Jobs/VacanciesRe: Free CV Review For Students & Jobseekers by DorcasKaruana: 4:36pm On Dec 03, 2013
CV Writing: This is how you should incorporate your accomplishments on your CV
The first step is identifying your job accomplishments: Working experience is important but more important is what you achieved in those years of experience. For instance, saying that you have been doing sales for ten years may be impressive but adding that you broke the sales record thrice may just land you the new position.

Focus on those things that you have achieved first such as breaking records or bringing in new business. However, anything you were a part of can also play a role in this. Take the time to write a list of these accomplishments.
After you identify you accomplishment the next task will be to incorporate them into your CV.

You can incorporate your major accomplishment as part of the career objective. This is where one outlines their goals. You may say for instance, my goal is to use my accomplishments in IT to help in the growth of a company.

The accomplishments can also be included in the body of the CV.
For example, you should list job-specific accomplishments under the appropriate employer listing on your CV. You can also list your key accomplishments at the bottom of your CV in a bulleted list.

CareerRe: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by DorcasKaruana: 11:07am On Mar 11, 2013
Salary will never be enough and there is nothing like good salary. I say this because a good salary is one that suits your needs and you are able at least to save something,. Now our needs vary from person to person depending on the kind of lifestyle you live.

High earners have got a high standards of living and their spending habits are more while low earners have lower standards of living. Is not a surprise to see people who earn 6 figure salaries in debts even before the month is over. Some have mortgages to pay, entertainment, bills of about half their salaries e.t.c they spend all their salaries on this and have little to save.

So good salary is where you spend and at least save something regardless of the amount you get.

CareerRe: How Much Should Recruitment Agencies Charge For Job Search? by DorcasKaruana: 2:53pm On Feb 26, 2013
I think recruitment agencies should only charge a person after they have gotten you a job. However, some will charge you for just having your CV in the database yet they take months without even calling you for interviews.

I recommend charging once you are placed in a company and the charges should be an equivalent of one months salary payable in 3 or 4 monthly installments.

In addition, recruitment companies can liaise with the client to pay half the amount(50%) and the candidate pays the other half. However, other clients will opt to pay for a 100% of the candidates salary.

CareerRe: Which Would You Prefer To Work With, A Male Or A Female Boss? by DorcasKaruana: 2:48pm On Feb 26, 2013
I prefer a male boss to a female boss. The major factors for preferring a male boss are less office politics, more relaxed working conditions and an improved focus on goals and objectives.

Its true that female bosses have a lot of politics and the working conditions are ore-determined by her mood for the day. Pressure every now and then just to make you feel her presence or just to prove a point. Am a woman but given a choice, I would not like to work under a woman boss.

Men are easy to work with and will not carry around something wrong you did months ago. to the present. They are sensitive and understanding.

However, an increasing number of women are holding senior positions in companies, so the impact this will have on office dynamics is going to be a fascinating phenomenon to observe in future.

He only needs to have a good exit strategy which is well calculated knowing the risks involved and how to counter them. This is a good move if well thought of, sice if it picks up, he will never go wrong.

Agriculture is sustainable source of income for many and if the timing is right you get constant money. A simple but overlooked way to be successful. So go ahead.

CareerRe: Talent Is Better Than Education by DorcasKaruana: 1:42pm On Feb 21, 2013
Talent is important but education is there to complement it. With talent you just need to work smart, have enough drive and focus to be successful and make your dreams come true. Think of the many college drop outs who against the odds are millionaires today.

A good example is Bill Gates who dropped out of Havard and now the Co-Founder of Microsoft, or Micheal Dell who dropped out of University Of Texas, Austin and is now the Founder of Dell Computers or Ralph Lauren who dropped out of Baruch College and now the Founder of Ralph Lauren Clothing.

Education does not mean success in life, it is how you use your education that makes the difference. Even the uneducated people who are successful in business are able to employ the best brains to work for them.

CareerRe: Am I On The Right Track??? by DorcasKaruana: 4:00pm On Jan 24, 2013
Career Choice decision is one difficult thing which is an individual’s duty. Many form four leavers have ended up making uninformed decision about the course they will pursues in college. Since we all have different skills, interests, experiences and expectations, you should consider these factors when choosing careers.
Your Interests- Could be social,, outdoor and active, creative or scientific
Values & Motivations- Security, Money, helping others, work life balance
Your Personality- determined cautious, outgoing, and calm.
Your Skills- Team work, computing, Problem solving, communicating.
Your Qualifications.
Your Contacts

Choosing a Career involves 4 main stages:
Self Awareness
Opportunity Awareness
Decision Making
Taking Action

For your case you lack Self Awareness which involves looking at your Skills, Values, Interests And Personality and analysing where your strengths and weaknesses lie. This is important both in choosing the right career and also for success in applications and interviews where you will find many questions which test whether you have been through this process.

CareerRe: How To Get A Raise by DorcasKaruana: 4:47pm On Jan 21, 2013
How to get a pay rise.

Flexibility is a term that should be practiced by both the employee or the employer when need arises. If an employees is assigned other duties he/ she shopuld be flexible to accommodate them. This also applies to the employer, whether a company is making money or not, If an employee deserves a pay rise, s/he should be awarded. For instance, where duties are added to a person on a permanent basis or a new position is created for the person.

CareerRe: Job, Graduate Program Or Marriage? by DorcasKaruana: 2:36pm On Dec 17, 2012
This is very trick but you need to have your priorities right. If you are old enough to marry; then do it since you even become more responsible. You can still pursue your scholarship while in marriage and even get a stable job while married. Time does not wait for any man so if you are late to marry them you will delay in so many other things.

You still can pursue your goals while married and achieve them. Money will never be enough and there is no time you will say that you are satisfied with a particular job.

Linguistics is broader than Mass Communication. You learn the writing, speaking, and reading. There are various disciplines such as: social linguistics, phonetics, phonology, Semantics, Pragmatics, Syntax e.tc. For Career wise, you can diversify to fields in communication such as writing, editing, reporting e.tc.

CareerRe: 8 Ways Your Résumé Can Be Unprofessional by DorcasKaruana: 1:01pm On Dec 14, 2012
To add on the list
9. Listing your mother tongue in the Languages spoken section
Spare this to yourself. Unless the advert ask you to list the languages you can speak, do not include it on your CV.

10. Format- Having tables with columns on the CV
These are simply not attractive and make the hiring manager struggle to read your work or connect sentences. A continuous prose is better to read through.

CareerRe: Buzzwords Of 2012; And Why You Should Avoid Them In Your CV by DorcasKaruana: 12:53pm On Dec 14, 2012
You forgot hardworking and team player.

Instead of using the buzz words to describe yourself, job seekers should use examples that bring out these qualities in them. For instance; give an example of where you worked on a project as a team and the role you played. If you were the team pleader, the employers knows your leadership skills, if you got to complete the project in time, then it shows you are efficient, organized. If you encountered a problem and was able to solve it; it shows you are a problem solvers e.t.c

No employers trust the buzz words you describe your self with. Give real examples.

CareerRe: The 10 Skills That Will Get You Hired In 2013 by DorcasKaruana: 12:46pm On Dec 14, 2012
I Think sales and Marketing skills should be number 1. It incorporates presentation, and good communication. The job search process is in itself marketing. Right from applying the job, your CV and cover letter representing your brand, to the interview invitation; how you respond on phone, to the actual interview where you meet the employer and sell yourself to get the job. Here, branding, communication and presentation is very key.

Even if you are a good decision maker or problem solver and you can say it, communicate or even share it; it is all useless. Therefore Sales MArketing become No 1.

CareerRe: Should A Man Wear Necklace To The Office? by DorcasKaruana: 3:44pm On Dec 11, 2012
I personally see no issue with this; but it depends with the office set up; corporate or no corporate. This is a liberal world where decency differs from society to society, company to company, professions as well as from person to person. Dressing is a choice one should make.
