internship here in the UK at masters level and are not being paid a dime. |

Patricia Daboh I found this post to be funny. I spent two weeks in Lagos, Nigeria on my honeymoon, and I must admit, I had never seen anything like it. The okadas swirving in and out of traffic, the aggressive drivers, fumes from the buses, which by the way I was told were called MOVING COFFINS; and the lack of any sense of order--except to get where you are going THE BEST WAY YOU CAN--added to my amazement. Why in the world would you go to lagos for HONEYMOON? Well the advantage of lagos driving , especially the one-way is that when you travel to UK , you don't have problem crossing the road. In lagos you are already used to looking at both sides of the road before crossing, ![]() |

blueband Sorry, thought you were talking of Nigeria.Yes my friends who went to America are killing it.You are right.in America doctors earn more. But not the 300k you are talking for starters. After residency they get like 150k/PA.Which is what you can get here in the UK.But they have more purchasing power than we do.I work in the UK too and i know that you probably pay 40% of that earnigns as tax, pay about £800-1000/ month on rent, pay sky , pay for phone, pay council tax etc or what do you think? |
@blue band We are too pre-occupied with titles(my son is a doctor,I am an Engineer,I am an Accountant) in Nigeria. In the west,no one cares what you do for a living,as long as it is legal. With the dearth of plumbers, many city workers are retraining and becoming plumbers to make a killing.Call a plumber at night and you will understand why professionals in the UK are retraining to become a plumber.Escorts(Ashewos) -that is a moral issue.I can't do that. And it is totally different from cabbing my friend.Until we drop the mentality of paper qualification over technical know how we will never move forward as nation.I heard on this forum that tony elumelu made a third class.Yet he runs one of Nigeria's biggest banks. In the Western world,Universities will be jumping over themselves to get him to lecture their MBA students. And ofcourse he will be paid handsomely, third class or no third class. The real problem is most nigerian are pre-occupied with the MONEY issue. I am an engineer and it is a profession i have always dreamt of. I am not one of the best paid engineers , but i love what i do. I can only hope earn more but my first love is what i do. Don't forget that a taxi cab driver will always be a taxi cab driver. As a professional you climb up the ladder in life |
just wait for some time before you make touch her, you will most likely take advantage of her if you do anything even if she gives you the nod to go ahead. she is not in total control of all her decisions right now. |
@mr blueband Believe it my friend. There are many Nigerian doctors,PHD holders,Engineers cabbing in the UK.By the way,for your information a black cab driver earns more than the average medical doctor here. There income is around the region of £80,000-£100,000/Per Annumn for the ones that actually own the cabs.I visited a black cab driver the other day at home.He had a five bedroom duplex in Bromley.I asked him how much he earned-he told me on the average he makes about £300 daily.Just a trip from Canary Wharf to Central London in a black cab can cost upto £30.The hospital I work with have a retainership with a cab company so we can use for patient home visits.Just yesterday I took a cab and the bill was £36.I am seriously considering becoming a cabby myself, doctor or no doctor!do you know also that "escorts" or better still "ashawo " earn about £200/hour in the UK. You can consider your girlfriend trying it. Rubbish , so because of money you want to drop your degree and become a taxi driver |
I am ok with the idea if only the building will not be filled with traffic offenders,one-way drivers, wicked lecturers , 419 bankers , pal greasing civil servants, 20naira policemen , oil bunkering military personnel, passport racketring imigration officers etc |
i wanted to cross a street and i thought the traffic light would stop when i get there. Not knowing that i had to press a button for the traffic light to pass me.i waited patiently fo rover 30 minutes , the pedestrian light did not pass me. After about 30 minutes i had to cross the street like that oh (nothing dey happen) . Another day iwanted to enter a building and i needed to press a button for the door to open,i just went straigth to the door thinking it would just open( automatic door). I had to form(pretend) that i had a phone call and just left the door( naija no dey carry last). |
many people just like forming, I did not know that my flat mate was a nigerian for a long time. the accent is britico to the core. it was when someone came to look for him one day and asked for (okechukwu) that my jaw dropped. Oyinbo will never learn to talk like us but we always love to be like them SAD ![]() |
clarion is a better actress period |
that's not fair, i think we should effect the issue of minimum wage nationwide like they do in the uk |
