Nadia is just light skinned and a terrible actress. Jackie is actually pretty.

kogi, I referred to males cos kogi spoke from the point of view of a male since he is one. Simple.

and no one is trying to fight.

joshjosh, quit being so dramatic.

No one is bashing african men, from what I see kogi is an African male himself. We are just AGREEING that some people dont know their piorities. Everything he said is SPOT ON.

Family will respect your wife or husband if you yourself respect your wife or husband. It's that simple. If not, that's when they think they can worm their way in people's lives and destroy it.

Complain all you want, kogi knows what he's talking about and I still hope people learn from his post/comments.

.but there is just one thing i find very difficult to get and that is the fact that my husband will believe his sister over me,and not call his people to order when they were toturing me.i do not understand it.
I dont blame you at all for being angry which is why you two really should have that talk cos it's VERY sad when a guy chooses to believe the words of others over his wife without getting any kind of confirmation first. Infact it's dangerous.
Either way I hope you two are willing to put more effort in making this last but yes dont move in backl just yet until you two definitely discuss EVERYTHING out in the open.

My best response to you is that you should look before you leap. Make hay while the sun shines. Without the basic necessities of life he may not be able to support you, but then the question you should be asking is does he have the potential, does he have a plan?

If the answer is yes then give him a chance, and let him know what your concerns are. If he truly loves you, he would want to fulfil your requests.
What part of "he doesnt have any feasible plans" did you not understand?

I don't mean to be a pessimist, but inasmuch as I want this marriage to work out, I really think the damage on both side has gone too far. I lay most of the blame on shapey's mom, her reaction was knee-jerk.
Um I agree that the mother is going overboard by trying to keep shapey from her husband at the moment but in a way do you really blame her? She said his people came to the house with a CANE for Shapey. Does that seem like a normal family to you? Who wouldnt expect the mother to protect her child from barbarians?

Anyway I personally think she should stay in Nigeria away from his family until he is ready to leave THEN they can both go back to England together but if she wants to get there before him for her safety, I guess that's ok too.

You're still pretty young.

I've skipped months before. It was nice  wink

Mine used to be irregular but now that I'm older it's usually within the same time each month and last for 3 days, at most, 4.

Btw Happy New Year, Wes. Long time  smiley

Your husband is spineless but you obviously love him, so dont let it be too long before you speak to him. Dont let these lame people get in the way of your marriage and ruin it for you. Deal with the whole matter when you two get back to the U.K.

To be honest, I think it's odd for you to travel back before he does but I guess it's for your own safety.

Just make sure you call and speak to him and when he gets back to England you two should have a LONG and THROUGH discussion.

Lawyer, you're quite a bitter jerk.

Anyway, what a boring thread.

Obviously it doesnt bother you that even just after a year your guy never bothered to improve himself, yet you continued to be there for over 7 years. Took you that long to wake up?

Have fun then.

Not even gonna bother giving advice esp since the OP hasnt returned to this thread to reply any of the comments. Probably something she lifted from Hints or Hearts.

In addition to reading novels, magazines e.t.c and watching TV, stop speaking pidgin english and try to reduce speaking of your local language, that is if you speak yours.
goodluck
Dont agree with the reduction of speaking your native tongue. that's why you have so called Nigerians running around that cant even say Hi in their own tribal language. I find that to be embarrassing

But I do agree with reducing pidgin English. Personally it makes my ears bleed. I can only take it in small doses.

and basically, subtitles limit the audience. while D-reloaded might say that people who don't want to read subtitles may be "morons," i guess that is an easy thing for those of us in the worldly lettered classes to say, but i think you might be surprised to learn how many people in Nigeria are either flat-out illiterate, or not literate enough to read subtitles and follow the action onscreen at the same time.

(even here in America, most reasonably educated people who are not foreign film buffs don't like to read subtitles. as one guy once told me: "the cinema isn't a library and so i don't think i should go to the movies to read!"wink
Um. Again this is about having OPTION to pick and choose. Who's saying those people have to buy subtitled films? Did anyone say that such things were mandatory? Im sure those who didnt want to deal with subtitles bothered watching Living In Bondage and co, those of us who dont mind however HAD THE OPTION to buy such films so the whole "well some people cant read blah blah" is just a lame excuse IMO.

Btw my slowpoke comments goes especially to Americans who cry about subtitled movies. "omg watching a movie and reading is such hard work" Give me a damn break

Btw comb, wasnt there a time when Bollywood movies was a HUGE thing in Nigeria, last i checked they were subtitled and the same "illiterate" Nigerians loved them either way.

because the assumption is that the target audience of Nollywood movies can not or does not read.
And that doesnt offend you?

Anyway you people have yet to tell why they cant have BOTH movies accessible to people. Same way I dont have to go to Korea to watch "OldBoy", I shouldnt have to go to the East to watch Indigenous Igbo movies that were once acessible to me in the first place.

. I believe it was an experiment that got out of hand and it will be impossible to reverse it. Perhaps if they were persistent with the the production of Igbo language films just like Living in Bondage, Rattle Snake, Missing Mask and co, we wouldn't have that problem now (I think it is a problem).
I'm glad there are some people that see it as a problem

On the other hand, if one is to watch a crappy movie and read subtitles, that's double catastrophe right in your face, because let's face it, most of these fellas are not here to give us quality,  I can only sit down and read subtitles if the movie is really good, otherwise I will either look for the English dub or ditch the damn thing. I am sure a whole lot of people think this way.
I actually have Living In Bondage & Rattle Snake. Never seen Missing Mask though.  sad

Anyway I agree with you about subtitles and quality filming but see if you were to ask anyone to compare the plots/stories and acting of Nollywood to that of the indigeous igbo movies.  Very high percentage will pick the latter. Many people like to delude themselves and say Nollywood movies are Igbo films spoken in English. Not true.

One thing I can say is these marketers are smarter than we envisaged (not that the smartness does us much good). Seeing that they wouldn't bother spending months shooting movie and some other months polishing things in post production, they figured they could get away with making 'pop corn' movies in English language, after all it is one less punishment, far better than getting their Igbo language films vehemently snubbed due to lack of substance and the additional hassle of reading subtitles.
Only morons find reading subtitles a "hassle" or "chore" in my opinion and I suppose they are being "smart" but in a greedy way. A smart producer/director will put their mind in making quality not just mass quantity of the same ol' bullshit.
