NaijaRoyalty: The Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has challenged the Governor-elect of the state, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, to probe him when he leaves office.
The Governor said this while debunking recent allegation by Ihedioha and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state that he has already withdrawn N17 billion from the state treasury.
According to the outgoing governor, Ihedioha has every right to investigate even the food he and his family ate in Government House from 2011 to 2019.
He described the allegation as unfounded, adding that Ihedioha lacks the capacity to lead Imo State.
DAILY POST reported earlier that Ihedioha had given directives to financial institutions in the state against further transactions with the Okorocha-led government.
The Governor-elect also vowed to “recover all properties acquired illegally by governor Okorocha.”
Reacting in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said, “He should also know that with what Governor Okorocha has achieved, Imo people won’t entertain any excuse from him.
“If he likes, let him talk about Okorocha from now till when he will leave as governor. The die is cast. Action speaks louder than words.
“Blackmail or propaganda, which the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) invested heavily in, during the 12 years they governed the state, have become old-fashioned in the state at the moment.
“Ihedioha was contentiously declared winner, on Tuesday, and on Thursday, he came up with the allegation of the government withdrawing N17 billion. He never mentioned how the withdrawal was made?
“Like we said earlier, he is not an intelligent guy. He can’t cope with the challenges of governance.”

titiloyeblog: The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Friday apologized to Nigerians over the suspension of the Iju-Abeokuta free train ride during the 2019 general elections.
Amaechi tendered the apology during the monthly rail inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan modernisation project in Ibadan.
He said that the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) suspended the three months free train ride due to security and safety of passengers.
“It was suspended by the Chinese and the excuse they gave me was that they cannot allow it run because of safety, since they have not completed the second line but they are almost through with it.
“It is almost completed from Iju to Abeokuta. I want to apologise to Nigerians that they suspended it when they left the country, which I didn’t envisage, they will go back soon,” Amechi said.
Speaking on his passion for the project, Amaechi said that the responsibility was given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari, which must be delivered to create jobs and boost the economy.
“I know you will say I’m stressed up but as a minister, I have a responsibility passed to me by Mr President and I must deliver on it.
“Also, the economy of Nigeria can be driven most importantly, if we can link the seaport to hinterland because when cargoes come, they must go.
“The more you are able to move goods and services to hinterland, the more you will create jobs and the more you create jobs, the more growth that you will have and that is my drive,” he said.
The minister, however, said that he was always passionate about his job, stating that if a new minister would takeover, his was sure that the person would have the passion to complete the project.
“You see, me and passion, if you watched me as the governor of Rivers, that same passion was there. I was restless at delivering my responsibility.
“I pray that whoever will be the Minister of Transportation should have the same passion and focus on that responsibility.
“You can never tell, that passion is everywhere,” he said.(NAN)

Politics › Re: Buhari Replaces Bashir Abubakar With Idris Kassim Ahmed, Chief Security Officer by DerideGull(m): 10:47am On Mar 16, 2019 |
ijustdey: President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the redeployment of his Chief Security Officer (CSO) and accepted a replacement.
Bashir Abubakar was Mr Buhari’s CSO until this week when he was ordered to proceed on an immediate “strategic course” at a university in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He was promptly replaced by Idris Kassim Ahmed, top sources at the Presidential Villa told PREMIUM TIMES.
Whenever Mr Ahmed is not in the villa, he is to be assisted by another State Security Service (SSS) official, Abubakar Maikano.
Mr Buhari had two months into his administration in July 2015 replaced his erstwhile CSO, Abdulrahman Mani, and requested the SSS to redeploy him out of the Presidential Villa.
The president thereafter appointed Mr Abubakar to replace Mr Mani.
Until his appointment as CSO, Mr Abubakar was an assistant director in the Bayelsa State command of the SSS.
Mr Ahmed, the new CSO, was deployed from the headquarters of the SSS.
Our sources, who are familiar with the development, said the removal of Mr Abubakar was at the instance of the Director General of the SSS, Yusuf Bichi.
“The DG wrote and informed Mr President of the plans by the service to send the former CSO for further training at Argentina and it appears that request was granted because a replacement has already been named,” a source said.
Another source who asked not to be named because of the “sensitive nature of the matter” said those around the president have never been happy with the way the former CSO operated.
A source said those around Mr Buhari do not like the “independent method of operation” of Mr Abubakar.
“They may not have approached the president to complain officially but most of them do by their body language and they did so because they know the president easily knows everything going on around him even if he never showed it,” the source said.
For instance, we gathered that Mr Buhari’s media team were not happy with the way Mr Abubakar expelled the State House correspondent of Punch Newspaper, Olalekan Adetayo, without recourse to the media team.
Mr Abubakar thereafter defended his decision to expel the reporter, saying journalists have a responsibility to be patriotic in reporting matters of national importance.
In an internal memo he distributed in April 2017, to several presidency officials, including Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Mr. Abubakar detailed alleged transgressions and ethical concerns observed in Mr Adetayo’s reporting of activities of the State House, and pronounced him unfit to continue on the beat.
“You may wish to advise the Punch Newspaper that it reserves the right to send a more matured, professional and patriotic representative that will work in the overall interest of the nation rather than self-serving and parochial interests,” Mr. Abubakar, said in the April 25, 2017 memo, which was also copied to the President and the then Director-General of SSS, Lawal Daura.
Although Punch newspaper demanded an apology from Mr Abubakar and vowed not to name a replacement for Mr Adetayo, we gathered that the newspaper had sent in a replacement to the State House beat but the former CSO failed to grant approval for the new reporter’s credentials.
When PREMIUM TIMES contacted the spokesperson of Mr Buhari, Garba Shehu, Friday evening, he denied knowledge of the new security officer.
He said he has not yet been briefed on the matter and will revert whenever he receives any information.

Politics › Re: Senators Caution Buhari, APC Against Meddling In Emergence Of Leadership by DerideGull(m): 1:52pm On Mar 15, 2019 |
chidima2019: Some of the senators-elect, who received certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, in Abuja, have cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders not to meddle in the emergence of the Senate president and other leaders of the 9th Senate.
This is coming barely two and a half months to the inauguration of the 9th Senate.
The newly elected senators further cautioned the APC and the presidency to manage the issue of the election of the presiding officers of the Senate in such a manner as to ensure peace in the upper chamber as well as harmonious relationship between the lawmakers and the presidency.
Speaking with newsmen at the event, the elected lawmakers, though didn’t rule out the presidency and leadership of the party playing some roles in the emergence of the next Senate leadership, added that they must be careful not to re-introduce fresh crisis.
The newly elected Senator Adedayo Adeyeye (APC, Ekiti South) advised that for the 9th Senate to avoid the leadership crisis that engulfed the 8th Senate, the national leadership of the party must provide the required direction to that effect.
Also speaking, the senator-elect, Bamidele Opeyemi (APC Ekiti Central), suggested that whatever process would be used by the presidency and party leadership must be well managed to avoid any backlash.
He said: “The calibre and character of personalities elected for the 9th Senate are very solid and promising for the country, but leadership is key, the very reason why the leadership of the ruling party must manage well, whatever process it is going to use for emergence of leadership at both chambers this time around.
“Once this is done, the party and, in particular, the National Assembly and the presidency will be on the same page on development-driven bills sponsorship, policy formulations, and approvals.”
The spokesman of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger North), told journalists that the lesson learnt in the 8th Senate would be used to prevent the mistakes of the past from happening.
He said: “I was a key player in the leadership configuration of the 8th Senate and the attendant crises that followed. As one of the 43 returnees now, the lessons learnt will be used to prevent the mistakes of the past from happening.”
A twist was, however, added to the leadership race on Thursday as Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano South), openly declared for the position of deputy president of the Senate.
Recall that it was reported that Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe, North East); Ali Ndume (APC, Borno, North East); Abdullahi Adamu (APC, Nasarawa, North Central) and Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe, North East) are interested in the position of Senate president.
With Gaya, a senator from North West declaring for deputy and others from North East and Central eyeing the Senate president, the Southern region will have nothing in the Senate if this projection materialises.
Gaya, who declared his intention on Thursday at the International Conference Centre (ICC), after collecting his certificate of return as senator-elect from Kano South into the 9th Senate, told journalists that his aspiration is driven by mass appeal for it from his colleagues and his burning desire to serve in the leadership of the next Senate, having returned for the fourth time.
He said: “I thank the Almighty Allah who granted me the grace of being elected into the Senate for the fourth time.
“As regards the leadership composition of the 9th Senate, majority of my colleagues are mounting pressure on me to run for the position of deputy senate president, which I want to use this opportunity to announce that I’m running for the position, being one the most ranking senators in the 9th Senate.”
He, however, added that his ambition for the position would be determined by permission to that effect by the presidency and the party just as he stated that had Senator Bukola Saraki remained in APC and won, he would have still retained his position as Senate president.

mrakeli62: The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against disrespecting the Ijaw National Leader, Pa Edwin Clark and other leaders of South South and Middle Belt regions.
The State secretary of PDP, Chief Godspower Keku, in a statement on Friday in Yenagoa, also condemned the “despicable display of disrespect” for the person of Ijaw National Leader, Pa Edwin Clark and other elder statesmen and leaders in the South South and Middle Belt regions by the leaders of APC in the state.
Keku also berated a comment by the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr Diofie Buokoribo for casting aspersions on the integrity of Pa Clark and other leaders in the regions, regarding their views about the election-related violence in Rivers and Bayelsa states.
He said that it was as immoral and sickening for a son of the South South to make such a disparaging remarks about the elders and leaders of his people for saying the truth about issues of grave concern to them.
According to him, the statement attributed to Buokoribo, where he described Pa Clark and other leaders as a disgrace, fits perfectly into APC’s language of desperation and culture of violence in Bayelsa.
He advised the state APC, led by Chief Timipre Sylva and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri to apologize to the people.
He stressed that in spite of the massive deployment of soldiers to aid the evil plot of the APC to rig the election in Bayelsa, the people roundly rejected them with the PDP clinching 17 out of the 21 declared results of the 24 House of Assembly seats.

ebusnwaoma: Two corpers will be repeating their service year in Benue for absconding, as confirmed by the state's National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Mr Joshua Shicha.Speaking with newsmen, Mr Joshua disclosed that the two corpers who will be repeating their service year in Benue, were not seen in their place of primary assignment for three months.
He added that such act is against the NYSC rules and regulations. The Benue State NYSC Coordinator who revealed that 950 corps members of the 2018 Batch ‘A’ in the state successfully completed their service year, told Punch's correspondent that a corps member of the batch, Etim Sunday (BN/18A/2012), won awards for his rural electrification project, adding that another corps member of the batch, Ruth Andrew (BN/18A/1633), got a commendation letter for her sensitisation and awareness campaign on drug abuse.
“Two corps members were remobilised in the state. Any corps member who left the place of his primary assignment for a period of three months automatically is to repeat the corps service year. Those people were not found in the various places of assignment within a period of three months. So, we communicated to the National Directorate at National Headquarters concerning this case of abscondment and we were directed from Abuja that they should be remobilised" he said.
