BusinessRe: Mexican, Carlos Slim, Is World's Richest Man With $67 Billion by dollyp1cute(f): 1:08pm On Jul 17, 2007
I don't give a rat's ass about the Carlos Slim or Bill Gates or Dangote or Oprah or any rich list positioning.

Am I a hater? grin

I like to read the autobiography though, to find out how to make my own dosh.

Isn't is absolutely wierd that a company would do a public offer at a price that's almost 50% off the market price of its stock? That's like management announcing to the whole world that it thinks its share price is severely overvalued shocked Or could it be that the market price was manipulated prior to the offer and is therefore totally uncorrelated with the company's fundamentals? I'm seriously wary of companies like this on the exchange sad
Is it the fact that the discount is 50% that makes you wary because price manipulation prior to offer is common. I don't think it should stop you from taking positions.

BACK to business,
with all this gist bout doom and correction, i am getting scared oooo
i am really exposed to the stock market especially the banking sector,
if the so called correction happens, how long do u think it will last before the BULLS come into the market again,
@Tmoni, you should not be scared there are still some positive things to look at like the declining of the dollar, it may just tempt some REAL FOREIGN INVESTORS to come in and not just Nigerians abroad but don't hold your breath Nigeria was still way down on the bottom list of countries that offered good ROI on stocks for last year.

Just try to ensure you do not have a lot of speculative stocks in your portfolio and even if you have, be ready not to be too sentimental or greedy afterall there is a cap on how much the stock can fall in a day.

As per how long it will take before the BULLS come back to the market again well maybe BIGBOY LARRY can bring his Crystal Ball for consultation.

My advice don't loose sleep the market has it's own mind / psychology sometimes which can defy all economics, for instance the UK stocks did not bat an eyelid when the interest rate went up a couple of weeks ago and we are still waiting the property doom.

I throway salute Mr Frank Iriri (I was going to say Frankiri grin), happy birthday to you, many happy ROI on your portfolio, long stocks and profit after tax.

Seriously though, have a great funfilled day and fulfilled years ahead.

I disagree with dollpno1 totally. The Nigerian market may be emerging but it is very wrong to describe it as being in shambles. I am surprised that you even want to be a part of something you have described in such terms.
Take a principled stand.
You are free to disagree with me after all there two sides to a mountain

My principled stand is to make money irrespective of circumstances and I am doing just that, like I said there are still a few choice companies. You don't throw the baby away with the bath water.

You go on and tell me it is not a sham when I can not access company's report easily on line, stockbrokers buy the choice stocks (NASCON) and tell folks they could not find the stock on ground. Price fixes, companies go on suspension indefinitely. Even a simple website they can not get right NSE is down half of the time.

Over here, I go online over to buy my stock when I want to easily at a click of a button without dealing with funky brokers, my dividends are paid at a click of a button, there is endless resources to do stock analysis and comparison, I can get 5 year company reports at a click of a button (Proshare Ng put a request out for company information donation) come on. Share price racks up rubbishy because an IPO is coming and you get a flurry of people being planted at strategic places to hype the shares and almost ram the IPOs down your throat, registrars can take 12-24 months to give certificate and may hold on to certs in order to avoid price falls.

So in Nigeria I am asking my brokers that my dosh has been with them for nearly a month trying to get this or that share and I never got interest. I opened a dealing account here over two years ago and forgot about it because I had sold all the shares called them to reactivate my password and saw a balance of 26pence apparently I had like 15p or so left in the account and they still continued to give me interest all the while.

There are still hiccups and cover ups even in the UK and US, I mean Enron is fresh in mind but not nearly in the ramification of what goes on on NSE.

So from my side of the mountain, it is a shamble. P.S Another word for shamble is Fiasco, disarray, disorder.

Do I still believe in Nigeria, yes and that is another principled stand, Nigeria is my motherland.

BIGBOYLARY:
@dollyp1cute,

What are you trying to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that NSE is a shamble or what and take a look at your conclusion
, i can't understand you undecided
Of course the NSE is a bit of shamble, and there is good money to be made now if you can gamble well before the wind blows to expose the anus of the crow then everyone will find his/her level. If you have done your home work to have bought a solid company then all you will need to do is have patience for the dust to settle before your stock picks up again.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by dollyp1cute(f): 10:20am On Jul 11, 2007
Totally on a non Technical level.

I find it hard to talk about Nigerian market as a "Normal Market" and @Roughcut all that capitalization business comparing it to South Africa is shambles, South Africa is seen as being more stable, transparent and less corrupted.

Unless NSE is properly regulated and transparent you can compare from now till tomorrow.

I keep reading of the so called foreign investors coming in to buoy the market and a few that i have investigated on are nothing to write home about just mushroom clubs of a few people who have dosh to launder.

I belong to an investment club in UK, so all I need to do is have a deal with a chairman of a company and bring money in whether by borrow or steal and they will also call me Foreign Investor, total rubbish.

The Foreign investor that will come in are post like coming in to raid to innocent muguns take positions have the companies make noise a bit while everybody rush to buy the shares, price goes up and they pull out.

These folks may be Foreign but they are certainly not investors. Now if Warren Buffet, Deutsche Bank, Longman Sachs and the likes to invest in Nigeria Shares then we have Foreign Investors. Companies like this however will probably prefer to invest in Asia and it's likes, the Asia equity market is equally booming if not better

A good and prudent investor looks for long term and short term, an investor will be interested in fundamentals e.t.c information which is not necessarily available. To get a simple company report, na wahala even when you get it the numbers may be just be that, numbers with not proof or backing. In as much as Nigeria market is flying at the moment corruption is still prevailing in the mind of so many who will want to invest.

There may be a few reputable foreign companies who will come in but I believe they will be Foreign Speculators.

Don't get me wrong there is still money to be made on the NSE at least in the short term.

Hi All,
I say we make our posts inclusive. For instance the post by EMMAACHILE on Access bank's data had me staring without understanding, the reason for this is the deluge of acronyms. I'm new here (the forum as well as stock trading), I would like posters to aid understanding of their posts by putting full words of their acronyms in brackets.
While reading EMMAACHILE's Post, acronyms such as PE, PAT & EPS flew completely past my head. Please help!
@Iwerebor
PE = Price Earnings

PAT = Profit After Tax

EPS = Earnings Per Share

If you are bothered about reading financial statement you will need to spend time to educate yourself.
Okay so what you know that the acronym EPS = Earnings Per Share what good does that do to you if you don't know it is comparative within a sector

You get my flow, if you want to bother about numbers then you really need to be bothered, there are a few sites that you can get info on just google up.

Is it just me or is anyone else fed up of IPOs huh especially when it takes them months to get my allocations.

How about giving me some interest for the 6-12 months they keep my money.

Oceanic is yet to digest in my stomach and I have not finished chewing First Bank, now fidelity, guaranty, FCMB, Dangote (some have not even got their DSR certs yet o) and they are all claiming to be good buys.

I will go with easimoni and enolase my belly is fool of IPOs let me buy and sell on floor. I mean in the time my money has been locked away in Oceanic's recent offer I have made good profit on floor shares which I can sell anytime if I need the money.

enolase:
Companies are in the habit of using media blitz and other tactics to "hype" their offers so people can rush to buy.

So as Easimoni has said, it is better to look well before you leap into that stock. Sometimes public offers are not the best when seeking good returns on a particular stock.

Cashcraft is useless from my own experience, they have a fancy site but zero customer services.

I agree with you Load. If we can not take positon, believe, trust and invest in our own people, nation; who and where do we invest. We have to build our nation ourself by investing in our people, trusting each other. Then we wonder why our country is not moving up like is suppose to. We just have to know whom to deal with, and how to deal with them. I don't have any problem dealing with Nigerians at all.
At a point though you begin to wonder at what expense do you want to build your country.

Loads:
Don't forget each time you invest in shares on Nigerian Stock Exchange you are doing business with a Nigeria, all the company executives become your business partners. If you put money in the bank, the bank becomes your partner and its Nigerian.
Forget that matter, you are speaking like an investor, 80% of people buying shares in Nigeria today are buying to double their money, their is no investor mentality (I also include myself in that 80%), check the no of people looking for tips on this site, even tomato sellers dey buy shares, they don't care for the CEO or whatever so far they can double their money and get out quick.

@Topic, I prefer dealing with any other race (except the eastern europeans) except Nigeria, but if I am forced to choose a Nigerian I will do business with a Northerner i.e. Hausa

Men I have heard this gist before o back in my 100 level days, there was a tape going around apparently some marine person giving testimony that they made attachment and that they usually follow people with bob marley and attack them e.t.c. they aborted babies to make placenta and relaxer, that is why if you use relaxer you or weave you look like mermaid e.t.c.

Come and see sisters pouring Guiness beer on their hair to turn it back to natural some went fari kodoro.

Me I no send o, I even started activiating my jeri curls more and attended fellowship nonetheless, my own response is if any mermaid like let her follow me she is just wasting her precious time, no be God create all the raw materials in the first place, Psssssssssttttttttttt

Anyway by the time we got to 300 level this same sisters doing fari korodo did an about turn and started sporting anita baker, tlc style weave infact they were changing styles every week and they did not only do bob marley they did soul to soul.

MY POINT, IT IS NOT GOOD TO BE IGNORANT

If you guys are serious about an investment club I am game.

In as much as i am risk taker, I am wary of investing in any club that does not have a properly registered company and legally binding constitutions with signatures and solicitor involvement.

The N10,000 or whatever monthly is not the problem but if for whatever reason there is some yawa, it will be a pain to fly to Nigeria and be looking for folks i have not seen before and making claims to get my money, with the Nigeria way of investigation , psst, too much hassle.

Anyway I belong to an investment club in the UK already, our club has been incorporated and registered in the UK and all members are Directors of the company with equal voting right, shares are bought in the company name. Our focus has been mainly UK but we have now ventured into Nigeria.
