No its not bad, but i think you should first of all discuss issues that will tell you the kind of (girl/ Guy) he or she is, like general questions, national issues, fashion, e.t.c, but ask at random.
Its important to find out the mindset of the babe and if you can cope with it first. Like is she dull or intelligent(same for the guy), is she the kind of girl that only talks of party and Brazilian and BB.Does she spend the entire date pinging? (Also be observant).

Its also imporatant if you are very intelligent though, to do more listening than talking on a date, most especially if the person you are out with is a chatterbox, listening helps you pick vital issues about the person unknown to them.
