@dmain

Forget that story, Lagos politics is not easy, Fashola is building infrastructure and maintaining them, let the president act presidential. GEJ is not our best president because we can talk freely, that is our human right, everybody negotiates, it is the term of negotiation that differs.

Fashola is building which infrastructure in Lagos. You have come with propaganda again. I live in Lagos and Lagos is full of pot holes and bad street lights. Please dont let me go on. Lets not jump topic. Thank you

Saunsi partically said the government in incompetent.

So what biased glasses ? Unless you are the biased one here. Even sanusi admitted it.

so what are you taking about

Sanusi did not say the government is incompetent. Dont try to deduce things from his speech. He is referring to how things cant work because of our political and partisan challenges translating into failures in government business. It is simple to understand unless you are wearing a bias tinted glasses

I do not believe government can not build and maintain refineries, sadly, I am coming to the conclusion that the Nigerian government can not handle any level of responsibility that it is given.

Nigerian government can not build and maintain refineries because of the nature of Nigeria. The political differences in Nigeria makes a lot of things in government very difficult. You wouldnt know until you work there.

BIGER BOY:

It's this simple.

Alison was transport minister in the past, she even cried on the state of Nigerian roads, what happened?

Iweala was finance minister in the past, she promised the 100 million dollars  savings from debt servicing will be used to fast track on mdg related goals, what happened?

GEJ was govt in the past and didnt achieve much, president for a time b4 formally elected, what achievement or even sign of achievement did he show?

So to hell with lack of trust, why should we trust pple who have proven not to be worthy of our trust in the past?

U tell me.

The lack of trust is not based on Nigerian's judgement of the individuals there right now but of the failure of government since independence. It is a buildup that has reached a peak. So zeroing it down to individuals is soooo wrong. You need to listen so you understand the debate before you comment. Lack of trust invloves all levels of government, not just federal government.

My take on this again is that, the cabals that have benefited in the time past and even now from this so-called fuel subsidy should be made to refund the money, so that the money can be used for the benefit of all.

The misconception about cabals is that they are committing a crime by importing fuel. They are not committing any crime. You can only prove they are committing a crime if you can prove they are involved in any kind of smuggling or they falsify import figures. Apart from that, they are doing legitimate business. The problem is that, the system has created avenues for them to enrich themselves. That is what GEJ wants to stop

100 billion is what Nigerians use for transport

double the price of fuel would cost Nigeria 200 billion Naira

No nigerian have that money

Thanks ben bruce smiley

Assumptions of Ben bruce:

1. That the price of transport will double when you double frice of fuel. Many parts of Nigeria, like the SE, buy fuel at over N100 already. So that wont make much difference
2.  That the price of fuel will double when you remove fuell subsidy. Well half truth that is. The price will increase but the coming in of private refineries will create competition and drive prices down

@GboyegaD

Go back and check most of my contributions. I discuss issues and dont just come here and insult people but we aint going to sit back anymore and take this nonsense. People like demdem dont discuss issues. Check out most of his posts. He insults people and derives pleasure in insulting the president of Nigeria. Like I said, we are not going to sit back and take it anymore. Both in this forum and beyond. It is enough. GEJ is president of Nigeria. If he gets it wrong, anyone can critisize. If he gets it right, anyone can applaud. But this ACN agenda to try to denigrate the president is gone too far. The last time, they even went as far as insulting how he dresses which is an insult on the whole Ijaw or Niger Delta race. It is enough and we will respond henceforth.

People like demdem are an example of arrogant Yoruba peeps who think they somehow own the country and can do what they like. (of course not all of them are like that). But we want them to know they have small minds and this is no longer 1970. They will be shocked in a few years time.

Una dey there dey shout about ordinary Lekki Toll gate. Am so surprised that nobody is talking about the fuel subsidy removal and introduction of toll gates by Jonathan. Isn't that enough HELL for Nigerians ? You can imagine buying fuel at exorbitant rates and you'll still need to pay for toll fess through ya anus ?! shocked

And we dey here dey yab Fashola. At least , we are paying for what we see rather than paying for what we are not seeing !

You guys should just brace up for more woes in 2012 !  May the Lord help us.

It is so sad that the only way these ACN freaks know to defend Fashola is by always trying to change the topic to Jonathan. You cannot hide behind that anymore. We can see thru you now. If Jonathan messes up, we will attack him for it. If Fashola messes up, we will also attack him for it. Saying we should think about Jonathan is a lame diversionary tactic that wont work. Fashola has become a tyrant and no amount of diversionary tactic will stop us from taking him on. Having toll gates on a highway is not the same thing as having toll gates in a residential area. This is the first time I have ever heard of toll gates in a residential area

First you posted that long post which I dont have the time to read. I am not jobless.

secondly, it is amazing how you cannot answer a simple question.

Thirdly I also want to ask why ACN as a party rejects removal of subsidy while the ACN governors all endorsed it. Something tells me its the hand of Esau and the voice of Jacob at work. Its also hypocrisy and deceit at its worst. Very sad.
Politics / Re: Why Fuel Subsidy Must Go Now, By Jonathan by dmainboss: 7:46pm On Dec 19, 2011
@Lanre_post

I will like to ask a very simple question, while ignoring your side talk about who I am because it adds nothing to the argument.

In the US and Europe where their economies have come crashing down, do they not have hundreds of eminent professors of economics who are ten times more qualified than Pat Utomi? I ask this because you seem to have taken a stand that what Pat Utomi says is the be all and end all of economics and should be the bible of the government. And if they have and these economists are employed in the various government agencies, why are their economies still going into recession? Please respond.

kokoA:

Quite a sensible post but I refuse to agree with you these are my reasons

Why must the masses be the only one to make sacrifices?

Why haven't Ebele thought it wise to meet with the political class to negotiate a reduction in their extremely large salaries and allowances? Isn't that another way of saving money for government? The sacrifice should be from both sides.

Where are the safety nets that the government have put in place to cushion the effects of this wicked policy? Where are they? I mean they can't just wake up one day and remove subsidy on petrol knowing fully well that it will affect the prices of everything?

What  polical will have this admistration shown in the fight against corruption to convience us that monies saved from deregulation of the oil sector will be used for the benefit of the masses? A government who can compensate a convicted criminal (Bode George) by offering his wife an appoitnmet on a federal board?

My brother do not let them decieve you.

My brother, they cannot deceive me. I am a business man and I know the basic of business. A good business man or manager must not spend more than he earns. Social security is supposed to be a good thing but in reality it doesnt ever work. Europe and America are paying the hefty price today. The economies of Europe is in shambles. One of the main factors that mitigates against the success of social security is population explosion. That is why countries like Saudi will be ok today but as their population grows, they will begin to face serious crisis too.

Like GEJ said, nobody just wakes up in the morning and says i want to punish the whole Nigeria. Nobody thinks like that except they are mentally unstable. Even when a president performs badly, it doesnt mean he actually wanted to perform badly. It might just be that he didnt get the policies right. So before we say yes or no to fuel subsidy, we must sit down and properly analyse tyhe pros and cons and not make it a "PDP want to kill us" thing. Our children will not forgive us if they have to suffer because we didnt take the right stand today
Politics / Re: Why Fuel Subsidy Must Go Now, By Jonathan by dmainboss: 5:19pm On Dec 18, 2011
It is sad that many here just choose to go the partisan way. Saying there is nothing like fuel subsidy is living in denial. Fuel subsidy was not started by PDP or GEJ. In fact, anyone who uses the term "for 12 years now" or "since 1999" is being partisan. Nigeria's problems did not start in 1999 or since PDP took over. Every problem in Nigeria today started in the 60s.

Some of you talk of securing the borders and its very funny. I will like to ask you. How come America with all its sophistication and drones have not been able to secure their bothers against immigrants? You think it is that easy to secure the border of a country. You think it is possible to secure 1000s of kilometres of border? Some of you are not realistic at all. You just want to deceive yourself and try to convince yourself you care about Nigeria or the masses. You definitely do not because only a man who really cares takes the hard decisions that need to be taking.

What GEJ is saying is so very simple that even a toddler can understand it. You cannot live above your means. Nigeria is living above her means and living  dangerously. Europe and America are currently in a crisis. If we dont make these basic decisions now, most of you will be so hard hit, you wont even know what hit you. Just saying the federal government should build refineries will not produce the money to do it. We have a country where the whole population of  around 200 million is living off oil. The fact that Fashola is increasing school fees astronomically and insisting on toll gate for Lekki are major signs that even lagos state economy is not as bouyant as they may want you to believe.

But the biggest problem of it all is that instead of proffesionals and politicians to come together and forge a way forward, they have turned it into a partisan thing and many of you here are drumming that partisan stance. It is sad

People like you should quit with the mock anger. As if the entire forum does not know what Beaf is about and his non-stop effort to make anything ACN look bad. In any case, was I talking to you? I was talking to Beaf and he knows precisely why I speak as I do.

When you lack the inability to put forth a good point, you always resort to this. Speaks volumes!

Gbawe:

What you write above is the joke of the year and a reason why posters like you should never be taken seriously. You accuse others of being partisan yet your bias against Aregbesola is obvious because of how you lie blatantly to malign his character.

Pray tell the forum the relationship Aregbesola has with those he released. If you cannot prove conclusively that Aregbesola "favored" those he "knows" then admit you are guilty of character assasination. Simple. Your talk is ridiculous considering that even the PDP folks making noise never accused Aregbesola of favouring those he "knows". If anything, Aregbesola should keep them in jail forever for allegedly murdering an AD Political aspirant .

Bias against Aregbesola is not a partisan stance. I believe you went to school. You looked partisan because you switched from a topic to a completely different topic. That is what made your comment partisan. You should have defended Aregbesola on his own merit not trying to make comparisons with GEJ. Even if GEJ was wrong and guilty, it still doesnt exonerate Aregbesola. The postulation that "we are not the only one who are bad" is very foolish and disturbing. Evil is evil. Evil cannot become good just because someone else did it also. The way you ACN folks turn a criticism of any ACN member into "At least it is better than PDP" argument is pathetic. If you believe that some politicians should get away with blue murder just because they are your kinsmen, then you have no moral standing to accuse others and no moral standing to post in forums like these. Cheers

Demdem:

I see no favour or nepotism here. U will need to prove that aregbe has q special interest to protect or this former accused is somehow related to him. This I doubt here. In the absence of that, Am sorry u are wrong. Secondly comparing our system to the advanced world is faulty and wrong. How many calls for resignation has been succesful in this country right from the fg to the states? Abegii, let's talk realistically here.

Of course, I expect nothing more than a partisan stance from you. Did you read the article? Please go back and read it

“It leaves much to be desired for any government, person or group to openly show sympathy to those who confessed to his killing and were duly convicted. “The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State wants Mr. Rauf Aregbesola and his National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande to search their conscience, (if they have any,) what would their families have done if they were in Olagbaju’s shoe.

“The PDP wants to ask on what grounds the ACN governor granted amnesty to the said self-confessed murderers?
“The corpse of Olagbaju (aka misty) will no doubt be turning in the grave. Where is justice?,” the PDP queried.

How do you wake up and grant amnesty to murderers? These are not petty thieves. Are they the only persons in that prison worthy of amnesty? With my knowledge of Nigerian prison system, there are many awaiting trial and innocent persons in that same prison. I can guarantee you that more than a quarter of the inmates would require amnesty. But you choose to grant amnesty to convicted murderers. That speaks volumes!
Politics / Re: PDP Condemns Aregbesola For Releasing Odunayo Olagbaju's Killers by dmainboss: 9:03am On Dec 17, 2011
Demdem:

U obviously didn't miss the part of the article that says its within the powers of the gov to do what he has just done. Anyway, like I said earlier it will be unwise to conclude definately without hearing from the camp of the gov. Experience has taught me not to trust the words of these chaps. At the same time, not to ignore it too.

It is also a crime in government to give favors to those you know. If it was in an advanced country, they will call for your resignation and you will have to resign or be recalled.

Gbawe:

I don't know the circumstances of the case so I won't comment on those released suffice to say you are only shouting aimlessly like a woman scorned in so far as the PDP already confessed that Aregbesola has done nothing wrong. By inference, it is obvious they are only unhappy with his choice of Prisoners to release. This is certainly better than how GEJ intervened to frustrate the course of justice via getting a man acquited of a murder charge simply because he needed delegate votes from the influential Teslim Folarin. When the PDP Govenrment actually announced the punishment of 5 years jail term for terrorists and their sponsors, are these Osun faction of the Party , much like you, not being hypocritical here? How long, since the murder happened in 2001, have these guys spent in jail in comparison to how the PDP will be happy to see terrorist who kill many to go home after 5 years or less?

It is quite disturbing to see young Nigerians respond to issues by making comparisons. This thread is about Aregbesola not GEJ. It is very lame to try to switch topic to GEJ just to defend Aregbesola. It only shows you are grossly partisan. Very unimpressive!
