agaugust:That's exactly what he doesn't understand. The US air force is so large and spitting out so many very good pilots that the airlines PREFER to take from the air force than train their own. Here the SAAF is begging for pilots. |
patches689:lol give me a break. You dare to compare the size of the US air force to yours? Your people simple prefer to drink than fight. Your pilots run to the civies once the get trained because there is no iota of patriotism. |
The point has apparently been reached where the SA Air Force (SAAF) is aware it cannot fulfil its defence obligations and the airborne arm of the SANDF has turned to pilots flying for the national carrier, SAA, for assistance. The Afrikaans Sunday paper Rapport said it has a copy of a memorandum sent to South African Airways (SAA) pilots last week. It asks them to help out as reserve pilots at a “few SAAF squadrons”. The paper points out the “emergency call” came in the same week the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) informed Parliament it could not depend on the air force in the event of a major shipping disaster, such as the Oceanos sinking in 1991. Dr Cleeve Robertson, NSRI chief executive, told Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Transport 22 Squadron can “at best” put a pair of Oryx helicopters in the air to assist in sea rescue. He put it that the AFB Ysterplaat-based unit could “hardly” be called a squadron any longer. The squadron apparently does not have any pilots currently qualified to land on vessels at sea. This has been put down to the non-availability of a platform for practice. The SA Navy supply vessel, SAS Drakensberg, is the preferred platform for this training but she has been out of commission for about 18 months undergoing a major refit and accompanying maintenance. She is now back in the water but has yet to be commissioned as fully seaworthy following the refit. According to Rapport the memorandum issued by SAA Flight Operations is looking for pilots to increase “capacity” at certain squadrons. It goes on to state timescales will be finalised in the near future and, as soon as further information is available, this will be circulated...... .......Going back 10 years, 22 Squadron would be able to put six Oryx into the air while the squadron’s current situation is such it has one, possibly two, of the rotary-winged workhorses available at any given time. tsk tsk tsk #facepalm. Very unpatriotic force. SANDF. www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=40595&catid=74&Itemid=30 |
Truth be told. The first 2 quaters(6 months) of the year has been all about politics. Many economists predicted the negative effects the presidential elections will have on our economy so this is not a surprise. Economics took a back burner. On the current crises, low oil prices, and a bloated civil service from the oil boom period means that many governments on the Federal and state level are strapped for cash. Restructuring is necessary. Increased productivity by Government staff, possible layoffs, increased government revenue (tax) without hurting private productivity and diversification of revenue is needed to drive the economy in this trying times. Re-introduction of road tolls as a source of revenue may have to be considered if a systemic solution to corruption in that area can be found. In the long term, the solution to diversification of the Nation Forex income and systemic defeat of corruption lies in the principal pillar of socio-political restructuring of the country. In simple term, we need a true Federation to solve our problems. EDIT. Low oil prices are here to stay for a long while,so let us do what has to be done to secure our nation from a violent future. This is because our population is rising as our income is falling,as a result the share of the national cake per citizen is dwindling. Electricity is vitally important. |
Those are not lethal weapons. The US should not take us on a ride. They won't arm us with lethal weapons because of the Leahy law. MRAPs are defensive not offensive weapons. We received 2 unarmed cutters(Frigate class) from the US EDA(Excess defence articles) during the past administration because the were designed for defence not attack. This is just media spin. They won't arm us with weapons. |
Matthew 5:43-48 King James Version (KJV) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. |
In a federal republic, there is a division of powers between the federal government and the government of the individual subdivisions. While each federal republic manages this division of powers differently, common matters relating to security and defense, and monetary policy are usually handled at the federal level, while matters such as infrastructure maintenance and education policy are usually handled at the regional or local level. However, views differ on what issues should be a federal competence, and subdivisions usually have sovereignty in some matters where the federal government does not have jurisdiction. A federal republic is thus best defined in contrast to a unitary republic , whereby the central government has complete sovereignty over all aspects of political life. As in the United States, [3] most federal republics codify the division of powers between orders of government in a written constitutional document. Wikipedia. |
Nigeria is a Federal Republic. It is important that our citizens understand this because most Nations are not. |
I believe they eat waterleaf. But a research done suggests that pawpaw makes them sweeter when compared to waterleaf. However, taste is in the tongue of the eater. ![]() |

It seems as though many have short memories. Many people say the previous Administration did not manage the oil boom properly, that is a flat out lie. We seem to forget quickly how Madam O.Iweala constantly fought the senate and house to keep the benchmark price of fuel in the budget low during the good days, while the senate and house kept demanding higher benchmarks. They fought her to a standstill over ECA and low budget crude benchmarks. www.xclusivenigeria.com/index.php/component/k2/item/2220-by-abdullahi-m-seidu-falling-oil-prices-the-raining-day-is-here www.vanguardngr.com/2012/10/budget-sanusi-okonjo-iweala-insists-on-75-per-barrel-oil-price-benchmark/ Many seem to also forget that after warring against the House of Assembly over the ECA the Governors came in warring her over consumption of money saved in the ECA. Every step of the way interested parties wanted to eat the money she was trying to save for the country. www.pointblanknews.com/pbn/articles-opinions/the-rumoured-5-billion-eca-withdrawal-and-selective-amnesia-by-sylvester-okoro/ For the confused ECA means excess crude account. This the account for the boom days in crude oil prices.Notice: EXCESS. If we have no money today blame the Governors and the HOR. |

All those the OP mentioned (except Mohammed) were waiting in anticipation of the coming of the promise( Christ the Messiah) i.e the New Convenant, and had a Personal (Abraham)or National (Israel) convenant with God. Mohammed is Post Christ and does not subscribe to the Convenant of Christ. |

So, the US that does not buy a drop of Nigerian oil want to determine our oil minister? Kabiruuu!!, where my 3D glasses make I Sidon watch. |
Do you know the US does not have bullet trains? Most nations that have bullet trains are geographically small except China. Do you know bullet trains run on electricity? You hardly have enough to power your home and you want electric trains. What happens when there is a power cut half way down your 1000km journey? How much do you think it will cost to maintain the expensive tech that is a bullet train? Will the larger proportion of the Nigerian population be able to pay 20k for a train ride? Diesel train and indeed Coal trains is the right train for our GDP per capita. India with its vast rail network and population don't have bullet trains though their economy is twice ours. Edit. Most of the U.S. does not have bullet trains. |
Whenever i see the rooivalk I shake my head. That bird should be the main arrack helio flown in Africa. I'd suggest the SAn's go to the Chinese for an Engine clone/replacement of what they currently use. The sight of it just tells me that we (Africans) can't get our act together. No way will the Chinese have that bird and it won't be mass produced and sold. |

delishpot:Catholics do not pray to Images. Catholics clearly know the difference between Images and Idols. |
Hmm, some people need to know the difference between an idol and an image. Even the scripture used 'graven' to help the uninitiated. We all have images in our homes and our children play and hug them all the time. They are called toys and Teddy's. I guess they are now idols because God said. Do not MAKE them or bow before them. |
There was also the TV drama of Oliver twist (Charles dickens) and Jane Eyre( Charlotte Brontë.). Those were the days literature was taken seriously by TV. |
shumuel:Lol yeah. Thunder Sub had to go from research centre N1 to N9 ( N2-N8 had been destroyed by the invaders) to get the aero conversion engines to make it fly, fighting it's way there. Most of these cartoons were Americanised versions of Japanese cartoons. You have to give it to the Japanese. |
shumuel:I remember when Thunder Sub took to space. To me at that age it was hair raising.
