Bhol28:
Come to think of it where was NLC during the Emefile's wicked Naira change policy. They strangely kept quiet while workers and people faced serious hardship caused by the policy.
The country was on tension then. If they had done it, everyone would have accused them of taking bribe from corrupt politicians based on what politicians had said about the policy, even Tinubu said the policy was to bring down his ambition. So, why should NLC go on strike at such critical time when all Nigerians were hoping for a new Nigeria? We all laboured for the election both under rain and sun. But what happened? INEC could not stand above the pressure to rig.

In fact, it's a whole lot of complicated issue. So, anyone calling on NLC now citing naira redesign policy is just joking around to divert attention. Be wise and don't roll with everything a politician says especially things from FFK. At the end of the day, the poor masses would be the ones to still suffer after supporting the politicians who only care about themselves.

You've heard of subsidy removal. But have you heard of any immediate health facility improvement or investment in education with the supposed "subsidy" money so as to prove to Nigerians that the removal of subsidy is working. You've heard of palliative but do you think it covers all those earning below 100k? Under Buhari you heard of palliatives, but where did they end?

We know our politicians when it comes to palliatives "free money without EFCC monitoring", they will take it and give you peanut or one satchet of spaghetti.

If they say they want to do palliatives in the actual sense, how much can they pay you to sustain 140 million Nigerians in poverty? It is totally unrealistic.

Nobody is against the removal of subsidy. But the timeline actually matters. Tinubu has four years to perform, he can allow the subsidy for 1 year and the next year remove it. Also, the price of locally made petrol must come down if subsidy will be removed otherwise, bunkering must be legalised because it's totally useless to have a refinery and can't afford what is refined inside, it's not as if the crude oil was manufactured, it's drawn freely from the ground, our own soil, you must make things work for us or let your government resign.

Do you now trust the government of the day? Are you seeing the ex-political looters in his cabinets recently? Just wait after the first 100 days of this government in power before you conclude.

Politics / Re: Tinubu: We Will Review Minimum Wage To Reflect Current Realities (video) by Dicado: 7:50am On Jun 04, 2023
I dey smell "more printing of naira notes" for salaries. Ormo, money go soon full everywhere. No more borrowing to pay salaries
leanonme82:
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his administration’s readiness to review the present N30,000 minimum wage to be in tandem with current global realities.

According to him, improved livelihood for Nigerians remains a top priority of his government, with more people-focused economic policies, assuring that the national minimum wage needs a review to reflect realities.

The President, who received members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) led by the Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, at the State House, Abuja on Friday, said the national and sub-national governments will work together on the minimum wage, which already requires “soul searching.’’

Watch Video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8smjIgHSS8c

He said: “We need to do some arithmetic and soul searching on the minimum wage. We will have to take a look at that together, and the revenue. We must strengthen the source and application of our revenue.’’

President Tinubu urged the governors to seize the opportunity of being chosen among millions of citizens in their states to make a difference in the lives of people, adding that he will work for the benefit of Nigerians.

According to him: “This meeting is not strange to me, and the content of the meeting is so valuable. The camaraderie is very stimulating. This is about the Nigerian project, not Bola Tinubu”.

“As progressives and thinkers under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC), you have a role to play in educating our people and making sure we manage ourselves,’’ the President told the governors.

President Tinubu said it was a good and encouraging sign that the APC has a majority in the National Assembly and some Houses of Assembly, which will make it easier to develop policies that will directly impact the economy and the people.

“If we work together, the Nigeria of our dreams is not far away. Rest assured that we will not have multiple exchange rates anymore. You asked for this meeting, and I had to set aside time to be here.

“We have a political party that we will need to manage, whichever way, we have inherited assets and liabilities, and we cannot complain,’’ he stated.

The President said he would maintain an open-door policy, willing to entertain issues, deliberate, and collectively find solutions to the challenges facing the country, including security.

“It is in our hands, and I am ready to work and listen at any time,’’ he added.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, on his remarks, called on the governors to rally around the President as he tackles the challenges that stagnate the economy, like the oil subsidy and multiple exchange rates.

“Let us rally around the President and not bulge, there are vested interests that may want to resist the subsidy removal. Its removal will free resources for the development of your states,” he added.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting with the President, Chairman of the PGF, Governor Uzodinma, called on Nigerians to rally behind the government’s decision to remove the subsidy.

According to him, subsidy was no longer sustainable as the country had been having to borrow money to pay for it, and that the National Economic Council (NEC) had already voted against it.

“We already agreed as a government and in the National Economic Council that subsidizing petroleum products is no longer sustainable because for the past two years, we have been borrowing to subsidize and in various meetings I, for instance, have asked questions, who are the exact beneficiaries of this subsidy and I’m sure you, from the media, may not know exactly who the exact beneficiaries and there’s none of us here who can vouch for the integrity of implementation programmes of the petroleum subsidy allocation.

According to him: “It has gotten to a point that it is either that, which is no longer sustainable, is managed or there will be no Nigeria and all of us are committed to the success and unity of the country and the last appropriation, which is law, made provision for subsidy up till June. The President, who has just been sworn-in few days ago, has not prepared any budget, and he’s under oath to respect the laws of the land and one of these laws is 2023 Appropriations Acts.

“So by June this year, it is very clear that there is no provision for any money to be used to subsidize petroleum product. What he did from the address, because I went home two days, took that address, went through that address and saw that what the President mentioned passively was petroleum subsidy is no longer fashionable and cannot be sustained and we, members of National Economic Council, chaired by former Vice President Osinbajo, agreed also to the extent that the former government had concluded arrangements to take loan from the World Bank, that will be used as palliative to be sent to the people of Nigeria, as a measure to cushion the harsh weather or inconveniences of the complete removal of the subsidy by government.

“So it is not new and I want you people to help this situation because collectively, only by working together, we can save the country. I thought that what we should be saying now is, in the absence of subsidizing petroleum products, how are we going to make this product available to Nigerians to use”.

Politics / Re: Subsidy: Why I Opposed Tinubu In 2015, Ajulo Tells Critics by Dicado: 6:35am On Jun 03, 2023
Let's observe Tinubu for 3 months before we jump to conclusions
naijabetlee:
The Renowned Lawyer and Rights Activist, Dr Kayode Ajulo, has slammed critics for using his 2015 comments on subsidies to oppose the recent announcement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ajulo, who was the National Secretary of the Labour Party in 2015 had opposed the statement of the new President who leveraged the 10th remembrance event of the Late Professor Bala Usman to lobby the then President Muhammadu Buhari to remove subsidy in 2016.

The 2015 statement was exhumed owing to the current stance of the former LP’s Secretary on the recent announcement of subsidy removal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ajulo, said his stance on subsidy removal in 2015 was as valid as his stance now in 2023.

He said the country has gone through different phases between now and then, saying the present realities warrant the total removal of fuel subsidy to save the country from sinking into deep financial problems.

“I think every discerning mind should appreciate the President for exhibiting strong will. I am personally saying this because he has remained committed to his advocacy on subsidy removal since 2015.

” He unequivocally campaigned on the mandate without fear and he was voted by Nigerians with that in mind.

“I can say that the President meant well for Nigerians if only for the fact that he is resolute in his advocacy without the fear whose horse is gored.”

The lawyers said his comments on national issues are influenced by his passion for an egalitarian society and passion for the development of the country.

“I am not one of those people who comment on issues because it is the popular opinion and would make some quarters feel great.

” My positions on national issues are genuine and influenced by my unrepentant passion for the growth of the country.

“The lasting solution to subsidy lies in building refineries to reduce the logistics cost.

” Removing subsidy without measures to cushion for soft landing will amount to passing the sentence of sufferings on Nigerians except for Dangote Refinery which takes the position of Nigeria building one.

“The starting point to keep the prices of fuel down is for the government, which owns the crude to build its own refinery and allow others to market the distribution.

“It is in the distribution that wastage is managed properly because those that bought it for business will not allow any waste to be able to generate maximum profit from it.”

The lawyer opined that the President needs to hurry in removing corruption, nepotism and all criminal tendencies.

NaijaCowFarm:
Fuel increase from N185 to N490 is 265% increase. This simply imply that minimum wage need to catch up the fuel price. Hence, a commensurate increase of wages to N80,000 plus cost of living allowance of N20,000.

Anyone not willing to pay should be picketed into resigning. We all want fuel subsidy to end, but you cannot increase cost of fuel that government sell, yet the people dource of income remain stagnant

This is coming after he met with the members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in the state.

In the video, Tinubu and his entourage were received by the Chief Imam at the Mosque today, June 2nd, 2023.

However, the video of President Tinubu praying Juma’t with the aid of a chair in the mosque has resulted in criticisms from critics.

Many tagged Tinubu as a man who is not strong enough to tackle the situations of things in the country following his inability to bend properly while praying.

Nigerians are always Nigerians and will always be Nigerians wherever they are. Cashless policy is a very good idea but without any plan put in place, it was imposed on the people.

Tinubu has also shown the true Nigerian blood by removing subsidy without proper plan. So, nobody should blame him. Even you, na so you dey. E get small small law wey you go pass for house based on one perceived idealogy wey you never explain to your wife and children how e go work well. E dey in us. oikirodah:
Tinubu's Presidency, Oshiomhole's Relevance, And NLC's Threat: A Way To Go

By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

Was it a booby trap or was it for camaraderie? The recent implementation of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria, just before Tinubu's emergence as president, raises questions about its true intentions. However, the consequences of this decision are evident, with Nigerians now facing the harsh realities of increased living costs.

Once considered an affordable country to live in, Nigeria has now become a place of luxury, especially considering the minimum wage of its citizens.

The removal of the petrol subsidy has resulted in low commuter numbers in cities across the nation, causing people to drastically adjust their daily movements while fearing the imminent rise in the prices of essential commodities, including food items.

The prevailing reality is that the wealthy elite have feasted on the nation's resources through this subsidy, which the president claims can no longer be justified due to depleting resources.

Tinubu, the newly sworn-in president, is seen as a Superman figure, expected to take charge and confront this longstanding issue. With his background as a sound accountant and skilled negotiator in the finance sector, Tinubu should have the means to alleviate the plight faced by the people.

Tinubu has wasted no time in hitting the ground running, engaging in extensive meetings with key sectors, including the labor unions, to seek solutions and ameliorate the plight of the citizens resulting from the removal of the fuel subsidy.

One key ally in these negotiations with the NLC is Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, the former president of the NLC. His involvement underscores his relevance and usefulness to the present administration, where negotiations and adherence to the rule of law are of utmost importance.

Having previously served as a labor leader, executive governor, and now a senator, Nigerians look up to Adams Oshiomhole not only to provide favorable legislation for the masses but also to offer valuable advice to the ruling government, given his significant role in bringing them to power.

Oshiomhole's fiery personality and his campaign promises of Tinubu's generosity towards the youth, women, the vulnerable, and the masses have instilled renewed hope in the people.

As Tinubu marshals plans to restore pride in Nigerians' heritage, it is imperative to acknowledge individuals like Adams Oshiomhole, who are expected to bring their relevance to the fore.

The NLC, too, should stand on the path of truth and justice and lend their valuable support to Tinubu's administration in tackling the fuel crisis head-on. Going on strike at this crucial point, as the new administration takes off, would only be counterproductive.

Tinubu has made promises to address security concerns, revitalize the economy, create job opportunities, improve agriculture, enhance infrastructure, reform monetary policies, and strengthen foreign relations—all of which will have an immediate impact on the lives of Nigerians. As the country embarks on this new phase, it is vital to maintain a positive outlook and contribute to the realization of a better future for all.

The removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria has brought about significant challenges for the citizens. However, with Tinubu assuming the presidency, there is hope that his leadership skills and expertise will be utilized to alleviate these hardships.

The relevance of Adams Oshiomhole and the support of organizations like the NLC will be crucial in the success of Tinubu's administration. As Nigeria moves forward, it is essential for all Nigerians to remain optimistic and actively contribute to the achievement of a better future.
