Islam › Re: Muslims: What Did You Learn In Islam Recently? by DisGuy: 8:05pm On Jan 07, 2011 |
azharuddin: A very good article i came across about being religious and having good manners at the same time.
Manners and Advice
Many of us, though we may have sincere and righteous intentions, have recently misplaced our ahklaq (i.e. we have lost our manners). Many of us (myself included) have forgotten the proper way to advise our fellow Muslims. When we advise our brothers and sisters if they are doing something incorrectly, we must remember to do it for the sake of Allah (SWT) with the best of intentions. The believer looks for excuses, not blame for his brother. We want the best for our brothers and sisters and hence we advise them because we love them, not because we think we are better than them. For if we think we are better than them, then this is arrogance and pride, and arrogance and pride was the sin that got the rejected and accursed devil kicked out of paradise and damned. We should not think we are better than others. We need to humble ourselves and be thankful that we are in a position to advise others. We shouldn’t advise people harshly, rather we need to be gentle, yet firm. The Messenger of Allah (saw) was the best of examples sent to mankind and he would be gentle with others. We have heard the hadith of the man who urinated in the masjid and the Prophet (SAW) handled the situation in the most eloquent of ways. Nowadays, if a brother is praying without a turban or a "kufi" (head-covering) or his pants below his ankles in the masjid, we may berate him, but is this really the best way, will he continue coming to this masjid? There may be a time for harshness, but many of us are not in the situation to handle it as we are the laymen.
With that being said, we need give advice in private. None of us likes being called out in public and hence we should treat others the way we would want to be treated. Additionally, when we receive advice, regardless of who it is from, we need to be thankful and considerate of it. In general, it takes courage to give advice and when one receives it, we should pray for that brother or sister that advised us because they love us, regardless of whether they are correct or not.
We need to be on our best behaviour at all times for our akhlaq may be what draws people to our beautiful and truthful religion and way of life. Nowadays, the brothers with the big beards or the sisters with niqaab are the ones that seem to be the most intimidating, but this is incorrect. We should set good examples. Who said to be religious means to be stern and harsh? Often times, harshness by our brothers and sisters may scare off those people that are young and new to the religion. Wasn’t there one point in our lives not long ago where we may not have turned out the way we have if it wasn’t for someone who was gentle and kind to us in their teachings?
The salaf (our pious predecessors) used to study ahklaq (good manners) twice as long as they studied knowledge. How much time have we personally devoted to purifying our souls and being steadfast in our manners and characteristics. The Prophet (SAW) said, “I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners” (Abu Dawud) so why not aim for the highest part of paradise. We need to be gentle, honest, and sincere in our character and manners.
This is just a short reminder to myself first and foremost and then to all of you for we know the reminder benefits the believer. And of course, if you have any advice for this group, please let us know so that we may all benefit, insha Allah. May Allah (SWT) allow us all to have the best of manners, to attain the highest part of Jannah, and to love one another for the sake of Allah (SWT). Ameen
Ameen As-salaam alaykum many thanks |

JUST passing through, isn't it obvious that if you have done ICAN before ACCA you will find ACCA easy?? I mean you have done a qualification derived from ACCA and localised some aspect, then you go on to do the real thing probably with some working experience- then again think about the resources available to you during that time, you'd most probably have done it after in Nigeria, whilst working, after university etc etc after studying for a BA in accounting studying for a master level accounting and finance qualification wont be that much harder would it? now where is the exit button |

Atreides: Oh okay. Y'know,i'm all for feminism and whatnot, but i'm also a realist, and the facts are there are certain things that are a 'wife's' work. If,no scratch that, when i marry a good man,one who is a good husband to me and who loves and respects me the way he should, when im married to that man, then making sure his clothes are washed will be just another way i show my love for him. It won't be a big deal. It's something i would want to do. In any case what's so difficult in putting his clothes in the washing machine? Won't i do my own laundry too? absolutely nothing at all, it only takes a couples of seconds with the right setting and enough washing powder- just the way you put it . . .'my responsibility as a wife' |

I didnt say it IS this and that. sure, was only saying if you're thinking like this at your age (very commendable; at least in the ideal world) but then again you will probably change your view after going out with one or two douchebag, dem go use you like Levi's |

Technique
Ezeji’s training as an accountant has boosted his technique. He’s calculative in the box. Call him a fox-in-the-box striker and you won’t be wrong. Na wa o, of all the things about the striker's technique the writer could use, this is all he/she had to write? accountant?? this is piss poor!! |

Atreides: Whether i'll wash the clothes myself or not is not an issue. My responsibility as a wife would be to make sure his clothes are washed, whether i take them to a dry-cleaner,or use the washing machine,or wash it with my hands by the stream. The most important thing is that they are washed, dried and hung in his wardrobe. As long as i ensure that is done, then how i do it doesn't really matter. no wonder some nigerian men start moaning when they get to obodo oyinbo, they have been spoilt right from their mothers house to the marital home I thought you said you are 16 |

The US has done away with majority of it's manufacturing industries and offshored it to china. China is battling massive pollution as we speak. Cancer is the leading cause of death. That's the price for industrialization I guess. first we are talking about refineries, secondly the US didn't get rid of its manufacturing because of pollution but because of competition and cost of manufacturing, even dirty coal is still producing about half of yankees electricity |

competence is not the only thing you need to lead nigeria! You need to have people that actually have influence in their party, do you really think these two have an influence? they may be able to do the job quite alright but they will be bullied off the field
these two don't have any levels in their individual parties they cant convince anybody on their own |
building refineries is a double edged sword. it is a benefit and also a liability because of the pollution it will unleash on us for many generations to come. we are already a poor country. I don't know how well we will battle air, water, soil etc pollution and toxins. so let us continue with our french trading partner jejerly. The best solution is to strike a good deal that will give us a good upperhand so cost isn't too high.
If thats the case many countries will do away with their refineries, best option is to builder more efficient refineries and TO BE HONEST I CANT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME NIGERIA GOT THE UPPERHAND IN ANY NEGOTIATION |

kcjazz: I don't know if this is the same thread anymore. Too much history lol. Well, I have a question since we are taking about creative entrepreneurship.
Lets look at existing business owners for example a private primary school. Why do they have to operate from Monday- Friday even with the power situation in the country? I would expect almost all of them to operate 4 days out of 5 and save costs. They are paid per terms not by the hour and they are paid for students to pass exams. If I want to run a school, I would consider that. It saves costs of maintenance, teachers salary and makes kids happy you are basically saying goodbye to your accreditation/license, and dont forget your primary school is also acting a a day care centre, working parents will have to beg/pay for someone to look after their kids during that weekday they are missing school- or maybe you just want a sportsdayInstall Solar panels/Wind turbines from the beginning and recycle rainwater for the toilets |
Politics › Re: Why Does Nigeria Lack Creative Entrepreneurs by DisGuy: 1:30am On Jan 06, 2011 |
Are you saying you didn’t attend university? Yes.
Why? In actual fact, it was my ambition to study law but unfortunately I did not. You see, in our time, there was so much life. This generation is not as lucky as ours. We wore good clothes and good shoes. There were lots of shopping centres along Marina including Kingsway, and UTC. There was so much frolicking during our time. It was never about poverty or of not being privileged . Infact I was called “chop life” then because there was too much to enjoy. I think our real problem is reflected even in Dis Guy and Katsumoto's comments. We only seem to look at what the West is doing, and try to copy them or their ideas, or their philosophy, and somehow it results in lazy thinking from all of us. The sources from which we draw the so-called insights are also bad; textbooks, CNN, and other Western media. No personal insight, no personal experiences, no nothing. Because someone said it on Wikipedia or your professor wrote the book doesn't mean it is the only view, or the only right view, or that it is even correct.
Even here on Nairaland, you don't get to see too many people talking from personal insight or experiences. People just google up stuff and use them as basis points for argument. And we're talking about creativity here. Get the point? you did mention in your first post, most of us are students so. . . |

Creative entrepreneurship always starts on the small scale. Whether Ford, Gates, or Zuckerberg, it's always some little guys who provide that killer idea that strikes to the heart of what the people want. Backed forward looking finance institutions ready to put their money in ideas that has never been tested, doubt many banks in nigeria will back/invest in some little guys, how many banks will even listen to a 24year old for example, the big cats with business experience are finding it extremely difficult to get loans, how will the little guys survive when the banks for example start calculating the interest the moment you sign the paper? |
