IslamMuslims Pray For The Nation: We’re Not Terrorists – Ahmad by donJ2(op): 7:04am On Jan 10, 2014
Prominent Muslims bared their minds as they gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square to offer prayers for the nation. The event which was organized by the Joint Muslim Forum was an assemblage of Muslim organisations in the region with prominent Muslim personalities in attendance. among who are Sheikh Ibrahim Garba Akinola, OON, the Chief Imam of Lagos state, Dr. Abdurrahman Ahmad of Ansar-Ud-Deen Islamic Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdullah Akinbode of Nasrullah-il-Fathi society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdurrahman Adamgba of Qareeb Islamic Society, Sheikh Imran Abdul Majeed Eleha, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Secretary-General, Nigeria Council for Islamic Affairs, NCIA among others.
Delivering a keynote address shortly after the prayers, Sheikh Abdurrahman Ahmad, leader of the Forum, beseeched Allah to intervene in the socio-political situation of the country, adding that Muslims are not terrorists as being misconstrued by some enemies of Islam.
Prof Ishaq Oloyede called on Muslims to unite especially those in leadership positions to fight the scourge of unemployment, poverty, disease, hunger, ignorance, mis-governance, corruption, tribalism, among other vices in the society.
We’re not terrorists — Abdrrahman Ahmad
“We feel a sense of duty to pray over the situation in our country. We all know there is no peace and security, we all know the anger and frustration of people in the country. There are questions to be answered and tongues are wagging. That is why we are here to call on Allah to intervene, to give us the means to attain lasting peace, to enable our leaders to do what is right and to be fair and just to the citizenry.”

“We are on the verge of another election and acrimony is already manifesting, open letters here and there. It is only Allah that can intervene on behalf of the downtrodden and marginalised.”
“This is also to show the world that we are Muslims, we are not terrorists, we are not arsonists. We have a duty to call on Allah, we are asking for peace, and praying to Allah for peace is our contribution towards attaining peace and tranquility.”
“There is no group in the country that is economically marginalised than the Muslims. We pray to Allah to intervene.”
“In spite of the fact that we’re the object of hate and calumny, we extend our hearts to others. We pray Allah to help touch the hearts of our leaders; to enable us to tow the path of peace. We pray Allah to help the politicians bury their inordinate ambition.”
On Lagos, he stated that some certain people have started to fan the embers of religious divide calling for a Christian governor in Lagos state come 2015. He described this as undemocratic, saying Lagosians had never voted along religious line in history.
We must come together to banish evils — Prof Ishaq Oloyede
“For us as Muslims, I mean true practicing Muslims, we need to join hands to strive and provide exemplary leadership in various spheres of life and endeavours and ultimately for the nation. We must not stay-by and watch. We owe ourselves and Allah the responsibility to create an enabling environment for the unfettered worship of Allah and practice of Islam in a plural society like Nigeria without annihilating non-Muslims.”
“We must live peacefully with our neighbours in an atmosphere of mutual respect for one another to jointly fight common problems such as unemployment, poverty, disease, hunger, ignorance, mis-governance, corruption, tribalism, moral decadence, drug abuse, insecurity, rape, religious intolerance, human right abuse, impunity, poor/non-existent infrastructure, victimisation, election rigging and so on. To do these, we must be involved.”
Oloyede called on Muslims in the State to join hands to address the peculiar issues affecting them which include hijab, new hijrah year holiday, coroner law, cremation of unclaimed corpses, un-balanced political appointment and absence of Sharia division in your judicial system.
Sponsored decoration
Others are state sponsored decoration of streets and highways for Christmas, unemployment of teachers to teach Arabic and Islamic Religious Knowledge in public schools in the face of abundant qualified teachers, proposed plan to scrap the department of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Lagos State University (LASU), huge unemployment of Muslim youth, huge and unaffordable fees in LASU, disgraceful treatment of Imams compared to Christian counterparts, among others.
“It is disheartening to know that at this age and time, the use of hijab by female students in public schools is still an issue in Lagos State. It is terribly disappointing that a state which has over 50% Muslim population with very prominent Muslim personalities is still struggling to enforce a right as basic as the use of hijab. I call on all Muslims in Lagos to unite and forge a common font to banish this evil from the Ummah. In doing this, violence must be eschewed; dialogue, wisdom, tact, and constructive engagement must be enthroned.”
He also called on government to respect the right of Muslims and be just in dealing with all groups of people, adding that the government must create an environment devoid of discrimination against the Muslims or any other religious group.
On leadership and challenges of combating evils in the society, Oloyede stressed: “We are all witnesses to evil acts and the decadence in our society as well as the marginalisation and oppression of Muslims as manifested in anti-Islam government policies especially in Lagos State. Clearly leadership without consultation is evil and Holy Prophet Mohammed (s.a.w) commanded us: “When you see an evil act you have to stop it with your hand.
If you can’t, then at least speak out against it with your tongue. If you can’t, then at least you have to hate it with all your heart. And this is the weakest of faith.” As Muslims I ask you “Which way have you chosen to stop the evil acts you see around you?” Let us all remember that Allah warns His believing servants of a Fitnah, trial and test, that encompasses the wicked and those around them. Therefore, such Fitnah will not be restricted to the sinners and evildoers. Rather, it will reach the others if the sins are not stopped and prevented,” he said.
Alhaji Babatunde Fashinro
“The potency of prayer cannot be over emphasised in the life of Muslims. Islam enjoins Muslims to call on Allah in prayer and put their trust in Him. Allah say in many verses of the Holy Qur’an: Call upon Me, I will answer you. It is incumbent on us to beseech Allah in all our affairs. In addition to taking action, Prayer is also very important in the life of a Muslim. As Muslims we owe our leaders the duty to pray for them to succeed in the task of governance. It is by so doing that we discharge our obligation to support and encourage them to do what is good and just.”
He commended the organisers of the programme, describing it as ‘demonstration of submission to the will of Allah.’

CrimeMan Impregnates Daughter Three Times, Says He Did Not Know It Is An Abomination by donJ2(op): 10:17am On Dec 29, 2013
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, one Augustine Obodeke, for repeatedly sleeping with his 17-year-old daughter (Favour), impregnating her three times.

Sunday Sun reports that the bubble finally burst, when the daughter became pregnant the third time and was unwilling to go for abortion.

According to a police report, the girl had cried out to neighbours, who then presented the case to the Ugbowo Police Station in Benin City.

Acting on the recount, the police arrested Obodeke and has since detained him.

Narrating her ordeal, Favour said her father started having sexual intercourse with her after the death of her mother.

“He first impregnated me and we went for abortion. My father impregnated me the second time and I went for another abortion. He had arranged a doctor at Uselu who has been doing the abortion.

“My father impregnated me the third time and told me that we should go for another abortion but I ran out of the house. He then threatened to deal with me if I told anybody what has been happening between us.

“I have to cry out early in the morning which prompted our neighbours to intervene. Since my mother was late, anytime my father requested for sex, I felt I had no choice than to allow him have sex with me”, Favour explained.

In his own account, Obodeke accepted that he had been sleeping with his daughter and had impregnated her thrice.

He, however, attributed it to the death of his wife and his inability to remarry.

“It is true that I have been having sex with my own daughter. When she became pregnant the first time, I took her to one of my doctors at Uselu Quarters who terminated the pregnancy.

“I impregnated her the second time and I took her to the same doctor who terminated the pregnancy again. It was when I impregnated her the third time that she refused to follow me to the doctor for the abortion.

“I decided to be having sex with my daughter because my wife is late and I have not remarried. I decided to enjoy my own daughter by having sex with her.

“I want my daughter to forgive me because I have sinned against her. Nobody told me that what I was doing to my daughter was an abomination. I thought I was enjoying the sex with my daughter”, he said.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, said the man was arrested on November 22, 2013.

He further explained that the doctor who terminated the first pregnancies was still at large, assuring that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

PoliticsNot Much To Thank Jonathan For In 2013 by donJ2(op): 8:07am On Dec 27, 2013
Only thing that works against man which he has unfortunately, been unable to conquer. It is the albatross of the low and the mighty.

Ask President Goodluck Jonathan what he thinks about how much time his administration has left and how satisfied he is with his level of achievement and see what I mean. I am almost definite that he would express the wish that he had more time. And here, I am not just speculating, if the President would be honest with us, he will confess that he aspired for Nigeria to be much better than it is at the beginning of his administration.  Jonathan did not just think this, he verbalised it to our hearing

During one of those Presidential media chats about 18 months ago, Jonathan uttered the following words: “I promised Nigerians that I would not disappoint them; I stand by my promise…”When I took over as President, I told my close friends that they would hear people abuse me in 2012 until 2013 when they will start to see results and the insults will reduce…”

In saying the above, it is difficult to tell whether the President underestimated Nigeria’s challenges or if he just relied on the low hanging fruits mentality of most Nigerians, thinking that modest achievements would be enough to regain the lost love between him and the people that he leads. At the moment however, it is clear is that neither what the President promised nor what he desired has happened. While it would be dishonest to say that there are no positives in the outgoing year, it is true that whatever modest gains this government may have made has not trickled down to the bulk of Nigerians and that more Nigerians are currently more disillusioned and angry at their leaders than they were 18 months ago.

For an objective assessment of the presidential promise and the current reality, we should look at some of the issues that this administration would claim to have attempted to deal with.

During the media chat from which the above quote emanated, Jonathan spoke about the desire of his administration to provide stable supply of power in major cities in the country by the end 2013. At some point, it was said that Nigeria would generate nothing less than 10, 000 megawatts of electricity by this month but that has not happened. While it is commendable that the administration has made tremendous progress by concluding the  privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, there are myriads of problems which still make the stable supply of power a mirage  Just a few days back, Minister for Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, spoke about problems ranging from cut in the supply of gas, vandalisation of pipelines as well as funding difficulties encountered by the new power generating companies as some of the obstacles to the reality of improved power supply in the immediate future. The summary of this long gist is that Nigerians are still suffering from irregular supply of electricity, companies are groaning under the burden of fuelling their generators as millions of ordinary Nigerians die in installments from the inhalation of carbon dioxide.

The President also gave assurances about agriculture. He spoke about the distribution of seedlings and improvement in the distribution of fertiliser.  More than his own promises however, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, gives us a lot of confidence that work, able to unlock the potential of the sector, is going on. Adesina talks about the creation of a data base of about 4.5 million farmers and a growth enhancement programme to provide seed and fertiliser support. There are also claims of appreciable boosts in the production of wheat and rice which have reduced the volume of imports. However, the reality is that Nigeria cannot feed its citizens. There is suffocating hunger all over the land. Nigeria still imports rice and wheat, we even import beans! In spite of the much advertised cassava bread revolution, the prices for bread have increased by about 20 per cent in the last 12 months.

I am also wondering whether this massively promoted reform of the agricultural sector is thinking of a new generation of farmers comprising educated young men and women who can creatively turn around the fortunes of agriculture in the country within a few years. Is it impossible, for instance, for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to select and train a hundred young people per state in modern agricultural practices every year thereby creating employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians annually, in addition to improving and deepening the potential for the improvement of agricultural practices.

This brings me to the issue of youth unemployment and the poverty that attends it.  Just last week, the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2012 National Baseline Youth Survey Report with claims that 54 per cent of Nigerian youths were unemployed in 2012. I imagine that government people will cite the 130,00 jobs that the Subsidy Re-investment Programme and the  3,600 people who would have benefited from the Youth Enterprise With Innovation grant by the time the programme ends next year as evidence of efforts made to improve the situation, but it is clear that these are insignificant drops in the ocean of unemployment in Nigeria. One can only then imagine the dangers that not positively engaging the minds of millions of young, educated, able-bodied but unemployed young men and women portend for a country. It would account for the volume of violent crimes that we currently see in the country. Even the NBS report quoted above highlighted criminal activities identified with a sizeable number of employed youths.

This is made worse by the very harsh conditions under which businesses are  conducted in Nigeria, the inefficient ways in which institutions are run, which promote the “man know man” syndrome and the failure of the banking system to encourage young Nigerians who have entrepreneurial ideas with facilities that will not suffocate their businesses.

Unfortunately, time is running out on the Jonathan administration. As we go into the New Year, governance would begin to take the back seat as politicians warm up for the 2015 elections. If Jonathan hopes to leave after leaving office however, his government needs to do more towards alleviating the sufferings of Nigerians. One very important part of addressing the needs of Nigerians is the need to collaborate with state governments towards improving health care delivery, standard of education and general standard of living across the country. Contrary to his promise, it is obvious 2013 has not brought much for Nigerians to appreciate about their government but who says the next 12 months cannot change all of that?

Wishing all Nigerians a very fruitful 2014.

CelebritiesBeverly Osu, Maheeda, Others, Under Fire For X-rated Xmas Cards by donJ2(op): 2:57pm On Dec 24, 2013
An army of angry Facebook and Twitter followers have matched on Gospel singer Maheeda, ex-Big Brother Africa house mate Beverly Osu and actresses Juliet Ibrahim and Adaora Ukoh for posting X-rated Christmas cards of themselves.
The war of comments have been raging for more than forty eight hours since Maheeda; a Gospel artist released her version of the 2013 Christmas card to her fans; a gift that was immediately word-bombed and hurled back at her. The other celebrities had quickly followed suit with their cards.

*Beverly’s card
The general consensus of the protest is that the latest trend of semi-nude X-mas cards must stop.
At the fore front of this battle is notable critique Charles Novia

*Maheeda’s version
He tweeted…

But a Maheeda has defended herself. She told a reporter  “I’m not posting those nude pictures on the internet to teach people to start going naked, I posted them because I felt I am sexy and I love sexuality. In Europe, where I live, at a certain age, parents will start to teach their children about sex education. But it is unfortunate that I came from this part of the world where sentiment is attached to everything.
I’m 31 years old and I can’t pretend to behave like a baby or something. I’m sexy and I like it. I’m still spiritually inclined and I have some gospel songs which are not out yet. One of them is Papangolo. Those nude pictures you see is Maheeda. That is me. I am just expressing myself. I’m sexy and I am only appreciating that fact because I love sexuality.

*Juliet Ibrahim
Maheeda’s response has been received with much indignation and the drums of war have heightened.
Sources say that family and friends are racing to get her to stop but have so far met brick wall as her resolve remains unshaken.
While the other have remained silent to the angry roar on their walls, their semi-nude pictures have not been taken down.
The protesters however believe that the war has been worn. Until the online siege broke out, it was rumoured that an avalanche of more lingerie clad female celebs especially from Nollywood were planning to get their own Christmas cards posted online … None has since surfaced.
Their supporters have cried that these celebrities be left alone but even they may not be able to hear themselves.

safarigirl: bros bone that thing, olamide sucks balls where Phyno is. Olamide that shouts as if pesin put pepper for im yansh na who better pass phyno? Olamide is the rap version of Terry G. He's Ja rule where Phyno is Biggie. Phyno raps like a BOSS, Olamide raps like a molue conductor. SID knows why he picked Phyno and Whiskey over Olamide, he been no want make people ear drums burst with all the shouting
I wonder hw people wud open NL, critisize an Artist, and also Turn 2 Dr SID's P.A (on collaboration isssues) deciding who he shud hv hired for a collabo...mtcheeew,
*SMH 2 all Phyno haters.
