Honestly this saddened my heart greatly. Can you imagine, ONE block of flat got burnt and within hours ordinary individuals had donated items to the extent they were being turned back due to insufficient capacity to take more donations. Yet over here in Africa we have thousands of people left bereaved, homeless, impoverished more on a daily basis due to terror attacks, accidents and various other disaster yet these same people die in IDP camps and in hospitals as there are lack of sufficient relief items to sustain them.
Yet we are quick to criticize them and their western culture as corrupt while we hide and play holy people etc. Really smh. Can't we see its obvious? Hey. Please just wanna know if my girlfriend's mum to ask about how much I earn? she even went to the extent of telling me to take her to my place of work without she having anything to do there. Ever since my girlfriend introduced me to her, she has tend to have dominating influence over our relationship. Sometimes, I try to free myself and be the man of my relationship by disobeying some of her wishes but it doesn't go well with my girlfriend most times. Other times, I just do her wishes in other not to look rude to her.

Education is just an avenue for knowledge acquisition, what u make of that knowledge is absolutely YOU .....

If I studied Mech Engineering for instance, and there is no Job afterward, I would go to a mechanic shop and learn how to repair cars of my choice n specs and believe u me , in 3-5years, I would surpass all my bosses and keep growing without looking back because I have advanced knowledge than them in my B.tech but only need their preliminary knowledge n experience to kick start my career as a mech engineer and be my own boss and own my own workshop/company ..........

The above is exactly how somebody with a B.sc/B.Ed/B.tech should think ..........


The brain of a graduate is expected to think better than someone who is not but unfortunately many all go to school without school having impact on their thinking processes ...... Go to school, write exams n pass via cram n pour ..... peeps don't even know the essence of their certificate .......


Your certificate is just a paper acknowledged by erudite in your field that you have been trained in a particular skill/field........ It is left to u to convince ur client/employer that truly , you are trained !!!


Academic knowledge is not meant for everybody so is entrepreneurship ....... Look inward into yourself and chose an endeavour that best suited your destiny !!!!

I have been following this thread and planning on UAE too...I am an Accountant with M.sc and ICAN in view but I know ACCA would be the main-main in UAE.... I will surely endeavour to write my ACCA over there while M.sc/ICAN could be use to achieve some GCC experience, ACCA will catapult things ........

Very uprofessional interviewer, I was cringing on Joshua's behalf. He shouldn't have asked him to choose between Nigeria and England

It is not a big deal actually, the questions are just for the fun and completely street and Joshua is a street and highly professional.
I wasn't surprised by his response, he answered completely right!!!

The only aspect about the interview I find challenging for Joshua is how UK always claimed british-Nigerian success but dump same's crime completely on Nigeria .....

But Joshua also gave the question a TKO by responding swiftly, he only wants to keep with the success!!!

There have been much discussion on which professional qualifications a person seeking a career path in accounting and finance should have.
While the ACCA is an international body with more recognition, there are certain reasons while one may chose to write ICAN over ACCA.
I hope to shed some light why it may be better to write ICAN instead ACCA.

1. Cost of examination.
The ACCA exams has always been more expensive than the ICAN exams, however with the recent increase in Dollars against naira, the fee is even higher than ever.
Currently the average price per course is £80 oughly N35000 and you may have to write up-to 3 courses per diet if you want to finish on time. ICAN, the maximum you'd ever pay is N70,000 and that is for the maximum number of courses ( 6 courses),other times you'd pay N40,000 to N55000 for all your courses. So if you have a slim budget, it may be in your advantage to write the ICAN exams.

2. Availability of Resources
For the ACCA exams, the resources at your disposal is someworth limited. Firstly, only few tuition houses are accredited to prepare students for the exams. Also, the study material has to be purchased online and paid for in pounds, another additional cost. For ICAN however, the resources needed are readily available online and offline. And there are a lot of books for purchase to make studies easier.

3. Statutory recognition.
In Nigeria presently, only ICAN and ANAN has been given the charter to audit reports. So despite having the ACCA qualification, you still cannot sign and approve financial statements unless you are a member of ICAN, which would mean you coming back to write the ICAN exams. I know there are a lot of exemptions. However, isn't it double cost if you still come back and pay for the same ICAN exams again? The basic advantage of ACCA is the recognition in the private sector. But in term of statutory audit, or even public sector, you still need ICAN to climb higher

4. Easier to pass
It is generally easier to sit for and pass ICAN. It is common to see individuals who seat for the ICAN exams and pass every thing in one sitting. Truth be told, ACCA is setting the standard which ICAN follow. So if your goal is to become a chartered accountant as soon as possible with lesser stress you are better of writing ICAN instead of ACCA.

5. Patriotism
We always complain our county is bad and not progressing, yet we constantly leave our home made things and go for foreign ones. These two bodies are serving the same purpose. Therefore, there's no need leaving the one of our mother land for preference for a foreign body. It pays to be patriotic and promote the affairs of our own country.

Conclusion
With the harmonization of accounting standard and Nigeria adopting IFRS, there is no difference between the two bodies. Basically they have Very similar course outline cutting through virtually the same area. The gap between the two bodies have greatly been closed. Also, ICAN is an international qualification and recognized in a lot of other countries.
