Following a proactive investigation by the Met’s Cyber Crime Unit (CCU), Dan Aiyegbusi, 23 (10.07.96) of Eastern Boulevard, Leicester, was sentenced today (Tuesday, 28 January) at Southwark Crown Court.

He had admitted to never working a day in his life and colluded with organised hackers in the UK and internationally to launder stolen money.

Aiyegbusi had previously pleaded guilty to five separate counts of money laundering, totalling £41,150; possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (crack cocaine) and Class B drugs (cannabis). He was also sentenced today for the crack cocaine and cannabis supply - both of these additional matters also having been investigated by the Met’s Cyber Crime Unit.

He pleaded not guilty to three counts of money laundering totalling £2,167,410 and was subsequently found not guilty in relation to these other counts following a trial at Southwark Crown Court in December 2019.

During the trial, the court heard that prior to his arrest by the Met’s Cyber Crime Unit for the money laundering offences, Aiyegbusi had been stopped by officers from Essex Police in Colchester and found to be in possession of 49 rocks of crack cocaine.

Controversial Catholic church priest, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, performed spiritual cleansing of the Imo State governor’s office, as Senator Hope Uzodinma assumed office on Wednesday, , Ton trends has reported. 

Security men and civil servants at the State Government House in Owerri, the state capital, told our correspondent on Friday that the priest, who had predicted the victory of the new governor in his prophecies on new year’s eve, was at the Government House for over three hours on Wednesday when the governor was sworn-in.

Mr Olayinka Bernard Adeleye, a 30-year-old man whose photograph was published as that of the Nigerian – Dauda Onoruoiza who died alongside other 176 passengers in the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 800 crash in Tehran last week- has cried out that he is alive.

Adeleye who is the head of department, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps ( LNSC) in Odi – Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area ( LCDA) in Mushin said that those who used his photograph as identification for the Nigerian that supposedly died in the crash has caused him and his family enough trauma.

Gedson Fernandes has completed his medical with Tottenham ahead of an 18-month loan deal from Benfica.

A formal announcement on his move is expected in the next 24 hours.

Benfica agreed to deals with Tottenham and West Ham but Fernandes has opted to sign for Spurs, who are managed by fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho.

Spurs will have an option to buy Fernandes for 65m euros (£56m), after Benfica accepted a higher loan fee for the 21-year-old.

Access Bank Plc has vehemently denied reports that its Group Managing Director, GMD, Herbert Wigwe has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud.

Some online news sites had reported that the Access Bank boss was arrested for his connection with the assets of former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, alleged money laundering for former petroleum minister, Deziani Allison-Madueke, as well as alleged inflation of contracts linked to former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

In a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, January 10, 2019 by the company secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, denied the reports, stressing that its officials were only invited for interrogation over credit facilities that were availed Slok Nigeria Limited (owned by Orji Uzor Kalu) by the defunct Diamond Bank plc (which Access Bank had inherited following its merger with Diamond Bank) and which were secured by Slok’s assets charged to Diamond Bank.

In the statement, the bank further explained that the issues had been resolved.

The U.S. military tried, but failed, to take out another senior Iranian commander on the same day that an American airstrike killed the Revolutionary Guard’s top general, U.S. officials said Friday.

The officials said a military airstrike by special operations forces targeted Abdul Reza Shahlai, a high-ranking commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps but the mission was not successful. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss a classified mission.

Officials said both Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Shahlai were on approved military targeting lists, which indicates a deliberate effort by the U.S. to cripple the leadership of Iran’s Quds force, which has been designated a terror organization by the U.S. Officials would not say how the mission failed.

Nigeria’s University Commission (NUC) made an open remark on the decision to unbundle mass communication as a single degree course in Nigerian universities, is to meet present demands come March 2020.

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rashid in a chat with Nigerian Journalist at Abuja disclosed that Mass Communication will no longer pass for a single course of study in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, according to the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He further expressed that the era of Mass Communication as a course in universities is over, as the commission has responded to meet present demands in the labour market.

This development follows the presentation of new curricula for communication studies in Nigerian universities by professors and communication practitioners in Nigeria.

Saudi Arabia denounced Thursday “Iranian violations of Iraqi sovereignty” after Iran fired missiles at Iraq bases there where US troops are deployed in retaliation for the killing of a top commander.

“The kingdom denounces and condemns the Iranian violations of Iraqi sovereignty,” said a statement carried by the official SPA news agency following Wednesday’s retaliatory strikes by Riyadh’s arch-foe Iran.

An FCT High Court, Maitama on Thursday sentenced to prison Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General, National Council for Arts and Crafts (NCAC) for contempt of court order.

Justice Jude Okeke in a ruling on the motion seeking for the order of the court to sentence Runsewe to prison for disobeying court order of Dec. 15, 2017, Okeke held that Runsewe failed to establish what he asserted.

“The court holds that the party cited (Runsewe) failed to establish what he asserted that the thatched roof of the applicant was removed and replaced in error by his agent, the contractor.

“This means the party cited was in flagrant violation of court order of Dec. 15, 2017, after form 48 now form 99 was served on him reminding him of the need to obey the court order.

“ The reasons the court holds offenders for contempt was the need to improve the rule of law rather than parties taking resort to self-help.

“The act is not only insidious but also an attempt to denigrate this court and besmirching its mobility, aura, and responsibility.

A Ukrainian plane has crashed in Iran.

All the 180 passengers and crew on the civilian airline are feared dead, according to the Iranian Red Crescent.

Aljazeera quotes the Iranian media as saying the Boeing 737-800 jet crashed near Parand, a suburb southwest of capital Tehran shortly after take-off.

The crash occurred a few hours after Iran attacked military bases in Iraq housing U.S. troops in retaliation for the killing of an Iranian general by the U.S.

Iran is mobilizing its citizens to donate a dollar each to raise $80million to be used as bounty for Donald Trump’s head.

An NBC News reporter, quoted an unidentified organizer for the funeral procession for Gen Qassem Soleimani, as calling on all Iranians to donate $1 each ‘in order to gather an $80million bounty on President Trump’s head’.

He spoke during a funeral procession for General Qassem Soliemani in Mashad.

‘We can attack the White House itself, we can respond to them on American soil. We have the power, and God willing we will respond in an appropriate time,’ the organizer said, according to the Iranian Labour News Agency.

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian MP Abolfazl Abutorabi threatened to launch an attack on American soil in response to the president’s warning that any strike on American interests in the region will bring massive retaliation.

The Nigerian Air Force on Wednesday announced the redeployment of 36 Air Vice Marshals and 40 Air Commodores including Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding and commandants of tri-service institutions.

The Air Force in a release by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said the redeployment followed the recent promotion of some senior officers to the next higher ranks as well as the retirement of some senior officers.

The NAF noted that the redeployment was aimed at further re-invigorating operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery.

The NAF spokesman said, “Branch chiefs affected by the redeployment include AVM Oladayo Amao, the former Chief of Training and Operations, who has now been appointed as the Chief of Policy and Plans while AVM James Gwani, has been appointed as the new CTOP.

The former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the last Senate, Shehu Sani has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The outspoken senator was arrested for allegedly collecting money in the name of the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

A source familiar with the arrest told our reporter that Mr Sani was outed following a leak that he collected money from a popular Kaduna businessman to give Mr Magu.

Benjamin Uwajumogu, the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, is dead.

His death was confirmed to journalists outside the Senate chamber on Wednesday by the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha.

He was said to have slumped in the toilet while taking his bath and rushed to a private hospital in Apo, Abuja where he died.

The Nigerian Army on Monday redeployed 20 Major-Generals and more than 10 Brigadier-Generals in a major shake-up which it said would “reinvigorate the system for greater efficiency.”

The redeployment was approved by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, and took immediate effect, according to a release by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa.

The Army spokesman said, “Due to the recent promotion of some senior officers, it became imperative to deploy them to appropriate appointments.

“Consequently, the Army has released the postings and appointments of the affected officers.

“The posting, which was approved by the Chief of Army Staff, was carried out to reinvigorate the system for greater efficiency.
