THEME: FOOLISHNESS IN VOW TAKING

MEMORISE: Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. Ecclesiastes 5:5

READ: Psalms 15:1-4, (KJV)
1. Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
2. He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
3. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
4. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

MESSAGE:
There will be both pleasant and unpleasant surprises in Heaven. The reason being that many who we think will not make it to Heaven will make it in, just like the robber on the right hand of the Cross of Jesus Christ did. The Bible says;
“But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.”
Ezekiel 33:19

The lawful thing for the wicked to do is to repent, as God is more than willing to forgive and to cleanse him from all unrighteousness (1st John 1:7-9). However, the Bible equally says:
“When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.”
Ezekiel 33:18

One deadly habit of some 21st century Christians is making a vow and not fulfilling it. This is foolishness of the highest order. The Bible warns us against making vows and not fulfilling them. One of such cases is when funds are being raised for the work of God; careless children of God make very big vows ‘in faith’ that they are not able to fulfil. You hear them saying, “God understands!” How dangerous. Our memory verse says;
“Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.”
Ecclesiastes 5:5
Verse six of the same scripture further say:
“Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?”
Worse still, despite being capable of paying their vows, some refuse to, even after God has fulfilled His own part. Nothing could be more dangerous than this.

An aspect of vows that is even more delicate is the marriage vow. People no longer accept the fact that marriage vows remain valid until death separates the husband from the wife or vice versa. They give flimsy excuses for divorcing their spouses. Like one of my children would ask: “When you were saying ‘for better and for worse’, did you put a limit to the extent of the worse you were talking about?” You should never consider breaking your marriage vows. God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16)
Beloved, always keep and pay your vows, and if you have broken your business or marriage vow, repent, restitute and reconcile before it is too late. Covenant breakers will not enter into the Kingdom of God.

ACTION POINT:
Think of all the unfulfilled vows you have made and make amends without further delay.

Stay In Your Place {3}

Anything that gives you the feeling of excitement outside the truth is a dose for momentary madness that will lead to long lasting sadness.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it {Genesis 3: 6}.

Do you know what Eve told Adam that convinced him to eat what God told them not to eat? If you do, I desire to know because I wouldn’t know what Eve told Adam that sounds better than God’s command and certain than God Himself. Reading this verse over and over again, this is my take:

1. Anything that makes you doubt or question God’s Word is a destructive force taking you to calamity.

2. Anything that promises to give you what “seems” God wouldn’t give you is a lie that will eventually rob you of what you have and give you nothing but shame and emptiness.

3. Anything that sounds better and sweeter than the truth is a force pushing into the pit of bitterness and darkness.

4. There is nothing outside God that can give you what God has promised you or something better than the will of God for your life.

Adam and Eve ate the fruit and nothing was the same again. All their upward thrill turn downward and their children’s children felt the pains of their momentary insanity. I urge you to take a clue from this. There is no better place to stand than in God and nothing can guarantee your safety and prosperity than the truth. Me, the IDOL WORSHIPPER?

I wondered why I was in the queue of accused at all
I am intelligent, aggressive, young, Totally committed to my God.
What am I doing here ?with this sheet of supposed sins in my hand I wondered
I don’t drink, I don't smoke, I don’t fornicate, I don’t steal, I am righteous. Others should be here not me.

It was finally my turn to face the Man.
I placed my sheet before Him, He glanced at it and sighed softly.
He looked at me and calmly said,
‘Guilty of idol worship'
Imagine my anger, my fury, My indignation, I jumped out of the chair and said ‘Of course not! Check the sheet again, check the name, It can't be mine’
He sighed again and mentioned one of my names that no one knows
I would not be stopped. It's impossible’ I yelled. I worship only God, the Most High, Maker of heaven and earth, The king of kings and Lord of Lords.
I bow down to none, I have no talisman, no amulet, No pot underneath my bed.
‘You are guilty of idol worship’ He repeated calmly
He looked at me
I looked at Him
It seemed like forever. The room was silent.
I could hear the clock ticking

Then slowly I understood

I am never late for my British Airway flights but I am always late to church

My payments to unfaithful PHCN and water board are never late but I haven’t paid my tithes in three months

I would never miss going to the bank because of the weather but I missed fellowship of Wednesday because it looked really cloudy.
-It seems the AC in the room wasn’t working-

I would wear my party colors to party meetings and not care what anyone thought of me but I hate to talk to my workmates about God because of what they will think of me.
-Someone should fix this AC or put it on 0 because 10 was too hot for me-

I always have the latest tech toy you can think of but my bible is so worn I cant even find Jude anymore
-I wished the Man would get a call and leave but He doesn’t allow anything to interrupt when He is with His children.-

I felt so hot in the room, a nervous sweat on my forehead, I felt so ill and weak, all of my anger and self righteousness was gone, leaving immense guilt in its wake.
I slowly got of the chair and knelt by His feet and said

He smiled gently, looked at me with those passionate eyes of His full of love and He gave me a fresh sheet!
