Family › Re: 23, Getting Married Soon by Dreloaded(f): 7:32pm On Feb 19, 2008
In Nigeria, it might be relatively rarer for a young girl to want to marry so early, of their own free will
Tpia, I tend to agree with alot of your posts but Im sorry this is quite untrue. Desperation reeks out of most Nigerian girls now, esp the ones that live there. They could date a guy for like 2 weeks and immediately claim husband, you even have examples on on Nigeria, guys gas up their heads with "yea now this is my wifey lol lol" and they dey claim they have husband, husband for where?

Girls trying to rush into marriage is a typical girl thing cos majority of them just THINK of the whole Wedding part, they forget everything else

smike, what has osisi said that we havent said and stop trying to cover up with "oh I just dont thik it's  big deal cos it's a court thing", if that was all you worried abouyt you wouldnt keep haping on the fact that it's an "early marriage". Obviously you believe it's too soon, best you do something about that .

smike4keen, quit milking the "you hurt me" cow. Yea AJ was KIND of harsh in the previous comments bht if you read in between the lines, we ALL know she's saying the utmost truth

19 is too YOUNG right now, she doesnt have a degree of her own. Why would YOU even allow her to do such a thing if you love her? If you truly loved her you'd wnat her to better herself first or am I crazy?  huh

Seriously, I dont think any man who cant sincerely say "Im getting married and Im fine with it" should ever go down the aisle, it's so obvious how paranoid you are about it, the fact that it's too early, obviously it's like you're being rushed. what is the cause? You need to talk to your girl about this, if shes like any other female she'll see this as a way for yiou to run away but you have to assure her that you are questionijkng it cos you are thinking OF HER.

I just dont get why he agreed to get married when ot's obvious he's scared. Why not let the girl get a degree too before jumping into such a thing. Im so confuzzled

We're not exactly the only people known for public display of wealth

edit: that aside I understand the complaints cos seriously a dirty naira note is utterly disgusting, enough to be used as a rag but you cant exactly go around telling people how they should spend THEIR money, be it at a wedding or in a striop club or some house party, whatever, it's the Nigerian govt that should look into making better notes so such issues wont come up. Do they intend on stalking market women who abuse the notes or maybe beggars? People should see the abuse dollars go thru here, some homeless people use it to wipe their ass and still spend the damn thing yet you'd still be able to spend the dirtiest dollar bill over the not so dirty naira.

See the thing I like about "pretty boys" is that they dress well. Nothing better than a guy that knows how to dress, as for the ones that stay by the mirror 24/7, those ones are NOT naturally pretty, lmao bloody metrosexuals, they just gass themselves with female products ie FOUNDATION grin

I personally think only Pale white people should call themselves "fair" It's a term for those who cant tan in the sun.

In re: question, I really dont care, if you're attractive/have nce features, the shade doesnt matter. I also dont understand this talk of "light skinned guys being too proud", I never gotten that vibe from any of them.

AJ, you have a problem with pretty guys? Send them my way tongue

still, it's due to this that I thank God everyday that my parents had us go to Nigeria for secondary school. They stayed here while we(my siblings and I) were staying at our house in Ibadan being looked after by my grandmother and my mother's siblings who ranged from early 19 to early 30s. tons of lenancy, it was great. During every other year, we'd visit them in NY, I remember when I was about to start SS3, that summer we were in the states and for some insane reason my parents decided we should stay here and finish up blah blah, I can sincerely tell you I went bersek, I was so pissed off cos that would mean being locked up by them and just being in the irritating American high school environment.
Anyway I wrote some mean letter then when I calmed down, I forgot the letter some where and my mom found and read it and the next week we were sent back. Lmao. Fortunately fr me I was able to finish up secondary school, but since they wanted me to come back and do college here, my siblings couldnt finish and had to do the rest in the States. I can say I didnt envy them. My sister was miserable as my dad had her on total lockdown, my brother had some freedom but not so much. Lol I was busy far away in University of Buffalo

Anyway I understand why parents THINK this is right but it really I sincerely believe that if you raise your children RIGHT, no matter what kind of environment they are in, they will remember the kind of children they were raised to be. You are right about these kids being so socially awkward, I've seen such examples and you can usually tell the reason, it's pretty depressing. Im actually getting to know most of my cousins better now cos in the past my parents kept us away from them, the ones that lived outside of Nigeria in fear of them being a "bad influence" on us. undecided

How old are you? Are you in college/university or what? I think you should put yourself out there, if you are in school, join clubs, you'll definitelyn meet more people that way and I'm so with you on the "friend one day, next day you avoid", lol I've done that many times, but that's mainly cos I tend to find people to be just annoying, at times but I knew I couldnt keep that up so I have a nice tight small group of friends, one gone now cry, anyway not advocating befriending every and anyone but someone you have stuff in common with and you see influencing your life in a GOOD way.

Btw how come you're the one that people dont see, dont your parent lock up your sisters too?

I was seeing a Nigerian movie recently and my friend noticed that people were being unnecessarilly agressive in the movie. He asked me whether it's the way we shout in Nigeria? Before i could answer, my other Nigerian visitor aswered yes and went ahead to tell him that it's actually part of our culture. My friend was dazed. I could only imagine her thoughts.
If we are loud n ko? What about akata people? Abeg make I hear word, so because some slowpoke asked a foolish question you too are ashamed. It bothers me when people don't know how to reply to foreigners when they PURPOSELY ask condecending questions.
