Liar! Its was during his incarceration that the insecurity in the East increase not while he was out. You're just showing your hatred for Igbos via NK. You did not wish same for Igboho
Sapasenator:
East has been peaceful since Nnamdi Kanu was locked up.

Let him rot in jail. As much as I detest Buhari, one of his biggest achievements was locking up MNK who was determined to set the east on fire.

Politics › Re: How Were Buhari And GEJ Able To Subsidize These 5 Items and Still Worked? by DMerciful(m): 9:54pm On Apr 04, 2024
But Tinubu is wasteful even till now. He subsidized pilgrimage with 90 billion while education LOAN is 5 billion
Jogs1900:
Obasanjo already removed subsidy on diesel and kerosene in his first term..
Don't forget that our excess crude account had $11.5bn in 2012 and was depleted to 2.5bn when Jonathan left office.
Obasanjo left the foreign reserve around $51bn..
All these savings were as a result of debt forgiveness and sales of national assets.

When Tinubu took over, Nigeria was in debt..We all heard that about 98% of our earnings would be used to service the loans previous administration collected...The best is to reduce government spendings and part is removal of subsidy.
Are you aware that Buhari administration already sold our crude oil in advance?
We subsidize but our economy can't afford the subsidy.Just like living above our means.

Politics › Re: Oyebanji: Tinubu Spoke To Me Everyday Until Abducted Pupils Were Released by DMerciful(m): 11:06pm On Feb 06, 2024
You guys did this dame thing with Bubu and that made him develop megalomania
AngelGabbyShara:
President Tinubu on phone with me everyday till abducted pupils were released, Oyebanji tells Afenifere leaders

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Tuesday disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was with him on telephone everyday till the abducted school pupils were released.

The Governor stated this while receiving a delegation of the Yoruba Socio-Political group, Afenifere, who came on a condolence visit to his office in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

The Afenifere delegation, led by the Ondo State Chairman of the group, Chief Korede Duyile, was sent by the National Leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti to commiserate with the Government and people of Ekiti State over the killing of two traditional rulers and abduction of some pupils of a private school and their teachers last week. The pupils and their teachers have since regained freedom from the kidnappers’ den.

Governor Oyebanji, who described the gruesome killing of the two traditional rulers as sacrilegious and “an affront to Ekiti people and the Yoruba race”, assured that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.

He also described the kidnapping of the school pupils and their teachers as a dangerous dimension, hence the need to mobilise forces to rescue the children.

He said he remained grateful to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu staying on top of the situation, a development, which he said motivated everyone involved to put in their best in rescuing the children.

“It will be a mark of ingratitude on my part, if I don’t say this here today, Mr President really tried, from the minute it happened till the last day the children were released, the President was talking to me on daily basis, giving appropriate directives on the way out. And I want Afenifere to thank him”, he said.

Governor Oyebanji said in spite of the release of the children, security agencies have continued the search for the perpetrators of the heinous crimes, and bring them to justice. This, he said, was necessary in order to put an end to the dastardly acts.

Speaking further, Oyebanji said the entire Ekiti Obas have taken it upon themselves to defend their citizens. “because, the question is if this happened to two Obas, then what is the fate of the subjects. So, they are putting in place structures to defend their people.”

“And I also plead with Afenifere that they should be united, so that they can work together, it is only in unison that this organization can achieve its vision as espoused by the founding fathers. So, we need a united front, collectively, we can combat this menace that is steering us in the face.

“I am grateful to Baba Fasoranti for sending this delegation of eminent leaders to commiserate with us. This speaks to the unity of our people. Afenifere had foreseen situation like this long ago, and that is why you have been clamouring for restructuring. Those opposed to the call then, have now joined Afenifere in championing restructuring, state or multi-level policing, among others. We need Afenifere to keep speaking objectively.

On calls on southwest governors be united on the issue of security, Oyebanji said: “It will interest you, sirs, to know that all the governors of the southwest states, are united on this matter of security. And we are collaborating on the issue. We have a common position, the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) slowed things down. We feel it would be proper to accord him the respect, and continue the process after his burial.”

Earlier while condoling the governor, the Afenifere leaders, who lamented the killing of the obas and abduction of school children, called for the restructuring of the country to tackle security and other challenges.

The Afenifere leaders affirmed the need to strengthen the South West Security Network codenamed Amotekun with necessary ammunition that would make the officers effective in tackling all forms of security infiltration into the region.

They expressed the group’s appreciation to Governor Oyebanji and commended the various steps he had taken to tackle the security challenges in the state and urged him to do more to protect the people.

They also called for an urgent review of the Constitution which they opined had become obsolete looking at the realities of the present situation.

Also at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, APC Chairman in the State, Barr. Paul Omotoso, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Jide Awe; Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode and Special Adviser on Governance, Hon Odunayo Ayeni.

Decentralizing the police to if possible local government level is akin to each community protecting their villages before the coming of the British to form the country Nigeria.

Before the coming of the British, small autonomous communities were able to protect themselves through arrangements like vigilantes that were very effective, which I likened to city police. We're saying the police should be brought back to that microscopic level. If the policing of a community depends on a person who is not from that place and stays 1000km away, how will it be effective?

As for the cons you said, the pros far outweigh the cons

Stop talking nonense, inflation has only increased by 3%-4%. States are receiving more allocations which should reflect in the state's infrastructures.
Politics › Re: What Are Your Thoughts On State Policing by DMerciful(m): 3:08pm On Feb 06, 2024
We Nigerians always look for reasons why change will not work rather than putting the necessary checks in place to make it work.

Our current security architecture is not working because its too centralized but you want us to remain stuck with it. Decentralized police structure is working well in other climes yet you're looking at Nigeria has having a unique problem.

Do you know what federalism is all about? You can call Nigeria a federal system yet doing things that are against federalism
Minsk24:
Because it works very well in Canada, does not mean that the cons are not valid, especially when u seek to apply it to Nigeria... while gun ownership is part of the problem, the law enforcement structure in the US is also playing a role in crime...

You keep going to the US! What is the crime rate in Canada? What is the crime rate in the UK?

The US have the second amendment that gives citizens the right to own guns so thats where their insecurity is coming from; guns in the hands of drug addicts and gangs.
Minsk24:
That is the same thing with the US, my disagreement with this method is the fact that the city police of US is controlled by the City council, and funded by it as well ..so if a city's economy is weak, it will affect police funding, what about personnel, some cities may find it difficult to recruit staffs...
Look at Washington DC city council trying to vote on a new crime bill to address rising crime rates in the city, Trump has vowed Federal takeover of the city if he wins....so u can see that police rules varies very much across different cities and this can lead to different crime rates in the country...
While i advocate for a certain level of decentralization, i believe the federal government must still be actively involved in policing....
Politics › Re: What Are The Governors Doing With The Increased Allocation? by DMerciful(m): 2:22pm On Feb 06, 2024
It has not increased interms of intrinsic value but has increased interms of face value. The money will still parchase far less versus what half of it could purchase about one year ago
femisplash:
The monthly allocations accrued to the states has seen a big increase since the removal of fuel subsidy. January 2024, FAAC shared 1.13trillion. In December 2023, 1.13trillion was shared, in November 2023, 1.78trillion shared. In August 2023, 1.13trillion was shared. These respective allocations were a big boost from 786billion that was shared on May 2023 at the tenure end of the last Administration. The President had a talk with the Governors over the subsidy removal and promised increased allocations to enable them cushion the effects and help them deliver to their people. So far, Governors haven't shown commiserable deliverables to the increase in allocation at their disposals. It appears to be that the Governors are less interested in driving the vision of the president than lining their pockets while their people groan and complain under their watch. The media are not putting the pressure on the Governors, everyone's eyes are fixed on the President.

In Canada, you have police even upto the city level. Each city has their own police. For example, Warri police, Owerri police, Ikorodu police. This way they're able to respond to crime faster because they know almost everybody within their domain
Minsk24:
I do not have a good idea of Canada's police structure, please educate me ..like i said, there are always pros and cons
