I neither snatched a ballot box nor threatened the life of any citizen. I had only stood, shocked by what these power thirsty men have turned our land into—this theatre of war. Before my eyes three bodies, soaked in blood, were lugged to the alleyway were I stood. The guns rattled close by, and I fled with the many other people who ran for their lives.

A gang of boys camouflaged in military outfits, heavily guarded by armoured cars and men of the Nigerian military, trooped down the road, shooting directly into the town and at anyone who was suspected to be a member of the PDP.

I sprawled on the ground in a makeshift bar I had found at the waterside where I had run to when the shooting became very intense. The armies followed, shooting directly at citizens who had come out expecting to see an election, but now face their death sentence. Peering through spaces between ground and wooden walls, I saw people, many people bleeding from their necks and backs and bellies and jumping into the river.

I was there, lying on that temporal space between life and death, still trying to post on a news on my Facebook wall when a trudge drew closer, matched the wooden wall down and cracked a gun to my head.

At this point, I knew it had finally happened. We had earlier heard the news of their plan to incarcerate members of the PDP before the elections. Although they had no been very successful at this plan, early this morning, the Secretary to the Akuku-Toru Local Government Council was pick up from his house under very severe torture.

I quickly taped the SHARE function on my phone screen to post what I had written in wait of what might happen.

"I have been arrested by men of the Nigerian military. I don't know what will happen next," it read.

Why some people found it difficult to believe this news and chose to make jest of it on my wall, is what I still struggle to understand. Does the news sound like a scam or an attempt for one to score some cheap popularity? I do not think so. I think of it rather as a measure taken for my security.

Five military officers arrested me. They had riffles, daggers and another young man who begged mercilessly for his life. The boy had also been apprehended from a room where he was hiding for his life.

"I from this compound o," he begged. "Na as them they shoot for our house, na'im make I run come hide for here."

I brought out my voters card quickly to identify myself as did also the man. But it was only a waste of time as the army officers snatched our PVCs without any effort for identification.

We were moved to a compound belonging to an APC stalwart. Here, we were to be identified by APC members for what I knew would be an implication.

"Ehem! See am there," a young raised an accusation on our entrance into the yard. He was obviously pointing at me. " Him follow. Na them be the boys."

What follow were strokes of koboko. Slaps. And a teargassing of my eyes until I heard a voice from afar.

"No no no, it said."

" Leave this one..."

"I know him..."

"He's not one of them."

I ran as fast as the soldiers booted my back and buttocks.

I did not bother to say anything to the men who ordered for my beating or the man who saved my life this evening.

But I recognized the voice that said, "Leave this one." It was of a man who comes from this place and knows me to be of this land. It was the voice of the land.

The land does not consume its own.

We will overcome!

Pandemonium broke out moments ago in Amukoko, Ajeromi Ifelodun local government area of Lagos State, after thugs stormed a polling unit to disrupt the ongoing presidential and national assembly elections.

According to Emmanuella Okoye who reported the incident, hoodlums stormed the polling unit in with bikes and tricycles (Keke Napep) while carrying metals, sticks and other weapons.

The hoodlums chased people out of the polling unit and destroyed ballot boxes and other election materials.

I guess APC has sensed defeat in this election.

The government of Nigeria headed by the dumbass from Katsina State could conduct a complete presidential election yet he wants second term. Only in a basket of fool such as Nigeria will such a jackass win election in the first place talk less second term.

Most of ballot box snatching allegations came from the states where APC seemed to loose. Even voters suppression in Kaduna State has been registered as another desperate attempt to keep the ship afloat.

Where your pretense failed you is why are soldiers performing the function of police? Must soldiers go around in the midnight to arrest civilians? Nigeria is basket of fools.

According to reports, there's a protest at Stadium Roundabout as soldiers who mounted roadblock in the area attempted to stop residents from the southern part of Kaduna from accessing their polling units in the northern part of the state.

The soldiers say they have been authorised not to allow movement.

I love the people of southern Kaduna. The only place in the defunct northern region of Nigeria I would like to visit beyond Mukurdi municipality.

Nigeria could not have defeated Biafra even with the help of Britain, USSR, Egypt, Australia, Arab league of Nations, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. What actually removed the steam from Biafra came from South-west Nigeria and so-called minorities in southern Nigeria. Today, it is fun to see how these so-called southern minorities are maltreated by their northern leaders. Even the so-called northern minorities are treated with more measured respect than their southern counterparts.

There is no doubt in me there is someone in his Federal Constituency that can equally do as well or even better than him. Jonathan cannot be faulted when a road trodden common laborer from the northern region of Nigeria is wiser than the university degree holder from the so-called minorities from southern Nigeria.

Nigeria is disgrace to humanity. The best thing to do to the geographical expression is disintegration. I know most Yoruba folks will develop fever on hearing of disintegration of the Nigeria but it is the only salvation.

It will be a shame if Okigwe south electorates vote for this turncoat named Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba. This is how Nigeria slips into abyss of idiocy. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba knew he and APC had fouled up the process and he cunningly decamped to another party. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba should be deliberately stoned.

I do not play on juvenile antecedents or fragment of imagination. I write on reality. Ndigbo do not play tribal politics as Yoruba people do. The Obasanjo/Atiku and Jonathan/Nmandi have nothing Igbo in them yet Ndigbo voted overwhelmingly for the tickets while the Yoruba were voting the tickets that comprised Yoruba. If Muhammadu Buhari has chosen Edo or Ibibio or ijo as a running mate instead of Osinbajo, Yoruba would not have voted for APC.

I do not know about the above suggestion. Anybody who tend to protest against his beliefs is dumb. APC and Buhari acted out their beliefs that military should not be deployed during election day during the regime of Jonathan yet he and APC are talking about the army to shoot people on the election day. It is a dumb act not a hypocritical act.

Ndigbo vote for the ideological astute of a political party not the composition of the its candidature. Yoruba always vote on tribal composition of party ticket. Igbo voted for Obasanjo and Jonathan when no Igbo person was on the ticket. If Atiku had chosen Ijo, Ibibio, Jujun, Idoma, Orhobo or Edo as Vice, Ndigbo would overwhelmingly vote PDP as oppose to what Yoruba would have done. The history of Nigeria is open for every person with green mind to read. Yoruba are tribally rigid.

In the language of Hausa’s, the term “Bauchi’’ is literally understood as the land that appreciates tourism and freedom. But unfortunately, present-day attacks by Boko Haram insurgents have deprived Bauchi of freedom and prevented adventurists from using it as a tourist centre. Based on the reports obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics, Bauchi lags behind with a poverty rate of 73%.

7. Ebonyi State
Ebonyi State is situated in the South Eastern region of Nigeria and considered the poorest in that region. Meanwhile, it is obviously one of the Nigerian States established (in 1996) under the military regime led by General Sanni Abacha. In recent times, Ebonyi State is reportedly tainted by dishonest public officials, particularly in its local council development areas. In line with the reports issued by the National Bureau of Statistics, Ebonyi State is under 73.6% level of poverty.

6. Plateau  State
Plateau State is arguably situated in Nigeria’s central region. Undoubtedly, it is considered one of the Nigerian region endowed with tourist attractions. Likewise, the state is associated with a cold atmospheric condition and has one of Nigeria’s fortified cities –Jos –as its capital. On frequent occasions, Plateau State has been plagued by conflicts associated with tribal differences.

Above that, the state suffers recurring terror attacks particularly between its people and Fulani herdsmen. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Plateau is afflicted with a poverty rate of 74.1%.

5. Jigawa State
Jigawa is one of the Nigerian States situated in the country’s North Central region. Meanwhile, this State emerged from Kano State –one of the oldest States in Nigeria. Jigawa State is flanked by several other Nigerian States. Around its North-Eastern region, the state borders upon Yobe State. Around its Eastern region, it borders upon Bauchi State and in its Western region, it is bordered by Katsina and Kano States. 

Furthermore, Jigawa borders upon Zinder Region –a foreign territory situated in The Republic of Niger. Significantly, this gives Jigawa State the advantage to engage in commercial activities outside its Nigerian territory. As contained in the reports issued by the National Bureau of Statistics, Jigawa lives under a poverty rate of 74.1%.

4. Gombe State
This State is situated in the North Eastern part of Nigeria and it borders upon several other Northern States including Bauchi, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe and Taraba. In Nigeria, Gombe is one of the Northern States extremely prone to terrorist invasions and due to this, the North-Eastern State suffers severe economic and developmental setbacks. In accordance with the estimates obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics, Gombe State is declared with a poverty rate of 74.2%.

3. Adamawa State
In 1991, Adamawa State emerged from the previously existing Gongola State and recently, it is one of the Northern States already devastated by Boko Haram sect. Due to this terrorist devastation, Adamawa suffers from poor rates of economic growth and economic development. Although Yola –the capital city of Adamawa State –is under transformation and is currently equipped with amenities such as traffic lights, street lights and motorable roads, Adamawa State lags behind due to the poor rates of development across its various other areas.

As obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics, Adamawa State is associated with a poverty rate estimated at 74.2%.

2. Katsina State
Katsina is one of the Nigerian States situated in the North Central region of the country. Within the North Central region –one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones –Katsina happens to be the state with the highest incidence of poverty. Furthermore, Katsina is barely favoured by the allocations it receives from the federal government.

In that case, the state receives a meagre allocation of N100 million (rated at 0.08%) for its Ministry of Youth and Sports to run the Youth Empowerment Program and trifling sum of N214, 019, 000 (rated at 0.1%) for its Ministry of Women Affairs to carry out its Women Empowerment Program. Besides that, the state receives a very meagre sum of N276 million (rated at 0.2%) as capital allocation to its manufacturing sector.

The National Bureau of Statistics identified Katsina State with a poverty level of 74.5%.

Sokoto is one of the Nigerian States situated in the North West. The state happens to be in the farthest point of the North West. Unfortunately, Sokoto has been identified as Nigeria’s poorest state year after year particularly as a result of its unfavourable climate. As regards the unfriendliness of this region, its usual temperature stretches up to 45 degrees’ Celsius.

In Sokoto, most of the inhabitants depend on different kinds of agriculture for sustenance. At the same time, the largest portion of the land mass is occupied by rural areas. In accordance with the figures provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, Sokoto State is plagued by 81.2% poverty rate.

I guess you are too young to know even the history of your mother's village. In 1954, Zik appointed Yoruba man as the secretory to regional government. Even a Fulani man became the first mayor of Enugu. If an Igbo man is appointed commissioner in Lagos State, it was quite deserving because Ndigbo had a great population in Lagos State. Yoruba in entire Igbo land are numerically nothing.
