The only Governor of the 2007 -2015 Class who can touch Akpabio's coattails is maybe Fashola.

Forget how I dunk on Akpabio to keep people like him on their toes but he was a very good Governor. Asides initiating and completing projects, the executed ones are very durable. Roads and bridges Akpabio built haven't required renovation for most parts 10 years after leaving office.

And, yes, the man is right - nobody can touch his achievements; not even Peter Obi if we are being blunt.

For context, Amaechi and Uduaghan were receiving roughly the amounts as or more than Akpabio but Godswill towers above both of them combined for project execution.
He might inflate contracts (they all do) but he ensures the projects are done.

The ones here with underperforming governors who served concurrently as Akpabio but give their governors a pass or never criticise them yet want to nail him.

If there was no term limit and Senatorial District rotation agreement in 1999, Godswill would have edged it for a third and fourth terms. That's how much he's still loved amongst Akwa Ibom folks.

And, like Tinubu, Akpabio raised men and women. The new generation of politicians and multitude who got wealthy off state government benevolence trace back to Akpabio mostly.

I just take a dump on him because of the contract inflation all politicians are guilty of which is corruption in my books regardless of the good he has done. Still, none of these guys can touch Akpabio's achievements as Governor till tomorrow. None!

I disagree. Imagery is important when it comes to storytelling, but it is not everything. The acting of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino for instance can't be replicated on print. The background soundtrack of the movie and the emotions it triggers when watching it can't be transmitted through a novel.

The only way you can say The Godfather novel is better than the movie is if you are FAR more bibliophile than you are a cinephile.

No movie can recreate (not to mention better) the vivid animated verbal paintings of Mario Puzo. Reading Puzo's books then seeing the movie adaptations would have you immediately feeling like something is missing. You can't place a finger on what it is, but you know something is missing. Dan Brown's books are the same. The movie adaptations of "The Da Vinci Code" and "Lost Symbol" were even worse.

Hats off to Brando and Al Pacino but, no, nothing beats reading the actual books.

I don't know what information you're privy to, but some states are producing steady electricity. Since 2021 at least, Ibom Power has been producing 135 MW of electricity but NERC can only take up 80 MW which it feeds to the national grid through Aba. Nigeria's distribution system is as old as our independence. This I have in good authority. The other 55 MW generstrd goes to waste.

NERC also owes generation coys billions of Naira. I've have to check the exact figure.

Tell Tinubu to make a pronouncement making states truly able to distribute and see what happens.

With the way it works, NERC virtually controls whatever power the state governments generates and are owing in trillions.

As one of the experts puts it," Nigeria wouldn't have 24/7 electricity in the next 20 years. Not because we don't have the ability to but because NERC is setup to thwart and cripple GENCOs."

It means Lagos or Akwa Ibom or Abia would never 100% control the electricity they can ever generate because the NERC doesn't want its powers cut to size.

Nothing would work like a functional system. Something similar to China's.

1. Corruption and embezzling public funds should come with steep and the harshest punishments.

2. For it to happen, the judiciary has to be truly independent with its own purse. Right now an Umo Eno, Otti or Sanwo-Olu or Ododo has got his state's judiciary in his pockets while offering them public charity with our patrimony like he's doing them a favour a la brand new cars at intervals instead of such being constitutionally guaranteed regardless of the Governor's caprices. Most cases get quashed at the state level.

3. For the judiciary to work, the security apparatus has to work. The police, NSDC, and the Army are under the thumbs of the elites.

4. The Freedom of Information Act which GEJ passed into law should be executed across all strata. I have written to and walked into MDAs demanding certain information, including the expenditure on Ibom Air and the 21-Storey Smart Building Former Gov. Udom oversaw and it's been bureaucratic redtapes impeding me.

5. The 2018 Perpetual Injunction Nigerian state governors had the puppet judiciary place, barring us the citizenry from knowing the expenditure of security votes given to them has to be lifted. But that would only happen with a somewhat independent judiciary with its own purse.

In 2019, Ortom of Benue State got #31 billion as security votes alone yet insecurity was rife and we as citizens couldn't probe what he did with it. Udom got #21.6 billion but I can't get the breakdown.

Once we figure the five issues out, me are certainly on our way to the Nigeria we dream of. We've been dreaming for so long it feels so elusive now.
