First, it does not need to make sense to you.Secondly,God is not man. If you read the bible you would have read something like "the foolishness of God is wiser than men"-1Cor. 1:25.
Jesus is the Son of God, He died for the world.
BTW, The story of Abraham is not notional,it happened.Just wondering why a person would waste time talking about what is notional as a basis for his argument and still claim to know what he's saying.
BetaThings:
Did Abraham sacrifice his son at the end of the day? No
And the notional sacrifice was not commanded because of a sin
But to test the faith of Abraham and I can understand that

Why cannot God just forgive - he does not have to justify His actions to anyone
Who will query Him of he just forgave Adam completely
He is not answerable to anyone
Where is the love? Who are we proving it to? Why is the death so special?

Does not make sense to me at all!

True to an extent. But the call is to brace up and do the needful.Teach our children and refuse intimidation. In actual sense, the gate of hell can not prevail.Letz awake to righteousness
greenpasture:
I think you have missed something out that is hugely important. Christianity fails when one generation within a family fails to transmit faith to the next generation. The church in Turkey was well in decline before the rise of Islam. How many churches were given commendations by the Lord. The church in Turkey had focused on externalities; temples, robes and positions. It had cut itself off its Jewish roots and was preaching adherence to doctrine instead of experiencing the life of God.

The true Christians operated underground, persecuted by the so called Christians.

Christianity can never fall or fail due to oppression, or injustice. because it is not a Creed or membership based organization but a life. Even in Saudi Arabia the church is present, alive and thriving.

It cannot die because laws, destruction of buildings or even death cannot extinguish it. Only our faithlessness can cause it to die. And even then God is well able to revive it.

Hahahaha
But you prefer a religion where God who answers to no one
Who is doer of all he intends
Needs to kill his own "son" because of the sin of another person
baffling!
sacrifice born out of love.If you believe the story of Abraham instructed to sacrifice his son, why won't He do same to prove His love?

Politics › Re: Fuel Price Increase: Shehu Sani Reacts, Warns Buhari by derecho(m): 7:20am On May 13, 2016
In 1892 at Stanford University, an 18-year-old student was struggling to pay his fees. He was an orphan, and not knowing where to turn for money, he came up with a bright idea. He and a friend decided to host a musical concert on campus to raise money for their education.

They reached out to the great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski. His manager demanded a guaranteed fee of $2000 for the piano recital. A deal was struck and the boys began to work to make the concert a success. The big day arrived. But unfortunately, they had not managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1600. Disappointed, they went to Paderewski and explained their plight. They gave him the entire $1600, plus a cheque for the balance $400. They promised to honour the cheque at the soonest possible.

“No,” said Paderewski. “This is not acceptable.” He tore up the cheque, returned the $1600 and told the two boys: “Here’s the $1600. Please deduct whatever expenses you have incurred. Keep the money you need for your fees. And just give me whatever is left”. The boys were surprised, and thanked him profusely. It was a small act of kindness. But it clearly marked out Paderewski as a great human being. Why should he help two people he did not even know? We all come across situations like these in our lives. And most of us only think “If I help them, what would happen to me?” The truly great people think, “If I don’t help them, what will happen to them?” They don’t do it expecting something in return. They do it because they feel it’s the right thing to do.

Paderewski later went on to become the Prime Minister of Poland. He was a great leader, but unfortunately when the World War began, Poland was ravaged. There were more than 1.5 million people starving in his country, and no money to feed them. Paderewski did not know where to turn for help. He reached out to the US Food and Relief Administration for help.He heard there was a man called Herbert Hoover — who later went on to become the US President. Hoover agreed to help and quickly shipped tons of food grains to feed the starving Polish people.A calamity was averted. Paderewski was relieved.

He decided to go across to meet Hoover and personally thank him. When Paderewski began to thank Hoover for his noble gesture, Hoover quickly interjected and said, “You shouldn’t be thanking me Mr. Prime Minister. You may not remember this, but several years ago, you helped two young students go through college. I was one of them.”

The world is a wonderful place. What goes around comes around. Please help others to the best of your ability. In the long run you may be helping yourself. God never forgets anyone who sows a good seed in other people, never.

Nothing in nature lives for itself. Rivers don't drink their own water. Trees don't eat their own fruit. Sun doesn't give heat for itself. Flowers don't spread fragrance for themselves. Living for others is the rule of nature. And therein lies the secret of living.

If you find this useful please pass it on.
Politics › Re: Nigerians Reject Labour Move Against Pump Price by derecho(m): 3:45pm On May 12, 2016
There's no need to worry, especially when I saw this:

"In a current affairs radio programme, "Day Break show on Rocky City FM" monitored in Abeokuta, on Thursday, about 80% of the callers rejected the agitation by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to protest against removal of the subsidy, while 20 % said they were ready to join the protest."

Though many are not commenting, they sure know 90% of Nigeria don't want it now.No matter what it is said to achieve.60% do not know what the jargon deregulation mean so cant support it. 40% of those in support are just supporting it because it's coming from PMB.
Summary, everyone is entitled to their opinion.Methink, there should be some buffer in place before all this.NLC has a right to protest at least as this also affect its members.

And you think you are qualified to advise an ordinary church-goer? God solves problems taken to Him in prayers.Nothing is impossible to Him.
cold:
Hmm..Christians should desist from advising parties in abusive marriages to persist in it. Pray, pray, pray! Fast, fast, fast! They scream. Until something goes awry. They turn around and blame either party for not leaving at the first sign of violence. God does not solve marital issues. As a matter of fact, god does not solve any problem at all. Otherwise there wouldn't be so much evil in this world. Self preservation is the first law of nature. Protect thyself. You have been warned!

THEME : CONSISTENT CHRISTIAN?

Memorise:
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be.
Revelation 22:12

Read:
Revelation 22:11-14,
11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Bible in one year:
2nd Kings 10:18-12:21,
Proverbs 22:29-23:13

MESSAGE
At the beginning of his ministry, Paul took a ride in a basket as he escaped for his life in Damascus (2nd Corinthians 11:32-33). But the God who delivered him from the garrison at Damascus, allowed him to end up in jail at Philippi (Act 16). Because God answered a particular prayer yesterday does not mean that He would repeat another in exactly the same manner.
In Acts 16:25, Paul conducted a worship service in prison right in the midst of chains and bonds. He never complained. Paul learnt to praise God in whatever circumstance he found himself. Not many people can praise God when thrown into prison for the sake of the Gospel. He was prepared to undertake the worst of sufferings for the Kingdom of God (Philippians 1:20-21). He was not ashamed. Are you ashamed to suffer minor ridicule, persecutions,
denials, beatings for His Name today? Paul could say we should become a living sacrifice to God because he was one.

In African traditional religion, when a bird or animal is brought as a sacrifice to an idol, the giver forfeits his right to that animal; it becomes the property of the idol for the rest of its life. Whether it lives or dies or is given to someone is at the discretion of the idol. That living sacrifice may be fed so well in one moment and killed the next minute. This explains the term living sacrifice. You should be so yielded to God to the extent of delivering to Him the greatest pleasure in whatever you do. If dying for the Gospel will give Him the height of pleasure, you should be prepared to die like Stephen. The preparedness of Daniel to go into the lion’s den demonstrates that he was a living sacrifice. But in the end, instead of death, his faith compelled a decree for the whole world to fear Daniel’s God. If my death can produce a United Nations decree compelling all nations of the world to worship no other god other than my God – the true and living God, I will gladly be on my way to Heaven. Are you a living sacrifice? And to what extent?

Prayer Point
Father, please give me the grace to always look unto You for everything I need in life.

My friend, the buck stops at his table.Secondly,it borders on National security.Thirdly, you don't make such statements if truly you need the input of the governors. It's a case of bami na omo mi Ko de'nu olomo. Bearing in mind he's fulani.
Goke7:
is he forcing his recommendation on the Governors? No, he can't. The Governors can come up with theirs, you guys are just over blowing the issues, he is only making suggestions and telling them efforts being made in the past and that's why he is asking the Governors to find solutions.
Politics › Re: Find Solutions To Farmers/herdsmen Crisis, Buhari Tells Governors by derecho(m): 2:17pm On May 10, 2016
Which people came up with that report and under whose watch? That was his recommendation then. Can't people disagree and also recommend theirs? So many things have been phased out already, this one too is obviously a no-brainer.
Secondly, pushing it to state governors is to engender enmity btw those who will object to it and the fulanis. He ,through his statement, has shown he supports the grazing reserve bill.
Again, why doesnt he let governors decide on other security issues like state police? This stance further divide us as a people.
Goke7:
you lacking understanding and you never read the article, the man said that when he was PTF chairman, grazing routes were carved out, veterinary clinics were also done while penalties for herdsmen who intruded into farms were spelt out, now he is challenging the governors to look into that report and find solutions for their respective states.

Your problem is that you are born to abuse and throw insults on PMB all the days of your life even if he is saying anything useful. Nothing will ever make sense to you from PMB cos according to you the man is a dullard, even if PMB says he will construct a sky scrapper for you, you will still insult the old man. Erudite in what then? In grammar?Friend, you may have your bias just as many of us.What he's saying is that Buhari's style is not well thought of ,atleast when compared with the one painstakingly done by the party, and that Buhari does not deliberate on important economic issues. Some of his policies are ill-timed thus causing unnecessary hardship
fiizznation:
[ i]Don't get me wrong please. Pat utomi might be a brain box when an issue has something to do with his area of knowledge and all that. But that man knows nothing about complex and complicated basic economy like ours. I heard him talk and I read one or two of his journals. Believe me the man is all big-grammers and catchy phrases, but when he speaks economics, you begin to wonder if he was a juvenile in a grown man's body. Aside from this his flaw I mentioned, I have absolutely nothing against him. He is an erudite[/i]

DExplorer1:
Sometimes, we don't need a Church, we need a worship centre where people of all forms can come, enjoy God's word and be converted.

Who knows those brothers maybe prepared by Heaven to be converted that day.

Church has got lots of rules and regulation and it's chasing away those unsaved, the same people Christ came to the world for.

I wonder if we're really doing God's work in this manner.
