Nero2424: I saw it coming because of Covid-19 but wasn't aware of oil dominance, this are 2 big killer factors to crash the economy. Exchange is already $1 to N400 at close of business today..... No one want to invest in an unstable economy.

sexylassie: oil prices have drop, the drop in oil price will affect every sphere of the Nigerian economy, government will not be able to meet her revenue target, some private companies might go out of business and staffs will be layed off, if government does not meet revenue or its obligations, they wont be able to pay salaries, less money on people hands meaning less people using uber and taxify.
when thinking about the economy, know that every sphere of the economy is interdependent on each other, if one sector collapses, if will affect other sectors
for russia and saudi, both are protecting their economy, demand for oil has fallen due to corona, saudi wants russia to cut production, russia who is not a member of opec is saying NO, the saudis have decided to over flood the market with oil therefore leading to a fall in price of oil, russia has leverage because they can do what they want to protect their economy, the more russia and saudi produces, the more oil prices go down, saudi arabia will have to come with a better deal for russia, also russia supplies europe with 70% of their gas needs,so they have leverage and can decide to play the game the way they like, so expect this price war to go on for long till saudi offer a better deal to russia. The worse is yet to come to Nigeria, with the oil price dropping like flies...even meself I will need to stop importing engine oil now ..... |

Romeo3: Driver is key. Majority of people who own cars don't have a good driver selection process. It has never been, and would never be about getting a guarantor for drivers.
Just like in all facets of life, some drivers are more serious than others. The key to being successful is selecting the right drivers. That's not an open secret, thereby making a lot of investors fail.

A305: I don't think there there will be much ripple effect on transportation in Nigeria and in some other sectors; In regards to the dropped prices of oil by Saudi Arabia to spite Russia.
Drop prices would only affect the oil companies by shrinking productivity hence, which might result to laying off some staffs; Now if there will be any ripple effect in Nigeria economy - The banks who loans these oil companies will take a hit not the transportation sector of the economy - On the contrary; These soon to be laid off oil workers might even convert their cars to Ehailing cars flooding the market or some might turn drivers which isn't bad at all.
My future prediction - Russia is just being greedy and opportunist, Saudi is just being protective of their main source of income and business interests and the U.S is looking at both them so funny because in the end they still will trade with the almight Dollar.
Once these Coronavirus pandemic dies down which I believe (half the time is causing this overreaction), Russia would suck it up not having to be greedy and Saudi will sheath thier sword - But for Nigeria we would take advantage of this whole situation to purposely make our economy unstable so lots of corruption would be committed in the political level, economical level etc due to a little unstability of naira to the dollar. Nigeria basically imports everything. So cars coming in either for personal use or business use will be affected. The dollar has gone up now ,meaning for me to buy USA is at the rate of 375 naira. The cost of spare parts is also going to go up . Importers need dollars to buy parts from abroad, basically the cost of imported items is about to increase no matter how you look am ... There is a recession coming soon , it has started showing signs in Europe and USA .. And Nigeria that depends on oil and goods from China, will feel it the worse |

UNRULY: Jah bless you. I completely agree and will cease to follow this SLS news immediately. More important things to fix, I'm 24yrs old Uniben grad.., asked a man in V.I whom I met on Uber (driver/fleet owner)getmatched, if I could use the car(Toyota Corolla)to hustle and pay him his 30k weekly he' says he needs a family man instead, can you just imagine? Can't blame the man ,he is looking for ways to reduce is risk level. The family man thing is 50/50 chance that it will work well. This is Lagos ,drivers must have shown him pepper.. This is tough business, and nobody wants to take any loss.. |

Nero2424: Wow!!! I joined this thread to see how this rideshare thing works. I was hoping I can buy a few cars to try it out but the ways and manner some owners here are complaining about some drivers not remitting money in time is scary. This is still sounding like the same Danfo business I did many years back. Everyday story!
I will probably have to discuss business like this with my doctor to know if my blood pressure medication can handle this. The global economy is taking a hit . And with corona virus and join that with Russia and Saudi fighting for oil dominance, Nigeria economy is in for a long haul my brother , to buy dollars is now at the rate of 375.. And this is just the beginning... Better hold on to your money bro |

Gentlelife50: That's so true, most drivers are not doing well at all. They are out to wreck your car and move to the next one, even if you give them sound car like toks they will still mess things up. My guy called me today to accompany him to the house of one driver, this guy used car for a month only managed to remit for a week and he didn't even remit at the right time then he kept giving excuses. You need to see this car, even the papers expired he couldn't talk, car was just rough. This guy couldn't just tell us why he couldn't pay, I just weak. Assuming he was paying and the payment wasn't complete it would have been a different case. And uber now has rental program for 23k naira weekly.. Goodluck to them and the rental company moove ....wetin their eyes go see for drivers hand, they will be forced to abandon the program |

I stated the other day that, I was thinking of bringing in 4 Honda civics , and put it on 20k naira weekly rental . And I will do 100% repairs, I just concluded that make I focus on my normal rental am doing.. mrjaydee: Morning my people. I'm really pissed someone here PC me to give out my car for 20k rental which I did. In less than 3weeks my car is a mess. I had to tell my mechanic not to release the keys to him...i have been driving for over a year no major issues I gave someone my car for 3weeks.
My car shaft is gone, linkage stabilizer, gone. The oil is almost dried up, side mirror is hanging by a tread, front bumber is like a mess.
I wont mention the person, but my advice to those that want to give out their cars should do a mental test on the driver.
Fuucck!!! Sorry for what happen to your car .....now 1. Why would you give out a car for 20k naira rental? Was their something wrong with the car before given it out? 2. How well did you know the driver before given it out ? Was he recommended by family, friend etc 3. Did you keep up with inspection of the car? Because for me I do inspection every two weeks .. If I see that the driver is good and the spirit leads me, I than do it every three weeks to once a month.. 3. What are your maintenance agreement with the driver Like I said before and before, no matter how low the rentals are ,drivers will still mess up.. It is better to put your car into a shape that reflects weekly rental... If your rental is 20knaira weekly rental, it's either the car is not in top shape or you thought that you might get a good driver because of your low rental.. .. My cars conditions reflects what the weekly rental should be and what the current rental market is. I feel for you my brother, just have to be becareful, Do u know how many calls I get daily to weekly from drivers looking for car . I mostly turn them down and take my time . I have a tokunbo car sitting down for 6months, and am taking my time before I get a driver. I dont rush myself at all. If I come across a good driver and I feel comfortable enough I than get the car ready for uber.. Conclusion: Transport business is a tough business.. Put your emotions aside when doing this business.. Put your car in order before giving out your car . Fact check your drivers at the same . If you cant be hands on with these business, unfortunately you are setting yourself up to fail. And make sure you set up time to inspect your cars. It could be weekly monthly etc. But every two weeks will be the best option ...And expose any bad drivers out there , you said you didnt want to expose the driver, my guy its either you tough up or you find another business to do .. The driver you hired destroyed your car in two weeks . And you dont want to expose him or her .. My brother it is well sha ..... It is well |
