Egba state ko egba state ni. . . .

They can create more states with one proviso. . . . The new states will have to share the federal
largesse accruing to the states where they are carved from. So states that do not ''benefit'' from being
carved apart should not suffer.

na why me i dey ask na. . .you said projects of ''similar calibre''
but not roads or general hospitals.

So which ones would u rather see~?
BusinessRe: Fashola Shops For N73.3b For Airport by doyin13(m): 2:00am On Apr 30, 2010
lol. . .so what kind of project on the mainland would satisfy
your similar calibre criterion.

Another airport perhaps huh huh huh

What developments do you speak of? I sincerely would like to hear of the marvelous things happening in the mainland.

I do understand that much of what is going on on the islands happen to be funded by private investors but I still would like see some of that on the other end.
lol. . the biggest projects this government has undertaken have been on the mainland.

The waterworks project. . . the rail projects, the badagry express road, BRT. the maternity and child hospitals
have or will predominantly be on the mainland.

Big road projects that have not been in the news. . . also mostly on the mainland. Many of the new BRT lanes
being proposed will be on the mainland.

So it is unfair. . .The mainland's sheer size simply swallows all these projects unlike the Islands where they will
be easily visible.
BusinessRe: Fashola Shops For N73.3b For Airport by doyin13(m): 1:23am On Apr 30, 2010
@Kobojunkie. . . .Your position would only be tenable, if there is hardly any development
going on in the mainland areas.

But that is not the case with all the projects I outlined above. And much of the development
on the Islands have a significant private input because it is the most visible and attractive part
of the metropolis.

@Dede1 and Me Aboki

Petitions from all corners of the nation arrive at the doorstep of the national assembly all the time
and they are given attention. So why not this one.

And where there are possibilities of potential physical harm, then it goes beyond the scope of morality.
Especially where consent is often given on behalf of the minor.

It might be the law in the Vatican, but I dare you to bring a case where such marriages have occurred in
the recent past in the Vatican. Besides, it is not the law in Nigeria.

Country Malaria Out is a Federal ministry of Health project which was signed, I believe middle of last year.
Mr. Woman. . . .I agree with you on the issue of the airport being a bit of an overkill.

But it would be unfair to say much of the State's attention is being poured on the
''islands''.

The Badagry expressway project will gulp minimum two hundred billion when it is done.
The light rail project probably another hundred billion and it is wholly on the mainland.
There are many drainage projects on the mainland.
The waterworks project .
The state health ministry has been especially proactive, with roving health missions, upgraded
hospitals, new maternity wards etc.

I think people should start paying attention to what is going on at the local government level
where a lot of waste continues to occur mostly due to their responsibilities not being fully
understood by the populace.

People continue to criticise State governments for failures that should be attributed to local
governments. Perhaps if we put our searchlights on individual local councils we might get
somewhere.

I thought Fashola is doing much already to address the gridlock. Isn't that what the BRT and the light rail are about? I'm not suggestion that Fashola ignore pro poor issues, I just think honestly that seeking to take people out of poverty by creating a job friendly environment is better than trying to maintain people in their poverty situation.

For instance, what can Fashola do about say the slums of Ajegunle. Almost nothing!! Maybe he can build some toilets and and a few primary health centres, nothing more. Slums are an undevelopable area. They only solution eventually would be to bulldoze them. That for now is not possible as the cost implications are gigantic!
Besides Power which affects the whole country, I can't think of a greater emergency
than transport in Lagos.

I will not begrudge them if they decide to indeed declare a state of emergency in the sector

They might be addressing it, but obviously not quickly enuff. Still don't understand why two
years after the launch of the first dedicated BRT line, it hasn't been duplicated in other areas
of lagos. Light rail was meant to be reaching conclusion next year, but we will be lucky if it is
commissioned 2012.

Compared to the rapid pace they started with, the government seems to be going through a
period of inertia which is quite unfortunate, cause the times are indeed perilous. Lagos cannot
continue to operate in such conditions.

There is something I always talk about: Pro Poor VS Anti- Poverty.
I realised that many of us Nigerians Pro-poor instead of being Anti- poverty. Being Pro- poor means that you rather feed, clothe and house poor people while being Anti poverty means you would rather take poor people out of poverty.

Fashola is an Anti poverty Governor. His projects might look elitist, but that is the only direction to go if you must create jobs.

The Lekki free trade zone would attract lots of investors and as a consequence create loads of jobs for those poor people in the mainland and as they earn better salaries they would be lifted out of poverty.

To be able to attract investors, you must create a business friendly environment. The Lekki Airport would be the biggest relief for the business class. Lets remember that the business class are the engine of the economy as they are the direct tool through which jobs are created. Without the business class we would have no jobs.

So, my people, rethink your Pro-poor stance and embrace an Anti-poverty mentality!
Well. . .all the man hours lost on lagos roads due to inadequate infrastructure surely would satisfy both the Business and Working class.

Addressing the gridlock is both pro poor and anti poverty abi?

I have issues with the story to be honest. . .

I assumed the funding for the bridge was already in place
considering the construction has reached an advanced stage.

Fashola himself in all the recent press conferences I have heard him
has harped on about the priorities being the light rail network, expansion
of the BRT and completion of the water jetties for rail transport.
