Tennis star, Serena Williams retired with a back injury in the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, handing the title to Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu.
Williams, 37, was left in tears after suffering back spasms as 19-year-old Andreescu comforted her courtside.

The American was a break down at 1-3 in the first set when she withdrew.

"I'm sorry I couldn't do it today, I tried," said the 23-time Grand Slam champion. "It's been a tough year, but we'll keep going."

Andreescu, who won her first WTA title at Indian Wells earlier this year, becomes the first Canadian to win the Rogers Cup women's singles title since 1969.

"Serena, you made me cry. I know how it is to pull out of tournaments, it's not easy," she said.

"This wasn't the way I expected to win. You are truly a champion. I've watched you win so many times, you are truly a champion on and off the court.

"I'm speechless right now. This has been a dream come true."

The 2019 Batch B Stream 2 Orientation Course for the National Youth Service Corps members begins nationwide on August 20, the management of the scheme has said.
Those deployed to Katsina State have also been scheduled to report on Tuesday, 20th August.

The programme commences on August 20, and lasts till Monday, 9th September, 2019.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Alliance in the February 2019 General Elections, Omoyele Sowore, on Friday applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside its order permitting the Department of State Services to detain him for 45 days.
Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow protests, through his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), contended, among others in the 19-ground application, that the order issued by the court breached his constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights.

The publisher of the online news medium, Sahara Reporters, added that the order of court amounted to “legalising the illegality” of his detention for about four days prior to the issuance of the court order on Thursday.

Filed along with his application on Friday was an affidavit of urgency seeking an urgent hearing of the suit on the grounds that it “is one of fundamental importance that affects salient fundamental rights of the applicant herein.”

Operatives of the DSS, on August 3, arrested Sowore over his call for revolution ahead of the #RevolutionNow protests which held in some parts of the country on Monday.

We seem to not have reached the of the rape accusation against pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly by Mrs Busola Dakolo. The who story seems to be going the opposite direction especially with the revelations by Nigeria's investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo. 

The story is now in Guardian UK. Saying Busola Dakolo was forced to sign the document at gunpoint. Kemi has further explained the incident with the parked van and the 'illegal' police escort that was with Busola at the time when she arrived and found the 'suspicious' van and how he fled the scene.

Ibrahim Dan-Halilu, the former Politics Editor at Daily Trust newspaper has been arrested by operatives of the Department for Security Service (DSS) in Kaduna for allegedly supporting the activities of #RevolutionNow protest in a Facebook post.

According to a report by Vanguard, Dan-Halilu a former staunch supporter of President Buhari before the 2015 elections was once a communication specialist with USAID, Information Assistant at the US Embassy and a Regional Communication Specialist for Family Health.

Operatives of DSS, stormed Dan-Halilu’s residence in Rigachikun, Kaduna State and whisked him away. Dan-Halilu posted on his Facebook timeline that he endorsed and supported the activities of #RevolutionNow.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prayer to freeze the operational account of the state domiciled in a new generation bank.

Security agents and personels have surrounded the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, in anticipation of the #RevolutionNow protest march scheduled to hold today.

The security agents have the OP MESA vans parked around the stadium. 

The Operation MESA or OP MESA, as it is commonly referred to, is a joint Internal Security Operational platform made up of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

Mr. Omoyele Sowore, the publisher and founder of the online news portals, Sahara Reporters, who was also the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 General Election, had called for the staging of the #RevolutionNow in what he described as a protest against bad governance in the country.

He was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services at his home on Saturday.

Michael Job, the US preacher, and actor who recently visited Kenya as 'Fake Jesus' has reportedly died just a few days after attending an interdenominational Christian event as a guest speaker.

According to a report by Kenyan Live News, 'medics at Heyn Hospital have confirmed that Michael Job succumbed to pneumonia while receiving treatment'.

Photos and videos showing him dressed as Jesus Christ have been widely shared on social media across Africa. He was last week deported from Kenya while authorities also arrested pastors that invited him.

The State Security Service (SSS) on Sunday confirmed that its operatives took Omoyele Sowore into custody.
Mr Sowore, a social critic and publisher of Sahara Reporters, was violently arrested in Lagos at midnight on Saturday.

He was taken into custody because he called for a revolution in Nigeria, SSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, told reporters in Abuja Sunday afternoon.

Mr Afunanya was unable to say whether or not the SSS has any credible intelligence that confirmed Mr Sowore has the capacity to execute a takeover of government in Nigeria.

The spokesperson, however, said the secret police was “aware” that Mr Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilize Nigeria.

All the five pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God kidnapped on the Sagamu-Benin highway on Friday have been rescued, the Ogun State Police Command said.
Earlier on Saturday, the woman in the group, Mrs. Ibelegbo Chidinma, a deaconess was rescued.

The rescuing of four other pastors followed, Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said. The four are: Chidozie Eluwa, Chiemela Iroha, Okoro Ohowukwe and Ndubuisi Owuabueze.

Oyeyemi said all the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt from their abductors by operatives of the Command.

The Inspector General of Police ordered a massive manhunt for the kidnappers on Friday. He deploying the Tactical and Operational assets of the Force, along with the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command for the search and rescue operation.

They were to comb J3 Area of Ogbere on the highway, where they were kidnapped.

The five officials of the RCCG, were on their way to Lagos from the Eastern part of the country when they were abducted by gunmen.

Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has written a memoir. The book by the man whose leaks of classified documents transformed the debate about government surveillance is coming out Sept. 17.

Metropolitan Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, announced Thursday that Snowden’s “Permanent Record” will be released simultaneously in more than 20 countries, including the U.S., Germany and Britain.

According to Metropolitan, Snowden will describe his role in the accumulation of metadata and the “crisis of conscience” that led him to steal a trove of files in 2013 and share them with reporters. Metropolitan spokeswoman Pat Eisemann declined to offer additional details.

Snowden, who faces U.S. charges that could land him in prison, is currently living in exile in Moscow. He has been widely condemned by intelligence officials, who allege Snowden has caused lasting damage to national security, and defended by civil libertarians and other privacy advocates who praise Snowden for revealing the extent of information the government was gathering. Notable revelations included a massive program collecting metadata on millions of domestic phone calls.

The Imo State Police on Thursday said they have arrested three suspects in connection with the ongoing cult clash at Imo State University, Owerri, which has claimed no fewer than two lives so far.

Cultists on Wednesday evening killed no fewer than two undergraduates, while other victims were taken to the hospital by the Police.

The killings, which occurred at the front gate axis of the university, caused students and business operators within the area to go into hiding.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, told our Correspondent that the operatives of the Command swung into action immediately after the killings and arrested three suspects.

Earlier in the month, TVC invited Kemi Olunloyo being the only journalist that was unraveling the COZArape case for a 'faceoff' with Chude Jideonwo the interviewer of Ynaija, that interviewed the rape victims.

A video is currently going viral on twitter and it has a man saying that Reno Omokri the former aide to Goodluck Jonathan should be very careful of where he travels to. He also said Reno should avoid Nigerian in foreign countries.

Evangelist Prophetess Juanita Bynum recently went on Facebook to explain to her fans and followers why she refused to speak at The Experience Church in Chesapeake, Virginia.
According to Juanita Bynum, she refused to perform because the popular pastor of The Experience Church, Pastor John Moore entered her hotel room uninvited and saw her underwear.

In a video posted on Facebook Live, Dr. Bynum said that Moore, who was hosting her at a conference in that city, entered her hotel room without her knowledge or consent and "saw her undergarments laid out on her bed." She said she felt sexually violated by his behavior.

Juanita Bynum said she was not in the room at the time he entered but was later informed of the incident by her assistant and was confirmed by the front desk.

In the video captioned: "WHY I DIDN’T PREACH IN CHESAPEAKE, VA AT THE Experience Church WITH PASTOR JOHN MOORE", Bynum claims that she was horrified at the invasion of privacy so she abruptly canceled the engagement.
