Politics › Re: Why I ‘ll Build An Airport In Abia — Orji by drnoel: 8:57am On Nov 11, 2013
Nnewi1stSon: Besides Rivers state what other state in the old eastern region needs an airport more direly than Anambra? 70% of those that use Asaba Airport are Anambrarians, a huge percentage of Enugu and Owerri Airport users are Anambrarians as well, do u know how much the state Gov't would rake in if we had one in Anambra? Peter Obi obviously doesnt know how to generate IGR, that is why a state like Anambra with more than 22 Major Markets scaterred across Onitsha,Nnewi,Ekwulobia And Awka still generates a meagre revenue of 450 million. and to think he was once @ the helms of a huge bank like Fidelity bank,i wonder what kind of clueless banker wouldnt know how to make money. Pls tell another story, Adaobi is as clueless as Cluelessness!
U know ur statistics are wrong so I wont bother arguing with u. Once u check ur statics u will see that major users of Imo aiport are mostly imos and abians. I have looked at the passengers list and seen destination addresses. About delta airport, its shared between delta, anambra and edo but funny enof some people from imo. Anambra does not require an airport, if u say they need one I wont argue but they don't require one.

kettykin: Does Abia really need an airport or is Abia suffering from misplaced priority
Ma sister abeg help me ask this mad governor. I no sabi nigerians again. Abia has not built their roads. I mean Aba looks like a rat hole or should I say a pig sty, the roads are a threat to people's lives and the environment a threat to people's health, yet this mad governor wants to waste money to build airport. What is wrong in making the state environmentally safe first b4 any other major projects. He is just looking for a white elephant project he would dump on the next administration who would then abandon it. Anoda silly way to spend billions and yet do nothing. This man wants to steal the remaining money his former boss 4got to steal. Besides is his tenure not almost over? What is he still talking about. Building airport for Abia? He must have drank something that is bothering his head.

Family › Re: Can I Swap My Daughter's Kidney With My House Girl's by drnoel: 10:57am On Nov 10, 2013
macjive01: I went for a naming ceremony of a friend's kid at a church in cele, on sunday. After the service, as I was heading out I ran into an ex-neighbour with her kids -girl- boy. Anyway this ex-neighbour insisted I come hone with her as she has sonething that is bothering her that she would love me to advised her on.

Cutting long story short, the woman's daughter has a damaged kidney .

The goodnews is , a person can live comfortably well with just one kidney. Just that he/she would have to avoid heavy lifestyle , heavy drinking and smoking. And probably heavy duty strenuous jobs.

Also she has found a doctor in India that would do tge operation.

At this point I was beginning to wonder what she needs me for. Then it dropped.

She began to heap accolades on her daughter , she is brilliant. Intelligent. Very active in sports . Plays musical instruments. And how she cant live with the thought of her jewel not being complete and able to continue with her hobbies.

She then got to the main point. In a lowered voice she said her maid has been identified to have same body and blood type and some medical properties.

Now she is asking if she was to swap the damaged kidney with the maids if her daughter could live on two different kidneys without issues ?

Or would it be better to take the house girl's two kidneys and swap with her daughter's. So the daughter has same type of kidneys. And the house girl will also get two of same kind.

Please what could you advise her?
Giving a kidney is the right of the owner. Its is a criminal offence to swing or psych anyone to do so against the person´s will.

kendraloops: I'm so so so very angry this evening. I've been having this issue with hubby for a while now, used to think he was kidding but this evening just confirmed it for me.

I'm Yoruba n he's Esan from Edo state. He speaks yoruba very very fluently even better than me, he teaches me proverbs n all sometimes sef. But anytime I speak yoruba to our baby, he gets irritated kind of n says' my son is an Esan man, stop speaking yoruba to him'.

We had a major row over it this evening again. Don't I count in the boy's life? What's the biggie in him learning how to speak yoruba?
There´s a way aroundd it but u guys have to find ur rhythm or should I say ur common ground. Hubby can forbid you from doing such but u can still speak reasonably with him to reconsider so u won´t hsave to disobey him and do what u want. I say this cos I know what is obtainable in our Nigerian setting. I know couples who speak different languages to their children. The husband speaks one the wife spesaks another. Look, the more the language a child grows up with and undertsands the better for that child.

Politics › Re: FG To Use Islamic Bond To Build Airports, Refineries by drnoel: 3:20pm On Nov 07, 2013
Ayekotoo: Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Debt Management Office (DMO) and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), are exploring ways to use Sukuk to build airports, railways and refneries.
Speaking at the National Conference on Islamic Banking and Finance in Nigeria, Wednesday, in Abuja, CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, said that in view of the potentials of Sukuk to develop economies in building infrastructure, the CBN, in conjunction with other sister institutions like the Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC), ICRC, DMO, had assembled a technical team to explore the prospects of alternative modes of finance and set out the procedures for using the modes in the development of infrastructure.

He stated that the team had identified, in its report, potential projects that could be financed by sovereign and sub-sovereign Sukuk.
“These projects include upgrade, maintenance, repairs and new construction of roads and highways; upgrade, renovation and new construction of airports, rehabilitation of the rail line and the building of a new rail line and railway stations. Part funding for the construction of the planned three refineries and mass housing and light rail for some states in the federation” he said.
This, he said, was in addition to the role that Sukuk issuance served in deepening domestic capital markets.

Sanusi noted that only recently, the Osun State government successfully issued a sub-sovereign Sukuk worth N10 billion for building public schools and the issuance was oversubscribed.
“The issuance which was oversubscribed and had a full up-take by the originator, shows the buoyancy of our capital market and its need to take up new alternative instruments” he said.
To further underscore the importance of Islamic Sukuk, the governor hinted that the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, David Cameron, announced the plan to make London not just a capital for Islamic finance to the Western world, but one that would stand along side Dubai and Kuala Lumpur as one of the great capitals of Islamic finance, anywhere in the world.

“Last week, I was at the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum in London hosted by the UK Government and at that function, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced his government’s plan to make London not just a. capital for Islamic finance to the Western world, but one that would stand along side Dubai and Kuala Lumpur as one of the great capitals of Islamic finance, anywhere in the world.
The UK plans to do this through the issuance of an Islamic bond sukuk, worth 200 million GBP by the UK Government which it intends to do as early as next year. It also plans to create an islamic index on the London Stock Exchange for Shariah compliant securities to attract more islamic investors.

“The UK is embarking on this plan, despite the fact that it is a non-Islamic country which illustrates what we have been saying, that Islamic finance, though based on sharia, is a financial product with clear goals and it is accessible to all” he said.

Politics › N255m Car Scandal: Reps’ Panel Wants Oduah Sacked (end game events) by drnoel(op): 10:00am On Nov 07, 2013
Aviation Minister Stella Oduah maysoon be waving a painful farewell to her controversial job —should the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation have it way.
It is to recommend today that President Goodluck Jonathan should sack Ms Oduah, for exceeding the official limit in approving the purchase of two bulletproof vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) at N255million.
The committee may have recommended also sanctions for the former acting Director General (DG) of NCAA, Nkemakolam Joyce, and the agency’s Director of Finance, Salawu N. Ozigi – in line with the Civil Service Rules.
The panel is to seek the immediate termination of a loan agreement of N643, 088,250.00 to finance the purchase of 54 vehicles (including the armoured vehicles) between the NCAA and the First Bank of Nigeria.
Coscharis Motors Limited is to be asked to refund the N255million meant for the bulletproof vehicles. Besides, the panel will recommend that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should investigate the company for alleged abuse of waivers.
These key five recommendations are some of the major highlights in the report of the committee, which will be tabled today before the House of Representatives.
The report will then be debated and put to vote before the House takes a stand on the matter, which has generated so much heat in the polity.
According to sources, after a prolonged debate on Oduah’s fate, the panel agreed that the minister allegedly violated the 2013 Appropriation Act and the Public Procurement Act because due process was not followed in approving the purchase of the armoured vehicles.
The committee recommended to the House to ask “President Goodluck Jonathan to review the continued engagement of Stella Oduah as the Minister of Aviation, having contravened the 2013 Appropriation Act by overshooting her threshold of N100million and for violating the Public Procurement Act.”
The report said: “The committee recommends sanctions for the acting DG of NCAA, Nkemakolam Joyce and the agency’s Director of Finance, Salawu N. Ozigi, in accordance with civil service rules for circumventing the Public Procurement Act.”
On Coscharis Motors Limited, the committee directed that the auto firm should “refund the N255million paid to it for the bulletproof vehicles through a loan agreement with immediate effect”.
“The armoured cars are also to be returned to Coscharis Motors Limited.
“The N643, 088,250.00 loan agreement with the First Bank of Nigeria by the NCAA to finance the purchase of 54 vehicles should also be terminated forthwith because it is not in the interest of the country.
“The EFCC is also advised to further investigate Coscharis Motors Limited for abuse of the waiver process and the discrepancies in the chassis numbers of some of the BMW vehicles.”
Speaking with our correspondent last night, a member of the panel said: “As a matter of fact, there was nowhere in papers to show that the vehicles were bought in the name of the minister.
“But in terms of approval, the minister was found guilty, having gone beyond her threshold of N100million. Due process was also not followed in the purchase of the vehicles by the NCAA.”
On the next step, another source said: “It is left to the House to accept or reject our recommendations.
“It was not easy arriving at these recommendations because of vested interests and pressure, but most members of the committee put the nation ahead of personal matters. The committee members had to reconsider the wording of recommendations on the minister.”
First Bank Plc was given a clean bill of health in respect of the transactions.
The July 30, 2013 agreement between NCAA and First Bank of Nigeria reads in part: “The borrower (NCAA) has applied to the bank for a Term Loan Facility (herein referred to as “the facility”) in the sum of N643, 088,250.00 to finance the purchase of 54 vehicles for Management Staff of NCAA on Grade level 15 and above.
“The bank has agreed in the usual banking terms to extend to the borrower the said facility on terms and conditions herein contained in this Loan Agreement and in the Letter of Offer which terms are hereby incorporated into this agreement.
“The parties hereto have agreed to secure the facility, including interest and other charges.
“The facility shall be for a period of 36 months without moratorium. Subject to the terms and conditions hereinafter contained, the Borrower shall repay the facility hereunder in 36 monthly installments as contained in the Letter of Offer.
“The borrower shall until the repayment of facility to the Bank pay interest on the balance outstanding and on all monies whatsoever at any time owing to the bank at the rate of 18 % per annum(all inclusive) or such other rates in line with changing market conditions as may be advised.
“The borrower hereby covenants with the bank that so long as any part of the facility or interest or other moneys hereby covenanted to be paid remains outstanding, the borrower shall:
•furnish annually to the Bank not more than 120 days after the end of the period in respect of which they have been made up Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Accounts showing the true position of the Borrower’s affairs such Balance Sheet and Accounts being certified by the Auditors …”
“The borrower will also from time to time supply to the bank such other information as the bank shall reasonably require in respect of the assets and liabilities of the business operation and administration of the Borrower and shall permit and enable the bank’s representative to inspect the borrower’s properties and operations including all relevant records and documents after giving reasonable notice; and costs of such inspection and the out of pocket expenses incurred by the bank’s representative aforesaid during such inspection being payable on demand by the Borrower provided that such costs are fair and reasonable.”

Family › Re: Traits Of Immaturity Displayed By Men In Marriage. by drnoel:
hafi: Got this as a broadcast, would love to know those for the women folks......

*** Signs Of Immaturity In Marriage: FOR MEN ***

1) Rejecting food wen there's an issue:

Oga husband, you gave your wife money for food and after it was prepared you refuse to eat because you dey vex. Its one of the greatest signs of
immaturity, its time to grow up! You should not even abandon your home for any reason, you could go somewhere wen angry but ensure that you don't allow it 2 linger unnecessarily because dat is enough for the devil to build on.
Listen to ursef, do u want him 2 beat her? If he can't beat her like the child she is, then he has to protest one way or anoda. I met a thread on facebook where one man went on booty strike, gave his wife sharia cos he was angry with her.

hafi: 2) Telling your wife severally that you are the head:

May I let you know that even when your wife disobeys/ disrespect you she
still knows that you are the head. Yu need not shout or scream it daily. Its important for you to know when and how to be firm and put yur feet down over issues, however don't become a nagging husband just to prove that you are the head.
Ho2 right u are but sometimes a woman needs 2 hear it more than once. The more u tell her the more it sinks in2 her head abi.

hafi: 3) Issuing threats:

Beating, verbally abusing your wife, issuing threats of divorce or bragging abt marrying another wife does not make you a man. Your strength is in your ability to tame your tongue and control your fist. When she is acting her "childish woman" part, play the "matured man."
Funny enof, women issue more threats than men but who am I 2 say so. Let me jut do like I didnt see this one b4 my wife sees it and begins trouble at home.

hafi: 4) Reporting your wife to friends and family:

Wen yur wife offends, correct and talk things through. You don't have to tell everyone about her mistakes, that will paint her black nd sell her cheap such that you will not be able to redeem her back. It is also out of place for any man to love his mother more than his wife and kids, doing this only sets up your home for crisis.
Now this is childish and agree but I see more women doing this than men. Men only report if he has told her over and over and she is being stubborn about it.

hafi: 5) Competition:

Have you seen couples who compete with each other over material acquisitions? Their properties and investments are always in separate names.
As the wife borrows to buy a Ferrari, the husband is running after a bugatti. How childish can we be? This also leads to insecurity, jealousy and inferiority/
superiority complex. Please let's check ourselves and work as a team
This one will not be my portion or portion of anyone I sabi
Family › Re: Helping Most Nigerian Women End In Drama: Why? by drnoel: 8:15pm On Nov 04, 2013
bigheart2013: Sorry to bother good nairalander again with another thread back-to-back. Please help me solve this puzzle. Why is that each time someone helps most (not all) Nigeria woman it ends up either in a drama, scandal, enmity or chaos?

Here are some examples:

1. I opened this thread because a friend helped a Nigerian lady get a job in a big firm in Nigeria. The lady resumed without even calling to update him. When the man asked her why, she said she was grateful but added that God only used my friend to help her, it wasn't by his own doing. It could have still happened through another person. My friend was shocked at this type of 'Thank You'
2. A man in USA who used his financial records to file affidavit of support for her niece in Nig to relocate to USA made news when he ended up in court and nearly ended up in jail, when the girl turned around to sue him for not supporting her financially in USA.
3. Some Nigerian men (not all) who trained their wives in school are regretting it today, after the said wife graduated and either dumped them or became very unruly when they start working.
4. Some people who opened businesses for their sisters in Nigeria are regretting it today, as they ended up enemies and insulted.
5. Some who gave gifts to female friends in Nigeria always have one story of ungratefulness or the other. They complained that generally most Nigerian ladies have a mindset that they get what they get because they are attractive women, and generally men are 'mugus' who spend on women to get something in return.

My Questions:

1. What is the cause of this general feeling of ungratefulness, and how can we change the mindset of our sisters to start being grateful?
2. What is the best way to give a Nigerian lady a helping hand without attracting these types of ungratefulness, since some of us either still have females we are helping or intend to help?
3. How should one react when one's help is either misinterpreted or treated with ungratefulness, without ending it in drama or enmity?

Update 1, Nov 4, 2013: I wish we don't turn this into bashing of Nigerian women. I asked 3 specific questions to see how we can train the mind of some sisters to see the benefits of being grateful, to teach brothers how to give the right way, and how to handle disappointments when they come. I pray we focus on that to make this thread more constructive.
It has nothing to do with Nigerian women but women in general. Also those people that have problems are those that expect something in return from people they helped. My advice, if u feel bountiful and want 2 help someone please do but do so without expecting nothing in return, do so with a clean heart.
