northern folk thought they were imposing a dictator on just the SE/SS states. They forgot that it includes them. The entire nigeria ;Db |
Geronimo, when you consider the damage technicals has done to NA, especially in the overrunning of bases as was seen late last year. You would agree that preventing that is worth the cost of an ATGM. Technicals are best engaged from a standoff range. It is when they get within range that bad things start happening. The French in op serval in Mali and earlier in Ivory Coast took em out with atgms, be it hand held, vehicle mounted or heliborne. |
Gangster democracy. He he he , it cannot work. I can promise you, that all those jubilating, would be wailing in a few months. This monster, is worse than Abacha. He has totally captured the state institutions, and worse yet, we already know he has an evil ethno-religious agenda. If Nigerians in their entirety don't stand up to this rape of democracy , this monster would only push forward. Under trump, America is distracted, fighting for the survival of their democracy. The U.K. , has been made uncertain by brexit, and needs allies from its former commonwealth sphere of influence. So they would look out for their interests , and wouldn't rock the boat for the sake of democracy. Those who think this is only Atiku's business, will be rudely awoken in a few months. Investors that are key to job creation, are voting with their feet. Our loss, is Ghana's gain. The south west will be shocked as Tinubu and osibanjo are religated to the outskirts once again. The Yoruba obsession with checkmating the Ibos, is the real downfall of Nigeria. We should be strategic allies, and not canceling each other out in the scheme of things. If united as even afenifere and ohaneze know is necessary, we can then draw in a fractured south south, and maybe the middle belt. While the north is not monolithic, PMBs ethno-religious agenda, is in ascendancy, and the nationalists like Buba Galadima and Atiku are under extreme duress. So with out a firm alliance on the side of democracy from the south and north central, this Islamist and Fulani supremacist agenda will overwhelm Nigeria, leaving us the Syria option only. Watch as PMB would extremely isolate Osibanjo from power in order to force his resignation. |
That is why I say, these NA brass, are the worst of all Nigerians. And we all know that there are no shortage of wicked souls in that country. These bastards would rather share and pocket any available money , instead of save the lives of their men talk less of country men they are sworn to protect. PMB whom I supported coming in due to GEJs cluelessness in military issues. He has now proven he is worse than GEJ. He borrowed billions from the Chinese to pay salaries ,but he couldn't borrow one or two billion from the Chinese , to overhaul our decrepit military. Which would in turn solve most of our security challenges, thereby increasing investor confidence in nigeria. Foreign direct investment means jobs for Nigerians. With 300 bmp-2s, bhts technicals would be outmaneuvered and outgunned, with some armor protection for the troops. State governors can afford to finance NA if fairly used equipment are diligently sought. A job for our top heavy military, colonels and up. Discover ways to fundraise and sponsor the adequate equipping of the Nigerian armed forces before they further ruin their reputation beyond repair. |
Nigerian youth abeg, since una done manage get laptop already, forget this useless fraud Yahoo business. The westerners are hip to it, and are are no longer that gullible. Use the internet and teach yourself coding instead. Or find someone that can teach you coding. It only requires some concentration and hard work which you guys are already doing in this Godforsaken yahoo thing. With coding, you will possess a skill set most people in the world don't have. Programming and designing Apps will make the globe flat for you. You could possibly earn what folks earn in California, sitting in your flat in naija. Get the coding skill set first, then let your imagination run wild as to what problems or services you can provide in form of Apps. Thanks to YouTube and other music streaming services , popular Nigerian Afro beats artists earn more or the same as their American counterparts. God bless. |
Gentle men, I have led this argument for PMCs as military advisers for about a decade now. If you are not at the war front in the north east as we speak, you can save the insults. I see iswap' assault on northern Nigeria, the same vein as ISIS assault on the Iraqi and Syrian armies. Both armies are better than NA, were nearly overrun but for the infusion of mercenaries and military advisors with NATO then eventually Russian air forces in tow. US green berets and Iranian quds force and eventually Russian spetznaz. So since nigeria is not as important to the powers that be as Iraq, us and U.K. May do training, but nothing more. They would Not even approach what the French routinely does for her west African allies. This were a reputable PMC comes into play as embedded advisors. To properly deploy and utilize the tools that we have in the most effective way. This could be STTEP or Eric prince blackwater NA would benefit greatly from training and advice in the field |
Those excessively criticizing fr. Mbaka act like they don't understand the present day hardship of today's Nigeria. Remember, adoration ministry feeds and pays school fees of thousands of impoverished Nigerians all over the country. He therefore should be excused, when he shows little decourum when he trying to fund raise from the politicians that steal all the people's money to start with. Having said that, Mr.Obi is a class act , and fr. Mbaka owes him an apology. |
Good for una. Keep complaining. Simple issue like vote out an obviously incompetent leader, una de carry stupid tribalism wan spoil things. Yoruba no wan cooperate because Vice President Osibanjo is there, you guys know PMB will continue to sideline the very capable VP if he gets re elected. So this is how our small mindedness on national issues frustrates our collective progress. As a result, small boys of yesteryear get to pass us, and insult us. As for northerners, una no be zombie. You guys are smart. So with Atiku also of northern stock, why do you guys insist on saddling Nigerians with another 4 years of an aloof and incompetent president? Based on his performance,PMB should be voted out in a landslide. Tomorrow, we go hear say Liberia and Gambians are kicking out Nigerians from their country. |
Again, I am saying what the Pakistani Air Force said they will do all along. (1) acquire/ manufacture about 150 FC-1 fighters. (2) use them to replace primarily the mirage III/Vs and the F-7s. (3) They currently field about 100 FC-1 jets, they are doing a lot of indigenous repairs and upgrades on their F7 fleet, not to return them to the fleet, but for possible "fly away" sales. I am saying NAF can take advantage of these, while we await our FC-1s. |
One could also say that this is all of Nigeria's making. Since we wouldn't grow up, and take care of our strategic responsibilities , others competitors and those with interests in west Africa are just planning around a perennially weak and irresponsible nigeria. They cannot do the same to Kenya, Uganda,Rwanda, Angola nor Ethiopia. In Nigeria, top military brass, repeatedly embezzle funds meant for equipment purchase and troop welfare. Our politicians display little interest in the capability and welfare of our military even at the height of insecurity in the nation. They are only interested in monies that end up in their corrupt coffers. National security be damned. So stakeholders like the US, with massive investments and interests in our oil sector, have no choice but to hedge their bets. If our armed forces doesn't prosper under an incorruptible ex general, when are they going to get due attention ? |
Guys, me I blame CAS for this accident. What was he thinking trying to show off NAF's capabilities, when NAF is at war on several complicated fronts, with very few platforms available. If aerobatics interests him, he should make available platforms and units for aerobatics. Not canibalize the limited capacity of a fighting force needlessly put on a shoestring budget. If the CAS was optimally resourceful, NAF should at least possess a wing of Alpha jets and a wing of F7s. With no additional funding. The Pakistanis have retired and upgraded all their F7s. This gives you about a hundred planes and parts which they are ready to sell at "fly away" prices. The alpha jets were bought up by private enthusiasts e.g John Travolta. When they were retired from Franco German fleets. We could continue to ramp up numbers and parts from these sources. |
Oga odunayaw, integrity is everything. If you lack it, even your doctrine will be believed by no one. So since corruption knows no bounds in military as well as ciivillian Nigeria, one can't really be sure if our doctors are real doctors or if our special forces are really the best of the best. We on this blog can't even tell why buratai and co are against re equipping the military. Is it just greed ? Or not being patriotic enough. So, if there is not a radical turnaround in this military, it WILL Collapse. And when that happens, how do you intend to protect your interests in nigeria? Lol, you may still have to pay someone. |
Oga all expensive, with all due respect, the Air Force while not tainted under Sadique, was a ses pool of corruption under Baden and GEJ's administration. Even our defense minister has a published case in the press where Nigeria was contracted to deliver a MASH unit to the UN forces in Mali. The money was disbursed in Nigeria but the mash unit never materialized in Mali. The contract was later given to Rwanda, who executed it to the T. So, they gain a MASH unit, and all sorts of life saving skills and equipment. They also get reimbursed by the UN, plus salary. And Nigeria gets a reputation of non delivery of key UN projects and irresponsibility. Plus the money is missing and the same man is still the overall boss of our military |
No be today way Nigerian army start this dog eat dog corruption. I was hoping that PMB as he promised during the campaign, will bring this sort of official impunity to an end. But really the emperor has no clothes. Bihari delegates, and turns a blind eye to the results. General Buratai is the biggest disappointment. Oga Spartacus, how many houses you one buy ? In Liberia, they budgeted billions usd, and short changed the troops. 2 mi-24 attack helicopters could have put Taylor out of business, but no Na sacrificed thousands of troops instead. The same in Sierra Leone .billions was spent, but soldiers were extremely under equipped. This is an abomination. It's akin to a mother that steals food from her babies. This is unacceptable everywhere but in the Nigerian armed forces. Nigerians wake up to the injustice being perpetrated in your name. For the day of reckoning comets. And ignorance would not suffice as an excuse |
Finally, hesco barriers which is the mordern way of rapidly engineering an impregnable base defense. I had suggested NA adopt it asap since 2012 on beegeagles blog. To no avail. The US used it all thru Iraq and Afghanistan. US introduced it to Amisom how have done a good job with it, but have also suffered some harrowing base overruns with it as NA has with out it. Anywho, I am seeing buratai deploy hesco barrier defense technology for the first time. |
@kikuyu1, all you have to do is follow the KAFs frantic search for fit for purpose combat air support and strike platforms. The air tractor, the md500 with upgrades, the Israeli, then Jordanian cobra helicopters etc Us has also openly claimed credit for these decapitation strikes and their spec ops involvement in support of Amisom. |
Nigeria needs to ask US nicely, to step up the quality of their assistance to operation Lafita Dole as they did about a year ago for Amisom. There was a time when alshabab fighters became very tactically proficient, and repeatedly decimated amisom bases such as those in El adde, KDF, UPDF, The Ethiopians and the Burundian all fell victim to repeated base crushing and base looting assaults. The US drone operators noticed a pattern where alshabab gathered and trained specialized commando and suicide units then, a base was overrun. They used to give interdiction coordinates to KAF, but dumb bombs from fast jets wasn't getting the job done. So the US stepped up their involvement to interdicting those commando units with armed drones and special forces. This is the identical scenario in the north east. The killer drones and spec ops need to get involved as they are in Somalia and also in Mali. |
@blackbaron, yeah I understand your economic argument. But enough of the tight fistedness. We need to start spending some real money effectively on our fighting forces in Nigeria, or we are toast. Russia just finished hosting this years international military games. This year, they showcased their T-72B3. One small country snapped up 80 tanks for 50 million usd. Nigerian representatives were there enjoying the military games, while losing a real war at home. A buy like this, 80 T-72B3 almost as good as the T-90 for 50 million usd which is pocket change to our governors, will turn this war around but this is Nigeria. |
When will my fellows bloggers and analysts agree with me that NA is currently being outmaneuvered inside Nigerian territory? PMB has decided to fight this war on a shoestring budget. general buratai has no choice but to salute and carry on. But why with all the Chinese loan facilities available to PMB is he condemning NA and it's men to such a tragedy? And what is more scary, is that none of the presidential aspirants are criticizing PMB along these lines. Instead they are suspicious and resistant to the proposed 1 billion Usd, which is a drop in the bucket. So this means that the entire political class are clueless about our military affairs. BTW, where is the so called informed criticism from recently retired generals? How about any general serving or retired. The entire country is clueless and groping in the dark, that is why my recommendation of a reputable PMC is apt in thi situation. Even if they only succeed in convincing our political class that real money has to be spent to even dream about salvaging this war. Bacause they are not suicidal, and would not touch the contract if they learn that our political and military brass would rather spend the money elsewhere. |
Nice, it seems we are utilizing some American advisers. To address our logistics in the AOR. VILA vertically integrated logistics approach, indicates helicopter mobility would be a key factor. As air mobile assaults are also termed vertical envelopment. Hope this means that many tens of choppers are coming to the NA |
You Nigerians are so pig headed and stubborn. And what vexes folks, is that you wear this as a badge of honor, rather that a sign of stupidity and ignorance. For years I had read the tea leaves, And deduced that NA is willfully out of its depths when it comes to counterinsurgency. It is just like the rest of our economy. Nnpc lacks the capacity to distribute fuel products through out the country. Yet they usurp this responsibility, most likely to keep the likes of Ifeanyi Uba from making money. They do a horrible job as expected, punish Nigerians, punish the economy, and Capital Oil simply distributes its cargo to other oil hungry well managed west African economies. And they just tell lies and give useless excuses. NA bungled Liberia, then they bungled Sierra Leone. They bungled the war in the niger delta, and as I have predicted as far back as 2012, they have bungled the north east. But you see we can have irresponsible leaders that fail to see the significance of a strong competent military , but we don't have to prove to the world that we can win on the cheap, with our military in this sorry state. IRaq had US and Iran to bail them out. Syria had Russia and Iran. The saudis and their allies are getting entire mecenary formations, from chad,Sudan, Somalia and Senegal. But not nigeria. We want to prove to the world, that we can win with our wickedly lead, incompetent ,criminally and woefully equipped military. Nigerians, don't say you weren't warned. The troops have no choice, they are fighting an existential threat in bhts. They are also fighting a heartless military brass, and a generation of money thieving politicians. Something is about to blow. |
Nigerians vote for Professor Kingsley Moghalu for president. He is simply put the best candidate, and an answer to nigerias problems. Don't let tribalism, or any other form of narrow mindedness deprive us of this chance. God has presented the solution we seek, but we must all choose with extreme sobriety. This is our very last chance to get it right. Don't say you were not warned. |
It's a pity that countries like Egypt,Thailand (military dictatorship), the Philippines and Iraq (human rights issues) are receiving all manner of US excess defense articles, we a democracy fighting terrorists of the worst kind. An erstwhile US ally can't get no love. Our soldiers are being decimated by bhts, our politicians don't care. The military brass don't care either. Nigerians by enlarge, don't know or care about their defense. The press does not care. I look into my crystal ball, and see fertile ground for a junior officer led "orkar" type revolt. Let him that has understanding read the signs of the times. |
@ugo4u, I remember when bhts just fought with motorcycles, I warned folks on the beegeagles blog then, that NA would be in pretty bad shape when bhts adopt technicals like the rest of the armies and rebel groups in the Sahel area. The only way to survive the AAA assault is to bury your face in the dirt and this allows the enemy to easily encircle you. The west, us,France and U.K. Handle the technical easily with TOWs and other ATGMs. From helicopters gunships or mounted and hand held sets. |
komekn:You are right you know, the British just retired 600 schimitars, which is the same APC with a 20mm rapid firing gun and tow ATGMs So it is a steal for about 3500 pounds. Way better armor than hilux trucks. |
Things are beginning to spin out off control. Just imagine if the bhts launches an offensive on maidugri while the special forces are "rioting " General buratai needs to quarter back this situation himself. I would strongly suggest that he should 1st DO NO HARM. No court martial. Doing that in response to perceived injustice is potentially explosive. These are a few steps buratai can take to give NA some breathing space. (1) about 100 M113 APCs, 100 ratel IFVs, and helicopters are on offer from Jordan. Ship it home and let Nigerian companies and army engineers refurbish them. Ask our friends in turkey and Egypt they could lease or gift us M60A3 tanks. (2) recently retired enlisted men should be allowed to re enlist. Same for some recently furloughed generals. (3) quietly hire a PMC named MPRI. To help reorganize our army and advise us on further steps to take.. God bless Nigeria. |
Oga all expensive, make you go well. Again we appreciate your service and sacrifice. Like say you be pilot, I would say, may your take offs equal your landings. Question, what general purpose machine gun do you chaps carry along with your tavors. Other, than the RPGs, any Atgms to neutralize enemy technicals ? We understand if you can't answer |
Confusion has returned again to the battle space. The bhts have the initiative, and they will soon hit maidugri hard. Acting president Osibanjo should fire buratai before Bihari gets back. NA and it's leadership need to stop playing around with the lives of their troops, and the lives of the Nigerian people. I think this lack of seriousness or politicking, is why CAS seems to want to do his own thing with the air force, and expose the army for the frauds they,or are becoming. When is the last time you heard that bhts overran a Chadian base or even a Cameroonian base. Rarely, I bet it has something to do with their obsession with big long range anti aircraft artillery. Cameroon has brand new Chinese APCs from which they could direct accurate, computer targeted mortar fire on the enemy, while forcing the enemy to duck and cover from their AAAs. chad can employ BMW-21 marls and their AAA to thwart any bhts moves against them. If you have observed how the Chadians role, they are constantly on the move, with their stores, RPGs tied to their trucks in bundles. So the don't repeatedly leave them behind when they have to maneuver like NA does. Having ranger units trained in Pakistan or Belarus, doesn't mean that the command is committed to counterinsurgency warfare. Who has trained the generals, so the AFSF can be utilized appropriately. They are supposed to be harassing bhts from behind their lines, than being formed into glorified assault infantry. Again, counterinsurgency is about continuous cycles of Find, Fix, Flank, Finish. Let the CJTF arm themselves properly and protect their own villages and convoys. They are better at it anyways. |
Y'all know that that 1 billion usd supplemental spending on military hardware is trapped in the senate while APC and PDP perform drama for us in the senate ? These fools are so unpatriotic, they wouldn't even seize fire, agree to take care of national security issues, then resume politicking. So in the mean time, not a dime extra would be spent on critically necessary weapons, and BHTS would continue to get the better of our troops. I saw a posting on the general thread on nairaland, about buratai going apeshit about soldiers running from the enemy and not standing their ground until death. ( I was waiting for it to be reposted on this thread, so I could comment amongst military enthusiasts.) An angry officer responded to COAS, accusing them of not buying any weapons since colonel dasuki's last purchase of used equipment. What is so wicked about Nigeria, is that they used less than 100 million usd out off the available 2.1 billion usd and still were able to turn things around. And just shared and embezzled the rest. Used cheap ex soviet equipment will win us this war, and save countless men from dying. That is why BHTS don't overrun the Chadians, cause they have invested in the right stuff. NA had to leave our troops so strapped, that they always beg for the Cameroonian to come 60 Km into Nigeria with their armored vehicles to assist NA in clearing operations. What a shame! |
For those knocking the upgrade of the jaguar and mig-21s, I would rather have the jaguar jet dropping payloads on bhts basis in chad, niger and nigeria. Than the Alpha jet dropping only 1000lbs per sortie. Our leaders are so selfish, that even if angels came down from heaven and told them to re equip, they would find an excuse not to. So we are not going to get any 4fh generation fighters any time soon. Iran is in the market for top Russian and Chinese fighters, but they are still upgrading there old su-22 bombers, to use in Syria for the time being. Uncontested air power is our key to winning this war. But our air strikes, gat to be real air strikes, not pin pricks. |
If NAF reinstates the sepecat jaguar and the mig-21 and then upgrades them, I go duff my hat to CAS. I like that general Buratai is a physical fitness guy,but other than servicing and re painting 70's and 80's era equipment, I don't see what NA is doing in making themselves a more lethal force. With the tight fistedness of our law makers and executive, add to it their overall ignorance of military matters, our generals need to become experts at skewering the surplus to requirement storage lots of the big powers. For good deals. |
@joshing josh u are correct. Why wouldn't a general know what his troops need ? Well, I think PMB hopes to win this war on a shoe string budget. The problem is a penny wise pound foolish one. Look at the economic wreck insecurity is turning northern Nigeria and the middle belt into. Had our security forces had the capacity, these could have been contained. You are spending money on the anchor borrowers program, only for the "mongol hordes " to cross our porous defenseless borders, sack our markets and rustle our cattle. Unfortunately. Under the previous administration, money was made available, but was stolen by the leadership. Military and civilian alike. |
