Not trying to knock your hustle bro, but this isn't anything fantastic from a ROI perspective.

Net-off fuel, app commission and maintenance/routine-repairs (concomitant with heavy usage of the vehicle) and you are left with about 150k per month...probably less

Considering the hours put in, the usual risk of spending so many hours behind the wheel, add that unique flavor of risk you also bear in thsi case, driving whilst fatigued everyday...the figures are not so fantastic, risk versus reward.
Those that are hawking goods in the hot traffic .. U think they are not risking their lives......

Every job has is risk and reward ...been broke and homeless is something I don't wish on anyone.....choose wisely my brother........

I rather wrk myself to death than beg any man for handout

But most will not heed to my advice . some will go buy corolla or big cars ..some will use big daddy that will chop fuel especially when fuel prices is going up etc ....

My point is this, if I had used all my life saving to buy car , how will I fix d compressor? When I fell sick who will pay for me. Just pointing out unforeseen situations in this hustle, unlike other jobs that will pay u when sick or not available.

It’s not easy anywhere and we all know that but bros if you know how many people want to start driving cos of dashboard and adverts.
Even Lagos state rush go buy cars thinking that dashboard earning sweet. Begin bring up lassra, drivers badge.

Last month a close guy borrowed money 550k to fix is car dt has been dead for 3yrs and was asking me for extra 150k dt immediately he starts driving Uber he will be paying back. I just weak...
Cos of his expectations.
I’m not against anybody hustling, I’m only telling them realities.
Due to covid many people have lost their jobs and coming to hustle, it’s better for some to try another biz or at least understand the hustle before jumping into it.
If e no dey pay at all we no go dey here. People dey use am feed, pay rent, fees and all...
I will not encourage anyone to take out loan for a car and neither would I give loan to anyone .. This is due to the Nigerian factor........

My advice is for anyone that wanting to take loan or buy car for uber . is to test the waters first by doing rental for few weeks or months and get comfortable first.. Once u pass that stage . than u can decide if paying car or taking loan is the right choice for u

I want to answer your question by giving you my example, when I joined dis hustle with mind set of what I see on dashboard and heard on news. Abeg I no attack anybody or any business ooh, I just Dey talk my talk, before una go report me again.

When I started dis hustle, I had more than 1m in my account but wanted to be earning 300/400k every month.
So I went to bake my car, bought two brand new tyres, fill up AC gas, made sure no noise and my car was looking like executive/vip. The inspection guy self trip for my car.
First month - nothing nothing
I managed to finish 13 trips in a week.
In my quest for knowledge I got to know about dis thread and then it was an argument/challenge dt u can net 15 k every day. Na so I join, I became rugged, accepting all trips to anywhere, inside rain, flood or bad road na go, any trip drivers reject I accept. Card or cash i no dey reject. working round clock (when I complete Uber 12 hrs I drive on bolt till 1am sleep and up by 4:30am everyday, friday morning to Saturday night no sleep at all( taking energy drinks/coffee) tops I sleep inside one estate in lekki, while bolt app is on incase olosho wan move from client house before morning. o boy come see money, loose cash everywhere... I left d geng of lazy naira land drivers.

2 or 3 months after my AC compressor packed up, changed it - N38k or so
Kazeem say condenser too must be changed. From dt to front shocks , leakages, bushing , back tyre swollen.
Back shocks gone.
To crown it all, I fell sick on wheel dropping a lady at home. I had to park in a compound and slept. D woman was scared cos of d way I was shaking, make person no go die for her house.
So I went back to nairaland and started reading from way back. Nobody tell me before I join d lazy drivers geng. Na d saving grace for me.
So my humble submission to you
Don’t borrow money to buy a car, try and get a car on rentals (though partners won’t give you a car, “ they want 10yrs working experience and 5star drivers as if dem dey pick experience from birth, msheeewww ”)
If u by car on loan, how much will u make in 1 month to pay back loan, feed and by fuel ? What of miscellaneous ( u or car fall sick)?
No dey listen to all dis newbies dashboard, very soon dey go quiet like d pple b4 dem.

Don’t buy car on loan until u test d waters or you buy but don’t resign, continue working and driving after work.
If to say I bought car on loan how I go service loan and fix car
Most of the issues about your car compressor going bad etc .. This is due to owners neglect and am sure the use of the local freon is what packed up ur compressor .. So u can't nobody but urself.....

Things are tough now and the economy is bad .. No matter how u look at it u still go hustle.. When people complain about how hard it is driving etc .. What about does kids or adults hawking things in the hot sun in traffic .. Those are the ones suffering running up and down trying to sell market in the hot sun .. And at the end of the day how much are they taking home ....alot of them will love to trade places with you ......

And if u think about it those street hawkers will do well driving uber.. They will do well in the uber profession and I can bet it that you will not want to trade places with them hawking .. You will not last 1 hrs hawking in that scorching hot sun .......

It is not easy anywhere .....

Great men, I want to resign my 50k per month Job, carry all I have (600k) and buy a Kia Rio 2006 or Honda civic 2003 to 2005 for bolt, my question is, will I get low ratings because of the car? I am trying to be careful because na Adashe (Esusu) money I dey use, so if I am kicked out I won't be able to afford and pay the remaining 6 people that will be collecting after me. I am in Abuja.
Well I don't know much about Abuja market .. I think Abuja rental is 25k per week and Lagos is 30k rental per week .......

My advice is if you can start on rental first before buying ur own car .. At least drive for 6 months or more before deciding to buy ur own car .......

When u are ready to buy ur own car . you should go for 2003 to 2005 Honda Civic .. I am not a big fan of naija used cars due to obvious reasons of abuse and neglect of previous owners.....

The Civic will serve u well if u take good care of it .. It will not affect your ratings at all .. Look for a civic that the previous owners has used the recommended oil .. Civics are good cars.....

Below is the one been used in Lagos for the past 2yrs plus now .. Good on fuel and parts are cheaper.

Lately there is increase in resale of uber cars

Is it that the biz is not moving again or what?
It is a combination of different things .. From crazy drivers to crazy partners... Cost of parts etc and people that invest don't have a glue of what they are doing....

Lack of maintenance comes from the owners and drivers. Mechanics are big part of the problem.. If u don't get a good mechanic u continue fixing the same issues over and over again ..... the list goes on and on ........and most cars sold from uber are usually sold due to future break down of the car .....

So better to sell off now than wait till the car issues becomes noticeable
Autos › ......Maintaining ur uber cars....... by dru23(op):
Below is my 2003 Honda Civic used for uber...... For the past 2yrs plus ........

When you maintain your vehicle especially the ones been used for uber . it will last you years to come .....

Most cars owners are still using 20w50 for their cars instead of the manufacture recommended oil ... Some cars will take abuse and some will not .....

Using the recommended oil will prolong the lifespan of ur engine .. Most honda or Toyota cars engine are built to last well over 200k .. That is if owners follow manufacture advice......

My red civic engine is still running fine so far . The car was bought 90k miles , which is still a virgin engine for an Honda engine .... And I hope to continue using it for at least another 1 yr ........

My advice to go car owners out there . once you get a good tokunbo car with low miles . please take good care of the car .. Make sure you buy the recommended engine oil from a reliable source .. And also the use of coolant is very essential ......

Times are tough now and auto parts are more expensive than ever before . The cost of tokunbo engine is also very high now .. And most so call "tokunbo engine " are actually repackage naija used engine .......

Do you part by using the correct engine oil .. ....we at dru23 are at ur service for all engine oil needs...

But he is not doing his job as a priest. A priest's job is not to act as judge and jury over who committed sin. Infact, priests dont have any power to choose who or who not to give communion. Because if we follow his logic, one day a liberal priest will also choose not to give conservatives any communion too. what then is the point of salvationhuh

"Over my dead body" Catholic priest says he'll never give US President, Joe Biden, Holy Communion unless he repents.

The priest condemned Catholics who are pro abortion. He also said Biden "is opposed to all of the basic moral principles that are proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church", therefore, he will not give Biden Communion if he attends his Church.

"Joe Biden is welcome to come to Mass here; his ideas are not welcome," Rev. Fr. William Kosco said.

Don’t be pessimistic about jobs in Lagos.
This phrase almost paralyzed my hope in getting Job then.
No job no job people will be suffering and smiling dying cos of fear of loosing a job or getting a better job. Thank you for adding dt dis hustle na to put food on table and maintain. I no even understand how married drivers pay school fees, house rent and save to buy car with dis 700 naira trips everywhere. I dey d hustle so I’m not talking down, but stop saying words like no job anywhere. We have so many graduates on the platform dt have stopped sending cv or looking for jobs, cos of statements like this. it happened to me when I saw advert dt I can net 350k every month na God quickly intervene, I drive morning n night looking for 350k net every month. The hustle helped me well and it’s still helping me.
In a nutshell let’s continue to hustle and keep hope alive. With God all things are possible
My brother the bottom line is ... .. Things are tough for everyone for those that are not stealing from the government.. Tougher for people importing things.. Cost of clearing containers has gone up ....cost of parts has gone up the roof.. Trucking your container now is 1.4m naira as of last week .. This was around 140k naira before the port congestion . And exchange rate is not looking pretty at all ..

For now I can't import any goods until things get better at the port.. So the economy is not looking sexy at all .....

True talk sha.. It seems things are getting better with drivers. Drivers are behaving themselves now than ever before, maybe because I offer low rentals and I do 100% of maintenance .

But considering the fact that there are no Tesla service stations in Nigeria at the moment, would it be convenient to import and drive one or is it just an expensive headache? Has anyone tried using it for normal commuting in Nigeria? Most of his rave review concerns their after sales service, which I believe is non existent here. Auto experts please advise.
