If we do our Biafra agitation, you'd say it's because Obi was not declared. Now things are calm, you're complaining.

We don't wanna interrupt our enemies when they're making a mistake. Tinubu is heading for the rocks, we don't wanna interrupt him

Politics › Re: Insecurity: It’s Time For State Police – Osinbajo’s Ex-spokesman Tells Tinubu by DMerciful(m): 8:12am On Feb 04, 2024
You're ignorant. There will be federal police which will be the Nigerian police force for interstate crime or federal crime. There'd be state police for each state.

You're saying the populace should suffer insecurity because of the possibility of abuse by governors? How about putting checks and balance?
IkeOnyia:
State police is not advisable. Governors will use them with impunity to stiffle every opposition in their states. Also inter-state police coordination will be difficult and criminals will be the better for it. Imagine if someone from Kano commits a serious crime in Akwa Ibom and runs back to his state and the police in Kano shields him because they think his crime is backed up by sharia law or because Akwa Ibom has a rival political party there. The idea of state police must be jettisoned because it is a recipe for total collapse of the security of the nation.
Politics › Re: FG Is Still Paying Subsidy In Trillions ... Deny It by DMerciful(m): 6:32am On Feb 04, 2024
The truth is govt cannot run a profitable business or organization and that why Nigeria as a country is not being ran profitably.

Nitel, delta steel, NNPC, NEPA etc could not be ran profitably due to monumental govt corruption. Has nothing to do with subsidy
nairalanda1:
The government, naturally.

THere is a reason why I oppose subsides. At the end, there is too much opportunity for waste and stealing.

The thing is, if we had allowed NNPC to sell fuel at a profit from the refineries, and let the market set the price, NNPC would have been working for its money, and there would have been reduced stealing and no issues. Of course, no subsidy payments, so that issue is over.

Ever hear of sabotage, loss of equipment, etc , etc....at Glo, MTN, or even Nestle Nigeria? Sell at a profit, and you would ensure everything works well enough to make enough money. Don't sell at a profit, bring in subsides, then there would be no profits to pay for improvements, and the result would be scarcity and shortage.

We saw that in many communist countries where there was scarcity because government tried to subsidize food. Then they got rid of communism. Now, they are not perfect, but the shelves are full...plus crucially, you have your choice of brand...not just the old days when it was 'bread, meat, etc'.
Politics › Re: FG Is Still Paying Subsidy In Trillions ... Deny It by DMerciful(m): 6:19am On Feb 04, 2024
So whose covering all the loses from imported fuel since dollar keeps increasing
nairalanda1:
At the end, subsidy covers the difference between production cost and the set govt price. And most of the time it does not even adequately cover the resulting loss from selling below the production cost

Note that for a profit to be made, the NNPC and marketers has to sell above the production cost. Subsidy forces them to sell below the production cost, and the loss is covered by subsidy.

Even if subsidy covers the loss, it would be like me buying bread at N1200, selling it at the government price of N800, and government pays me N400. NIce, but at the end, I don't make a profit. I just get back my money. Meanwhile..if i sold it at N1500 a loaf, I would get back my money and make a profit. (Yes, that is how the actual market works).
Politics › Re: FG Is Still Paying Subsidy In Trillions ... Deny It by DMerciful(m): 3:15am On Feb 04, 2024
If govt is paying the loss, how did it kill the refineries
nairalanda1:
NO, they sell to us at full price, NNPC sells at a loss to the downstream, and government pays NNPC a subsidy to cover that loss.
Politics › Re: Until We EMBRACE Made-in-Nigeria Goods, FORGET About Naira Value Rising! by DMerciful(m): 2:47am On Feb 04, 2024
Stop gaslighting yourself!

You knew all these but was fighting Jonathan govt for exchange rate at N216, do you think importation started today?

Trying to hoodwink us from Tinubu's
astronomical incompetence will not work
Rostikol:
Can you see?

That's the problem we have!

Those who have the big money to spend, want to spend it on IMPORTED goods, for which their suppliers need dollars.

So how will naira value rise when there's no demand for naira, only DOLLARS?
Politics › Re: Until We EMBRACE Made-in-Nigeria Goods, FORGET About Naira Value Rising! by DMerciful(m): 2:44am On Feb 04, 2024
Does the government officials patronize made in Nigeria goods?
Rostikol:
Until we START TO LOVE, AND PREFER, and VALUE NIGERIAN-MADE GOODS AND SERVICES over foreign-made goods and services, FORGET ABOUT NAIRA VALUE RISING.

Until we PREFER to buy Nigerian made shoes, slippers, handbags, cars, sandals, clothes, watches, bangles, etc INSTEAD OF foreign made, FORGET ABOUT NAIRA VALUE RISING.

We have to start to see things like the Chinese.

A China man prefers to buy made in China, even if the foreign version from London is of better quality.

Why? Because he's thinking ''why should I enrich Europeans instead of my own people?''

And so, this makes manufacturing very profitable in China! And the currency very strong! There is more demand for the Chinese yuan than for the dollar!

Because the people PREFER made in China to imported!

Without that mindset in Nigeria, FORGET ABOUT NAIRA VALUE RISING.

We cannot have a mindset that laughs at a man for wearing 'Aba-made' shoes.

That's a destructive, ignorant, anti-African mindset that will lead us into the abyss.

THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THESE WOMEN WE CALL NIGERIAN WOMEN SPEND ON SO-CALLED BRAZILIAN HAIR ALONE EACH YEAR, IS MORE THAN 2 BILLION DOLLARS.

IMAGINE IF THEY DECOLONISED THEIR MINDSET, AND FAVOURED TRADITIONAL PLAITING AND WEAVING HAIR STYLES OVER IMPORTED PERMS, WIGS, AND FAKE HAIR, ......THAT ALONE WOULD GENERATE EMPLOYMENT FOR 3 MILLION LOCAL HAIR STYLISTS MINIMUM, AND SHORE UP THE NAIRA VALUE.

When do we wise up as a people?

It's not about pointing fingers at govt officials. They make up less than 0.2% of the Nigerian population.

We over-estimate their influence and capacity to alter society.

THIS IS ON US!

Just as we started to prefer Nigerian movies and music over foreign, which made those sectors BLOW to world class proportions, we can accomplish similar by preferring NIGERIAN MADE GOODS AND SERVICES to foreign made.

When we do that, THE ENTIRE COUNTRY WILL BLOW.

How did fg get 1.3 million barrel of crude to sell? The crude should belong to the states where they're found.

When we say lets restructure this country so the state governors don't go to Abuja, you'll still be the one to oppose it.

You people who have been opposing restructuring so that every state keep their resources and develop themselves are truly the lazy ones because you can't survive without Niger Delta Oil money
blacknp:
Even to export the raw commodities like rubber, cocoa, cassava, Indian hemp, palm oil which are all under the exclusive jurisdiction of the states of the federation on the legislative concurrent list we refuse to do, 220 million people are waiting for 1.3 million barrels of crude oil export from the Federal government to help them with foreign exchange?

Shameless people we are, let the likes of DMerciful Abia, bigkoko Kigali & Colorado Bobloco to come and explain to us the reason for our laziness?

See who's talking. You wey dey make people swear oath before commenting on Islamic threads on Nairaland nko.

The reason they hide the faces of criminals from the north and expose the faces of the ones from the south is the exact same reason you ask people to take an oath before commenting on Islamic threads and allow everyone to comment on Christian threads without oath.

Interms of records and data....Ronaldo is better! If Ronaldo was in Argentina team, he would have won probably two world cups

This is what Obi would have done but as for Tinubu, you cannot give what you don't have
festacman:
Managing the economy is more than fiscal and monetary manipulations. The key thing is productive economic activities.

- President Tinubu, please come back home sir. Nigeria needs a new economic foundation.
- Convoke a something like 'National Economic Conference' to develop a nationwide roadmap that will tap the economic potentials of geopolitical zones
- Set up a versatile economic think-tank and keep an open mind to their ideas. Look beyond Wale Edun and work with some crazy young minds to create out-of-box ideas for policies and programs.
- Develop short and long-term Economic and Development Plans and actively Implement it.
- Be positively strong-willed and don't sacrifice crucial things that MUST be done today for tomorrow's 2nd term. Nigerians will always appreciate positive results.
- Stimulate production in different aspects of the economy through incentives, make vital reforms of laws and processes, enthrone intentional concessions, etc.
- Move focus and relocate effort from attracting FDIs to encourage local industries, SMEs and entrepreneurs.
- Create more employments, boost local food production develop creative export drive strategies to earn forex.

He did! If 2027 wont be compulsory electronic transmission, we gonna give the govt the Sri Lanka treatment. We ain't going to court again. Any attempt to rig Obi again would be resisted.
Ibadanpikin:
The problem is can Obi even get the constitutional 25% votes in north east and north central. He did not even perform as expected in north central.
Politics › Re: Obi Should Step Down For Atiku 2027 by DMerciful(m): 10:42am On Feb 02, 2024
How will Tinubu win anywhere in the East when he couldn't win Lagos or Abuja?

The compromised judiciary struck out the evidence saying it was not frontloaded.

How can you frontload evidence that INEC refused to give you but you could only get some via subpoena? The act of getting subpoena already made frontloading impossible
Paraman:
I don't understand... Why did obi fail to tender all this evidence at the appeal and supreme court?

There's also a PDP from Abia or Anambra, who said Tinubu won his polling unit but magic happened and LP was declared the winner in the polling unit.
Politics › Re: Obi Should Step Down For Atiku 2027 by DMerciful(m): 10:38am On Feb 02, 2024
Even with PDP structure, he got only 800k above Obi inspite of the rigging against Obi. Atiku win North with very narrow margin. Infact Atiku was very disappointing
Ibadanpikin:
Atiku won in the north east,he also wins 11 states. He his the only one who can challenge Tinubu and APC in the north. While an igbo vice can win the election in the south.POLITICS IS A GAME.

Who cares about PDP!? There's no difference btw APC and PDP. Thats why we call them PDAPC!
Ibadanpikin:
It will be rigged again because he has no structure, especially in the north. It is better he accept becoming the vice or allow any of his tribal men becomes the vice.Let him humble himself and not contest because he will waste PDP votes.
