I see, a strategic place in this context is a place where you need to slow down or where it's easy to be ambushed. Someone sees you at toll gate and notices you will be a good prospect then calls to alert the robbers ahead that you are coming in a blue honda or Toyota SUV. Just like when you withdraw money in a bank and someone describes you to robbers outside the banking hall.

This is a recent encounter by two of my sister's friends travelling back from ibadan to Lagos on Sunday 28th Aug.

They stopped to buy some stuffs from traders at old toll gate and paid with new 1000 naira note, just a few miles afterwards at a strategic place, they were ambushed by gun and cutlass wielding guys, they had to stop and their car was searched, they were beaten mercilessly, they even wanted to drag one of them into the bush and rape but received a call that police is approaching. thats how they left with the little valuables they could find. Apparently, there is an informant at old toll gate calling the robbers ahead and describing prospective victim's car.

The thieves were not able to cart away most valuables as the ladies were lucky in a way. the SUV had a mini fridge compartment which is used for safe for valuables too.

So be careful buying stuffs while travelling, some guys are monitoring and will give your info to robbers waiting ahead.
