Politics / Re: Shettima Rejects Akpabio, Says South East Can Produce Competent Senate President by Dicado: 11:37pm On May 14, 2023 |
You don't just pick just any person as your senate President because of where he hails from. You also need to consider if he's a stamp duty (do as I say) kinda person or someone who would fight you. So, viewing from things, right now at this very moment, it will be very hard for the South west to trust anyone from the southeast to do anything the president says. |

Politics / Nigeria's Love For Unhealthy Tradition: Exploring The Story Of Garri by Dicado: 11:24pm On May 14, 2023 |
This content defines Nigerians at large. You could be reading the definition of yourself as this is an analysis based on the majority. Back when I was in school in 2013, we had a special talk by a professor from Norway. He had traveled around Nigeria for a very long time, about 20 years! After his talk, he shared what he learned about Nigerians, especially those in the southern parts of the country. He found out that garri was a very popular food that people loved to eat. But here's what surprised him: Nigerians had been making garri the same way for a very long time. They didn't change the way they processed cassava into garri or how they stored it. The problem with this was that sometimes the garri got dirty because many people touched it, and rats even pooped on it sometimes! But even with all that, people still ate it, even if they knew about the rat poop. Can you believe it? The professor also saw that when garri was sold in the market, it was exposed to flies, bad weather, sneezes from sick people, dirt from shoes, lizards, and even pets! So, the professor wanted to help. He started teaching people how to package and store garri in a better and safer way. He traveled to different states and held many classes. Some people listened to him and started making garri using modern methods and packaging. But you know what happened? After 13 years, he realized that most Nigerians still preferred the old way of making and selling garri. They didn't buy the garri that was nicely packaged in factories. This made it hard for those companies to keep going. Some of them had to change their plans and sell garri in big bags instead of fancy packages. This made the professor wonder about Nigeria. Why were people resistant to change at home but open to it when they went to other countries? In the end, the professor realized that this problem wasn't just about garri. It went deeper and affected many other things in Nigeria like politics, technology, and economy. Nigerians seemed to like doing things the same way they always had, without trying new and better ways. This is like being stuck in a box! The professor also noticed that when Nigerians traveled to other countries, they were more open to doing things differently. They liked trying new things and changing their ways. So why was it so hard to do the same thing at home? To sum it up, this story shows that Nigerians really love their traditions and find it difficult to change, even when there are better ways. This doesn't just affect garri, but many other things in Nigeria too. If we can understand this and start being more open to change, it will help our country grow and improve. |

Culture / Nigerians, As Good As Local Garri: Resisting Change And Embracing Tradition by Dicado: 3:52pm On May 14, 2023 |
During my school days in 2013, my department organized a seminar where a Norwegian professor was invited to present a paper. At the end of his reading, he decided to share his observations and views about Nigerians, as he had toured around Nigeria for 20 years. In his two decades of exploration, he discovered that garri, particularly in the southern states, was a common and popular food. However, he noticed that the people had maintained the same traditional method of processing cassava into garri for ages, including the storage method. This method posed some safety concerns because, as the unpackaged garri moved from person to person, it was exposed to many dirty hands. In some cases, rats would defecate on it, yet it would still be consumed, even if the consumer was aware of the contamination. He also discovered that at the markets where garri was sold, the food was exposed to pecking flies, cold and wet weather, sneezes from sick people or allergic reactions, footwears carrying sand, lizards, pet animals, and more. Motivated to help the people, he embarked on a mission to educate them on how to package and store processed garri. He conducted numerous seminars across different states, and to some extent, he succeeded in inspiring some people to professionally manufacture, process, and package garri. However, what did he discover 13 years later? He found that most Nigerians still preferred the locally processed and unpackaged garri. As a result, some garri companies faced financial difficulties because fewer people were buying their industrially packaged garri, leading to a decline in their numbers. Those who couldn't close down switched to wholesale in "local big bags" rather than the advanced packaging they had initially adopted. This revelation led him to uncover more profound problems in Nigeria. It became clear to him that this attitude was not limited to the food sector alone but permeated all sectors, including politics, technology, and the economy. He realized that Nigerians were reluctant to try doing the same things differently or from an improved perspective. They seemed content with sticking to the familiar pattern as long as it served its purpose. This represents the issue of being "stuck in a box." Shockingly, he also discovered that the same Nigerians who were resistant to change in their homeland quickly adapted when they traveled to foreign nations. But what could be the problem at home? He asked. In conclusion, this narrative highlights a deep-seated tendency among Nigerians to cling to traditional practices and resist change, even when presented with better alternatives. This mindset has implications beyond the realm of garri production, extending to various sectors of Nigerian society. Recognizing and addressing this resistance to change can open doors to growth and progress in the country. 1 Like 1 Share |

Let them get away! When they were rigging for a Muslim Muslim ticket, what were they thinking? They're still thinking that they'll occupy all top positions with Muslims and expect peace and unity in the country? This is the only country where the Christians in it are dumbbells. Look at how Muslims are claiming right from Presidency, vice and now to NASS. Let's just know that the country is now an Islamic Republic so that others will find their way. They don't even know what they're walking into because this time around, even Niger Delta wilk join the agitation struggle ijustdey: |

It's normal. Just make sure he has your preferred name on his school documents and let his school friends call him by your own preferred name because that's where he'll spent most of his time. That's all. As for me, my father has a name he calls me, my mother has hers, likewise my grandmother and grandfather (all departed). It's totally normal and trust me, if your in-laws don't have any name different from yours for your children, just know that they don't love the child that much. joeargy: |

Oboy, this one no be by who got her pregnant. These roadside beggars are very vulnerable to rapists as they sleep outdoors and have no protection. Men can also use money to lure her. She's clearly not educated enough to know how to prevent pregnancy like your wife do. People like this need your help and not your complaint. post=122929905: |

Forget this rubbish... Egypt is a serious racist country. They hate black people with passion. So, they were looking for excuses to chase them. What did the soldier do that resulted to the fight? It could even be that the soldier started abusing them. So, if it's Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and other Northern African countries deporting black skinned Africans, I won't be surprised because it's their habit. EcoBrick: |

This is the only way to boycott Igbo Elder's request since they're unable to call their son Obi to withdraw the case against Tinubu. The position has to be zoned to either the South south or South east bur currently, the Southeast is at war with Tinubu's qualification for President. If they should withdraw their case from court today, Igbo tribe would get many positions from Tinubu. Naijalarry: 1 Like |
