So Calabar was capital of Northern protectorate in 1897? Arguing with you is a waste of time! You can as well say Abuja was proposed in 1975 and that made it Nigeria capital from 1975!
jneutron4000:
The Geographical space named Nigeria was given in the year 1897. That makes Calabar the first capital of Nigeria

It's like a confederation of many countries in one big entity. The region pay like 20% to run the fg and the military. That's what USA , Canada does though not by ethnic group but by state. Different province here has different criteria for accepting immigrants even though its same Canada. Province negotiate trade agreement even in same country. Alberta sells gas to British Columbia who in turn sells electricity to US. I want same for my motherland!
LordVoldermort:
This idea is not so different from secession, if we cannot live together in peace what is the point of calling ourselves a country

How will we vote for president under regionalism? how will the military work? So dangote would restrict his business to one region? I think it's a good thing regionalism was abolished

That's why firstly I suggest restructuring and border adjustment. All the Yorubas should be in one region, all Igbos in one, all Ijaws , all hausas, some minority tribes can align to be together(they must have documents agreement) and so on, then we go back to regional govts. Where this is not possible, then we can breakup peacefully with good negotiations just like UK is doing with EU
LegendHer0:
Yeah agreed. The foundation is faulty and it’s even more hard to break up the country now.

There are lot of factors to look at when talking about breakup of Nigeria. How will the resources be shared? What will be the international policy about the Nigerians that have companies and properties in other people’s region?

What will be the fate of dangote refinery in Lagos in the event of a breakup for example? There are lot of things to consider and a lot of headache to overcome.

Most people talking about breakup have not yet given a clear and concise implementation and disaggregation plan yet but we just keep shouting secession secession without factoring in reality.

Osaze007:
It’s just border adjustment of kwara and kogi west Yorubas into greater south west that’s what you want

Southern protectorate wasnt Nigeria! Nigeria came to be in 1914 after amalgamation of Northern and Southern Protectorates! Firstly the Southern protectorate was first joined with the colony of Lagos and capital of the South moved from Calabar to Lagos. That is when resources of the South started going to lagos. But in 1914, the south and North joined together and Luggard's wife suggested the name Nigeria so Calabar was never capital of Nigeria.
jneutron4000:
Then you must have read beer parlour history. For the facts that Calabar port was built and used to exports labourers( slaves) and resources, your brain ought to decode that lots of activities went down dere.
https://www.britannica.com/place/Calabar
Help yourself with that link, and get the truth.
If any stuff you read online tells you Lagos is the first capital then have it in mind that it's written by a Nigerian or the Nigeria government, and the reason is that Lagos was the Capital when Nigeria gained her independence in 1960 so it was the first time the people of Nigeria moved the capital to Abuja in 1991 and they might want to lay claim that Lagos was the first which is bulshit. Let me educate you on why the capital was moved down to Abuja from Lagos, there are numerous reasons which you can find online why Muritala Muhammad proposed it, IBB excuted it such as the Geographical location of Lagos in the deep heart of Yorubaland, and because it is majorly surrounded by water and it vulnerable to external force, Abuja being more at the centre but the main reasons why Yoruba leaders of thoughs agreed that capital should be moved away from our land was because Nigeria is a multi ethnic country, they do not want our culture to be polarised and diluted also the first coup, Lagos state was captured by you igbo, second coup it was recaptured by Hausa fulanis during the biafra war, you Igbos want to come down to Lagos and bomb it despite the fact that it was Hausa fulanis that was killing you in the North. So the leaders of Yoruba school of thought feel it wise to support the move to move the capital to Abuja. Even some few years back some in the North I can really remember who suggested it, I think Sanusi or el rufai suggested Lagos should be made second Capital but we Yorubas kicked against it.

Awolowo had said oil and water cannot mix as at then so he recognized our peculiar situation. Awolowo was arrested because of treason whether rightly or wrongly but this was like 2 or 3 yrs after independence. If this is correct, why agree to be in a geographical expression you see no real future in? Same with Amadu Bello. I know Zik was forceful in advocating for 1 Nigeria but ratio 2:1 should have won. You understand what foundation means? Its difficult to change things now because the foundation is over 59yrs
set . People said there was no seccession clause but there was referendum (plebiscite) in 1963 or 64 to create midwest region. After Ironsi who I blamed for the unitary govt, why did Gowon not return it back to the regions instead started breaking the regions and if you look at it, he did it at the expense of the South. The truth is North backed Gowon wanted to abolish the regional governments because among the regions, they were backward but saw an opportunity in the actions of misguided Nzeogwu to bring the plan to fruition. Till today they are still opposed to going back to 1963 constitution!
LegendHer0:
See we always think our fathers are wrong but if we were in their shoes we will do the same thing.

Everybody want freedom, Infact that is the first right of human being and it is our dignity. The Awo/Zik/Balewa need freedom from the white men, they have oppressed us long enough and fighting for liberty is what a sane person will do.

South Africans also fought for liberty, just that the white man is adamant about the country and they held SA’ns against their will until their independence.

However you are right when you talked about them fighting after independence. They should have divided the country themselves right before independence although the white man actually want us to be one indivisible entity so we have been fuc*ked right from the origin.

If you like blame those late men from now till eternity, it dosen’t stop the fact that the current generation is more clueless than them. It’s an African problem, we can’t rule ourselves.

Even the Rwanda president that we all think was excelling is still clamping down on human right and still denying his people true democracy. Although I love him coz Na craze person fit use rule Africans.

Your video is compelling enough. So I take it that Gowon released him until a contrary evidence surface!
LegendHer0:
Bro I challenged all the Igbos on that thread to bring just one evidence either pictures/Videos/Newspaper archive to back up their claim that Ojukwu released Awolowo.

None of them was able to bring any one. Not even one.

What does that tells you? It tells you most of you are following the bandwagon of propaganda that was orchestrated by Sir Ojukwu and his cronies to pollute the mind of the Igbo man about Awolowo and also to justify the hateful profiling.

Now please, can you bring any evidence from a reputable source either image/video/ newspaper archive that can serve as an evidence of Ojukwu releasing Awolowo?

If you can’t bring any, then let’s end this discussion on this subject matter.

Note: I won’t accept the verbals of Ojukwu himself coz Gowon also said he released Awolowo but I chose to use an independent source as my evidence.

By saying Calabar was once Nigeria capital means all your write is pure fallacy!
jneutron4000:
let me do you a little favour by educating your ignorance self, first of all Calabar is the first Capital of Nigeria, though there were time in history where British had their administrative from Lokoja but the city of Calabar is seen as the first Niger coast protectorate until the late nineteenth century making Calabar the first official capital of Nigeria.
Secondly you sounded as a retard mentioning Niger Delta oil money as if Ondo state is not producing oil in commercial quantity, the oil money only Yoruba people are producing is far more than any ethic group in Nigeria. The South south has more than 6 ethnic groups that produces 80% of oil revenue only Ondo state producing more than 16% of the oil revenue, so if you divide 80% amongst the ethnic groups within SS region only Yoruba is contributing more in terms of oil money, so Yoruba had more in the construction of the 3rd mainland bridge with the revenue generated from Yorubaland. If not the stupid fraudulent system of government we Practice here in Nigeria where Federal government will take all the money generated from Yorubaland down to Abuja and start sharing it back to the states which they got it from in form of allocation. What only Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun states generates alone is enough to transform the whole Yoruba nation better that England, but what do we have, Federal government collect the money generated from Yoruba ports in Lagos, taxes collected from big companies in Ogun states, money generated from the gold mining in Osun state and money generated from the oil in Ondo take it all to Abuja then give us back peanut in form of allocation. It only this shithole Nigeria that Practice this system of money allocation.
For you to know, taxing runs a nation and natural resources is a bonus. As Nigeria stands Yorubas is contributing more than what's we are getting back. Yoruba land is the economic backbone of Nigeria and not the oil money from the south south.
Lastly Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo,Oyo,Ekiti, part of Kwara and part of Koji is Yoruba homeland and our world and we intend to make it better and hand it over to our children's generations and the ones yet unborn.

Yes..the Yorubas pioneered it but surprisingly when Igbos came on board Yorubas abandoned it. In the late 90s and early 2000s, all I was hearing from the West was restructuring but immediately Igbos said yes, let's restructure,
Yorubas started having double mind. Afenifere says restructuring, Tinubu Osinbajo says its unnecessary!
LegendHer0:
Bro no need of trying to be politically correct. If we conduct a credible poll now we will see that majority of Igbos actually desire a breakup from Nigeria.

The reason why most of you migrate to other region is not only because you love one Nigeria, it’s because of your land size and your population as the third most populous ethnic group.

Also, your land is not that good for investment and you need a larger and profitable market. Which explains why your most successful people made their money outside your region.

Well even if it’s restructuring the Igbos want most, then they gotta let people know coz a neutral person will actually call you a liar for echoing the thought of restructuring as Igbos goals.

Moreso, I think that world restructuring was actually pioneered by the Yorubas especially the Afeniferes. I might be wrong tho (I can research this more for its validity).
Politics › Re: How Yorubas Made Lagos Former Capital To 7th Largest Economy In Africa by DMerciful(m): 8:58pm On Dec 30, 2019
Yes..you have all these resources but afraid when breakup is mentioned. I'm sure SW will do excellently well, I'm also sure SS and SE will do well. And it would reduce Igbo influx to SW but why you oppose breakup when you have so much advantage beats me
LegendHer0:
Can I ask why the Niger Delta region is receiving that much allocation from the FG? Because of their oil right? That means they are privileged because of their natural resources.

The British made Lagos the capital during the 1914s period because of Lagos waters which is also a resources. Do you even know lagos port was built as far back as 1913 even before the amalgamation of Nigeria protectorate?

There are lot of countries in the world that are privileged because of the resources they have. Dubai, Oman, Qatar, etc. so why should lagos waters be any different?

Ibadan was actually the best city bar Lagos in Nigeria before the death of the regional government. It was a growing city with many firsts among firsts before the military fools truncated the system.

Even till now, Ogun state still boast of lot of industries and a revenue base that is the envy of most states in the SE. if you like say it’s because of its close proximity to Lagos, it dosen’t stop the fact that Ogun is a better state than most states in your region. Also note that Ogun state strategic location is also a resources on its own.

Even till now, Oyo state still boast of many companies with an IGR that will be more than like 3 or 4 of the states in the SE. What does that tell you? It tells you that the Yoruba people are actually excelling and those states you mention are developing at their own pace.

The take home from this is that the Lagos waters and strategic location is actually a resources on its own. That is what made the British site the capital there in the first place!

Again, you are twisting history. Awolowo said Nigeria is a mere geographical expression but Amadu never said that rather he said Nigeria is an estate of their grandfather Usman Dan Fodio so they have the right to use it as they please. You keep celebrating Awolowo but while he was alive, Yorubas were supporting Akintola. We always celebrate people when they are dead just like how Fela is being celebrated. I was well aware when Fela was alive, he never had this eulogizing
LegendHer0:
I am a realist and I don’t like trying to be politically correct.

Bro what is the unity about Nigeria? When have we ever been united? We have been having problem of tribalism even before independence.

We can’t even sustain our country for 6 years after independence when we plunged ourself into a war of tribalism and sorrows.

Check Nairaland front page, most guys here are not even always happy about the success of another tribe and they always resort to checking name first before they can celebrate success or condemn a criminal.

We should be realist, we actually don’t have a business delving into another state politics (except you reside there as migrant) in such toxic manner. The counter effect of that is that it breeds hate and heat up the polity more.

Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello actually understood this at the beginning which explains why they said Nigeria is just a geographical expression and we should recognize our differences always.
Politics › Re: How Yorubas Made Lagos Former Capital To 7th Largest Economy In Africa by DMerciful(m): 8:43pm On Dec 30, 2019
While I agree you've spoken well in this post but the truth is that the Igbos want restructuring. If Igbos originally want Nigeria divided, they wont be investing in other regions. The Biafran declaration was forced on the Igbos when the were killed in thousands during the pogrom.
This second declaration by IPOB is because
of second class citizen treatment. But if you are not being mischievous, what is Igbo leadership Ohaneze saying? Restructuring or Biafra?
LegendHer0:
Brother I understand how you feel and where you are coming from. We all want the same thing, a better country to call our own where our kids will enjoy the benefit of a sane country.

However both Igbos and Yorubas have different solution to this problems. Most Igbo want a breakup from Nigeria entirely while like 75% Yorubas want restructuring and 25% want a total breakup (Just an educated guess).

This leaves us with a situation where consensus cannot be reached. No knowledge is superior, each of these divide has the advantage and demerit of their approaches.

Please don’t see those against a breakup like your enemy and insult them, people most often see life from a different perspective. What we gotta do is to keep listing out the advantage of our approach so that we can inturn convince the people with a different ideology on why they should follow our cause.

Also look at it like this, I’m not sure the Igbos and Yorubas have anything in common tbh. I’ve gone over the Yoruba history that predates 1900 and I haven’t seen much contact between the Igbos and Yorubas. The Yorubas have been trading with the Hausa since 1700 upward or thereabout. Even psychologically we don’t have thesame approach to situation and that needs to be factored in when we are trying to ally for a common purpose.

The major problem of both Yoruba and Igbo is that we are too fixated on our strengths such that we see other people ideas like inferior or an act of cowardice. The earlier we both understand that we are totally different and the southern mantra is just a demographics title, the better for us. Only then can we forge a true alliance to solve a common problem.
