Dru23: He does not need to get another engine, considering what he is going through right now with the oil shortages and the white smoke.

In your experience, I bet your mechanic either had procedural errors during installations, or sub standard parts were used(unconsciously).

All engines can be rebuilt, no matter their state.

Lagos,
That is why I told him to seek for a specialist and get a second opinion.. I told him to hope for the best and prepare for the worse.. Using 20w50 engine oil on a 2007 Lexus, is the wackiest thing have seen or heard.. I guess people do that a lot, which am not surprised at all .. Those Lexus engines cost a lot and proper care should be taken with them
Now you talk about rebuilt, I don't care if the best mechanic on nairaland or Nigeria rebuild that engine.. Once a mechanic starts touching that engine, trust me that engine will never be the same ... there is nothing like a factory rebuilt engine to me. But either way I wish the young man, best of luck

We've argued boycott and strikes so many times, but I guess drivers have to wait till they are pushed to the wall. I laugh!

@dru maybe if this new taxify policy starts affecting your drivers' weekly delivery, you would also see sense in drivers striking for some hours or days to demand better conditions.
All my drivers are on uber, except the last one.. The next one is uber too
Haba! This one na minor damage nah. Mine was actually fixed with 55k. Driver side was badly damaged. Na God save driver sef. Police even lied to the guy that the driver died when they showed him the picture of my accidented car. I can't imagine how much they must have milked from the guy cos he was locked up.
And we wonder why things don't work well in Nigeria.. It's a full circle, so you can't blame uber for their business practices or quote on quote unfairness... it's a doggy dog eat world

You are highly entitled to your opinion .... Again I couldn't find good drivers on nairaland.... I don't think nairaland is the place for drivers .... And most of my car sales are not even from nairaland.. But my oil sales are from nairaland.... So let the tables shakes.. People like you can't handle the truth

Dear Automobile Guru,
My Tokunbo 2008 Lexus RX 350 smoke white smoke any time i start it and stop. This is steaming.
Although i used QUARTZ 5000 20W50 because i did not see recomended oil grade
of 5W30 of TOTAL.
1.What could be the problem or cause the smoke?
2.What will be the solution to that because i am scare of mechanic not to open my Engine.
3.What product of Oil should i use.
Please help me out .I need your help.
Thanks
Sorry bro. Those engines are very expensive.. Take the car to a specialist, even if it will cost you a lot.. Radauto in Lekki is my recommendation .. They have the rite tools to diagnosis your car .. They don't come cheap at all ,but it is better to take it to a place that can get the job done... that 20w50 oil you are using is the wrong, more than likely that oil has done grieve damage to your engine.. I tell people all the time follow the owners manual.. Some go hear and some are paying for it now ..good luck bro ....keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best, but prepare for the worse

Am going to address this for the last time.. Am a business man first. Before I give any car out ,I have to interview you and feel comfortable with you .... In the past I dealt with crazy drivers, I had to lock some up ,some even owe me money till now, a lot of them took my kindness for weakness.. Let me give u an example, I spoke to a uber driver on this forum, he said he needs a car .. I called him spoke to him got his whatapps etc .. I now send him the picture of the cars via whatapps.. The guy never reply me till now to say yes or No. And am aware that he read my message.. I didnt get any feedback from this person at all ..meaning he didn't send me ..which is ok ,a lot of people don't know how to build good network .. Some feel that I own them something, I don't owe nobody poo but respect, you respect me I respect you...
And from my experience, I believe that Nigerians are their own worse enemy..... This is a tough business that we are in ,you just have to shine your eyes.. I choose my drivers carefully, I dont have to do oga on top etc .. When u see me trust me you getting the real deal ....

What do you know about the roads and drivers' challenges? Why not keep shut until you have a car (s) to offer? You have so much time to download the latest memes, but you have no driver to comment that 'I am under dru's fleet'. Oga stop deceiving yasef cool

I use mobile xhp 20w50 does that mean that particular Mobil is not grade enough to service a Toyota Camry 07. Moreso I can still use my car up to 1500km before the oil start going down the last one I serviced was up to 2400km do you think my engine is really gone or I can still find a solution to it
Wish you the best ....

You have to look at the oil cap of the engine.. Camry recommend oil is 5w20 or 0w20 .. Anything unless you are basically on your own .. You can always get a second opinion from a specialist, even though nairalanders, road side mechanic, female, blind and deaf and dumb are all mechanic specialist.. Just choose your specialist carefully... but from experience that engine will need to be replace...

Did you fully read and understand the meme I posted? So because I don't drive on uber, but I lease cars out does that mean that I don't know what is going on ? His he aware that I did research on business before I went into the business.. Or does he think I just woke up one morning and gave cars out .. His he aware that I do all maintenance on my cars both minor and major. So that my drivers will have more money to take home? I make adjustments Base on what my drivers complain about and I try to meet them half way .. Do I need to be a driver to know that .... Please go and sit down bro..

You need to reset the Maintenance required light.

Here is how to:

1. Switch of car, open ignition but engine off.

2. On your dashboard (instrument cluster). You will see one long black knob. Press it to toggle between mileage, Trip A and Trip B.

3. Press down, till trip A resets to Zero.

4. Press again and hold the knob down on trip A.

5. Switch off ignition and switch back on. You will see something like the this. : - - - - -

6. Hold down till the lines go off.

That's it. You have reset your maintenance required light.

Nb:

1. You might to try out at trip B, or odometer reading if hold down at A doesn't work.

2. The maintenance interval for your camry should be 5,000 miles (when recommended oil is used, you can confirm this from your manual) , not 15,000 miles. Whoever sold that oil will claim it will do 15,000 miles. Most oil sold in Nigerian market are not any different from groundnut oil. Quality synthetic oil formulated to do that mileage will actually go 15,000 miles. But don't take the chance. Change your oil every 5,000 miles.

Here is a video on how to reset your maintenance required light.

Do your research bro.. I use the extended performance on all my uber cars. I do oil change every 12k miles, with ultra synthetic oil filter fram that is good for 15k miles oil change.. My car runs lovely and smooth.. If you know, you know

Car Talk › Re: Thread For Toyota Users And Lovers by dru23(m):
kingreign:

Your car manufacturer specified 5W30 fully synthetic
, with an OCI of 5000 miles, why flagrant abuse of these recommendation?

Do the right thing, the use of 5W20 in an engine not tested and recommended for is gonna case accelerated wear and tear and premature damage to the engine.

As for the blinking Maintenance required light, check your owners manual.

Good evening Nairalanders 2 months bacmk I realise my car (Toyota Camry 07 4plugs) consumes more oil compared to some months before then I service every 2000km it doesn’t have to be every month and I also change it within the filter. To my surprise today on changing the oil I realise the oil was so little like a sachet of pure water then checked the smoke coming out of my engine it’s a white smoke whenever I rave high. Pls what’s happening. I need an advice ASAP I use this car for uber and I drive it everyday I don’t want it to get stuck meanwhile I use mobil oil recommended by the for the car.
From experience, your engine is gone.. Better to get tokunbo engine.. Others will advice you to 'ring' the engine.. The issue I had with my car at that time. It was shorten oil ,the oil will short, and than we add more oil .. We could not find any leak on the ground.. It got to the point that I was topping oil every week. Eventually I had to ring the engine, and it only lasted for less than six months before I sold it .. The reason for the engine issue was my former fleet manager was using cheap oil Mobil XHP wrong grade oil ..

How can we make money from your research? since we know there is a problem we can device a solution and make money from it. Am thinking

1. compiling the research into a business plan and selling to an entrepreneur

2. opening a YouTube for AC diagnosis for Nigerians promoting it and getting paid from subscribers.

3. Start a small AC diagnosis and fixing workshop we can do it Saturday and Sundays get 3 clients per week, they pay 5k for diagnosis and up to 30k for fixing (refill and leakage), we don't need to do the job we can outsource to kazeem (cheaper labour cost) we just monitor and direct them.

what do think smiley we can get our capital from that BMW-V12-2.5M engine code grin
The a / c is a simple solution, most cases the compressors are bad ... even tokunbo compressor you get is not guarantee to work. From experience I had to change my compressor three times before taking it to Radauto.. I finally bought a compressor via ebay for $55.00 and a / c dryer for $18.00 ..got it fix and since than the a / c is chilling like Canadian weather.. A lot of people end up buying low quality to fake a / c gas .. If you know, you know...
