You are funny, let the population of Owerri residents not deceive you. Orlu local government has more population than the three Mbaise LGAs. Let not the last election deceive you my brother. Go through the voters register and take a look. Mbaise was eager to produce the governor and they all came out. Those LGAs you called were probably not passionate about the last election. Why not say Ideato rather than calling Isu. Foreigners stay in Owerri and even Imolites from Orlu zone reside in Owerri. The schools there also is a factor for the huge population. So don't say it belongs to Owerri zone. I repeat, no zone alone can defeat Orlu zone. But I believe in rotation of power to enhance development, but not to be given to criminals in the name of zoning. Just look at how Ohakim wasted the chance to develop Okigwe.
Orlu urban lga is the most (indigenes) populated lga east of Nigeria. Take this to the bank.

Orlu lga is also one of the three largest lgas by land mass in Imo state.

In the last fair guber election of 2011, Orlu urban lga produced close to 50,000 votes.

The two Owerri lgas that mostly make up Owerri capital territory produced about 30, 000 votes.

No other lga came close to Orlu's number of votes.

Okorocha got the highest number of votes from Orlu urban lga, but denied Orlu what it deserves..

Okorocha's deliberate denial of Orlu what it deserves is now his greatest headache for his succession plans.

Any Imo governor who neglects Orlu urban lga is like a presidential candidate who neglects Kano and Lagos.

Nigeria's war heroes are people who carried out summary executions of unarmed Biafra civilians, and those who plotted use of starvation to kill millions of infants in what they said was a civil war.

The only thing "booming" there is schools, hotels, fast foods and joints. Tell me which other business is booming in Owerri? Remove those higher institutions around Owerri and believe me the price of properties will crash and believe me, a radical government is coming to do just that one day. Wetin dey Owerri? Please I'm begging you, stop deceiving people who are not from Owerri that this is like that tell them as it is.
Best thing to happen to Imo state is emergence of a radical and brilliant governor to redistribute tertiary education institutions from Owerri to Orlu and Okigwe zones that have nothing.

None of the other 35 states of Nigeria has all five tertiary education institutions in the state all in the state capital area.

Futo, Alvan, Poly Nekede were all in Owerri when Owerri-born former governor of Imo state, Evan Enwerem defied all opposition and still located IMSU in Owerri despite the existence of better facilities in Orlu then.

Former governor Ikwechegh awarded jobs for asphalting of Orlu urban roads and drainage system.

The job stopped abruptly immediately after Ikwechegh left, the urban roads and drainage system remain undone till today.

Education › Re: Yoruba Mandatory For Admission In Lagos Tertiary Institutions by discusant: 11:23am On Feb 12, 2018
Vado:
By
Wumi Akinbode February 12, 2018

All candidates seeking admission into all tertiary institutions in Lagos State must henceforth possess credit in Yoruba Language, the state Yoruba Language Preservation and Preservation Law has said.

The law, which became effective last Thursday, would now make compulsory for all primary and secondary schools – private or public – in the state to include teaching of Yoruba Language as a core subject at all levels.

The state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, had formally signed a bill into law “to provide for the preservation and promotion of the use of Yoruba Language and for connected purposes,” thereby making it the first state to enact law seeking to preserve and promote its indigenous language.

He signed the law alongside the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olawale Oluwo, his Information and Strategy counterpart, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade, among others.

He equally signed six other bills into laws: the Amended Land Use Charge bill, School of Nursing bill, Cooperative College bill, Cancer Research Institute bill, Amended Customary Court bill and the State Electric Power Reform Law on the same day.

However, the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion law provides that all the laws in the state “will be translated into Yoruba Language. Moreso, all state-owned tertiary institutions are to incorporate the use of Yoruba Language in the General Studies (GNS) courses.

“The use of Yoruba language shall be an acceptable means of communication between individuals, establishment, corporate entities and government in the state if so desired by the concerned. It shall not be an offence for a person to speak Yoruba language by the state government,” the law reads in part.

Specifically, the law stated that any school in Lagos State that “fails to comply with the provisions of Section 2 commits an offence and is liable on first violation to issuance of warning and on subsequent violation be closed down and also pay a fine of N500,000.”

After the governor approved the legislation, Bamigbetan explained the socio-cultural value of the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion Law, 2018, which according to him, is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

With the new law, Bamigbetan said Yoruba language “has become mandatory for all candidates seeking admission into our tertiary institutions. Yoruba will now become a major requirement to engage in normal business communication in Lagos State.

“This is a clear and conscious commitment to the position which Lagos State prides Yoruba language as the cultural vehicle for us to be able to articulate our position and it also shows that Lagos has further recognised the importance of language as a vehicle for development.”

He said anyone seeking admission into the Lagos State University, Lagos State Polytechnic, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Lagos State School of Nursing and Lagos State College of Health Technology, among others must have credit in Yoruba language.

borntoexcel2000:
The State Security Service has invited Kassim Afegbua, the spokesperson of Ibrahim Babangida, to appear before it, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The invitation came via a telephone call from the secret police and it asked Mr. Afegbua to be at its headquarters no later than 11 a.m. Thursday, both Mr. Afegbua and his lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday night.

The invitation comes hours after Mr. Afegbua turned himself in at the Force Headquarters in Abuja after the police declared him wanted for writing a disputed statement on behalf of Mr. Babangida, who led a military junta that ruled Nigeria from 1985 to 1993.

Mr. Afegbua signed the statement for Mr. Babangida on Sunday, in which the former military ruler expressed his misgivings about President Muhammadu Buhari and called for a younger leader to emerge in 2019.

“We will honour the (SSS) invitation by tomorrow morning,” Mr. Ajulo told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Wednesday night. “We will be there, if that is how they want to run this country, we’ll see how far they can go with this.”

Mr. Afegbua’s ordeal in the hands of federal authorities had been strongly condemned by civic organisations, including Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, who warned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately back off the matter because it infringes on Mr. Afegbua’s rights.

The authorities have not been able to answer questions of whether Mr. Babangida filed any complaint against Mr. Afegbua, or what parts of the statement Mr. Afegbua signed were capable of inciting the public as the police alleged.

Mr. Afegbua said Mr. Babangida remained solidly behind him and that the former leader had been making efforts to ensure that no injuries would be inflicted on him by federal authorities.
