Bro, Africans really fought back. If the invaders (British, French, Arabs, Portugues) were to have come with similar arms e.g. bows & arrows, am quite sure they wouldn't have succeeded in stepping their foot on our shores. Imagine going into battle with knife, clubs, spears and arrows (effective mostly over a short distance) against someone with guns and cannons. If ur people were captured without putting up a fight, mine wasn't (I still have a slain white-man's 'helmet', boots and gun as a trophy in my family's 'museum').

Nchara: The bolded part made me laff. Means you do not really know AK people. Those guys fight over land with virtually all their neighbours. They have fought with Ngwas (Abia), Umuahians (Abia), Ogonis (Rivers) and Akpabuyos (Cross River). What is just and peaceful about fighting your neighbors all over the damn place?

^^^So true... Cross Riverians (Obubra LGA) are also quite ruthless when it comes to land matters. The first set of people they kill in communal clashes are usually either roasted or cooked and all the young able-bodied men made to eat the 'delicacy' which is believed to harden their hearts.
To add to ur list, they're currently at 'war' with boundary-village in Ebonyi state.

I must also clear the misconception as exhibited by most contributors. There is a meteorological difference between HAIL STONE/STORM and ICE PELETS. This difference is due to size. Hail stones are relatively bigger in diameter than ice pelets. The picture of the OP depicts hail stones and not ice pelets as some might think. One even made mention of sticking out his tongue! My God, do you want to have face reconstructive surgery? Hail storms are quite destructive unlike ice pelets.

@Nebeuwa... Thank you for that meteorologically insightful explanation. Am happy to have identified with a meteorologically interested mind like you. The phenomenon of Hail storm occurence within the tropics is quite possible but rare due to the effect of the high atmospheric temperature which tends to reduce the icing condition of water molecules during condensation. Just like Nebeuwa said, the dominant cloud of the said location as at the time of the hail storm must have been a super-cooled ice cloud. No need to panic!
